Hello. So here's a new chapter for all of y'all to enjoy. Just note I don't think a lot of people read the end notes for last chapter so i'll give a mini version at the end of this one.
So here's what I think is a mediocre at best chapter.
I don't own anything in the fic except my oc's .
Now let us begin.
…...
"So what do you think he meant by not a monster?", whispered Ashido to Kyoka.
"I don't know maybe . Maybe more weapons or A pet or something.", whispered back Kyoka.
"For your information. This one is going to be about the assistants to the hunters.", Stated Greed to the pair in question.
"You heard that.", said Ashido baffled.
"Of course this is my Domain I know everything that's going on with in it.", deadpanned Greed before starting the screen.
A strange symbol suddenly appeared from the darkness, a large neon yellow triangle with a circle in the middle of it, four smaller triangles below it, the name "STRAWFOOT" appearing below it. All this was accompanied by mysterious, but calming music. "This New World we inhabit can be a strange and terrifying place to call home. It's dangerous outside the walls of Astera and no hunter should journey out into the wild lands unaccompanied. But thankfully, we didn't travel here alone."This new narrator explained as a split-screen showed three different Lynians, A Felyne with a headband dancing in a festival with a few others, a Melynx getting into mischief as it stood on a rolling Felyne head decoration and another Felyne in the desert, approaching a large skeleton with a bone pickaxe on its back.
"Huh. New narrator.", asked Kirishima.
"Yeah. This is Strawfoot. He's kind of the opposite of Rage. Where Rage is bias and rude Strawfoot is just and polite. Rage makes jokes while Strawfoot gives out facts. Rage is loud and aggressive but Strawfoot is calm and passive. You get the picture right.", Replied Greed.
As the screen showed the palicos Greed conjured up extra strong earmuffs on Kyoka's ears.
Just in time for the .. "SQUEEEEEEEEE!", of the other girls.
"Oh my god look at the little kitties.", Called out Toru.
"They're so adorable.", Said Ochaco.
"Thanks for these .", said Kyoka turning to face Greed getting a thumbs up as a reply.
A white background was then shown with images of three hunters on the screen. The one to the left was an absolute juggernaut in bone-plated armor with fur around the edges. The second, an adorable young woman, likely around her mid twenties age in a large, fluffy dress and hat, furry boots as well, but with some bone plating on the front and mostly bone gloves on and finally, to the right, a man in striking white and pink oriental robes and clothing, with a fox-like mask with bunny-like ears on it.
"Behind every great hunter is a loyal Palico." The narrator declared as the image of three Felynes appeared in front of the hunters, a traditional knight-looking one in front of the tank-like hunter, one that looked like a mail man in front of the girl and one that looked like some kind of princess knight in front of the strikingly-dressed hunter. "But what exactly are these strange, bipedal cat creatures? And what is their relationship to the Hunter's Guild? My name is Strawfoot and these are the Lynians." The narrator announced as the images of the hunters turned gray and faded out of the picture, leaving their cat-like partners in the spotlight, before everything went white.
"So they're a support for hunters like heroes have support companies.", asked Midoriya.
"Something like that but on a smaller and more personal scale. What's the word i'm looking for...sidekick. Yeah their like sidekicks for the hunters", replied Greed.
"You know looking at them and their possible utility i'm guessing you what one as a sidekick ehh sleepyhead.", teased Midnight to Ersaerhead.
To which the man just scoffed while secretly wanting exactly that.
A large book was then shown on a table, titled "Strawfoot's Monstrous Compilation."There are five known species of Lynians recorded in the history of our world. These are Felynes, Melynxes, Grimalkynes, Shakalaka and Uruki." Strawfoot explained as a white background was shown again, an image of each creature he explained was shown: a white and tan Felyne, a black and white Melynx, multi-colored Grimalkynes, the masked Shakalaka and the primate-like Uruki.
"Huh... that's different from what I thought they'ed be.", stated Asui.
"Yeah. I thought they were all cats.", said Ashido.
"But you know what thought did right.", said Greed
what he got was a blank look from the audience. "Come on guys you know. Planted feathers and thought chickens would grow. Don't tell me that joke died out for ya'll".
More blank looks. "Oh forget it.".
