I got this idea after watching the Batman Beyond show again for the past few weeks, I decided to go for it. As you already know, Max is going to be the main character and the main hero, alongside Bruce and I've got big plans for her that a dear friend is helping me with. But don't worry, Terry will still be in the story, but I wanted to try Max as the main hero, despite the fact that there may be some stories about that I haven't found yet. I know some of you probably won't like it because there will be no Batman, since you all out there, including myself, think that he's 1 of the greatest, if not the greatest superhero of all time despite not having any powers, but I just wanted to try this out. And I'm going to be doing this one all the way until I get to the Epilogue episode, which was in my opinion, the true final end of the Batman animated series and the DCAU universe. Anyway, don't let me keep you all waiting, enjoy the 1st chapter, my dear friends and many fellow Batman fans out there.
Prologue and Rebirth part 1 and 2
In an airplane hangar just outside of Gotham City, a group of kidnappers were watching a news report about a failed attempt by Derek Powers to take over Wayne Enterprises, with the news also stating that the kidnappers had failed to release their hostage Bunny Vreeland in spite of being paid 5 million dollars in ransom.
But outside of the hanger, a guard was keeping a lookout when he heard something nearby, making him walk around while keeping his weapon on guard... before he was suddenly punched out cold by none other than Gotham's greatest protector: Batman, the Dark Knight, who was now wearing a new improved Batsuit that was black with a red Bat symbol on his chest, glowing eyes and ears above his head. But while the new suit did not have a cape like the old 1, it had red, retractable bat-like wings and jet boots, along with giving him new advantages that were compensating for his slowly deteriorating health, such as increased strength, flexibility, propulsion, agility and other abilities.
Batman then used his wings and jet boots to get to the door of the hanger before looking into the window, seeing the girl and her kidnappers, glaring at the thugs.
As the leader of the thugs put the last of the ransom money in the bag, he walked up to another thug and said. "It's all here. Take care of her."
The other thug then walked up to the bound and gagged Bunny before holding his gun on her with an evil grin, intending to kill her despite the ransom money being paid and making the girl afraid for her life... before a batarang hit the gun, disarming the thug before Batman engaged him in combat!
"Batman!" Another thug yelled before all but the leader ran to attack their greatest enemy, but were easily getting beaten by Batman with seemingly no effort at all before he tossed the last thug into the leader, who was getting the money on the plane, and knocking them both out!
Batman took a breath before turning to Bunny...but suddenly was struck by a pain in his chest, making him groan in a little pain before he walked up to the girl to free her. "Are you alright?" He asked with concern.
Bunny then tried to warn Batman but because she was gagged, it was too late, as the leader thug had hit Batman with a large wrench, sending him back before he got back up and tried to run towards the thug to attack him. But before he could do anything, Batman felt the pain in his chest again, but this time more harmful. So much so that he fell to the ground, holding his chest where his heart was, showing the symptom of a severe heart attack!
The blonde thug walked up to Batman with an evil smile. "Ever since I was a kid, big bad Batman's always been making life hard for guys like me." He said mockingly before hitting him with the wrench, making Bunny look away before the thug kicked the suffering Batman a few feet away.
Batman opened his eyes and saw something that he knew was the only way to save himself and the girl, but it was an object he'd despised ever since he was first born on that horrible night his parents were murdered by that punk in Crime Alley all those years ago. But as the thug moved for another attack, Batman knew that he didn't have a chance with the pain of the heart attack still fresh. And if he died here, the girl would still die later, and he knew that he couldn't let that happen, he just couldn't. So, in great desperation, he picked up the gun and aimed at the thug!
The blonde thug gasped and backed away in fear at seeing this, as even he would never have believed that Batman, who never had used a gun in his entire career would even think about touching one, let alone threaten to actually use it, and that terrified him. "No! Don't!" He said fearfully while dropping the wrench before running out of the hanger. But he didn't get far as the police had already showed up and surrounded him.
As the police apprehended the thugs and freed Bunny, Batman stepped out of the hanger, keeping to the shadows like he'd been doing in his early years and now ever since his friend Commissioner James Gordon had passed away. As blood was dripping from the left lower month of his mask, he took it off, revealing the aging features of a now elderly Bruce Wayne.
Bruce then lifted up his hand that still held the gun and looked at it with pure shock and disbelief, as he had almost came dangerously close to actually pulling the trigger, and all because of his deteriorating health and pure desperation and there was no doubt that even his new suit, which he'd been using ever since he first realized that the long decades of physical punishment, emotional challenges, and an ailing heart were finally taking their toll, and even the suit couldn't compensate for it any longer. And almost having to use the same weapon that killed his parents in a cowardly manner was the ultimate sin in his eyes, and as such, the final breaking point for him as he dropped the gun and quickly headed home.
Once he got to the Batcave and put the suit in the display case next to his original suit, the Robin suit that had once belonged to Tim Drake, the old Batgirl suit, and the Nightwing suit that only Dick Grayson wore before he retired, Bruce looked at it a a few seconds and looked beside it to reveal a special suit that he'd designed exactly like his new one, but with extra abilities that would have belonged to one of his old partners had she not retired and as such, never weared it even once.
But Bruce pushed those thoughts out of his mind, as it was best not to think what could have been anymore. After going up the stairs that led out of the cave, he touched the switches for the lights and gave his vow. "Never again." Before shutting off the lights to the Batcave, seemingly putting an end to Gotham City's Dark Knight forever.
20 years later
Gotham city had changed so much since the retirement of Batman and no one had seen even a shred of the Dark Knight for the past 2 decades. The city had been renamed Neo Gotham and technology had been improving with every year to the point where even flying cars had been made. But that wasn't the only thing in Gotham that had changed: Bruce Wayne had become a recluse for some time and his family's company had been merged with the corrupt Derek Powers, who had merged with Wayne Enterprises to make Wayne-Powers and had mostly taken over as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Currently, a high school female student by the name of Maxine Gibson was talking the train to school today, as her oldest sister had been sent on an 'errand' by her mother, who had long divorced from their father and was mostly away because of her career, leaving Max and her sister to fend for themselves. But while the divorce and separation of her parents had been tough on Max, she'd become stronger because of it, always getting straight As in school and was a master at computers and all kinds of technology and many school subjects. But she'd also decided at the very young age of 8 to take martial arts classes, studying many different forms and techniques that turned out to be extremely helpful, even taking advanced parkour and freerunning classes and working out in after school, gaining some muscle and perhaps beyond the peak of human condition. And because of all that, she'd become a night owl while also finding ways to stay awake during the day while finding time to rest whenever she could and even doing her work ahead of time so she wouldn't fall behind in any of her classes, showing that she had a very above average intelligent and while her hair was originally black like the rest of her family, she'd dyed it pink as a way of standing out.
