Author's Note

This one goes out to .SakuRianaHime thanks for the review hopefully this came out fast enough for you I was mainly using this as a writing exercise since no one had followed or reviewed it yet. So writing new installments was not a priority, but you asked nicely so I returned to it. Pokemon and other Hobbies has always been planned for six issues so we are at the half way point. Review if you want since I do not own Pokemon or make money from it every interaction keeps me motivated.

Third Stop Unova

His fingers are red and throbbing the stone is slick with sweat Stephen pulls his pocket handkerchief out of where else his pocket and wipes off the key stone. Stephen is resigning himself to the fact that his newest acquisition will not fit into the custom-made pin he had used as champion and now that they were at sea where would he get a replacement? His best chance in Unova would be Castelia City fortunately Stephen had been there visiting the Unovan Devon Corp branch there that was where he had met Fallow for the first time. Stephen did not want to spend his vacation scouring jewelry stores for the pin he could have his current pin modified at the branch and sent to his villa in Sinnoh it would eventually appear during his stay there. Satisfied with his new strategy Stephen measures his new key stone copies the data into the pokenav, and departs for a bite to eat.

Congruent with Stephen's late breakfast Kahili is going through her morning training routine it was a little different now then when Mr. Stone had first observed it. She had made the first change the day after the Kalos detour but, not under her own volition. At that time She was hitting golf balls out into the ocean, some quite far she was careful to avoid any breached Wailmer's or any seabird pokemon. She kept up a short chain of commands while she swung hardly noticing the progress of her Zubat and Oricorio. A presence came behind her it was Armand wearing his little pin with all the pride of a Sheriff with a new badge. Miss Kahili I am afraid a complaint has been raised about your practice I understand you have to stay in top form. Our other guests must have their needs met too I humbly request you stop working on your game." He said Kahili had the distinct impression the man had never said the word game in his life. "Why exactly were they complaining Armand? "The littering mam this guest hates leaving those little spheres in the ocean." "I can make sure that does not happen thank you Armand." Sensing his dismissal, the manager left her.

She now had combined her two training regiments Biiiite she called as she swings and Pop! The small white missile sails high and straight her Zubat dashed after the fast-disappearing object. The fluttering of its little wings was erratic yet, it caught the ball and happily returned. Great job! She really was impressed her Zubat loved the game and had not missed a ball so far. She wished her Toucannon was as adept at the game she needed to strengthen it after the ace pokemon had lost to Stephen. The next ball went even farther, thinking about Stephen tended to have that affect on her swing, it was a shame they also sliced or she could play much better. Her plan was to once again combine her hobbies there was a facility in Nimbasa where she could battle then use the driving range the arena there was the perfect complement to her training regimens. She had done a little more digging for her father apparently the last captain had been famous for teaching pokemon moves this seemed like a more reasonable explanation for how the ship had become famous than just the service she did not see how that helped her father he knew no move tutors. She kept hitting till she worked up a sweat she went back to shower and collect her things for the stop in Unova a tired Zubat gratefully retired to its poke ball.

With her golf bag on her back and passport in hand Kahili joins the cue to disembark she had a small duffel in her off hand with a pair of cleats and pokemon supplies packed neatly within it. The port was Driftveil City from the top of the ramp she could see some construction taking place girders glint while the whine of power tools and a cacophonous medley of men shouting carried over the din of the city. Kahili had two regrets on her mind, the first is "I should have packed earplugs, the second was the heat was oppressive the shower had been pointless with how much she was currently sweating." Up ahead in line she sees a familiar figure the normally unruffled Mr. Stone was fumbling with a heavy jacket he was so engrossed in removing the clinging person warmer he had stepped out of line. She had drawn even with him when he had finally freed himself from the cumbersome cloth trap, his hair slightly askew Kahili liked it better that way. Feeling magnanimous she provided the struggling man some much needed assistance. "Step in here champ, or you will never get off the boat." She had to repeat herself to be understood over the bustle of Driftveil City. Stephen slid into the gap that existed for the briefest moment between the young golfer and the woman behind her with an overlarge sun hat clutched in her hand defeating its intended purpose of providing shade. She was too hot to care about Stephen skipping line, she was picturing a Castelia cone with single minded determination blocking everything else out.

Stephen was wringing the coat through his hands, placing it over his shoulder, he cannot settle on a convenient place for the troublesome garment. "Just put it in my bag!" She hands the small duffel bag over, with a flourish that belies her tone. He does as he was ordered and continues holding the bag in an attempt to make it less awkward. He returns the bag to her when they see the guard who will check their passports and tickets. Stephen begins to laugh a small chuckle, of astonishment not the laugh of someone who found a joke funny. Kahili raises an eyebrow, forcing Stephen to explain his reaction. "Last time I was here, there were these giant refrigerated containers there was this sheer wind I thought my face was going to turn blue. I prepare accordingly and this giant eyesore is here instead." "That's travel it is never the same trip twice golf is like that too conditions always change the addition of a little wind can wreck all your plans." Internally she mused that uncertainty was why her father's hotel was so successful it gave the illusion the trip would be the same every time though any experienced traveler should have seen through it. No matter how many times you go to the same place the people and circumstances always change.

