Now, before I start, I would like to say that I saw the Sizzle Trailer for The Bad Batch, as well as the newest episodes of The Mandalorian, including the Season Finale. I am so excited for when The Book of Boba Fett comes out next year. Now, onto what you asked me in the reviews. To T-Bone, I will have to see about Barriss getting the Dark Side removed from her, but you know that the darkness never goes away within anyone, Jedi or not. I could think about that one-shot for Darth Sidious, it sounds like an interesting thought. I actually had an undercover mission idea, but my friend, MinuteMan76, said it would be too much like how Aqualad went undercover, so I scrapped it, and I'm not sure if I'll use an undercover mission. I'll think about a chapter with all the female warriors working together. For Volfe Karkko, I think I could work something out. I'll try to work something for the cast of Liberty's Kids too. As for the art requests, I'm not sure. I'll have to think it over. Thank you for the news on everything Star Wars and DC too. It really helps. Now, with all questions answered, here is my newest Chapter! Please feel free to review, rate, and be sure to enjoy!
Chapter 34: Plus One
In Memory of David Prowse (July 1st, 1935 – November 28th, 2020)
And…
In Memory of Jeremy Bulloch (February 16th, 1945 – December 17th, 2020)
Pursue the path you want to pursue, not the path that is placed for you.
A time of rising! As the army of the Shadow Collective, led by Darth Maul, continues to grow, so do the forces of the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems united as the Allied Forces. Having been inducted into the Jedi Order after a skirmish on Christophsis, Serena Jinn Ranos, daughter of Qui-Gon Jinn and descendant of Dazh Ranos, starts her training at the Jedi Temple. Already having assisted in the arrest of infamous gangster Ryan Balmorra, she proves to be a prodigy with the Force like her father before her. Now, we find her training, where a few new discoveries will be made in this new adventure…
Ahsoka, Miss Martian and Barriss walked into the training room, passing by other Jedi Knights and Masters. Inside, several Younglings were with Master Tera Sinube, watching as Serena was using a wooden training saber to deflect incoming lasers from the floating training remotes around her, her sight covered by a focus helmet. Utilizing Ataru, she was able to deflect all the bolts sent at her, even spinning through the air to avoid getting shot at some points.
"She's not too bad," M'gann admitted. "I remember how hard of a time I had with just one of these."
"She's the daughter of Qui-Gon Jinn and the descendant of Dazh Ranos," Ahsoka notes. "What did you expect?"
"Serra's also got a Jedi legacy," M'gann countered back. "And from what the other students of Cin Drallig told me, even she had her troubles."
"Well, they say that everyone has a gift within them," Barriss said, crossing her arms with an impressed look on her face. "Aside from inheriting both of her ancestor's Crossguard Lightsabers, she's probably got another one."
Serena continued deflecting the blaster bolts and toning out all the distractions around her before getting two blasts to blast at each other by getting in between them and jumping at the right moment. Her helmet was lifted off of her head with the Force, and she saw that Master Tera Sinube was now walking towards her, with the other Younglings applauding.
"An excellent display, Serena," Tera Sinube said. "You fight almost similarly to your father."
"Thank you, Master," Serena said with a bow of respect. "My father left me recordings of all forms of lightsaber combat for me to learn with when I reached the age of ten. Those were the only things I have to remember him by." She added on sadly.
"As long as Jedi like us remember him for his actions and valor, he will never be forgotten," Tera Sinube said. He turned to Ahsoka, Barriss and M'gann and smiled. "Seems you have friends here to visit you." He said.
Serena looked over and smiled. She walked up to the three before she and Ahsoka shared a hug.
"Ahsoka! M'gann, Barriss, great to see you all again!" Serena said happily. "How have you been?"
"Doing well," Ahsoka replied. She looked to what Serena was wearing. "I see you've gotten comfortable here too."
Indeed, Serena had gotten a new look. Before, she wore standard Jedi robes. Now, they were dyed in different colors. The top tunic had a magenta color to it with a crimson shirt underneath. She had a brown utility belt, with dark-red pants and brown boots. On her hair was now a proper Padawan braid, which she stroked carefully.
"Yeah," Serena said, blushing a little. "I got permission from some of the Masters, and they said I could modify my robes," she explained as she showed herself off front and back. "Something lavish, but not enough to make me stand out too much."
"Well, I, for one, like it," Barriss said. "It's a good look for you."
"Thanks, Barriss," Serena said. "Truth be told, while I've been allowed to get proper training, the Council is still deciding on a Master to officially train me."
"If there were any meeting I'd wish to be a fly on the wall of, it would be that Council discussion," M'gann said. "No doubt it's quite a debate."
In the Council Chambers, all of the Jedi Masters were together, either there in person or in holographic display.
"As you have all seen for yourself, Serena is a powerful Jedi, almost above the level that Qui-Gon was on," Obi-Wan told everyone. He turned to Mace Windu. "Even you, Master Windu, have seen what she is capable of."
"That I have," Mace Windu said. "Serena Jinn Ranos certainly has potential, given who her father was."
"And the Jedi Order needs more Jedi with her kind of drive and motivation," Shaak Ti added on. "Ahsoka, M'gann, Barriss and Serra are proof of that."
"And who do you suggest would train her?" Agen Kolar asked. "Many of us can train Jedi, but someone needs to ensure the kind of training that Qui-Gon would have been given himself since she is his daughter."
"I would offer my services, but my hands are tied with Caleb," Depa Billaba said. "I knew Qui-Gon before the Battle of Naboo. In all honesty, I agreed with his beliefs on how we should be acting rather than how we already are."
"We still must be cautious of how we act," Kit Fisto pointed out. "Just like Maul and the Shadow Collective, we cannot take things lightly. The Dark Side clouds everything."
"So, what will our decision for Serena be?" Stass Allie asked.
"Observe her more, we will," Master Yoda said. "Only when the time is right, we will act."
Later on, Serena was with the Young Justice in the Martian Bioship, flying towards the Equinox.
"So, you don't remember anything at all?" Serena asked.