Beside her was her best friend Terry McGinnis, whose parents had divorced some time ago as well and made him stronger as well, as he'd managed to find a good after school job that paid good money and helped pay the bills when his Mom couldn't quite make them to provide for herself and his little brother Matthew, which made his parents happy even though they were divorced, they still retained a good relationship. Terry had gotten in his share of trouble now and then but had stopped once he realized that he was going down a long dark road, avoiding Juvenile Hall and getting his life together and had been living a good life ever since.
But Max had gotten herself into trouble sometimes as well, especially when seeing gang violence almost everywhere in the city, 1 gang in particular that she had developed a severe hatred for that no one could explain, even Max herself. It had even gotten to the point where when she saw them trying to mess with innocent people, she'd attack them and, in a few times, almost kill some of them if it weren't for Terry stopping her from doing something she'd regret, even though he didn't like the gang himself. It became so bad that she'd developed a rep for herself at school as the Dark Knight of Hamilton Hill High. It also reached out to the gangs all over Gotham as well.
When the train was almost to its destination, a teenage kid dressed as a clown came in and sprayed green paint on the TV screen that was showing news about how Derek Powers had gained more money and power before the jokerz gang member turned around and bowed in front of the crowd.
"Thank you. Thank you." He said before eyeing the crowd, seeing an African American woman as a target for cash before he went over and sat down. "I saw you smile. Yes I did, yes I did." He said before holding his hand out.
"What do you want?" The woman asked with fear, making Max growl at this display of injustice with a look of pure hatred on her face.
But it didn't go unnoticed by Terry, who put a hand on Max to stop her from doing anything stupid. "Max, don't."
But as Max saw the Jokerz gang member take the woman's purse as 'payment for his 'joke', Max snatched her shoulder back and went up to the gang member, grabbing him by the arm and twisting it, making him yell in pain before Max threw him into the TV screen, cracking it. "Unless you want to spend the next few weeks eating through a straw in Gotham General, get lost now!"
"Whoa, strong girl for someone of your…size?" The gang member said before noticing the one who attacked him was the one who gained a rep from beating up the Jokerz in almost the same way Batman beat up the one who inspired the creation of the Jokerz gangs in the first place: the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker. "Oh man, not you again. I ain't gonna get beaten up again." He said with fear before quickly running out as soon as the train stopped.
"Damn Jokerz." Max said with disgust.
"Yeah well you're lucky that it didn't escalate this time." Terry said to his friend as they walked off the train. "Max, this has to stop. Every time a Jokerz gang gets near you, you go all nuts and start pounding them. Don't you remember what happened last time? I almost couldn't stop you when you were choking that last gang member."
"I know, Terry, but he was so close to hurting that family, and I couldn't let that happen, I just couldn't." Max said as she remembered that day.
"Look, Max, I know you meant well and I know you hate the Jokerz with kind of a vengeance for reasons that me or anybody else don't know, but we only got lucky that it wasn't in public that you beat them up. And you nearly went too far if I hadn't stopped you. The next time I might not be there." Terry said with a sigh. "Look. Just for once...try to think before you start fights before you do go too far, even if the Jokerz deserve some of it. And it's not just me either, it's every one of our friends at school... and your family. You're a very bright girl with straight As in every class and despite your night owl status, you've somehow managed to complete your work despite barely sleeping anymore. You got a bright future ahead of you, and we don't wanna see you end up someplace bad or worse."
"I know, Terry. I know." Max said with a bit of force before she calmed down a bit. "Look, let's just get to school, all right? Maybe my Martial arts class will help out. You just make sure you don't go too far with that prick Nelson Nash."
"Hey I've learned to control my temper, it's you we're all worried about going too far. Even Nelson's gotten a bit worried, even though he doesn't show it like we do, and that's saying something." Terry said with a smirk.
"Oh that bullying prick's worried about me now? How touching." Max said sarcastically.
Later at the high school
Students Dana Tan, who was dating Terry and Chelsea Cunningham, her best friend, had already gotten out of swimming class and were just walking out the pool building. "If the Coach made us do one more lap, I'd be growing gills." Dana said before they walked into the wrestling area, hearing some boys cheer on Nelson Nash. "Sounds like Nelson's got his monkeys rooting for him again." She said before they went inside. "Who's the victim this time? She asked before seeing Terry.
"My money's on Nelson." Chelsea said.
"Wouldn't be so sure, Chels." Dana said with a smile, knowing that Terry could hold his own in a fight.
After Nelson pinned Terry down, he spoke to his rival, noticing he wasn't focused a bit. "Geez, what's wrong McGinnis? You're not focused, even I can see that."
"Just worried about Max. Encountered another Joker this morning with her and it looks like she decided to take it easy this time." Terry told him honestly.
"Man, I'm really kinda worried about her. I mean I know that I don't show it like you guys do, but it's there. She's probably got the most straight As in school I've ever seen and she's got an above average IQ that nobody else in the school has. But even I get the feeling that one day, she'll take things a bit too far, especially since everyone in school knows that she hates the Jokerz with some kinda vengeance or something."
"I know. That's why I'm gonna...go check on her after this match is over." Terry said as he got free and pinned Nash before the buzzer went off.
"All right, you 2, good match for now. We'll start again tomorrow." The coach said, ending the class.
After Terry got changed into his regular clothes, Dana and Chelsea walked out of the area and headed to Max's martial arts class, which was happening right now with Max going up against 4 of the other students, easily beating them all without any effort or even getting hit once until she was the only one standing. She'd even taken weapons classes as a good addition to her martial arts, with katana swords being her favorite and she was as good an expert with swords as she was in hand to hand combat.
When they were all down, Max bowed in respect, making Terry and the other girls smile before she went to the changing room and got back into her regular clothes. When she came back, her teacher gave her an approved nod. "Great work, Ms Gibson, again. Remember that you have sword studying next week. I look forward to seeing how much you've practiced."
"I'll be there. See you next week." Max said with a smile before joining her friends, with Terry going separate from the girls to head home after giving Dana a short kiss.
Later
Max had arrived home, having been granted a ride along with Dana. When she stepped out of the car, Max thanked her friend. "Thanks for the ride, Dana."
