Chapter 101- Break XX
The Scoobies, both past and future versions of them, took their seats in the dining room, the past ones still tense and excited from everything they had just seen, since it was kind of thrilling, even if horrifying and dangerous for obvious reasons as well.
Rosenberg and Maclay did the usual, bringing in the food for them all as they put it down on the table in front of them, then sat down themselves, as all of them started eating, this time a little fast since each of them wanted to know so badly what was going to happen next.
The past people that is, the future people already knew due to having seen it all once, but they were eating a little faster for the sake of the past people, since they wanted to find out what happened next real fast, and so they needed to eat faster so they could go watch it with them and show them what happened as well real fast.
"Well, Faith sure knows how to go for those risky plans", Buffy sighed.
"It was the only way to neutralize Angelus enough for Willow to return his soul", Summers explained to her. "It was risky to her life, but the only play she had, especially since the others weren't completely sure if they should kill Angelus or capture and return his soul to make him Angel again."
"And that's where you were called, right?" Xander asked Willow who gave a nod.
"Yup, call of Fred for me, and I went there to do my job, had quite some benefits too", Willow commented.
"Yeah, like coming back with another Slayer, who was just as badass as ours", Rosenberg smirked as Buffy and Summers shared a friendly look with them.
"And she schooled Connor too, that was awesome, the kid needs to grow up now", Dawnster said.
"Well, tough luck, it'll be quite a long while before that happens, and it is very tragic what happens to him there", Dawn told her. "But yeah, right now he deserved this, and there will be some more he gets soon."
"Is a spanking coming?" Dawnster asked, excited.
"On the face", Dawn smirked, and Dawnster looked even happier now.
"Can't wait", she said.
"Don't blame ya, even though we feel horrible for him, he does get on the nerves a lot", Harris scoffed.
"What that thing did to Cordelia though", Tara shook her head, looking angry and disgusted. "How dare it violate her like that?"
Willow held her hand as Maclay nodded. "Yeah, and it planned this whole thing for a long time, Cordelia was just something for it to play with and use for its benefits, then discard, and the others got used by it too, especially Connor, since outside of Cordelia, he was affected the most."
"That thing is evil that needs to be put down", Giles snarled angrily.
"This is all so messed up", Xander said. "It's like that Oedipus Greek Tragedy with Avengers#200 sprinkled over it."
"What's Avengers#200?" Buffy asked. "Like, what happened in it?"
Xander shared a look with his future self, and then Harris said. "So, you familiar with the Carol Danvers character?"
"Little bit, not that interested in her", Dawnster shrugged.
"Well, anyway, in this story, Carol was kidnapped by a dude called Marcus", Xander explained to them all. "Marcus was the kid of an Avengers villain called Immortus."
"So Marcus took her to an alternate dimension, and there he brainwashed her and…." Harris trailed off, but they knew what had happened, it was eerily similar to what had happened to Cordelia, they noted grimly with gulps.
"Then, coming back to Earth, she was suddenly pregnant, and gave birth to a kid who then ended up rapidly aging, and he was actually another version of Marcus", Xander explained, and the disgust and horror just increased, especially at how similar it was to what had happened with Cordelia.
"Oh my God!" Willow groaned, rubbing her head.
"This thing is clearly no different from Marcus", Tara scoffed angrily.
"Oh! And after Hawkeye damaged his machine, he took Carol back to his other Dimension, and the Avengers didn't oppose, because they were stupid enough to think that Carol and Marcus had fallen in love", Harris scoffed, and that made it even worse.
"Wow, that is so stupid and disgusting", Dawn said, cringing.
"At least Team Angel didn't buy that", Summers sighed in relief. "They didn't do anything stupid like that, since they weren't written by writers who had to write them stupidly for plot, they were real people who used their brains eventually."
"Well, good thing they did figure out the whole thing eventually and fought back against the thing", Buffy said, though she was still saddened with what had happened to Cordelia.
"How did that storyline even fly?" Dawnster asked.
"Oh it didn't, there was a lot of criticism, kid", Xander told her. "It was panned worldwide, there are even articles about how disgusting it was by critics."
"Did Carol even get justice in the comics?" Rosenberg asked.
"Well, Marcus died of old age due to Immortus' technology and she returned to Earth, where Rogue first absorbed her powers and memories permanently", Harris continued. "But then Professor X restored her memories, and she was pissed off at the Avengers, and they were called out by her and the X-Men over being too stupid to realize what was going on in front of their eyes."
"Well, at least that's good", Buffy said, rubbing her head.
"Her appearances in comics were sporadic after that", Xander shook his head. "Not that it stops Marvel or DC from writing disgusting stuff from time to time, like when Black Mask-"
"I think we've heard enough", Tara held up a hand and he stopped, realizing she was right.
"The similarities are eerie", Giles agreed warily.
"So, food is finished now", Maclay noted, and they nodded.
"Let's go then", Summers said as they got up and walked back to the viewing room.
I'm not a fan of Carol in both MCU and comics, but in comics my dislike of her started after she became Captain Marvel, as Ms. Marvel she was compelling, but that plotline and what was done to her in it was horrible and disgusting, and I'm wondering if Whedon the creep and other writers took inspiration from that alongside Oedipus for ruining Cordy in this Season.
And it's not a compliment if someone was inspired by crap like Avengers#200.
Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with 4x15, my favorite episode of this Season. Stay safe from the coronavirus ya all!