"Just a fight against the top half of Maul, guys who looked like Clone Troopers, and red versions of them," Rocket said. "But not much else."
"Any word from Anakin?" Aqualad asked Ahsoka, trying to get away from the subject.
"He's with Captain Rex in another mission," Ahsoka replied. "Something about Naboo for an extra inspection at the aftermath of the invasion that took place there a while back."
"If you get in contact with him," Wally started out playfully before Artemis and he shared a devious smirk. "At least tell Padmé we said hello."
"I… don't get it." Serena said, looking to Serra.
"I'll explain later." Serra said as Saw tried and failed to resist the urge to laugh.
Barriss, on the other hand, was deep in thought. Before leaving the Jedi Temple, she recalled meeting with her old master, Luminara Unduli.
Flashback…
Barriss walked to the garden and looked around, thinking of the peace this place held. She walked towards the pond and sat down, removing her boots to place her feet into the water. As she rested, Luminara Unduli walker over and sat down in a kneeling position.
"This was one of your favorite places to retreat to whenever you had taken time off of training," Luminara Unduli said. "I remember you would sometimes rush through your training just to relax here." She said as Barriss looked to her with surprise.
"Hello, Master," Barriss said. "Yes, I remember those times well. It's days like these where I wish I were still completely welcome back."
"Yes, I've heard other Jedi talk," Luminara said sadly. "Barriss, while others don't believe you are completely redeemed, it doesn't mean you should continuously doubt yourself."
"I miss my old life, before I started making bad decisions," Barriss said. "But who would welcome me back besides you and the Young Justice?"
"Perhaps you should find out for yourself," Master Luminara replied. "I have been talking with the Council, and we think your time on probation has ended."
"What are you saying?" Barriss asked curiously.
"You are still my Padawan," Luminara said. "I have never disowned you. And you were still an older Padawan learner before Ahsoka was knighted," she stated. "If you ever feel the need to come back, I will always welcome you with open arms."
Present…
Barriss looked up and felt her shoulder. Since she had started to cure herself, she was no longer showing side effects from the Symbio-Enhancer from her time in the ORDER. She was starting to feel normal again.
"With open arms." Barriss repeated just as the Bioship landed inside of the Hangar Bay.
Jessica and Nomad walked over as the Young Justice with Serena filed out one by one.
"I see you're doing well, Serena," Jessica said as she looked to Serena with a smile. "I like your new robes."
"Thank you, Jessica," Serena said. "I have looked up to you and your planet for a long time. Shei'Ten Kar is truly a wonderful place."
"If only that remained true," Obi-Wan said as he walked over, with Yejyo beside him. "It appears we have a situation on Shei'Ten Kar once again."
"Hello, everyone." Yejyo said.
"Good to see you again, Chief." Ahsoka replied with a two finger salute.
"How can we help, Master Kenobi?" Connor asked.
"There's been a small uprising, one by the Yiga Clan," Yejyo explained. "From our sources, it's nothing too major, only a couple of reprogrammed Battle Droids, so the Allied Forces are taking care of it. The assistance of the 31st Crime Investigatory will help round up the remnants faster, but our newest cadet needs protection getting there."
"Fresh out over the works?" Robin asked.
"She's experienced, but her number of non-contact captures has placed a target on her back," Obi-Wan went on. "Yejyo wanted your assistance in protecting her and her ship on the way to Shei'Ten Kar in case of any attempts on her life."
"Indeed," Yejyo confirmed. He pulled up a holographic display of the shuttle. "This is the ship that will be carrying our new Cadet. Newest from the line of transport vessels, this is a state of the art cruiser. However, it will be still under construction by the time of its first run, which is why I need you all on it."
"The Council has had me assist in the protection of the cadet as well," Obi-Wan said. "The new Cadet is high-level, so we need to endure her safety at all times."
"We're on it," Zatanna said. "No need to worry."
"In all honesty…" Ahsoka said as Serena looked to her. "When there's no need to worry, it's when we worry the most."
Serena gulped nervously. "Dully noted." She said.
Soon, the new cruiser, streamlined in silver and with gold accents, as well as armed front and back with turrets and cannons, as well as enforced shield generators, arrived. At this point, all of the Young Justice were ready, with Serena holding a new lightsaber hilt in her hands before clipping it onto her belt.
"Master Kenobi, you didn't say anything when I joined the Young Justice for this mission," Serena told Obi-Wan as he walked on up. "If anything, you didn't seem at all surprised I was here instead of at the Temple."
"You will need your first field mission sooner or later," Obi-Wan replied. "The Council thinks so too. We believe that this would be a good experience for you, so you know what it's like not just serving the Jedi Order and the Republic, but also a bit of how the Young Justice operates as well."
"I guess that makes sense," Serena said. "Thank you then, for letting me go on my first field mission," she said. "I promise to make you proud."
"I know you will." Obi-Wan said before turning to get on board.
"Wait," Serena said as Ahsoka walked over. "I know you're on the Council, Master, so I wanted to know… has it been decided who will train me?"
Obi-Wan sighed as he turned back to face Serena. "As a leading member, I'm afraid I cannot disclose that information," he told her. "But as I once told Anakin, you will be a Jedi." He said with a reassuring smile before getting onto the ship.
"See? There's hope," Ahsoka said before the rest of the Young Justice got onboard. "Same thing happened with me too."
"Who did you want to have as a master?" Serena asked.
"I had heard so much about Anakin Skywalker when I was a Youngling," Ahsoka explained. "In all honesty, if there was anyone I wanted to be trained by, it was him. When I was told he would be the one to train me, I was so thrilled."
"I do hope Obi-Wan chooses me," Serena said. "To be trained by the man who was a Padawan to my father… that's a true honor." She said happily before making her way in.
"She seems confident," Barriss said as she and Ahsoka walked in together. "I heard you and she pulled off some good moves together against Maul when you two fought him on Christophsis."
"I was just doing what I would have done if it was any of you." Ahsoka stated.