"No problem, Max." Dana said with a smile. But just before Max closed the car door, Dana asked her pink haired African american friend. "Hey, Max?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm going out with Terry at the club tonight. Wanna come?"
Max shrugged while giving a smile. "Sure. I don't have anything else to do tonight since I've gotten all my work done for the week. But... you're not worried that I'll be in the way?"
Dana giggled. "Of course not. Except if you try to steal him from me." Dana said suddenly with a serious tone, surprising Max who raised an eyebrow.
Seeing her surprised look, Dana laughed. "Hahahaha! I'm kidding! I know you're not into Terry or any other guys. And who knows, maybe you'll find some nice girl to hang out with tonight."
Max chuckled, as she was looking forward to having some fun with a nice girl again, since hadn't had that kind of fun in mouths due to the girls she dated always leaving her for some reason or another. "Maybe. Okay, see you tonight. And by the way, I already made some reservations for you and Terry during my lunch break...and already paid the tab."
"What? How'd you-" Dana asked with surprise before Max answered with a smirk.
"You both go to the exact same place and you order the same thing every time."
Dana then smirked. "Even when we have fun, you have to be 2 steps ahead of everybody? Really?"
"I've always believed that it's best to be prepared for everything... always." Max said with her arms crossed.
Dana chuckled at her always prepared friend and waved before driving off and Max walked over to her doorstep. But when she looked at her right, she spotted a very familiar yellow car, making her frown. "Great. Mom's back." But then she got confused while opening the front door. "But she's not supposed to be back till next month."
When she walked inside her house, Max was greeted by her two year older sister, Juliet. "Hi sis. How was school?"
Max shrugged. "It was okay. Is mom here?"
Juliet nodded. "Yeah, she is, but went out just a moment ago to pick something up."
While Max put down her bag, she asked. "Why do you think mom is back home early? Lose her job or something?"
"I don't know, Maxine. If it was because she lost her job she wouldn't be so happy."
This didn't make any sense to both sisters and they wondered what their mother had in store. While waiting for their mother to come home, Max went to her room to check for an outfit to wear for tonight, while Juliet prepared dinner. After an hour, their mother finally returned... with someone else.
Juliet turned herself from the stove. "Hey mom, I..." But she was then surprised to see the person who accompanied her mother. It was their father Simon. "D-dad?"
Max then came out of her room, not noticing her parents while telling her sister. "Hey, I'll be going out tonight with Dana and Terry, so..." But then she suddenly saw her father too, standing next to her mother Michelle.
Simon gave a friendly smile as he hadn't seen both his daughters in years. "Hey honey. My God... you've grown since I last saw you."
Max was completely surprised, even though she always taught herself to expect the unexpected in every situation. "Dad?! Wha... what are you doing here?!" She asked with surprise as Michelle smiled while holding her ex-husband's hand.
During dinner, Michelle explained everything in detail. "So, while I was at the conference in Metropolis, there your father suddenly stood before me. First I didn't know what to say as it was so long since we… separated. But while we've spent over a week together..."
That's when Simon started to tell them everything. "I was on the road for a while, seeing a lot of places. And after being through some therapy, I realized what kind of an idiot I was back then. So, I've been taking a new job and got things back on track. When I heard your mother was in Metropolis, I was first doubting she wanted to ever see me again... but I had to try. So... during that week we... settled some things between us."
"Like what?" Juliet asked curiously, while Max paid barely any attention.
Michelle then brightly smiled while embracing her ex. "Your father and I are back together!"
Both Juliet and Max's eyes went wide at hearing this. "You... what?" Juliet asked as she had nearly lost words.
"I too realized that I still loved your father, and when I saw he had truly changed, we wanted to start all over again! So, I'm gonna be working closer to home and your father is moving back in with us! Surprise!" Michelle said overjoyed.
Max started to frown, as her mother had so easily forgotten how badly their dad had treated them for being a criminal and was thrown in prison for a few years, only to disappear and was never even heard from after that. And their mother who was away most of the time for work and Max could still see the day that everything went downhill before her eyes.
Juliet didn't know what to say at first, but slowly smiled with excitement. "That... that's great!"
Simon nodded. "It is, sweetheart."
Michelle planted a kiss on Simon's cheek. "Now we can all be a family and be happy again."
Max, who was now angry, finally snapped and slammed her fists on the table "Happy!? You got a lot of nerve to say that!"
The whole family was shocked by this sudden reaction from Maxine before Michelle frowned at what her daughter said. "How dare you say that, young lady!"
Simon tried to calm Michelle. "Easy, Michelle." Then Simon looked at Max. "Maxine, I know this is kinda surprising all of a sudden, but this is our chance to be together again."
Max was not buying that and raised herself from her chair. "Then where the hell were you when we really needed you, Dad?! You didn't even have the courage to pay us one visit! NOT EVEN SENDING A POSTCARD FOR CHRIST SAKE!"
Juliet tried to calm her younger sister. "Max, don't."
Michelle had enough of these insults from her youngest daughter. "That's enough, Maxine! Can you at least be happy for us?!"
"No! How can you so easily forget what Dad did to us! And abandon me and my sister to take care of ourselves while you were away only for your job!?" Before Michelle was gonna open her mouth, Max said immediately. "Don't even say that you sending us money will make up for all those years that you were only what, here for a few days in how many months!? You were never there for us, me and Juliet had to take care of ourselves! You didn't give a damn about us!"
Those words came hard to Michelle, but were all true, as she was never there for her daughter's when they most needed her.
Juliet tried to take Max away. "Max, please, can I talk to you in your room?"
"NO!" Max pushed Juliet away from her. "How can you even support this!? Dad was gone! Mom was gone! It was only the two of us, AND NOW YOU'RE JUST FORGETTING IT ALL! You're nothing but a fucking hypocrite!" Before turning around and putting on her black duster spandex trench coat that went down to her ankles, which she had bought a few years ago and only wore when she was out of school due to its policy of no wearing trench coats inside of the school. And as a result, she could only wear it at the end of the school day but kept it in her locker when she was inside the building. Without looking at any of her family, Max stormed out. "I'm outta here!"
Juliet tried to go after Max, but she got into a taxi and drove off. "Max! MAXINE!" Juliet called out as she watched her go, while looking sadly and slowly looked down. It was true what she said, but Juliet still believed that things can turn out better…if Max just had some time to herself to think. She assumed that she was going to go to Terry's father's house after leaving the club and she would go there with her parents to get her and try to talk things out.
