Divided We Fall
Chapter 33
"Fine, you can all go," Ross said dismissively and they all quietly left. Martine was just glad that they were allowed to leave and go back to Stark Tower.
She rubbed her bump gently and smiled at her growing bump. She didn't know the sex yet, but she decided that walking would give her some fresh air.
Martine smiled as she remembered the discussion, she and Bucky had over baby names. She loved the name Rebecca if they had a baby girl, or Jasper if they had a baby boy. She sang a song in French that her grandmother would sing, a smile on her face.
Martine began knitting baby blankets for everyone who was expecting a baby. T'Challa had contacted them and announced that they had found a way to cure Bucky of the trigger words. She had almost cried at that, and told him to tell Bucky that she loved him and the baby was doing well. She missed Bucky so much it hurt.
At least they now knew how to get rid of the trigger words. She was just about to leave when someone hit her over the head, and injected her with a drug.
Wanda knew something was wrong when the power went out. She could hear gunshots, and rushed to Bucky and Martine's apartment to see if Martine was alright.
Salem and Selene were unharmed but deeply agitated. The room looked like a hurricane had hit it. She saw a note on the table and wearily opened it.
It was a drawing of Martine, bound and gagged. Her eyes were bruised.
I HAVE HER.
"Oh no...I've gotta tell the others," she said horrified. She raced to tell the others what had happened to Martine.
She found them in the living room, all looking bruised. Wade was carrying two bloodstained katana.
"They took Martine!"
Martine woke up in a cold small room. It had a bathroom and one small window that showed a snowy landscape. It strangely reminded her of Siberia.
Where was she?
"Where am I?" she asked quietly. None answered. The door opened to reveal a man that made her see red.
Helmet Zemo.
"What do you want?" she asked angrily, disgusted at seeing him.
The man chuckles before sitting in front of her, almost taunting her. "Sweetheart, honestly I could care less about you. It's Bucky I want. That'll cause the rift I need."
She glares at him. "He's not even around here anymore," she growls.
He chuckles again. "Oh he will be soon enough. And if I keep you here until then, well, we're in for a fun time, aren't we?"
His eyes travel to her stomach and his brow raises.
"Wow, I'm surprised. Didn't think Barnes had it in him. Maybe once that baby is born I can take that too."
Martine nearly explodes. "You won't fucking touch my baby!"
Dark red wisps of magic crackled from her. She moved away from the Sokovian colonel, her hands resting protectively around her four month baby bump.
"We'll see about that, Miss Laveau," Zemo said coldly and walked out of the room, leaving her alone once again.
"It's alright Jasper. Mama won't let these people hurt you. I promise, mon petit ange," she whispered protectively to her bump and curled up on the bed.
"We know it was the Watchdogs and they were ordered to attack the tower. Also, Senator Ellen Nadeer ordered the attack on the tower. We need to find Martine, because god knows what Zemo's gonna do to her," Steve said worriedly.
"Have you heard from T'Challa?" Sharon asked quietly. Steve nodded and swallowed thickly as he thought of the good news he was about to tell Martine when she had been kidnapped by the Watchdogs.
"They found a way to get rid of the trigger words. I'm going there now to tell him what's happened," Steve said finally. Sharon held his hand tightly and decided to go with him.
She hoped Martine was alright.
Bucky woke up to see he was no longer in cyrostasis and he was lying in a hospital bed. He saw Steve quietly come in with Sharon and T'Challa, who both looked worried.
"What's going on, Steve?" Bucky asked quietly. Had something happened to Martine or one of their family members?
Steve sighed and sat down beside him.
"Zemo kidnapped Martine. There's a senator called Ellen Nadeer and she found out Martine was having a baby somehow. She got Zemo to attack the tower and capture Martine," Steve explained grimly.
'No, no, no! Not Martine and our baby.' Bucky thought terrified. He felt sick and scared for Martine and their baby.
"I have to go find her, please Steve!" he pleaded imploringly. Steve nodded at his best friend, when Sharon looked at the three of them with a horrified expression.
"A DVD just got sent to the tower...your name's on it, Bucky," Sharon said worriedly. Bucky swallowed.
"Let's go," he said quietly, feeling the Winter Soldier snarl in rage at the fact that Zemo had kidnapped his fucking wife.
Bastard.
His fucking family. He wasn't about to let this go. Not yet.
He stands up and looks around, grabbing the nearest weapon. He looks at Steve and lets out a low growl before walking towards. He was going to save her.
He was going to save his family.
Martine was humming quietly to her bump. Because of Bucky's biology, her baby was developing a lot quicker. She already could feel it kick.
Her baby...
She and Bucky needed to get out...if he came back...
'He will,' her mind insists. 'And when he does, we're gonna leave and be a peaceful family.'