"Speaking of…" Barriss said shyly, stroking her hair. "There's… there's something I've been meaning to tell you since we left the Temple earlier."
"It might have to wait," Ahsoka said. "We need complete focus for the mission ahead."
"Um, yes. Of course," Barriss stuttered before walking in. "It can wait, sure thing."
Ahsoka noticed the stutter in Barriss's voice and eyed her. Deciding to indeed bring it up with her later, the two made their way to the middle of the room of the ship. It was a large room with enough seats to fit more members of the 31st Crime Investigatory. Standing in the center was a dark-skinned woman with dark hair, sharp glasses, and blue eyes. She wore a dark-green version of the suit of the 31st Crime Investigatory members, with thick crimson accents over her as well. She also had a badge to signify her rank as a cadet.
"You must be the new cadet," Ahsoka deducted, making her way over and holding out her hand. "I am Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano, and leader of the Young Justice division in this Galaxy. Pleasure to meet you."
The young girl looked to Ahsoka and extended her own hand as well, shaking Ahsoka's. "Cadet Sojourner Mullein, at your service," she said. "I have heard a lot about each and every one of you. You would all certainly make great members of the 31st."
"We're pleased where we are, but thank you, Sojourner." Katana said.
"Call me Jo," Sojourner said. "Formalities are standard, but simple names are better too. Plus… it's easier to say." She added on with a bit of a playful look on her face.
"Jo it is, then," Artemis said before looking to the cockpit up ahead. "Ringa, we all set?" She called out.
Ringa Shi, who was at the controls with Yejyo, nodded and activated the announcer system. "Better get comfortable, guys," she announced. "Because of the self-constructing system finishing up the ship, we'll be traveling the long way to Shei'Ten Kar. Best get ready for anything."
Everyone nodded before turning to Ahsoka.
"Superboy, Saw, I want you two at the back to keep an eye on the rear," Ahsoka ordered. "Jessica can fly alongside us now that we know we're not going through Hyperspace, and Nomad and Lux can keep a close eye out on the sides," she added on. "Serena, Barriss and Katooni stay with me. Katana and Metamorpho, guard the docking bay," she went on. "Everyone else, be on guard around different areas of the room. In case anyone attacks here, we'll need the numbers to take him, her, or them on."
"Right," Saw complied with a nod before he and Connor went to the back. "How are you with M'gann, by the way?" He asked the Boy of Steel, though not quite out of earshot of Serra or Miss Martian.
"Doing well," Connor replied as M'gann started to playfully nudge Serra. "You and Serra make a move?"
"You have no idea." Saw answered, causing Serra to both laugh and blush.
"I'm just… gonna go outside now." Jessica said before activating her Green Lantern suit. As soon as it was on, she flew out.
Everyone else ran to their positions as soon as the consort ship took off. Unknown up them, a familiar helicopter with red glowing blades, with two other fighter ships, slowly started to follow behind them.
"Remember the plan."
"We know, Master… we know."
Inside of the ship, Obi-Wan was looking through the hallways for any signs of trouble, his hand ready at his main lightsaber with his other saber given to him by Ahsoka placed next to it. Upon not sensing any presence in the hall, he walked into the main room, where Sojourner was on patrol as well.
"Thank you all for your protection," Jo said. "It means a lot, knowing that Jedi like you and people like the Young Justice are here to help look after everyone."
"We do our job, cadet," Obi-Wan said as Serena walked over. "We would not be any good to the galaxy if we did not perform our civic duties."
"Just what we like to hear," Obi-Wan said before seeing Serena. "I hope you perform well once we get to Shei'Ten Kar," he said before giving a respectful bow. "If you excuse me, I must speak with someone else."
"As you were then, General Kenobi." Jo said before Obi-Wan walked off.
Serena smiled before Obi-Wan walked up to her. "That was a good speech you gave," she said. "I do so hope that I can live up to those same expectations that you and the rest of the Jedi hold."
"I am sure you will," Obi-Wan said. He looked to the new lightsaber on her belt. "Well, I see you've constructed a new lightsaber. Huyang is wise to let you make a design based on one of my Master's original sabers."
"Yeah, when I went to him and told him who I was, he was ecstatic, probably because of who my father was," Serena said as she unhooked her new hilt to show off. "While my ancestor's lightsabers are what I trained to use, I wanted to try something new with normal lightsabers. So, he showed me the designs that Qui-Gon made, and I made something combining his first lightsaber with something of my own design, and this is what I came up with."
"It certainly suits you," Ahsoka said, walking over. "You will make a great Padawan to whichever Master decides to train you."
"Just wish I knew who," Serena said before blushing nervously. "Sorry if I keep repeating myself, I'm just very nervous about who I will be with for training."
"Trust in yourself and in the Force," Ahsoka advised. "You will know when the time is right for you to receive the training you want."
"Thanks," Serena said. "What was it like for you, then?" she asked curiously.
"Well, there was this other Jedi training with me at the time, but she went down a dark path and went after M'gann a few years later, which was a year ago from today," Ahsoka explained, recalling to how M'gann was targeted for being the Lost One. "We both desired to train under Anakin… but I wanted to do things right while she wanted to stay true to the Jedi way," she added on. "Don't stick to it too much," she advised cautiously. "Those with too much devotion end up going down the wrong path for the right reasons."
"I understand," Serena said with a nod. "Father always said not to look to the past or the future too much, but to have a balance of both. It was what made him a millennial in the eyes of the other Jedi, from what I was told."
"Well, being a millennial isn't so bad," Ahsoka said with a chuckle. "There's a ton of them on Earth."
"Is that how you got so powerful?" Serena asked as she and Obi-Wan walked with Ahsoka towards the main room. "Because of your time on Earth?"
"I didn't plan to go there originally," Ahsoka said. "But in a way… I'm glad I was able to go there," she said. "It opened my eyes to things I never knew before."
"I'd love to go and visit it someday." Serena said.
"I would like to spend some more time there as well," Obi-Wan said. "Perhaps once the war is over, I could see what it has to offer."