"Felynes are the most well-known species of Lynian, they are small, bipedal cats, typically tan in color with brown paw print markings, although a great variety of colors and patterns are possible."Strawfoot explained as a blue Felyne was seen blowing on a horn, a strange green energy swirling around and rejuvenating its hunting partner. "Originally, they lived only in the wilds of the Old World, in primitive hunter-gatherer tribes. However, some time during the second age, small numbers of these creatures began integrating themselves into human and Wyverian society." He went on as a Felyne was seen delivering a huge platter of food to a table of hunters. Shortly after, manga art was then shown of these creatures.
"Huh I wonder how much time and effort it took for that transition to take place.", muttered Momo.
"Ohhh and they come in colours other than standard cat colours.", squeed Ashido.
"Err is anyone else getting hungry looking at what they're serving", said Kaiminari .
Growls filled the theatre followed by embarrassment and a certain sleep needing hobo lookalike trying to look stoic.
Greed only chuckled. "Don't worry after this one we can take a break for lunch.".
"Felynes living in human society most commonly find employment as cooks, farmers, or housekeepers. They often take up these services in exchange for food or felvine. Some very brave Felyne are chosen by hunters to become Palicos. Palicos accompany hunters into the field and support them in battle against monsters. A well-trained Palico is even capable of bringing down large monsters by itself." Strawfoot explained as several images of Felynes in various clothing, even with armor and weapons, were shown.
"Huh so they really are like little furry sidekicks.", said Kirishima.
"Incredible to think something that looks so harmless can fight creatures over 20 times their size.", said Toshinori in awe.
"Well that goes to show that you should judge something of appearance. I mean look at Midoriya. He's a adorable dork but he can punch buildings to pieces.", said Greed causing the greenette to blush from the praise.
"There is a common misconception surrounding our Lynian companions, more specifically Felynes, which I feel needs further explanation. Many hunters I've spoken to worry that the Felynes who serve them have been somehow enslaved by the human race, or exist within our communities as a sort of lower cast. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. While it is true that Felynes are not paid in Zenny for their services, this is because in Lynian culture, there is no real concept of currency. The Felyne has no real use for Zenny. According to the laws of the Hunter's Guild, Felynes are considered equal citizens of the realm and as such hold all the same rights and privileges as a human or Wyverian. In fact, some Felynes have even risen to positions of great power in our society." Strawfoot explained as the images of shining gold coins with a Z on them were shown, along with more images of Felynes.
"Well seems like these hunters are a very progressive society. Usually those like the felynes would be heavily discriminated against.", said Ojiro.
"To be fair since the rise of quirks many froms of discrimination vanishes such as racism , sexism and homophobia.", pointed out Momo.
"Yeah but there's still bits of it left in the form of quirkism against the quirkless.", replied Greed getting a frown from the heiress.
"Surely it's not that bad right?"
"Oh you would be surprised just how awful some people are.", said Greed discreetly shooting a look to a certain blond bomber in the group.
"The most notable of these is the mysterious Felyne known as Felcote, who attained the rank of Guild Knight in the Hunter's Guild."Strawfoot explained as the image of a white and brown female Felyne wearing a furry white and orange cloak with a bell on the neck was shown. "If you're familiar with Guild Knights, then you know that they outrank hunters in the Guild and serve as elite guards, tasked not only with protecting major population centers, but also with the job of policing hunters and enforcing Guild policy and hunting restrictions."He explained as a male and female hunter in cowboy-esque armor were shown.
"So like the Hero public safety commission. There are hunters to keep other hunters from breaking the rules.", said Midnight.
"Kind of except their not corrupt to my knowledge.", remarked Greed getting a raised eyebrow from the woman.
"Neither is the commission.".
"Keep telling yourself that.", muttered Greed knowing what takes place in their future.
"Recent years have seen the creation of several Felyne villages, such as Cheeko Sands and Poka Poka Village. The cats from these villages have apparently take what they have learned living in human and Wyverian villages and cities and used the knowledge to build their own communities."Strawfoot elaborated as several cartoonish images were shown of Felynes living in their own villages and beating up monsters.
Cue squeeeeeeeee's from most of the girl except for Kyoka.
"Oh man goodness. Look at the little kitty houses.", said Tooru.
"I know and just look at how they fight monsters. I know we heard about it earlier but seeing it another thing.", said Ashido .
Even little Eri was star-eyed at the sight of the adorable cat people.