Later on at night at the club
As Terry, Dana and Chelsea were standing outside the club to hang out, with Dana telling them that Max had already gotten them reservations and paid the check ahead of time, much to their amusement as she was always 2 steps ahead of everyone, Max had walked up to them. "Hey, guys."
"Hey, Max, how's things with your sister going?" Terry asked with a smile.
"Drop it, McGinnis! I don't want to talk about it!" Max warned with anger, making Terry step back.
"Damn, Max, what's gotten into you?" Chelsea asked with concern for her friend.
But that was when a red Ferrari speeded up and parked before Nelson Nash stepped out, wearing shades and making Max growl a bit, as she wasn't in the best of moods for him after what happened with her family.
As Max growled, Terry and Dana grabbed her arms. "Whoa, Max. I don't know what's gotten into you right now, but with the mood you're in, you're liable to do something that you may regret." Terry said out of concern for his friend.
But that was when a gang of Jokerz on motorcycles came speeding up and causing trouble for everyone, like messing with Nelson and his car and even Dana, infuriating Max, who pulled the leader off his cycle while giving Dana to Terry before she threw him into Nelson's car!
"Hey, it's the Dark Knight of Hamilton Hill High! Get her!" The female Jokerz gang member said a bit evilly.
"You bastards wanna fight me, then let's go!" Max growled in a dark and serious tone of voice that everyone she knew knew all too well!
Max then jumped high to avoid the next motorcycle while knocking off its rider with a jumping spin kick while using their weapons against them, wrapping her wrist around a spinning chain and spinning the large Joker into another one before using a nearby pole to spin around and kick the others off, easily beating them with her skills, surprising everyone who was watching.
"Man, I knew Gibson was some kinda freak job, but how does she do all that?!" Nash asked with a very surprised face as Terry helped his friend out, presumably to keep her from going too far. "Man, I know McGinnis is her friend and all, but he can't stop her forever and you guys know that."
After kicking a Joker away, Max quickly got on one of the motorcycles and began speeding away, getting the attention of the leader. "Guys, forgot him, after the Dark Knight of Hamilton Hill High!" He ordered while pointing towards Max before they all chased after her after the ones who were fighting Terry got away from him.
As Max put the helmet that was in her hand on, the Jokerz chased after her. Luckily for the pink haired girl, Terry had taught her how to ride a motorcycle, along with his personal cycle tricks, so she was easily getting away from the Jokerz by going off roads and ramping to a lower level, losing 3 of the Jokerz in the process before heading to Gotham harbor with the rest of the gang on her tail.
The road Max had taken had brought her out of the city as she traced a very familiar road well known to Gotham City's past. As she continued to speed, her headlight shined on what she saw was an old man, making her quickly stop her cycle before the rest of the Jokerz finally caught up to Max.
"Looks like she decided to finally stop running and fight, guys!" The leader said with a smirk.
"Let's put a smile on her face." The large Joker said while getting out a switchblade.
As the Jokerz gang advanced on Max, an old voice spoke out as he came out of the shadows, revealing himself to be Bruce Wayne himself, now in his 80s and having to walk using a cane. "Leave her alone. And get off my property. You're trespassing."
"Don't get into this, old man, these clowns are mine!" Max said with a glare, wanting to be the one to deal with this gang.
But the leader, who was dressed almost exactly like the original Joker, walked up to the old man, having no idea who he was. "Who do you think you're talking to, old man?" He asked before grabbing him by the shirt. "We're the Jokerz."
But Bruce simply smiled and said with a bit of amusement. "Sure you are.
When the Jokerz leader tried to punch Bruce, he easily dodged and hit him with his cane, sending him to the ground while knocking him out. The other Jokerz looked at their leader and then at Bruce, who Max had stood beside to help fight. It seemed that despite his very old age, Bruce could still fight, as he was easily avoiding their attacks while getting clear hits with his cane while also noticing that Max was attacking the gang with great martial arts skills in a very familiar aggressive manner before he hit the recovered leader with his cane without even looking, sending him to the ground again.
The leader, knowing that he and his gang were completely outmatched, told the others as he got on his bike. "Come on!" Before they all speeded away.
Max looked at the old man, very impressed with how he could fight despite his age. "Damn, you're really something. I've never seen anyone that-" she said before noticing that he was struggling to stay on his feet while dropping his cane, as the fight had been too strenuous for him, making Max quickly help him. "Are you alright?"
"M-my medicine...at the house." Bruce said with a groan as he got out a remote control and opened the gate. As Max helped Bruce get his cane before helping him get to the house to get his meds, a black Great Dane ran up and barked aggressively at Max, making her step back before Bruce spoke. "Down, Ace, she's okay." He said, making the dog sit down as Max continued to walk with Bruce.
"Nice dog." Max said with a smirk.
"Not really." Bruce told her.
A bit later
Max had gotten Bruce into the house and into a chair before going to get his pills, which she quickly returned with, along with a glass of water. "Here, old timer. The pills we're right where you said." She said as Bruce quickly took the pills before handing Max the glass.
While Max wanted to leave, she couldn't just leave the man who helped her alone as he might need her help to get to bed soon, so she sat down and put the almost empty glass down. "I know that I should just leave, but you did help me. So I guess I'll stay with you and help you into your bed. Least I can do, Mr.-" She said before noticing that he was already asleep, presumably from the pills. "All right. You just rest there and I'll help you after you wake up. I'm not in a hurry to get home and I'm a night person anyway."
After a few minutes, Max looked at the old clock and saw something move in it. Curious, she looked inside and saw a bat, seemingly trying to get out. "A bat? She asked before opening the door and trying to let the night creature out. "I'll get you outta there, little guy. Just don't bite me."
As she tried to get the bat out, the clock suddenly... opened as the nocturnal creature flew inside it, surprising Max. "What the hell?" She asked before slowly going down the steps and seeing switches before turning them on, lighting up the place before she saw very shocking and surprising objects: a strange car, a strange plane and a very advanced-looking computer. "Holy shit." She cursed with great surprise before going down the steps, making another light turn on to reveal very surprising suits that had bat features on them, starting with one that looked like the 3rd female looking suit but more technically advanced, with a yellow bat symbol on its chest before moving left and seeing... the suit of the original Batman that she'd heard and read legends about in her childhood, greatly shocking her as she now knew that she was standing in the legendary Batcave. "Damn. No wonder he could fight despite his age."
