Chapter 4: Chuunin Exams Part 1

A/N: So as promised I'm back with more of this story. This one sadly isn't as requested as Anbu or Saviors but I really enjoy writing it and that's why I'll keep it going. Plus this one unlike my others aren't concepts that I've seen or read before and I like the idea of it. It's really fun writing his evil family especially for what I have in store for them later. After a couple of days to rest with the other competitors joining the ranks in Konoha the chuunin exams officially began. Naruto's team was excited to finally take the next step and become chuunins. Naruto had insisted on a higher graduating age for every ninja at his academy and kept them as genin longer than most so now they were 3 years older than most of the genin participating. They were cautious though just in case of any surprises.

The first exam was set to take place in a room at the academy that was given to them. When they walked in the door they saw a bunch of genins crowding a door that had that room number on it pushing and shoving to get in. There were 3 older looking "genin" guarding the door not letting them through. "Hanabi activate your byakugan. This doesn't feel right," Shikai asked suspiciously. "Already on it. That sign is a genjutsu. Our room must be on the next floor judging by the numbering system," Hanabi theorized.

The three of them went up to the real room to find much less competitors there. "I see another squad managed to see through that genjutsu. Eww it's those sound ninjas though," a boy wearing a leaf head band said snobbishly. "Why should they even be allowed to compete. Not like anyone from their village can compare to ours," a girl said just as rudely also from Konoha. "Are you guys stupid or something? Don't you recognize the signs of our clans? We are from the Nara, Hyuga, and Uchiha clans. Three of the most powerful clans that left this sorry village years ago. Without us you guys have barely stayed afloat," Kagami rolled his eyes at them.

The Konoha nins in the room all flushed with anger but before it could escalate any the instructor walked in. He was a tall bald man in a black feet length trench coat. He had scars all over his face and an expression that boasted no nonsense taken. "Listen up maggots. You have all passed the first test in this exam. Making it to this room. The next will be an exam to test your knowledge," The man shouted. "Now line up and take a number then follow me," he ordered. They did as asked and followed him to a large lecture room.

"Now go find the assigned seat of the number you were given," he ordered. Once seated he explained the rules and they all gasped. "Your time begins now!" He shouted. They all grabbed their pens and started reading through the test Naruto's team scoffed. Shikai knew the info quite well he is a Nara after all. Kagami used his sharingan to watch Shikai's hand movements and copy them. Ibiki may have said don't get caught cheating but not to not cheat. And Hanabi used her byagkugan to zoom in on Shikai's paper.

At the end of the test all but 10 teams were eliminated leaving only 30 competitors. "Alright brats congratulations on passing. Your next instructor should be arriving now," as he said that the door opened and in walked another man. Naruto's team was shocked by how similar he looked to their sensei. The only difference was no whisker marks and scarlet red hair that hung on his shoulders. "Alright you runts follow me for your next test. If you lag behind or get lost you fail," with that said he jumped out of the window and ran off. Team Naruto was the first to jump out after him noting the difference in personality as well.

After a few minutes they all arrived at the gates to a forest. The interior looked dense and foreboding. "Welcome to training ground 44 or as it is better known. The forbidden forest. This is a training ground mostly used by Anbu and jonin to test survival skills but today it will be the next part of the exam. In the center of the forest is a tower. Your team has 5 days to acquire both the heaven and earth scrolls and make it to that tower. Any who don't make it there will be out of the exam till next year. Each team will start with one of the scrolls and they will have to get the other from another team. You'll get your scroll from the tent then enter the forest. Good luck and do try to hurt yourselves. I want this to be entertaining," Hashirama the instructor said then took off into the forest.

Team Naruto got their scroll quickly and headed off to their gate. When it opened a little later they rushed in and headed off. Hanabi activated her byakugan when they reached a clearing several miles in. "I can see several teams heading right for us. You were right Shikai I think it's all of the Konoha teams that are stupid enough to try and take us on," Hanabi reported.

"I thought so lets set up traps all around the clearing and then hide in the trees," Shikai suggested. They did just that setting trip wires for nets and explosive tags all over the place. Their traps caught most of the teams that tried to fight them but one did make it through. Shikai silently counted to three then the three of them jumped down and easily knocked them out cold. "That wasn't hard at all. You'd think they'd have learned not to come this way after the first explosion," Kagami sweat dropped. "Obviously not. Search them and find the heaven scroll we need," Shikai said.

Luckily they did find one scroll then Hanabi used her eyes to find their way to the tower. They walked around till they found a door with their team name on it and entered. After reading the banner on the inside Shikai opened the scrolls and threw them. There was a big puff of smoke and when it cleared Naruto was standing there with a big smile on his face.

"I knew you guys would make it. I'm so proud of you. Did any Konoha nins give you trouble?" Naruto asked. "Nah not really they tried to rush us with all of them but they all fell for our traps. It was weird though the instructor looked just like you just with red hair," Shikai said.

Naruto grimaced at the mention of his past twin. "Stay away from him. He's very bad news," Naruto warned. "Don't worry we did," Hanabi assured. "Well since you guys made it in record time you have 5 days to relax here. There's a game room and you all have your own bedrooms. So enjoy the time off," Naruto encouraged. They thanked him then headed off to their rooms. Naruto returned to the room he was in where all the senseis of various teams were gathered.

Hashirama was there and glowering that his was the first to make it. "I told you they were good," Naruto gloated. "Yeah well they won't make it through the third part," Hashirama said angrily. "We shall see," Naruto insisted. You have no idea, Naruto thought with a smile for the plan to come.
