A/N Hey, guys. Welcome back to more of the Godzilla fanfic featuring my OCs Will Carter, Bianca Taylor, and Sonya Jackson. So first off, I hope you guys are staying safe out there, getting vaccinated, and checking in with your friends and your family. Second, there is still a few chapters left until the third and final act's epilogue. I know, I suck at updating. But I promise I will be better and make more time to update. And third, I got the second dose of the vaccine near my college a few days ago and I'm fully vaccinated. Anyway, this is the thirty-eighth chapter and hopefully, we can get to the epilogue as soon as possible. In this chapter, Will, Josh, and Maddie meet with Bernie Hayes and they come up with a plan. Also, I want to thank you guys for being extra patient with me. So, this is the thirty-eighth chapter, and let's get to it.
I only own my OCs. I think I'm getting tired of repeating the same statements.
Bernie Hayes' Apartment, Pensacola, Florida, May 18th, 2024
After making a bargain with the owner of the grocery store, Will, Maddie, and Josh travel to the address the owner provided them on where Bernie Hayes lives. Arriving in the small apartment, Maddie knocked on the door a few times, hoping that Bernie will answer.
"Bernie?" she asked hopefully.
"Mister... Mis.. Mister Bernie not home." Bernie said in a failed deep voice.
"Yep, that was definitely Mister Bernie." said Josh.
"He's not even good at making deep voices to keep himself covered." Will commented.
"Yeah. Um... Hi! Hi. Listen, we wanna talk about Apex and Godzilla." said Maddie.
"No. No. No. I... I got your faces. I contact authorities. Yes." said Bernie.
"For knocking on a door?" asked Josh, feeling a little offended.
"No. No." Bernie replied as he chuckled.
"Bernie, you don't trust the authorities." Maddie pointed out.
"Do you want me to take my badge out and show it to your camera so I could prove which organization I'm working for?" asked Will.
Maddie shook her head, not wanting the scientist take his badge out every often.
"My name is Madison Russell. My father works for Monarch and my mother was.." Maddie started as the door was opened.
"Emma Russell, right?" asked Bernie upon hearing the last name.
"We need to have a serious discussion." Will replied.
The four of them left the apartment and went to the Vietnamese Noodles restaurant and found a seat close to the window as they start their discussion.
"Before we go any further, I got one question. Tap or no tap?" asked Bernie.
"No tap." Maddie replied.
"Excuse me, what is "tap"?" asked Josh.
"Water. They put fluoride in it. Learned it from the Nazis." Bernie simply replied.
"Theory is it makes you docile, easy to manipulate." Maddie commented.
"You know your stuff, Maddie." Will pointed out.
"Oh, I drink tap water." said Josh.
"Yeah, I kind of figured that." said Bernie, not feeling fazed about Josh's statement.
"But she does the thinking for both of you, so it should be all right." Bernie continued.
"Thanks." said Josh, feeling unfazed.
"Anyway, moving on. The reason we're looking for you is because we have some critical information about Godzilla." said Will.
"Okay. What you got?" asked Bernie, wondering why the trio was looking for him.
Maddie leaned forward and placed her arm on Josh's right shoulder.
"I believe Godzilla's most recent attacks haven't been just random. I think he targeted the Apex facility." she said.
"I'm of the same opinion." Bernie agreed.
"But why? What is Apex up to that's provoking him?" asked Maddie.
"For five years, I embedded myself inside this company, trying to figure out what their game was. Then, last week... i saw this." Bernie explained as he took a USB drive out of his pocket.
"What's in the drive?" asked Will as he observed the drive after Bernie gives it to Maddie..
"A manifest of huge cargo being sent from here to Apex headquarters in Hong Kong, which makes no sense because we are not equipped for heavy shipping." Bernie replied.
"Then what?" asked Josh.
"And then boom! Godzilla shows up. Caved in half the facility, but I got a sneak peek of some suspicious tech which was hidden in a secret bunker. I mean, some pretty damn suspicious tech." said Bernie.
"The way he's saying about the suspicious tech, it means that Apex is planning something in secret. And not in a good way." Will commented.
"Yeah, but what is that?" asked Josh as he pointed at a hidden pocket in Bernie's jacket.
"That's, um... That's Katzunari single malt whiskey." Bernie replied as he took a drink out of his hidden pocket.
"Yeah, but it's in a gun holster." Josh pointed out as Maddie rolled her eyes.
"Even though he has a gun holster, that doesn't mean he has a gun on him, genius." said Will.
"It was a gift from my Sara." said Bernie.
'You have a Sara?" asked Josh.
"She was my wife. Um, she passed on." Bernie replied.
"I'm sorry." said Will.
Bernie takes a small notebook and hands it for Maddie to observe with a picture in one of the pages of the notebook.
"She was my rock. My truth. I'll tell you something, the day that this goes empty, that's the day you know I've given up." Bernie continued.
"Bernie. I think we can help each other." Maddie offered.
"Maddie's right. We need to find out more about this suspicious tech, and why the hell Apex is shipping it to their headquarters in Hong Kong." Will agreed.
"Okay, I guess now that we're a team, I feel like we should come up with a plan." said Josh.
"We're breaking into Apex." Maddie declared.
"Sounds like a stupid idea to break into a destroyed facility, but I'm in." said Will as he got up and took his jacket from his chair and followed Maddie.
"Wait, what?" asked Josh, not understanding what Maddie had just said.
"You heard her. Tap water." Bernie agreed as he patted on Josh's shoulder and followed Maddie out of the restaurant.
"Shit." Josh cursed.
Josh then followed his companions out of the restaurant, still not understanding why Maddie came up with an idea to break into a destroyed facility for no reason. After leaving the Vietnamese restaurant, Maddie decides to talk to Will.
"Hey, Doctor Carter?" she asked.
"What's up?" he replied, wondering what Maddie has to say.
"Thank you. For coming along on this mission. I really don't agree with my dad said about Godzilla changing." she said.
"I haven't seen you in five years since the whole incident in Boston. And I did view you as my little sister since I don't have a family left." he commented.
"But you can thank me later when we find out what the hell Apex is up to because I don't trust them since they don't seem to be a likable organization." he finished.
And that will be the end of the chapter for now. So what do you guys think so far? I added a little bonding moment with Will and Maddie at the end. In the next chapter, Godzilla vs Kong Round One in Tasman Sea. I will add Godzilla and Kong's interaction with different fonts in the next chapter.