Next, the familiar images of Melynx were shown."Melynx appear very similar to Felynes, however they have only one possible fur coloration, which is a black-white paw print pattern. Like Felynes, Melynxes have integrated themselves into many human and Wyverian villages. They serve most often as cooks and housekeepers and are even chosen on occasion to become Palicos."Strawfoot told the story of the darker Lynians as a few images of them were shown, before a clip of Felynes and Melynxes at a festival, playing instruments. "All Melynxes are kleptomaniacs. They will steal anything they can get their adorable little paws on. They're also extremely sensitive to felvine and will attempt to steal this plant, even ignoring more valuable targets if it is available." Their narrator continued.
At the mention of their kleptomaniaTenya began to sputter. " Thieves! How can hunters work along side such swindlers .".
" Calm down kid. Don't you think your overreacting just a bit.", said Present mic.
"Yeah it's not like their robbing banks or jewellery stores.", said Ochaco.
"Besides it doesn't seem like they can help it. Kleptomania is hard to get rid of .", Said Midoriya.
"So is everyone just going to ignore the fact that they steal plants to get high.", pointed out Kaminari .
All he got was silence. "Guess so.".
"Melynxes, like Felynes, don't seem to place much value in Zenny or other objects valuable to humans and Wyverians. All of the items they steal are left as offerings to small stone cat statues in their dens. It is unclear if this is a religious ritual or tradition, or if they just don't have anything better to do with the object."Strawfoot told the intricacies of Melynx tradition as images of a festival were shown, humans and Felynes alike dancing, a strange Lynian with a helmet made from what looked like a giant acorn with a strange sickle weapon observing numerous masks, or several food vendors being observed.
"Huh so at least the stealing is not done with malicious intent.", said Sero.
"So they have festivals like us. Do you think they have cold soba?", asked Shoto.
" Sadly no they don't. But hey who knows maybe they'll add it to the menu in the future.", said Greed getting a frown from the icy-hot boy.
"Grimalkynes are a more primitive relative of the Felyne and are found only in the New World. Unlike Felynes, Grimalkynes have never attempted to learn human language or made any effort to integrate themselves into human society. Although Grimalkynes are largely anti-social creatures, they have been known to assist human hunters and Palicos in the field and can communicate effectively with Felynes when necessary." The new narrator explained as the image of a pair of Grimalkynes were shown.
"So they cling to their old ways. Can't say whether that's a good thing or not.", Said Shoji.
"On one hand it's better to move on and evolve with the world but on the other hand tradition is important to some so... . ", trailed of Toshinori .
"Hey whatever works right. I mean if they survived this long by sticking to their ways then good for them . At least they help out those who need it.", said Ashido.
"Shakalakas are small, humanoid creatures who live in primitive tribal communities. Shakalakas in the wild are usually hostile to human hunters and will often attack on sight, throwing bombs and boomerangs and using primitive stone swords." Strawfoot explained as a red masked Gajalaka with green stripes on the mask was shown.
"This guys on the other hand don't seem all that frinedly.", said Kaminari.
" Gee I wonder what give it away the fact it was just state they attack on sight or the fact that they throw around bombs.", snapped back Kyoka.
This made Ersaerhead reconsider having one on one hand bombs are noisy on the other hand cute cat. Truly a most difficult choice to make.
"Wait didn't we see them in the other monster's cave the one with all the gold.", said Tokoyami.
"A Shakalaka's mask is a status symbol within the tribe. The more elaborate or outrageous the mask, the higher the status of the Shakalaka. When a Shakalaka is born, it is given a very simple mask. When a Shakalaka comes of age, it must undertake a journey to find its own mask as a sort of coming of age ritual." Strawfoot went on while golden mask was then shown as a pair of young Shakalaka raced up to it, looking at each other, before fighting over it.
"So that's why some of them were in Kulve's cave they were making their masks more valuable. To increase their standing in their tribe.", said Momo fascinated by the cats way of life.
"Isn't it a little cruel tho to make the young ones venture out to find their own mask?", asked Ojiro.
"No if anything it's more beneficial for them to learn about the world as soon as possible rather then when its to late.", said Ersaerhead.
Inko frowned wanting to dispute that way of thinking but could find any real fault with it.