But as she reached out to touch the suit of the hero she idolized even in her childhood, she was suddenly struck from behind before she fell to the ground, seeing the old man, now revealed to be Bruce Wayne, Aka the legendary Batman once upon a time, standing over her with an angry look. "Get out!" He said angrily before she got up and was quickly kicked out of the manor.
When she was pushed out of the gate by Ace, she looked back. "Back off, mutt, I'm going!" She said fiercely before looking at the house. "It's not like I was trying to do something I'd regret." She said before the 1 light in the house turned off. "Argh, fucking old freak!" Before walking away from the gate.
Later
Max, not wanting to go home just yet, decided to check on Terry to see if he was okay after what happened with the gang she despised so much but didn't even know why. But as she got to Terry's father's house, she saw police vehicles and some cops questioning some people, causing a very horrible feeling in her heart before she ran into the apartment building. But when she got inside, she saw the words HA HA in yellow and green spray paint. "Terry! Mr. McGinnis? She called out before getting that horrible feeling again. "Oh my God." She said before running up the stairs, seeing that Terry was okay and that his mom was here also.
When Terry and his mother, Mary saw Max, they were very relieved to see that she was alright. "Max!" Terry said with great relief while tears were flowing down his and his mother's eyes as she both rushed to hug her.
"Oh Maxine, dear we're so glad you're okay." Mary cried before Max backed up.
"Terry, Mrs, McGinnis, what happened here?" Max asked with great concern.
"A robbery. The police say it's the Jokerz." Mary answered. "They surprised Terry's father."
"But... that's...not all, Max. He wasn't the only one who was here when it happened. There were...3 more." Terry said with sadness, knowing that Max deserved to know this horrible news.
"What...what do you mean he wasn't the...only one…here?" Max asked before realizing who must have been here with Mr. McGinnis... because of her, making the horrible feeling she already had even stronger as tears were forming in her eyes. "Oh no. No, no, no! It... can't be! It... can't be them!" Max said, her voice beginning to break before she ran into the house, with Mary and Terry embracing tightly as they began to cry as Max ran past the crime scene cops who tried to stop her. But what she saw in the house would haunt her for the rest of her life: her father, her mother and even... her sister were laying on the floor beside Mr. McGinnis, all dead, having been beaten and bloodied to death! This was what finally broke Max as she yelled/cried out at the top of her lungs. "MOM! DAD! JULIET! NOOOOOOOOO!"
Several days later
"McGinnis leaves behind 2 sons, seen here with his former wife Mary while almost the entire Gibson family leave behind their youngest daughter and sister Maxine. Among the mourners was Mr. McGinnis' and the would-be employer of the Gibson parents Derek Powers." A female reporter said on the TV while showing the McGinnis family with Max at their side at the funeral that was held earlier today.
That was when Derek Powers himself appeared on the screen. "I pledge to use whatever influence I have to see to it that these creatures pay for their cowardly and horrible act."
That was when Mary turned off the TV and looked at her sons, who were still sad. "It was about dad and Max's family."
"Yeah. It was, Matt." Terry said as he hugged his little brother, who hugged back.
"Terry, why don't you help Matt get ready for bed, okay? I'll check on Max." Mary asked with love as she kissed her sons on the cheeks.
"Okay, Mom. I'll come see you both after Matt's asleep." Terry said with sadness while looking at the room Max had been in all day before patting his brother gently. "Come on, Matt. Bedtime." He said gently as he took Matt's hand and led him to his bedroom to prepare him for bed.
In another room
Max was sitting alone in the dark, having been crying silently ever since she closed the door and sat on the bed. She didn't know how long she'd been crying for, but it didn't matter to her, as long as she could be left alone. The only thoughts that had been on her mind was her family and the last time she saw them, the things she said to her parents and sister would forever haunt her, for it was the last words she had ever said to them and she could never take any of it back or even forgive herself. But she couldn't help but wonder why Mr. McGinnis or her parents and sister would have opened the door if it really was the Jokerz who had done it.
That was when Mary had opened the door and walked in slowly before placing her hand gently on her shoulder. "Your friends Dana said Chelsea called and left their numbers for you, dear. Have you eaten anything yet?" She asked, getting no response from the pink haired girl. "Max, you haven't said anything all day."
When she got no response, Mary turned to leave the room when Max finally spoke. "Why would either of them open the door, Mrs McGinnis? They were Jokerz. They wouldn't have opened the door, Mr McGinnis or my parents and sister would have looked first. It's obvious that they were at his house because they thought I'd be there with Terry, but how did they trace me to them or your husband?"
"Honey, we don't even know it's the same gang. And whatever your parents and sister were doing there, they must have had a very good reason. You've gotta stop-" Mary said before Max yelled, cutting her off.
"I am to blame, McGinnis! This is all because of me! I should have stayed home with them! If I hadn't left like that, they never would have gone to Terry's dad's and he'd...still be here, too! I...got them all killed!" Max cried out, rightfully blaming herself for her family's deaths and Mr McGinnis' as well.
"No, Max. It's not-"
"It is!" Max cried out before sadly and regretfully explaining. "My parents were getting back together, Ms McGinnis. They told me that they were moving back and we were going to be a family again and while my sister was happy about it...I yelled at all of them. I was so blinded by what my parents did when I was little that...I couldn't see what was right in front of me. The things I said to them. And what's even worse is that because of me, Terry and Matt lost their dad... and you lost the father of your children, and it's all because of me." She said while breaking down as Mary hugged Max to comfort her. "I'll...never forgive myself."
A few hours later
Max and Terry were moving her stuff into the vacant apartment 6 floors down from theirs. It had taken a lot of convincing from Mary and Terry both but the pink haired girl had finally decided that she would now be living closer to them since it was what her parents and sister would have wanted. While Max had refused at first, she finally agreed to move into their apartment building under the condition that she had her own apartment, as she'd wanted to still fend for herself after getting the money for her parents life insurance policy that they'd left for their daughters in case anything happened to them. The McGinnis family agreed to that, as they wouldn't need to worry about providing for her, for they would already have a tough time supporting themselves with Warren McGinnis gone and she wouldn't need to burden them by being an extra mouth to feed. Mary even told Matt not to bother Max and to make her feel at home while living close to them, which he was very happy with as he'd liked Max.
After getting the rest of her stuff moved into her new apartment, she returned to Terry's father's apartment building to see if she'd left anything behind while Terry and Mary were helping her finish the furniture arranging and getting her all set up to live in her new home.