"Hopefully," she whispers.
Just then, the door opened, and Zemo came in. He had a syringe, filled with something. He smiles at her and comes over.
"Now...let's see what we can do about that little foetus of yours, huh?"
Martine nearly explodes and screams, suddenly sending him flying backwards. He wasn't touching her baby. Never.
She rubbed her bump reassuringly until she saw a man enter the base. She tried to fight him off but he injected her with some sort of strange serum.
The pain was unbearable and she actually screamed. Zemo growled and stood, dragging her out of the room with help from the other man. They chuckled slightly.
"Looks like that serum might make you give birth early, Mrs. Barnes," he said cruelly. Martine whimpered fearfully as they strapped her down onto a bed.
Her baby...her baby boy.
Bucky almost ended up murdering someone when the DVD was shown. It showed Martine strapped down onto a bed and being injected with some sort of serum into her stomach. She was in serious pain and her condition was deteriorating severely. The baby was in fetal distress. Dr. Addison Montgomery and Helen Cho had warned Bucky that he needed to be prepared for the worst.
Tony and Hank were desperately trying to find and pinpoint her location, and now Bucky had to take in the prospect that his wife and unborn son might both die.
It broke his heart.
He buried his face into his hands, silently crying. His shoulders shook as he pulled out his pocket watch, and looked at the photo of Martine on the left side.
"I'm going to find you, doll. I promise, Martine," he promised. He saw a relived looking Steve enter the room.
"We've found out where she is, Bucky! She's in an old HYDRA base in Siberia," Steve explained quickly. Bucky quickly got up and grabbed his sniper rifle.
"Then let's get my woman back. I'm not letting her go."
Martine felt like she was fading away. She wasn't sure why but she knew her baby was safe, but felt sick. She kept on coughing, and saw a young woman enter.
Senator Ellen Nadeer.
"Are you ready to say goodbye to your devil's child, Martine?" The woman asked coldly. She saw a surgeon had entered the room, and tried to pull herself free.
She wouldn't let them kill her baby. She wouldn't let them touch her baby as long as she lived.
"Stay away from me!" she screamed desperately, trying to use her powers as she was slammed down onto the table.
Bucky almost charged into the base, finding himself fighting against Rumlow. Clint and Steve covered him.
"Your wife's dead, Barnes."
Bucky yells out and punches the man so hard he goes unconscious. He runs into the building, taking out guards as quick as possible, before finding some at the door.
They made their sticks go on, electricity running through them.
"You're not going-"
He instantly hits one and kicks the other, sending them flying. His hands goes to the door and he opens it, aiming his gun. Two men inside try to shoot him but he kills them first.
The surgeon steps back, but Bucky knocks him out before he could say anything else.
"Bu..."
His head snaps over to the woman in the bed. Martine looked...ghastly, and in so much pain. He rushes over and pushes away her hair. "I'm here, doll. I'm here."
She coughs hard, blood coming up this time. No...
"Baby's...coming," she groans in pain. A contraction goes through her and she throws her head back, practically screaming. Bucky looks at Steve.
"It's too early for this," he says quickly.
"The serum must have made her gone into early labour," he says quickly. "We need to get her out of here before-"
"I can't move," she gasps in pain. "I...I need to push. It's hurt too much..."
"Martine, it's gonna be alright. I promise. I promise doll, I promise," Bucky said comfortingly as he held her hand tightly. They didn't even have a midwife to help them.
At that moment, Addison arrived with Helen and the two women began assisting her along with Jean Grey. There was a lot of blood staining the bedsheets.
Bucky kept Martine looking at him. She was trying so hard to be brave but it was hard on her. He rubbed her back soothingly, and whispered that she was doing very well.
Martine screamed in pain, tears swimming down her face. Bucky brushed them away with his flesh fingers. Martine went limp in his arms, and he saw the baby being born.
There wasn't any crying.
Wanda began to cry softly, tears swimming down her face as did Beatrice. Jeanette quietly looked at them as Martine lay unresponsive in Bucky's arms while Addison and Jean tended to the young mother. Helen tried to get the baby breathing.
Numb and heartbroken, Bucky looked over and saw his baby being resuscitated and overheard the conversation.
"He's so small...it's not looking good."
Wanda numbly came out of the room. She was aware that her suit had blood on it. Adrian anxiously came over with the others, who looked at her anxiously.
"Are they...?" Rhodey asked shakily.
Wanda shook her head. Her voice was shaking when she started to speak, and it was through shaking sobs.
"The baby's not breathing, and Martine's bleeding badly...it's not looking good. I'm so sorry," she sobbed tearfully. Adrian held her tightly as they saw Steve shakily come out.
