A Trip to the Beach

Chapter 1: Ready to go

Hillwood

2025

It was a beautiful, sunny day in the town known as Hillwood and it was the first day of Spring Break too.

Yes, Spring Break.

A whole week of no books, no teachers and nothing but having fun and kicking back.

Everyone in town was looking forward to this, especially two certain families who lived in this town.

The Shortman family and their good friends the Johanssens.

These families have been good friends for many years and they will be vacationing together, like they sometimes do.

This year, however, they had done place in mind for their vacation.

"I can't wait to go to the beach..."Andy, the eldest child of the Shortmans, said in excitement as he carried out his duffel bag.

"Me too, this is gonna be great..."Kiara, the eldest child of the Johanssens, said as she helped carry some items.

They have been best friends since they were babies and did practically everything together and now their families were going to take a trip to the beach together.

"Come on everyone, let's get the lead out. I don't wanna get stuck in traffic..."Andy's mother, Helga Shortman, said in a bossy tone.

"Coming, Dear..."Andy's father, Arnold said, as he carried a few more bags and put it in the back of her SUV.

Kiara's parents, Gerald and Phoebe Johanssen, had put their own items in their own car, a big mini-van that belonged to Phoebe.

"That seems to be the last of it..."Gerald said, pleased.

"Alright..."Andy said, excited for the chance to get to the beach.

"It's a shame that mom and dad, and grandpa and grandma couldn't come this year..."Arnold commented.

"I know but your parents haven't seen Eduardo in a long time and they really wanted to see him again.. Plus, your grandparents are still on their cruise to Mexico..."Helga reminded.

However, the blonde woman then noticed that something seemed out of place here...or rather, , two little trouble makers were out of place.

"Has anyone seen Megan and Kiki?..."Helga asked, not seeing her daughter and youngest god-daughter around.

Everyone else looked worried, only to hear what sounded like knocking...coming from the back of Helga's SUV.

"What in the world?..."Arnold said as he looked and saw that his daughter was there, amongst all the items they placed in the back.

He wasted no time in opened the back and letting her free.

"How on Earth did you get back there?..."Arnold asked and he grabbed her and pulled her out.

"A certain duo by the names of Andrew Phillip Shortmanand Kiara Satomi Johanssen didn't see anyone as they kept shoving their stuff in the back seat!..."Megan said as she sent an annoyed look at her brother and his best friend.

"Heh...heh...oops...sorry, Megan..."Andy said sheepishly.

"Sure, you are..."Megan muttered while Kiki got out of the same place.

"Yeah, you will be..."Kiki said and Kiara gulped.

"Our bad..."Kiara said apologetically.

After the parents made sure that the youngest girls were okay and gave a stern talking to for the older kids, it was time to go. The Shorman's were in their own vehicle and so were the Johanssens. They soon made their way to one specific place in mind.

"TO THE BEACH!..."They all said in their respective cars before they all drove off, each one eager to get to their destination.

Later

After a few moments of driving, The Shortman families were talking as the mother, Helga, was at the wheel.

"I'm so excited to spend the week at the beach!..."Andy said and his sister grinned.

"I'll say, it's going to be great to hang there and do nothing but have fun..."Megan said as she stretched her arms and imitated a relaxed position.

"Fun...fun..."Little Henry let out from his car seat before giggling.

"That's right, Little guy. It's gonna be fun..."Arnold said from the passenger seat.

"It better be, for the price we're paying to get there..."Helga said in her usual way but her husband knew that she's joking.

"Don't worry, you know that we always end up having a good time there..."Arnold reminded and his wife smiled.

"I still can't believe you managed to rent out that same beach house again..."Helga said from the wheel.

She is, in fact, referring to the same beach house where they had stayed when they had gone to beach when they were in the fourth grade and again in the sixth grade, after they became a couple.

Arnold just smiled.

"Hey, that place is special to us...it has a lot of good memories..."Arnold said as he sent a flirty look to his wife.

"Like my grandpa once said, the beach has a magical, romantic quality..."He added in a flirty way.

Helga smiled and due to being in a small traffic jam, used this chance to share a quick kiss with him, much to the disgust of their oldest child.

"Gross!..."Andy said as he looked away.

His parents quickly came back for breath and chuckled.

"Don't be too quick to judge, Andy. After all, the beach is a place for passion and for love..."Arnold added while his son made gagging noises.

Megan giggled.

"I guess that means you and your girlfriend will be getting cozy this week, huh?..."The blonde girl teased.

"Kiara is not my girlfriend, you little pest!..."Andy snapped at her.

"I'm not a pest!..."Megan shouted.

"Are too!..."Andy yelled.

"Are not!..."Megan yelled back.

"No yelling in the car!..."Helga shouted from the wheel but didn't take her eyes off the road.

"Yeah, you two. This is a vacation, so relax and try to behave..."Arnold said sternly.

"Sorry..."The two siblings said while Henry just sucked his thumb.

The car drive continued and unknown to Andy, his best friend was having her own conversation with her own family about their vacation plans.

In the Johanssen's mini-van

"Now this is gonna be sweet!..."Gerald said as he was at the wheel. "No work, no phone calls and no nosy neighbors. Just a whole week with my babe and my two girls..."The dark haired man said in a pleased tone.

"Yes, it has been a while since we had time to ourselves..."Phoebe said, eager for some family bonding.

All the while, their daughters were in deep in thought as they sat in the back seat.

"I wonder if Megan will wanna make a sand castle with me..."Kiki thought as she made plans in her mind.

Her sister, on the other hand, was staring out of the window and had other ideas in mind.

Ones involving her oblong-headed best friend.

"A whole week at the beach with Andy, huh..."Kiara thought as she smiled a bit as she imaged having all sorts of fun in the sun with her best friend.

It's gonna rock!