After looking around, she spotted something she'd recognize anywhere: Juliet's prized gold bracelet, given to her by their mother, broken. After reaching down to grab it, she saw a wooden plank, covering a small hole. Curious, Max moved the plank and reached into the hole, pulling out a small disk, eyeing it with a raised eyebrow before going back to her apartment with the bracelet.
Once she put the disk into her computer, she saw something that made her eyes go wide, as she knew that it wasn't a Jokerz gang that killed her family or Mr McGinnis. After getting her trench coat and leaving her apartment, with the landlord unknown to her making a call to someone, Max got a ride from Dana, as she'd sold her sister's car to make a bit of extra money to support herself, she headed to the house of the one person she thought could help.
After Dana drove away, with assurance that she'd be alright, Max walked up to the gate and spoke into the intercom as she pulled out the disk. "Come on, I know you're in there! Listen to me! Something stinks in your company! I think it cost my family and my friend's father their lives! The answer's on this! I'd take it to the cops but you know Powers has them on his payroll! How about you take a look?" But still, she got no answer. Yeah, I should've known you wouldn't care. You're no Batman, you fucked up old man!" She said before turning away to leave before the gates opened a few seconds later. As Max walked through the gate, Ace growled at her. "Back off, dog, it's me." She said a bit hoarsely but firmly as she and the dog walked to the house, with Bruce watching from his window.
A bit later in the Batcave
After Max had given the disk to Bruce, he took it to the Batcave and put it into the Batcomputer, quickly seeing that the contents of the disk was data for a new deadly DNA mutation/Nerve Gas that attacked healthy cells before killing them once the virus fully bonded with the cells.
"It's worse than I thought." Bruce told Max while taking out the disk. "It's some kind of new DNA mutation. Powers is making nerve gas." He said before looking at the disk and stated with disgust and hatred for his company being used to make a deadly virus. "He's using my company to make Nerve Gas." Before looking behind him and seeing that Max was looking at the special suit he designed. "Stay away from that."
"Synaptic controls, muscular amplification, flight capability and in certain situations, increased strength by 20 times. This suit may be old but it looks like it was never even worn by the old Batgirl, wasn't it?" Max asked with an impressed tone. "She must have been so used to her old one that she never even bothered to wear or she decided to retire by the time you completed this suit." She said before looking at the Batman suit beside it. "But I'm guessing that this was yours, wasn't it? Same abilities as this one but less increased strength, right? You must have built this one to compensate for your age because it was finally catching up with you."
"I told you not to touch it." Bruce told her while walking up to her with the disk.
"Hey, you built that company, and now that corrupt asshole is making nerve gas there. You have to do something about it. You're Batman." Max said urgently, knowing that Powers would more than likely sell the gas to a local or international high paying criminal for money and his already expanding power if he wasn't stopped now.
"I was Batman." He corrected before handing her the disk. "Give this to commissioner Barbra Gordon. Tell her I sent you."
"The cops?! Powers has them on his payroll. They'll never be able to-" Max tried to say before Bruce cut her off.
"Not Barbra Gordon. Just do it!" He said with force with a serious look.
Max sighed. "Something happened to you, I know it. And it wasn't just that you got old." She said softly before leaving as Bruce closed the display case for the never worn Batgirl suit.
Later in the streets
Max was heading to the police station to give the disk to Barbra Gordon. But while she was walking, she began to think. If Bruce Wayne had been Batman in his day, there must have been someone who he could absolutely trust unconditionally if they had earned his trust enough. And she'd heard about the friendship the original Batman had with commissioner James Gordon, more than likely Barbara's father, who was just as old as she was in his time. And if Barbra Gordon was anything like her father, she'd had a strong sense of justice and may have been a great admirer of Batman.
"Maybe enough to... become... Batgirl." Max whispered to herself, deducing that Barbra Gordon must have been Batgirl in her time. But she needed to be absolutely sure despite already knowing deep down that she was right.
But before she could think any further, a car suddenly sped up in front of her before she backed up and saw a big muscular man with a scar under his blind left eye indicating that he had physical confrontations before. "Whoops." He said with an evil smile that Max could see at a glance.
When Max looked at the car, the window opened to reveal the one who was making the Nerve Gas: Derek Powers. "Hello, Maxine. Ever had a ride in a limo?"
"My parents always told me never to take rides from strangers." Max said while holding a glare back.
"Who's a stranger? And besides, your parents aren't around anymore." Powers said without even a flicker of remorse in his voice before the door opened. "Be the smart girl I know you are, Maxine. Get in."
Max knew she had to escape somehow and there was no logical way to do that if she didn't have a distraction. So, reaching into her coat pocket, she took out the disk. "Is this what you're looking for?"
"Of course, Maxine. Now make it easier on yourself and give it to me." Power said with warning in his voice while holding his hand out.
"Catch!" Max said before throwing the disk into the air, distracting them long enough for Max to land an elbow to the big man's chest with surprising strength for someone her size and allowing her to run and use her parkour skills to get away from Powers and his men, even has his guards were trying to shoot her.
"Enough!" Powers ordered, making them stop as he held the disk. "Well, at least I've got the evidence." He said before they all walked into the limo and left the area. And as Max watched from below, she then knew that she would have to stop Powers herself...but not without some help.
Later at Wayne Manor
Bruce was eating soup while watching the news about the corrupt Kaznian Minister of Commerce Vilmos Egans arriving in Gotham and being greeted by Powers, angering Bruce because he knew that anything involving Powers was anything but good.
Suddenly, he heard Ace barking loudly, making him go to the window to see his dog tied up to the gate before he opened his window and threw a Batarang at the rope he was tied up with, cutting it and allowing the Great Dane to run into the house as Bruce asked his companion. "What is it? What's the matter, boy?" Before they went inside the Batcave and saw that the special Batgirl suit had been stolen, making Bruce look angry as he immediately knew who would have done it.
Meanwhile
Max, who had taken the Batgirl suit and had put it on, was flying through the city, using the suit's black and yellow wings to glide but it was a bit harder than she thought before she quickly got the hang of it and fired up the jet boots to fly to the Wayne-Powers building and safely land near the window to see Derek Powers taking with Egans about the Nerve Gas, hearing them by using the sensitive touch microphone on the index and middle fingers of the suit, which could be used to eavesdrop from behind any surface.
"It's the ultimate in germ warfare. A viral mutagen so quick-acting and completely invasive, no living cell can resist it." Powers explained while showing evidence of what the nerve gas could do to any living cell. "It all began with experiments on plants, then livestock." He said while showing a video of a plant getting killed by the gas and then a baby cow after that, horrifying the corrupt Minister of Commerce a bit.