Outside, one of the fighter ships started to slowly disassemble. The second one did so as well, and they lightly latched onto the ship before docking tubes connected, carving smooth holes into it.
Paula was patrolling around when she heard the noise. She looked around and let her targeting scope fold down over her visor, clicking into place. Look around, she found an infrared laser starting to cut through.
"We've got company!" Paula called out over the Comms.
Everyone looked around before Artemis and Kid Flash, closest to where Paula was, raced on over.
"What's going on?" Kid Flash asked.
"We're being boarded!" Artemis exclaimed. "Counter lasers, now!"
Artemis and her mother both shot at the locations where the invisible lasers were cutting through, and started to redirect them. Kid Flash placed his goggles over his eyes and spun his arms around, sending wind to help force the piece of the ship back into place as well.
"South corridor, hurry!" Paula yelled to everyone else.
"Get ready!" Metamorpho called out as everyone ran to their positions.
"I'm on my way!" Katana called as she and Zatanna ran over to help.
From underneath the ship, as it was still being automatically assembled together, the small helicopter flew. From its turret cannon, it fired at the hull, exposing the floor of the main room.
"They're here!" Obi-Wan exclaimed.
"Jessica, do you have a visual?" Ahsoka asked.
Jessica flew over and narrowed her eyes. "It's her," she announced. "Saand'ra."
Indeed, Lady Shiva flew into the room. Spinning into the air, she split her legs apart and used the Force to levitate her Shadow Saber scabbard into her left hand, the main lightsaber going into her right. Her two red Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers flew next to her before her armor retreated into her upgraded jetpack, which compacted so that it formed over her left arm in addition to her back. She soon landed on the ground, and activated her Shadow Saber's silver blade.
"Lady Shiva!" Ahsoka exclaimed as she, Barriss, Serra, Katooni, Obi-Wan and Serena all activated their lightsabers. "Why am I not surprised? You were from Shei'Ten Kar, so of course you would want to ruin any chances of restoring order there."
"Don't point the finger at me, it's Darth Maul who wants this arranged," Lady Shiva said. "As you know, Shei'Ten Kar is known not just for its resources, but also for its many pieces of advanced technology."
"Watchtowers and drones won't help your side win," Jessica said as she flew in, activating her Royal Saber. "You know as well as I do that not even the Yiga Clan could control them without a dozen problems."
"Not without outside help." Lady Shiva stated with a smirk.
"Maul is here?" Obi-Wan asked, readying his lightsaber. "I'm honored."
"Whoever said the leader of the Shadow Collective himself was boarding, Master Kenobi?" Lady Shiva quibbled.
At the intrusion point, the holes were completed, and both panels cut were flung towards Artemis, Huntress and Kid Flash. The three dodged out of the way before Bemulaire and Tokoyami entered, both with their lightsabers activated.
"So, Tokoyami," Katana said as she ran in, her own Shadow Saber activated. "We meet again."
"I've been waiting for our rematch, Yamashiro Tatsu," Tokoyami said. She looked to Bemulaire as the latter spun around her lightsaber claymore. "Get to the control room," she ordered. "I will deal with the mongrels here."
"Of course." Bemulaire replied. She ran through, only for Artemis and Huntress to fly on after her.
"Rex, let's move!" Katana called out as she placed her Shadow Saber in a reverse-grip.
Tokoyami simply readied her own lightsaber, the two combatants staring each other down. Calmly, they walked towards each other, keeping their stances. Without warning, Tokoyami struck at Katana, who held the Shadow Saber in one defensive position before spinning it out of a reverse-grip to block a side attack. The two held their blades together before running along the ship, Metamorpho turning his arms into a Kyber Crystal texture.
In the main room, Ahsoka and her team looked around, already hearing the clash of the lightsabers. Lady Shiva grinned as she looked around as well.
"You hear that?" Lady Shiva asked. "My friends are already fighting yours. Soon, we will be in control of the ship, despite its shoddy state, and use its design to make more for our fleet," she said. "Shame that I can't get a real challenge, though," she added on with a smirk. "Anakin Skywalker would have been a better opponent… or even Count Dooku himself. A champion of the Duel on Geonosis and the winner of the Bout at the Jedi Temple make for an unstoppable force."
"Sorry to disappoint," Serra said. "But you'll have to contend with us…"
"All of us!" Katooni added on.
"Oh… I intend to." Lady Shiva said before one of her Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers flew at the Jedi.
Serra gasped as the red blades started to spin and attack. She blocked one end with her ancestor's lightsaber before Katooni locked with another.
"Coward!" Barriss yelled. She ran at Lady Shiva, but she tossed her scabbard at her, forcing her to slash it to the side. However, the distraction allowed for her to send her second Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsaber at her, which she was forced to fend off, before the scabbard ricocheted off back at her.
Barriss looked to the scabbard and flipped in the air, avoiding both an overhead strike and a low sweep, before landing on the ground in a perfect split to block the red blades again.
"Hope your training has paid off. I've been working on this new technique for a long time now," Lady Shiva said with a smirk. "Now, the rest of you… stand down, or I'll make it hurt."
"You first!" Jo called out, taking out her blaster and firing it at Lady Shiva.
Lady Shiva turned around and let her scabbard ricochet back to her, blocking several blasts sent at her before she pushed Jo back with the Force.
"Your aim still needs work," Lady Shiva remarked. "No wonder you're a rookie."
"One rookie to another…" Serena said, walking up and taking out her new lightsaber. "We've always got a surprise!"
Lady Shiva gasped and turned around, placing her Shadow Saber in a reverse-grip to block Serena's attack. Her new lightsaber shone a blue-green blade to it as soon as it was activated, sparking against Lady Shiva's silver blade.
"Not bad. I had heard that the daughter of Qui-Gon Jinn was more than a rumor," Lady Shiva spat before the two broke off, allowing Ahsoka and Obi-Wan to move in to help in the fight. "This just might be fun after all." She retorted as she held out the Shadow Saber. The scabbard flew onto the pommel, creating her naginata, before she held the weapon with both hands.