"The Gajalakas are a tribe of Shakalakas found only living in the New World. On the surface, they appear very similar to Old World tribes, however research into their society and biology is ongoing and we still have much to learn about the Gajalaka. The most famous Shakalaka are Cha-Cha and Kayamba. These two young Shakalakas met a hunter outside of Moga Village while on their first mask quest. They joined the hunter and by using the First Age technology of an ancient mask, they ultimately helped the hunter defeat the massive Elder Dragon Ceadeus, saving Moga Village from certain destruction." Strawfoot finished the story of the Shakalaka.
As he told the story, the two Shakalaka, now identified as Cha-Cha and Kayamba were shown still fighting over the mask, which eventually slipped from both of their grasps, rolling out of the cave into a herd of stampeding aptonoth running on a narrow ledge of a cliff above the ocean, getting caught in one aptonoth's crest. The two Lynians jumped after it, Kayamba grabbing onto one of the aptonoth and Cha-Cha grabbing onto a jaggi, one of the raptor-like creatures chasing the aptonoth, which likely caused the stampede. A strange sea creature leapt up for a bite at the aptonoth and missed, then the jaggi singled out the exact aptonoth the Shakalaka needed, jumping on it and nearly sending themselves, the aptonoth and the two young Shakalaka into the ocean, but the aptonoth just managed to save itself from falling at the two Lynians retrieved the mask.
"So are those two considered heroes by shakalaka standards?", asked Midoriya hand hovering above his notebook waiting to write.
"In a way yes. Unlike other shakalakas Kayamba and Cha-Cha worked along side a hunter and as stated re famous for it.", said Greed.
"I know we went over this before but wow. Such little guys taking out such massive monsters. It's almost unbelievable.", said Sero.
Finally, the image of the last group of Lynians was shown."The Uruki are a species of owl-like Lynians who live only in the wildest frontiers of the Old World, far from human civilization. Much like Grimalkynes, they live only in primitive tribal communities and appear to have little interest in human and Wyverian civilizations. Currently, very little is known about these strange tribal creatures. However, research is ongoing." Strawfoot finished.
"Wait how are they part of a group of cats when they look like owls?", asked Tooru .
Greed just shrugged their shoulders, "I haven't the foggest ."
…...
"So how was that?", asked Greed.
"It was interesting seeing how sidekick from that world operate. Even if the title is different the concept is still the same.", said Midnight.
" It was a good reminder to not underestimate anyone. No matter how unlikely they seem anyone can do great things.", said Present mic.
This caused Toshinori to wince at a certain memory.
"Can we please have a few Palicos please please please.", said Ashido trying the puppy dog eyes.
"No.", said Greed stone-faced.
"Aww why not.", Asked Tooru pouting as much as an invisible girl could.
"First up Palicos are still people with free will you can't force one to be your just because you want one. And secondly bringing them to your world would have awful ramifications.", said Greed.
" Ok I can understand the first point but how bad can the second one be?", asked Asui.
"Oh not that bad. Just the fact they could be captured and experimented on by the government or be treated like lesser being by the citizens . You know nothing much.", said Greed sarcasm oozing from his lips.
This had the affect of making the group speechless for a time.
"Anyway how about we break for lunch ok.", said Greed .
A resounding rumble from the cast caused the demon to smirk and many faces to turn red in embarrassment.
Just as everyone got out of their seats the ringing of a phone echoed in the theatre.
"Oh that's me one moment please.", This was followed by Greed reaching into his pocket and pulling out a cellphone.
"Hello. …... Good ….Make sure to get this right unlike Sloth we don't get a do over and he's busy at the moment...I know …... Ok just make sure Normally he has a hard time as it is so let's make things easier for him... and just where would he go and who might he meet...Really ok ...ok that good ….well see you later ..yeah bye .. bye.", spoke Greed into his phone.
All the while the cast could only look at him wondering what was going on.
"So where were we .. oh right lunch shall we go.", said Greed turning his attention back the people here.
"Who was that?", asked Kirishima .
"Oh that was an acquaintance of might . Right now she's out and about in the vast multiverse about doing something to help out a hero . And thats all you'll get out of me for now so anyway.", replied Greed before motioning for them to move on.
Unsure of what else to do they followed the demons instructions but kept this little interaction in the back of their minds for now.
…...
So yeah I know this chapter was very very late but I'm going to be honest I lost my spark for the MHA fandom .