And humans? You've tested it on them, too?" He asked.
"The laws about that aren't as liberal as they are in your country, but we did have a little accident. 1 of my employees, a terrible thing, there was a gas leak in his lab." Power said without remorse as he showed Egans photos of what happened to his exposed employee and what the Nerve Gas did to him.
"There is no cure?"
"Extreme heat or radiation. But at this stage, it's obviously not an option." Powers answered while showing him the last picture. "Dust to dust. Imagine what a real dose of this gas could do to those 6 armored divisions your neighbors keep on your doorstep: gone in a matter of hours." He said with an evil grin as he burned the pictures to prove his point.
The corrupt Minister of Commerce grinned evilly before standing up and asked. "Delivery. It's in progress?"
"My men are loading the canisters as we speak. They leave tonight on hover transport. My assistant Mr. Fixx will personally supervise the shipment." Powers answered, getting a nod from the one eyed man.
"Excellent. Goodbye, Mr. Powers. I will see you again soon...I hope." Egans said before leaving the office to head to the airport.
"Any word on the girl?" Powers asked Fixx, referring to Max.
"Not yet, but they're looking." Fixx answered.
"And McGinnis' family?"
"The oldest son wasn't there when the girl found the disk and she has her own apartment 6 floors up from theirs, and considering that Terrace and Gibson are close friends, I doubt after the death of his old man, she'd want to endanger him, the mother or the youngest boy."
"Good. As long as they don't know anything, the rest of the McGinnis family can still draw breath. But I don't need to remind you how important this deal is to Wayne-Powers. It's going to open up the entire Eastern block for us, so I don't need it spoiled by a pink haired female brat." He told his evil assistant, deciding to spare Terry, Matt and their mother as long as they didn't know anything but wanting Max out of the picture.
"I took care of her parents and sister, didn't I? Quite a shame they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, most likely because of Maxine." Fixx said with a smile, revealing that he was the one who killed Max's parents and sister.
Max heard everything and grit her teeth in anger under her mask, now knowing that it was Fixx who killed her family and not the Jokerz, more than likely ordered by Powers due to not wanting any witnesses and it made her desire for revenge and justice even stronger.
Suddenly, a gun was pointing at her. "A little early for Halloween."
Max looked and saw some guards pointing their weapons at her. "Never was much for holidays, but it's just in time for Fall." Max said before jumping off the building and using her wings to glide down to the lower level and run somewhere to hide from the guards and find the shipment of Nerve Gas before it could leave Gotham City.
"Hit the alarm!" The guard told the control room before the intruder alarm went off.
Meanwhile with Powers and Fixx.
They were going to the hover pads when Powers got a call. "This is Powers. What's going on?" He asked before getting a bit surprised at the answer. "Batgirl?"
"Or some girl dressed like her. We're cutting her off. Shouldn't be a problem."
That made Powers put the phone away before he laughed. "Hahahaha. Batgirl."
Meanwhile with Max
The pink haired girl had found a place to lay low for now until she heard someone calling her name. "Gibson."
This surprised Max before she realized who it was and how he could be talking to her. "Mr. Wayne. I'm guessing there's a radio receiver in my cowl, right?"
"Yes. Now listen to me, Gibson: I want that suit back, and I want it now."
"I'm afraid I can't do that, old man. I've got a shipment of Nerve Gas to stop." Max said defiantly
"That suit is not yours! You had no right!"
"Somebody had to do something, Wayne, and the old Batgirl was obviously long retired long before you were. And you sure as hell weren't about to do anything!" Max said quietly as the guards were on her.
"I'm warning you." Bruce said threateningly.
"There!" A guard said while pointing to Max before she quickly began beating them up very easily with her skills, attacking one before moving to the other before he could attack while also hitting them with their own weapons before she jumped back.
"Damn. This suit's even better than I thought it would be." Max said with an impressed smirk.
"This is your last chance. Better take it." Bruce warned.
"No thanks, old man. I'm stopping that shipment and you can't stop me!" Max said with defiance, determined to bring the killers of her family and Terry's father to justice.
Meanwhile with Bruce
"Oh I can't, huh?" The old man asked with a disagreeing smile before he opened a switch with a red button inside before pushing it.
Back with Max
She was about to attack the guards again when she suddenly felt paralyzed in the suit, but she knew what it was that caused it. "Let me guess, old man: a failsafe device that paralysis the suit in case the wrong person gets into it?"
"Lucky guess." Bruce said while confirming that it was a failsafe device.
When the guards were attacking the helpless Max, getting a lot of kicks on her, the leader guard held his gun on her, making her worried. "Wayne, they're gonna kill me."
Despite the fact that Max had stolen from him, he couldn't just let her die as it was against his better nature, so reluctantly, he deactivated the kill switch, allowing Max to move again.
"About time." She said before she shot a wrist Batarang at the guard's gun, disarming him before she kicked the other guards away with a spinning kick and knocking out the other guards before more came in and started shooting at her, making her jump on the crates ahead to hide while thinking of her next move.
But that was when Bruce spoke to her again. "Gibson, I gave you a break. Now bring me that suit back."
"Love to, old man, but I got these guards on my ass." Max informed the old Batman.
"There's a broom closet on the north wall. Can you get to it?"
Max looked and saw the open door. "Yes." She answered before running into the closet and shutting the door. "What now?"
"The far wall. Put your hands against it and press hard." Bruce told her.
Max went to the wall and pressed hard against it before it spinned around, revealing that it was a secret passage to the generator room. "Cool."
"I built the place, remember?"
"Then you know where they're loading a hover transport, don't you?" Max asked, knowing that since Bruce had built the place, he'd know where the hover pads were.
"Forget it. You're coming back here."
"That corrupt evil bastard is shipping out the virus tonight. It's gotta be stopped now or hundreds of not thousands will die." Max told him.
"I'll call Barbra Gordon and let her handle it." Bruce said, trying to assure the teenage girl.
"No! She'll never get here in time, old man! It has to be me! I can stop them!" Max said stubbornly.
"I'll shut down the suit again. And this time, it'll be for good." Bruce warned while reaching for the switch again.
But this time Max spoke gently to Bruce, having read about him and how he'd lost his parents all those years ago. "I read about you, Bruce. I know how your parents were taken from you when you were 8 years old. The ones who murdered my parents, my sister and my best friend's dad are on that transport. This is my only chance to bring them to justice...for my family and Terry's father."