All three Jedi circled around Lady Shiva as she looked to each of her opponents, seeing the rest of the Young Justice members not occupied with Tokoyami or Bemulaire around her as well. Everyone waited for the right moment to strike, not daring to make a mistake in any of their moves.
Bemulaire continued to make her way to the control room. She noticed several security droids in her way, all starting to fire. Grinning, she spun around her lightsaber claymore and deflected each of the blasts, letting them hit different areas of the ship around her. One of them grabbed her, but she took out her normal-sized lightsaber and stabbed it before cleaving another one in half. As several more fired at her, she spun around her claymore lightsaber again, deflecting each of the shots before deactivating her blade and using the massive hilt to bludgeon a droid in the head.
Two more droids shot at Bemulaire, but she clubbed them as well before stabbing another in the chest. Pushing it back, she swung it over her head and impaled another before forcing seven security droids into a single line, where she activated her blade again to destroy them all. They all soon exploded, and she emerged now in a crouched position as five droids around her fell with their heads cut off.
"I knew you were good," Nomad said as Bemulaire got up. She turned around to see him with his mask over his mouth and armed with both of his crossguard lightsabers. "A shame that I never got to fight you in person."
"You don't have the Force, but you're strong," Bemulaire said as blast doors started to seal around them. "I'm gonna enjoy bleeding those swords of yours."
"Come and try." Nomad said before using his wrist blaster to shoot at her.
Bemulaire deflected the blasts before slashing at Nomad, who blocked one attack with his green crossguard lightsaber before forcing her back with the blue one in his left. She swung the pommel of her hilt at him, forcing his lightsabers into the air. In retaliation, he kicked off of the ground and kicked her weapon away, leaving both of them disarmed. The two looked to each other and got into defensive fighting stances as their respective lightsabers fell to different areas of the concealed room.
Bemulaire ran at Nomad, who ducked down low, before sending forth a series of punches at her. She pushed all the fist strikes sent at her away before locking her fist with his. The two struggled to gain momentum before breaking off and sending kicks at each other, legs intertwined in midair. Kicking off, they sent two more jabs before Nomad backflipped away from an open-palm chop. As he ran to the door, she ran after him, and the two twirled in the air in tandem to where their weapons were. Both landed and activated them again, Nomad once again with his blue crossguard lightsaber in his right hand and his green crossguard lightsaber in his left hand this time, while Bemulaire held her claymore lightsaber at the ready. The two glared at each other before charging, locking blades immediately upon contact.
Ahsoka swung her Double-Bladed Padawan Lightsaber at Lady Shiva, who dodged the low strikes by leaping through the air before locking her Shadow Saber blade with the top blue blade. Ahsoka narrowed her eyes at her before Lady Shiva broke off and used the scabbard end of her naginata to push Ahsoka back. As she did, Obi-Wan swung his lightsaber at her, but she managed to separate her weapons to block the attack.
Lady Shiva looked around and grinned before Lux fired at her. She broke off and deflected the blasts before Aqualad ran in, slashing with his Water-Bearers, now as katanas. The two parried off each others' attacks quickly before Robin tossed several of his birdarangs in her direction. She flipped over them, but was met by Miss Martian with her crossguard lightsaber.
"Impressive," Lady Shiva said. "It's been a while since you've gotten the drop on me."
"The next time will be sooner." Miss Martian quipped before pushing Lady Shiva away.
Zatanna ran in and slammed her sword at Lady Shiva, who leapt back to lock blades with Rocket. As they stared each other down, she landed again, but was met by Jaybo as he fired at her. Spinning around her scabbard, she sent all of his blasts to the side before sensing another attack. Grinning, she spun around and lifted up a chair with the Force, revealing Serena going in for an attack. She broke off and tossed the chair to the side before her lightsaber was pulled from her hand.
"That all you—"
Before Lady Shiva could finish her mocking statement, Serena ran in and kicked her in the face, allowing her to regain her lightsaber. She grabbed it as soon as it fell to the ground and activated it again, holding it close to her head just like Qui-Gon Jinn would do.
"I've got more where that came from!" Serena spat back.
As this was happening, Katana was backflipping away from several strikes sent by Tokoyami. As she was, Metamorpho sent several punches at her, all of which were dodged before the two kicked away at each other. After a while, she sent a punch, which was blocked by his fist.
"Not too bad," Tokoyami said as she started to gain momentum, much to Rex's surprise. "I heard you went toe to toe with Lord Maul. I didn't think it was true, but here we are now."
"Your skills ain't so bad either," Rex Mason said. "Too bad we're on opposite sides. Actually, no it isn't. You're not my type."
"Right, you're a freak." Tokoyami mocked.
"I don't toy with fool's gold… my only one is Sapphire!" Metamorpho roared before finally pushing Tokoyami away.
Katana appeared behind Tokoyami as she stumbled back. The fellow Shade to Lady Shiva gasped and blocked her blade with her own, the two engaging in a blade lock. They broke off soon afterwards, Katana tossing several shurikens in her direction. Tokoyami stopped each of them with the Force before taking out her second lightsaber, which she used to block a Kyber Crystal-powered punch from Metamorpho. Using her main lightsaber, she slashed at Katana again, the two making a flurry of movements with each other before the Shade spun around, fending off against both of her opponents at the same time. She stopped as soon as she slammed her lightsabers onto the ground, forcing Metamorpho back so that she would have enough breathing room with Katana.
"Not bad, Samurai." Tokoyami spat.
"Let's bushido, Shade." Katana said, holding her Shadow Saber at the ready.
Serena leapt and kicked at Lady Shiva as she tossed her scabbard at her, sending it to the side. Once it was discarded, the two struck up high with Soresu and Niman respectively, clashing blades before striking down, both utilizing Ataru. Lady Shiva growled and broke off, elbowing Serena away before slashing at her with a downwards slash. Serena held her temple while placing her saber in her left hand, blocking the attacks before knocking the Shadow Saber into the air.