"The serum that they injected Martine with...it made her go into labour early. They're trying to get the baby breathing but it's not looking good," Steve said quietly.
Everyone went quiet. Natasha rested her hands over her slightly swelling stomach and felt her own eyes sting with tears.
'Please god, please. Don't take Bucky's family from him.'
Bucky tried not to cry. He really did but a few tears slid down his face. He saw his son being very gently wrapped up in a thick, warm, dark blue blanket. Martine stirred weakly and her eyes saw him. Fear flashed in her blue eyes and she swallowed.
"My baby...where's our baby?" She asked fearfully. Bucky swallowed and kissed her forehead tenderly, his heart breaking.
"Martine...he...he's not very well," he said thickly. Martine saw their son wrapped up in a thick dark blue cashmere blanket, and he was very still.
No...no, oh no.
Martine sobbed and buried her face into his chest, crying silently for their Jasper...when they heard a soft, cry.
The women looked shocked but relieved. Addison immediately placed the newborn baby boy on Martine's chest, so he could feel his mother's skin.
"Here's your little boy, mommy and daddy."
Cheers were heard outside. Martine cried softly as she was looking into the eyes of her son. He grabbed her and Bucky's fingers and they both cried.
She was carefully picked up and placed on a stretcher with blankets on her. She smiled softly.
Her son was safe.
With that in her mind, her brain fizzled out and she went limp.
Bucky looks down at Martine and saw that she was quiet, before noticing that she was passed out. He growls and kicks down anyone that came in his easy multiple times, keeping an eye on his son.
He was on his mother's chest, resting.
"I can do this," he growls. He shoots he last person in the head and then runs to the jet, getting her on. The others run and close the door. Bucky takes his son and looks down at the boy.
"Oh my god," he whispers. "I'm..."
They take off, and Steve rests a hand against his shoulder. "You're a dad, Bucky."
"I am," he mumbles, before looking over at Martine. "Someone hook her up to an IV, she needs some help." Steve nods and barks out orders before looking down at his son.
His beautiful baby.
Bucky holds him close and the baby snuffled softly. The ride back was quiet. He closed his eyes before kissing his son's soft forehead tenderly.
"It's alright little man. You're safe and your daddy isn't gonna let anyone hurt your or your mama," he promised. The baby cooed up at him softly, before they landed at the tower.
The baby was rushed to the NICU unit. Bucky was torn between going with their son or staying with Martine who had woken up. She took his hand weakly but with a firm grip.
"Go with him, James. Please, I don't want him to be alone," she said firmly. Bucky nodded and kissed her tenderly before stroking her cheek.
"Take care of her, please," he said quietly: Helen nodded and they took Martine into surgery, while Bucky went to join their baby boy who was in the NICU unit.
He'd been put in a diaper that just barely fit him and he had a blue hat on his soft forehead. He had tubes on him and a heart monitor was beating steadily.
Bucky gently took his little fingers in his larger hand and stroked his soft skin gently.
This was his and Martine's son.
Martine was allowed to visit her son and Bucky after going to the bathroom since having the operation. She could have more children but was warned that she'd be at risk of giving birth early. Sharon wheeled her into the NICU unit and tears stung her eyes as she saw Bucky up ahead with their son against his bare chest. He looked so...tiny.
"Hello there, Jasper Steven Barnes," she whispered thickly. Bucky smiled at her widely. He gently placed him on Martine's chest, and she cuddled him.
Sharon smiled at the scene, along with the others. She was happy and relieved that Martine and Jasper were doing fine.
While Bucky and Martine bonded with their son, Steve and the others were talking quietly. T'Challa joined them. Things were getting really bad.
"Then I would like to offer all of you and the X-Men sanctuary in Wakanda, Mr. Stark and Mr. Rogers," T'Challa said seriously, causing them all to stare.
"Holy shit!" Wade said shocked. Logan glared and put his hand over his mouth to keep him quiet.
"Are you sure?" Steve asked stunned.
"Of course I'm sure. It's obvious Martine and Bucky need a stable place to keep this child safe. Living out in the world might make it more of a threat. If you come to Wakanda, there will be security for them."
Steve looks at Tony, who nods. They may not be best buddies, but they could agree on this. "Thank you, T'Challa."
"No need."
"He's so beautiful," Martine whispers, looking up at Bucky. "How...how are we still alive after all this?"
"Just are," Bucky says softly. He looks at her quietly before tilting her head up, kissing her softly. She smiles and pulls away, before sighing.
"James...I want Jasper to be safe. This can't happen again."
Bucky sighs and nods. "I know...trust me, I do." He looks down at the ground, his hands suddenly balling into fists. "I was so terrified...I've never felt so much fear in my life."
Enjoy, and review :)