When Bruce didn't answer, Max held the railing with a sigh before Bruce spoke to her. "The hover pads are in the northeast sector."
Max smiled before jumping down and heading northeast. "Wish me luck, Mr. Wayne."
"Good luck." Bruce said softly while rubbing Ace's head.
Meanwhile at the northeast sector
As the contasters of Nerve Gas were being loaded into a hover transport, Powers was taking with his guards while Max was looking down on them, hanging from the ceiling while looking closely at Powers while listening to him with her sensitive touch microphones.
"You said she wouldn't be a problem. Deal with it!" Powers ordered as Fixx came up to his boss.
"Almost done loading."
"The sooner the better. They still haven't found our trespasser yet, and I don't want anyone interfering."
As Max was preparing to make her move, a guard suddenly called out. "Look, there she is!"
Max then released herself before gliding across the area to avoid the rest of the guards' gunfire before she flew into them, sending them away from her before she jumped right in front of Powers and Fixx. "You're out of business, as of now." She said to Powers before looking at Fixx. "And as for you, Fixx: I'm taking you in for the murders of-" She said before she was taken by surprise and knocked away by the loading machine, piloted by 1 of Powers' workers!
Fixx tried to get to her to shoot her but Powers took his gun. "Get the hovercraft into the air!" He ordered, making his assistant run inside of the hovercraft.
After Max quickly got up, she took out a Batarang from her suit's left wrist before throwing it at the driver of the loading machine, knocking him out before she took cover from Powers after he tried shooting her. After Max threw another Batarang at him but he quickly shot it.
"Like shooting skeet." He said with a smirk before advancing on Max for the kill.
But Max jumped behind the last canister of Nerve Gas, picked it up and yelled out. "Have a taste of your own Nerve Gas, asshole!" She yelled out before throwing the Nerve Gas at Powers as he reacted by shooting the canister, making the gas spray out of it before Powers fell and saw that he was getting covered in his own gas. "No. NOOOOOO!" He yelled out in horror as Max quickly took off after the hovercraft that was taking off with the Nerve Gas. "HELP ME! HELP ME!" Powers called out in desperation.
As Max was climbing on the hovercraft, she brought out the suit's retractable claws and climbed into she jumped to a batch, opening it and throwing 2 guards out into the harbor before getting inside and into the pilot's seat, turning around and seeing that Fixx was gone and the autopilot was engaged.
When Max looked around, she saw Fixx, who had 2 electric knuckle dusters and was punched back by being caught off guard before she avoided more punches and held back Fixx's wrists with the suit's 10 times strength!
"You're pretty strong...but you're not Batman." Fixx said smugly.
"No... I'm not!" Max said before declaring with a very serious and determined look while slowly looking at the one who killed her family and Terry's father, but only the puppet and tool of her horrible tragedy. "I am vengeance! I am Neo-Gotham's Dark Knight! I am BATGIRL!" Before she called upon the suit's 20 times maximum strength, making Fixx afraid before the new Dark Knight headbutted him and punched him so hard that his jaw bled before he was punched into the controls of the hovercraft, which his knuckle dusters hit, making the aircraft fly out of control before beginning to go down! The new Dark Knight then quickly got out of the hovercraft as the Nerve Gas was falling out its tubes before the aircraft went at the bottom of the harbor, taking Fixx and the Nerve Gas with it before Max flew back into Gotham.
The next morning
Max, who was exhausted after all she'd been through, was sleeping on her bed with the Batgirl suit under her bed. After waking up from getting all the sleep she needed, Mary opened the door to her room. "Max, honey, you've gotta get dressed. You've got company."
"Who? You, Terry and Matt?" Max asked with curiosity.
"No. Mr. Bruce Wayne." Mary told her, surprising Max before she got into her regular clothes, came out her room and saw Bruce Wayne sitting on her couch while Mary had handed him some coffee. "I hope you don't mind milk. Max prefers her coffee that way."
"So do I." Bruce said with a polite smile as he took the cup before he looked and saw Max. "Maxine. Sorry to get you up so early."
"That's okay. I'm not much of a sleeper anyway unless I really, really need it." Max assured the old man politely.
"You never told us you knew Bruce Wayne, Max." Mary said with surprise that Max knew the famous billionaire.
"Where's Terry and Matt?" Max asked.
"Terry took Matt out for breakfast and they're going to the park after that." Mary answered with a smile.
"That's good. But anyway...I-" Max started but Bruce covered for her.
"Why I owe this girl my life. She defended me against a bunch of Jokerz once. I tried to reward her, but she absolutely refused."
"Mr. Wayne wants to offer you a job." Mary explained.
"Really?" Max asked with a smile and a raised eyebrow.
"It's not much, mind you." Bruce said before picking up his cup. "I find that in my old age, I could use a part-time assistant. You know, a gofor. Gofor this, gofor that. An ally, as it were. Would you be interested?"
"Sure she would, wouldn't you, dear? I mean, to work with someone as famous as Mr. Wayne." Mary said with a bit of excitement for Max.
"Sure. As long as Mrs. McGinnis and her sons are well taken care of and provided for. After what they've been through, they deserve that much." Max said while speaking her only condition in exchange for accepting the 'job' that Mr. Wayne was offering her.
"Don't worry, Maxine. They'll all be in good hands: ours." He said with a smile before standing up and putting his cup down. "But I should warn you, I can be a difficult taskmaster. I accept nothing short of excellence in all who work for me."
"I think I can more than handle it, Mr. Wayne." Max said with a smirk, knowing that with her skills, she could more than handle anything Mr. Wayne had to offer her.
"Very good then, Ms. Gibson. Welcome to my world." Bruce said with a smile before he and Max shook hands, beginning their new partnership
Meanwhile at Wayne-Powers
Powers, who had gotten to help in time, was being treated with radiation therapy to save himself from the virus before the doctors walked up to him as one of them told him the news. "The good news is that the radiation seems to have completely eradicated the virus."
"What's the bad news?" Powers asked.
The doctors looked at each other before the head doctor spoke again. "As you know, the mutational properties of the virus can be corrupted by its environment-" He explained before Powers grabbed him.
"Bottom line it, doctor." He ordered.
"Kill the radiation, please." The doctor said before the radiation was turned off, making the room dark before Powers' skin was glowing bright green and only his bones were showing as he got off the table and looked into the nearby mirror and saw his reflection.
Power was so shocked and surprised beyond belief that he began laughing like a maniac. "Hahahahahaha. Hahahahahaha. Hahahahahahahaha!"