Lady Shiva snarled again and kicked at Serena's hand, knocking her lightsaber into the air. The two stared each other down, with the Shade still using the Force to keep her lightsabers battling against Serra, Katooni and Barriss. Soon, the two leapt up, catching not their own weapons, but Serena with the Shadow Saber and Lady Shiva with Serena's own lightsaber, activating upon grasp.
Lady Shiva spun around and sent a Makashi jab, but Serena parried off with Shii-Cho and elbowed her away. Lady Shiva caught the elbow and pushed her back before striking again from above. This time, Serena managed to sidestep and send a Force Push that sent Lady Shiva back several feet. The Shade chuckled as she kept her position before sending a small blast of Sith Lightning at her. Serena dodged out of the way of one blast before blocking another blast. Absorbing it into the blade, she sent it back at Lady Shiva, tossing the Shadow Saber as well. This act knocked her lightsaber out of Lady Shiva's hand, where it flew back to its rightful owner.
As Lady Shiva was regaining herself, Serena placed her lightsaber in a reverse-grip as she took out one of her crossguard lightsabers. However, instead of holding it by the handle, she held it by one of the side emitters, activating only the main blade to act as a tonfa lightsaber.
"I'm impressed," Lady Shiva said as she held the Shadow Saber at the ready. She looked to see Ahsoka, Miss Martian and Obi-Wan still around her with the rest of the Young Justice and Jo, who kept their weapons aimed at her. "It's not every day that I find someone who can match my own skill."
"Funny," Serena said. "I could say the same thing to you!"
Lady Shiva chuckled before using the Force to call her scabbard into her left hand. The two charged at each other again, Serena locking her main lightsaber against the Shadow Saber, and her makeshift tonfa blade held against Lady Shiva's scabbard. Spinning the latter weapon around, she managed to push Lady Shiva away before slashing at the ground, causing some metal to fly at her. Lady Shiva slashed it apart before finding herself locked with Serena once again.
At the same time, Nomad stabbed his green blade into the ground, blocking an attack from Bemulaire. She spun her lightsaber away and attacked him at his forehead, but he used his blue blade to block it before kicking his grounded weapon. It deactivated and flew to the air, where he caught it to block an incoming attack from Bemulaire just in time. As the two struggled for control, she elbowed him away, but his pauldron managed to protect him as he kicked her backwards.
"I really hope you didn't come with just yourself and two friends," Nomad said as he aimed his left blade forward. "We wouldn't be having more fun otherwise."
"Oh, three is all we need to keep you occupied," Bemulaire spat. "There's more we want than this ship, after all."
"A while ago, you just said you were here to take control of the ship and add it to Maul's fleet," Nomad said as he and Bemulaire circled each other around. "Or maybe… there's a motive you're not telling me, perhaps?"
"Sorry, soldier boy," Bemulaire mocked, wagging her finger back and forth. "But you're not getting me that easily!" she quipped before jumping and stabbing her lightsaber claymore at him.
Nomad gasped and activated his Vambrace, letting out a shield. It held against the lightsaber blade for a moment before dissolving away. Once it did, he slashed wide at her, to which she managed to counter by blocking it with the pommel of her claymore hilt.
"You won't get me so easily either." Nomad quipped.
Meanwhile, Katana and Tokoyami were aiming their weapons at each other as they ran down the hallway. Keeping their weapons aimed, they continued to run before twirling over some crates in the docking bay, where they locked upon landing. Metamorpho ran in and punched her, but she caught his fist and twirled to face Katana again, her two lightsaber daggers held against her Shadow Saber.
"You know… for a Shade…" Katana started out, struggling as she pressed her special Shadow Saber against the lightsaber daggers of Tokoyami. "You have qualities that I like!"
"And you have proven to be quite a worthy adversary, Katana!" Tokoyami complimented, pushing harder. "I'll see to it that you get cremated after I burn you alive!"
"Well, ain't that swell?" Katana remarked. She and Tokoyami pushed off of each other and panted heavily, sweat starting to drip from their bodies.
Connor and Saw arrived and helped Metamorpho get up. The three watched the two female warriors sweat as they held their weapons still.
"Who's winning?" Saw asked.
"So far… both have four tally marks," Metamorpho replied. "Not sure who will end up getting the fifth."
Feeling the sweat and adrenaline getting to her, Katana held her hand to her boot and slipped it off before using her free foot to remove her other boot. Tokoyami, on the other hand, removed her robe to help get the sweat out of her system, revealing a navy-colored bra with an open back, the cord holding it almost invisible. The two ran at each other again, slashing at the new open areas that were revealed. As Katana kicked Tokoyami away, she in return kicked up a crate and punched it at her, to which she slashed it apart.
Serena backflipped from Lady Shiva, continuing to use her makeshift tonfa lightsaber to fend off against her attacks. As she was, Lady Shiva combined her Shadow Saber and scabbard once more, now using the fighting style of her Master to gain the upper hand. Serena noticed this and parried off the attacks with her main lightsaber before performing a sweep-kick that made Lady Shiva nearly lose her balance. As she struggled to recompose herself, Serena struck with both her weapons, but Lady Shiva swung at her tonfa hand, getting the blade to deactivate. Serena simply dropped her main lightsaber and used her dominant hand to grab the makeshift weapon, now activating its crossguard blade before catching her newer lightsaber, placing it in her left hand.
"She's good," Ahsoka said as she looked to Obi-Wan. "You think she can last longer against someone like Shiva?"
"That depends to be seen," Obi-Wan said. "The two seem openly—"
"Wait," Miss Martian said as she looked around. "I'm sensing a fourth person here."
"Yeah, me too," Zatanna added on as she looked around. "I haven't felt this since… Dathomir."
Serena overheard this as she backed away from Lady Shiva. She managed to block an overhead attack quickly before slashing the Shade back, keeping both of her weapons at the ready position.
"Ah, I see you noticed our surprise," Lady Shiva said with a grin. "You have a few choices. You can stay to face me… or else go after our guest."