On the dock itself Stephen does see a familiar face Clay the local gymleader is there on a cell phone his gaze locks with Stephen. Beside him looking determined is a giant mole pokemon with metal claws. Suddenly Stephen knows exactly what the eyesore was the site for the Pokemon World Tournament.

"Nice of you to stop by Stephen you are a hard man to reach, I used to be a rambli'n man myself never took a boat. Hitchhikin was how I got from place to place." Was that an insult or just a factoid about his past it could be either. Whatever it was it was for Steven Clay was looking at the heir with the air of a man used to getting his way. His recently holstered phone began to ring , the ringtone was a steel guitar riff of some sort. "Hmmph here is your invitation Steve, the Hoen league was unsure how long you would be out so y'all get two one for Wallace one for you. Course I mailed his." Taking the embossed letter Stephen finally responds, "You did get in touch with all the pokemon leagues, then" "Yeah but Galur turned me down that Chairman Rose fella is downright giddy for alternative energy he would not even take my call, shame their fans would have been down here like fleas on a Lilipup. You were right about Kalos they would not agree to no mega evolution." Tippin his hat the big man withdraws his Exadrill trailing behind him.

Apologizing Steven has to put the invitation in the duffel bag, naturally Kahili asks some questions about it. "What was that about!?" "Clay was pitching this crazy idea about pitting all the champions and gym leaders from all the Pokémon leagues together, he was raising funds so my father set up a meeting once he heard it was battling related. I never thought he would get enough funds to fly everyone out, honestly Galur declining probably helped his overhead." "What a great idea why have I never heard of it?" "He only called the leagues and Alola does not have one the whole thing is structured according to those rules." Honestly Kahili understood that the kahuna's were protectors of the island even if they had been invited, they would have said no. "I am heading to Nimbassa to hit the links I assume you are going to stay here and pal around with Clay some more." "No I have to be in Castelia meet me in the main square when you finish and I can show you around a little." Smiling and waving behind her the athlete jogs away off to practice.

When Kahili gets to the stadium she pays the entry fee for golf enters sits down on a bench by the court to change shoes. A couple of basketball players are exiting, or they were planning on leaving before they decide to challenge her to a Pokémon battle. "Go Zubat! Whirlipede, get Get your game on! A circular centipede pokemon emerges its eye small and beady. Wing attack now, the attack is met with protect Zubat begins to circle back. "Defense curl. Whirlipede." Shouts the part time trainer his partner withstanding another supereffective attack. "Knock em over with Rollout!" In a blitz of movement, the bug type bowls over Zubat dazed Zubat retreats. "Spread some confusion with supersonic Zubat." Confused Whirlipede begins to spin aimlessly in circles, with two wing attacks Zubat dispatches its opponent. Then Zubat is enveloped in a bright white light, evolving into Golbat. Now that the court is clear Kahili hits a button and the basketball goals sink into the floor replaced with a golf simulator. Mechanically Kahili begins to work on her short game her mind keeps drifting to how fun that last battle was.

Steven sits down on the street by the Pokémon center waiting for Kahili, various adds play on the giant television screen. See the new exhibit on the heroes of legend at the Nacrene City Museum! A clothing store's cover model pin up came up wearing a high end swimsuit the model had obviously died her hair black her most startling feature were her electric blue eyes. He had never seen that shade of blue. Did the camera make them brighter?" He wondered before paying more attention to the sea of people traversing the street. The screens flashed by quickly for a few minutes these were international placements and were given less time not that Steven knew the reason. A lush landscape caught his eye as it to flitted on the screen it was a camera roll of beautiful landscape shots, a rock formation, a jungle, several pictures of beaches and surfers, lastly a white snow peak taller than any mountain he had seen. Maybe Mount Silver it was not Mount Coranet or any from Hoen. Kahili might know she seemed fairly well traveled she had got on at Kanto surely, she had glimpsed Mount Silver. Steven lost track of how long he sat there, idling away his stop at the Devon Branch had been successful in its mission, terrible at killing time. In the fullness of time Kahili appeared both bags still in tow, her legs pumping as she hurried towards him. "Steven, I'm almost there hold on! When she arrived, the landscape add was back on. Pointing Stephen asks her if it was indeed Mount Silver in the photograph. "No that was Mount Lanakila, we hold the final trial there or rather at a small village at its base they run that same campaign at home all the time the Alolo Photo club put it together. Did you think they have jungles like that in Johto? Laughing together the pair head off to collect their frozen treat enjoying one another's company and beating the heat. Kahili liked the laugh that Stephen made when he was amused much better than the other it was kind of cute. For his part Steven decided that Kahili's eyes flashed brighter when she laughed than any other pair of eyes he had seen.

Author's note you may notice I updated chapter 2 I found a discrepancy when I looked up Mount Lanakila so I expanded the flashback a bit to better line up with cannon and explain the new elite four member that appears in Ultra moon/sun. Sincerely, 4Coyote