Serena narrowed her eyes, almost seeming to lower her lightsabers. Instead, she sprung forward, letting out a barrage of strikes against Lady Shiva, much to her surprise, before kicking her back. As she did, her focus on her two floating Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers broke, and they were called back to her.
"I have Shiva!" Serena called out. "You all find this fourth person! We need to get to Shei'Ten Kar in one piece!"
"You need help?" Jessica asked.
"Don't worry about me, just make sure we still have control of the ship!" Serena replied back.
"Okay," Ahsoka said before everyone else ran off, with Zatanna and Rocket taking the lead. "Serena…" she called, getting Serena and Lady Shiva to turn to her. "May the Force be with you."
Serena nodded as Ahsoka and the Young Justice ran off, Jo still keeping her weapon aimed at Lady Shiva.
"Big mistake, Padawan," Lady Shiva spat. "I'm sure you may know this, but I alone was able to defeat Anakin Skywalker in combat."
"Big deal," Serena said. "I felled Maul."
Lady Shiva's eyes widened as Serena kept her stance. Growling, she utilized Juyo and slashed wide at her once she ran up, but Serena backflipped and held her weapons ready. Utilizing Niman, she lunged at Lady Shiva again, sending forth a barrage of strikes that not even she was able to counter in time. Soon, she was pushed back to the wall. She growled again before Jo shot at her.
This time, Lady Shiva held out her hands, letting her fallen Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers activate and act as shields to protect her. Slowly, she started to advance as Serena held her weapons at the ready while cautiously avoiding getting hit by any of the spinning blades. When she got close enough, she slammed both her blades at Lady Shiva, getting her to use her silver blade, her red blades and her scabbard to block her attack. Breaking off, she leapt right over her and started to deflect several of the five lightsaber blades attacking her plus the scabbard. Now using Soresu, she fluidly held off against them before locking her crossguard lightsaber with the Shadow Saber and her new lightsaber against both red blades, stopping them from spinning.
On the hallway leading to the bridge, another figure started to approach. Several security droids noticed the figure, who took out a Dathomir scythe and cut them apart before they could even draw their blasters. Putting it away, it formed into a snake that wrapped around her wrist. She was about to access the control panel until a lightsaber was thrown at her. She gasped and tossed it away, but her hood was blown off, revealing her face as Ahsoka and the rest of the Young Justice arrived.
"I knew I sensed something familiar," Zatanna said as she looked to the figure, seeing her in black Nightsister robes. "A Nightsister."
"Former Nightsister," the woman replied. "I left them a long time ago."
The ex-Nightsister indeed wore black Nightsister robes, only with feathers on the shoulders and a silver chestplate, as well as vials on her belt like ammunition for a gunner. Her hair was black, and she had green eyes.
"You familiar with the name Asajj Ventress?" Ahsoka asked.
"I was wondering what happened to her," the ex-Nightsister remarked. "Yeah, I know her. An old friend of mine. We were both Bounty Hunters, but not at the same time. I was the first. They call me Charal."
"What made you side with Maul?" Obi-Wan asked.
"He's the brother of one my mother created," Charal remarked. "Not that you Jedi would ever defend an honorary sibling, of course. Blood family, that's different, but when the Sith take down one of your own… you stick up for them. I was welcomed to the Shadow Collective with open arms when I showed myself to my Nightbrother."
"You're in his debt." M'gann noted, readying her crossguard lightsaber.
"I'm not like the other Nightsisters you know… especially you," Charal remarked, looking to Zatanna at her last words. "I've perfected Sith Sorcery… something you're about to witness… firsthand!" she announced before a raven flew to her hand. Chanting with a deep voice in her echo, it formed into an Energy Ichor sword with a golden blade. She shrieked and seemed to sprout wings, flying at everyone and attacking, Zatanna being the first one to clash blades with her.
"You've twisted the Ways of the Sisterhood." Zatanna snarled, pressing against Charal's blade.
"I'm not the only one!" Charal shrieked back, pushing Zatanna back before kicking away Robin as he tried to attack.
"Missed me!" Robin called, regaining himself. He jumped up and tossed several birdarangs at her before taking out his Birdarang Swords.
Charal spun around and used her wings to block the attacks before Barriss struck at her from the other side. She held up her arm, coated with a special substance, to block the lightsaber, before locking with Robin as well. She broke off and shrieked again, slashing all around her until she locked blades with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.
"You scream way too much!" Ahsoka spat.
At the same time in the docking bay, Zatanna and Tokoyami continued to battle, and continuing to sweat as well. Panting heavily as they struck time after time, they both disarmed each other of their lightsabers at the same time with a single swing from each of them.
"Don't… think… you can… keep this up… forever." Tokoyami panted.
"Yeah?" Katana panted as she held her fists ready for an attack. "Well… at least… ah, I don't have a clever quip, so sue me!"
Tokoyami only panted back as the two punched at each other. Immediately, their fists crossed past each other, and they both punched each other in the face. Upon those hits, they both fell on their backs like a ton of bricks.
"Whoa." Connor said in awe.
"Yeah." Metamorpho said. "Even I wouldn't have lasted that long in a fight."
"Wow…" Katana said as she laid on her back. "What a punch."
"I didn't think a samurai could land a hit like that," Tokoyami said before letting out a cough. "I'm impressed again."
"Yeah… same here," Katana replied. "You wanna escape now? I'm sure we can have our second rematch later."
"Yeah, I'm knackered," Tokoyami said as shadows spread under her. "Next time… for sure."
Katana panted and remained lying down. "Hey, guys?" she called out. "Can someone put my boots behind my head? I'm just… I'm just gonna lie down here for the rest of the ride."
"Yeah, sure," Metamorpho said as he, Connor and Saw walked over to help Tatsu get comfortable. "No problem, take your time."
As this was going on, Nomad found himself getting backed away by Bemulaire with her lightsaber claymore strikes. He managed to use both of his lightsabers to fend off against her before starting to use his wrist blasters to send her back. She spun around her large lightsaber quickly to defend herself before the two ran past each other, clashing blades before striking down the wall next to them.
Nomad and Bemulaire were about to continue their fight until they heard some more clashes. The two looked to each other and signaled a short respite before turning to the source of the fight. Turning over, they saw Charal fighting off against the rest of the Young Justice.
"So… three plus one," Nomad noted. He turned back to Bemulaire, who was stopping to catch her breath. "Looks like our fight will have to wait," he said as he turned away. "You're strong, I'll give you that, but right now, I have matters more important than taking you down." He said before running off.
"Humble in retreat," Bemulaire mused. "Nice kid." She noted before running to her fighter.
Katooni cartwheeled back from some of Charal's sword swings before landing in a split to block some of her strikes. As she was, Serra swooped in and slammed both of her Double-Bladed Lightsabers onto her blade, forcing her back.
"Erif nrub nordluac elbbub!" Zatanna incanted, sending several fire blasts at Charal, all of which she was forced to fly out of the way from.
"You can't hit me!" Charal boasted, only to get blasted from the side by surprise. She landed and aimed her sword to see both Ringa and Nomad making their way towards her.
"Wanna bet?" Nomad asked.
"Nice aim." Ringa complimented, readying her blaster arm.
"And that was without a scope." Nomad teased.
Back in the main room, Serena leapt off of a wall as Lady Shiva struck at her again. The wall gave away once the four red blades of the Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsaber hit, revealing the other hallway. Lady Shiva grinned as Ringa, Nomad, Saw and Lux all fired at her, Saw, Metamorpho and Connor running in and attacking immediately once they saw what was going on. Holding her blades in her hands and letting her spinning weapons act as shields as the blasts came towards her, she sent both of her lightsabers towards Ahsoka and Serena.
"Look out!" Ahsoka called, slashing away one of the lightsabers.
"Wait… that's it!" Serena exclaimed. She watched as both Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers flew at her before jumping up, where they continued to follow her.
"What's she doing?" Rocket asked.
"You tell me." Lux said in amazement.
Serena flipped through the air as both Double-Bladed Spinning Lightsabers flew at her. Timing her movement just right, she trapped her foot in between one of the hilts before doing the same with the other.
"What?!" Lady Shiva exclaimed in disbelief.
Serena held her arms out to the lightsabers trapped in her feet, getting them to spin the other way. Now in control, she flew at Lady Shiva, who at first attempted to regain control of her weapons. Upon failing, she formed her naginata once again and tried to attack, only for Serena to perform several kicks at her, which with the lightsabers, were quite lethal. Lady Shiva did her best to fend off against them, but Serena kicked them right at her before slashing her naginata apart. As soon as she did, she placed both of her lightsabers in a reverse-grip and slashed at Lady Shiva's jetpack, causing her to fly out of control before landing near the bridge, where her lightsabers landed next to her.
"Nice moves!" Ahsoka complimented.
"Yeah," Barriss admitted. "She'll make a keeper, alright."
"Wait… what?" Ahsoka asked in confusion.
Serena walked up to Lady Shiva as she tried to recover. She stopped upon seeing both of Serena's lightsabers aimed at her neck.
"Do not try to take this ship again," Serena said. "You have failed, Shade."
"That was quite an impressive performance," Lady Shiva admitted. "Your father would be proud of you… now finish the job."
"I'm never falling for that," Serena said, deactivating her lightsabers and putting them away. She looked out the window and grinned. "We're at Shei'Ten Kar already, anyway," she pointed out. "Return to your Master, and tell him that the daughter of the man he murdered is a Jedi now, and that if you try anything stupid next time… I will not spare your life again… or his."
Lady Shiva chuckled. "You've got moxie, kid," she said as she got up, shadows starting to surround her. "Let's see how far it gets you. I'm rooting for you all the way." She said before disappearing away from the ship, taking Charal with her.
"I hate to agree with someone from the Shadow Collective, but I agree with what Lady Shiva said," Obi-Wan said as he walked up to Serena. "Your father would be proud of you, Serena, just as the Council will be proud that they have appointed me as your Master."
"Thank you, Master Kenobi," Serena said. "Now that we've made it here, with Jo safe and sound… what is our next move?"
"We return to Coruscant," Ahsoka said. "As we speak, Clone Troopers and Battle Droids are being deployed to help the Crusaders against the uprising."
"As will I," Jessica said. "I will join with you once I am done."
"In that case, I say we stay," M'gann said. "We could all use some time on Shei'Ten Kar."
"Actually…" Barriss said as she stepped up. "I wanted to tell you this for a while… I'm going back."
"To the Temple already?" Ahsoka asked. She realized something. "Wait… when you said a keeper…?"
"Before we left, Master Luminara offered for me to return to the Temple to resume my training," Barriss explained. "As much fun as I've had fighting alongside you to redeem myself… I'm ready to return to the Jedi."
"Barriss…" Ahsoka said. "How much have you…?"
"A long time," Barriss said. "This was my final mission with the Young Justice," she said before looking to Serena. "And I say my vacancy can be filled with another Padawan."
Serena smiled. "I'll make you proud." She said.
"We all know you will," Barriss said before a Gunship flew over to the docking bay. "That's my ride," she said. "It's been a great few years together, both as enemies and friends… but this is where we now part ways," she said, holding her hand out to Ahsoka. "I'll keep in touch, but promise me you won't forget me."
Ahsoka smiled and shook Barriss's hand as everyone else covered their hands over them
"I promise."
"May the Force be with you." Barriss said before turning to go onto the Gunship.
"And also with you," Ahsoka bid. "My friend."
Barriss smiled at the last words just as the door to the Gunship closed. Taking off towards a Star Cruiser, everyone watched as it took off into Hyperspace back to Coruscant.
"We'll never forget you," Ahsoka said before looking around. "Hey… where's Katana?" she asked.
In the Docking Bay, everyone found Katana fast asleep.
"I say we give her ten more minutes." Robin teased.
"Everyone else rest too," Ahsoka advised. "I sense something larger at work on Shei'Ten Kar, and whatever it is… we'll all need our full strength."
