X-.-X well hello there. i have no idea what i'm doing and oh so nervous. fell back in love with star wars for the umpteenth time and decided i should actually bring my oc to life after who knows how many years. a few things though...
i am not an expert on star wars! i love the stories and the lore but i don't know everything. things probably won't be 100% accurate no matter how much research i do and i am sorry for that.
there will be changes! this takes place after meeting Ahsoka but space daddy doesn't go to Tython...yet. if that isn't to your liking then please turn away.
some things probably won't make sense! but who cares cuz space magic.
there will be a lot of things in the story that i've created! plants, animals, flowers, planets. cuz ya know big open galaxy.
there will be mature content! trauma, sex, violence and language. won't be too explicit i hope...
sorry for all that. just had to get that out and warn readers. onto a hopefully long adventure with space daddy and danger frog bean! X-.-X
I
It was humid. And there was a sickly sweet scent in the air.
That's all Din Djarin had to say about the planet he was currently on, waiting for his job to arrive. At least the inside of the bar was cool. He was seated in a corner booth with his back to the wall as his dark eyes scanned the insides. It was late afternoon and it was already bustling with people. If a small group of less then ten counts as bustling. He arrived here on this muggy swamp jungle of a planet a few hours ago and already wanted to leave. His client was late. Grogu didn't seem be be bothered. He cooed and babbled as he stared into the bowl of stew in front of him, making sure nothing tries to attach to his face again. Din took his eyes away from the crowd to watch the little green kid.
It's been days since he meet Ahsoka Tano. He was willing to let the little tyke go, but after she refused and told him to wait for others to come to them, Grogu was still his responsibility. She also told him that she felt no connection to him as a Master would with their Apprentice. In the end it was up to Grogu. None of that really made sense to Din. What he got from it was the kid's still in his care until somebody he likes takes him back to his kind. And he really doesn't know how long that will be.
Not that he wants to see the kid go. Not really.
"Are you the one they call Mando?"
Both him and the kid looked to their right where a pale pink female Twi'lek stood. He was instantly reminded of Xi'an, but this one's expression was softer, kinder. He nodded and she cautiously slid into the booth. She reached carefully and slowly into her cloak, keeping her eyes on the helmet as she pulled a small bag that clinked when she placed it on the table. Next to it was a holo-map disk.
"5000 credits. This is all I can offer on behalf of our village."
"Fine." It's better than nothing. "What's the job?"
A shaky sigh of relief passed through the Twi'lek's lips. "Bandits. They keep terrorizing our home." She paused, her body shivering. "We...are not fighters. And many others refuse to help. They say it will ruin trade. If they are not dealt with, we will have to leave. Leave everything we built."
Typical. A small defenseless village under the boot of scum. It should be an easy job. He stood and grabbed the kid, placing him back in the satchel before taking the money and holo-map. He took a few steps before his client grabbed him by the arm.
"There are Mercenaries working with them," she warned in a low voice.
Din figured there would be. After all, this shithole of a town was perfect for those types. Like he had any right to talk. He dipped his head and she let his arm go. He internally commended the frightened Twi'lek coming here on her own to pay him.
Some of the shadier people were staring him down. Despite Greef Karga welcoming him back with open arms, there were still members within the Guild that despise him. It didn't bother him. Unless they try to pull some stupid shit. Which they have and it didn't end well for the ones that jumped him.
When they reached the outside, the sickly sweet mugginess hit Din. He almost recoiled back. Grogu chirped in the satchel and his oversized ears bounced when the outside air hit him. He briskly walked towards the shipyards, carefully avoiding the market goers. There was an unsettling feeling in his stomach. Similar to the time he was going to leave the kid on Nevarro, but went back for him. That feeling had been there since he arrived on this damn planet. He tried to ignore it yet it stayed. It was clawing at him.
He reached the Razor Crest and headed inside to gather his beskar spear, opting to leave the rifle, and to study the holo-map. A shimmering green orb emerged from the disk with brighter dots indicating settlements. There was a small square tucked in a valley. That was the village his client was from. Not to far away was a red circle he presumed where the bandits were staying.
The kid hummed softly, entranced by the shining lights until he noticed a creature hopping into the ship. He squirmed in the satchel like an angry worm until Din put him down. The Mandalorian wasn't really paying him much attention as he continued to study the map. He should be able to get there in about an hour with a speeder bike. He finally looked down at Grogu when he heard him let out an excited squeal. He was wobbling after an orange six legged frog that hopped from one side to the other. Once he caught it in his three finger grasp, he tried to put it in his mouth as he does with everything.
"No drop it," Din said in a stern, modulated tone. "What did I tell you about eating things off the ground?"
The kid just looked up at him then down at the frog before shoving it in his mouth. Din could only stare down at him. He's pretty sure the kid just does this to spite him sometimes. With a sigh, he picked up the little green twerp and the holo-map before exited the Crest. Just outside the hanger limits was a small shop with parts, supplies and a variety of speeders to buy. A young boy that worked there went from quietly cleaning some parts to looking absolutely terrified as the armor clad Bounty Hunter headed towards him. He ducked behind some crates, causing a tool box to crash to the ground. A Toydarian emerged from the shop with his wings flapping furiously and had some angry yelling for the boy. He stopped mid-sentenced when he noticed Din and gave him his full attention.
"A Mandalorian!" he exclaimed as he fluttered to Din. "I heard rumors from the bar, but didn't think it was true. What can I do for ya?"
"Just need to borrow a speeder bike," he replied, holding out some credits.
The Toydarian looked please to see the money and happily took it. "Of course of course. I've got some in the back. Follow me."
Din hesitated, knowing those words usually led to bad outcomes. The Toydarian was insistent, gesturing towards him with a grubby hand. Din took slow steps to the back of the building where the small lot of speeders sat on top of wheeled platforms. One of them caught Din's attention. It was an Aratech 74-Z that looked remodeled into a more civilian bike. He pointed at that one and the owner brought it over on a platform, releasing the bike from it's shackles.
"There ya are! If ya break it, it's double."
"I understand."
He climbed onto the bike and sped towards the path that lead out of the town and to the small village. The trees were tall and their trunks thick with vine covered branches reaching low. Now that he was in the jungle, it was darker and the air was thicker. String lights between thin wooden posts glowed a soft yellowish-orange in the mist. There were times Din mentally complained about having the armor. But his mind completely changed once a few blaster bolts dinged off his chest piece. It was cooler under the thick canopy of the trees at least. Just unbelievably muggy. At least the kid was doing okay. He thinks.
He had to stop a couple of times when long limbed lumbering beasts walked over the path. They payed no mind the to small speeder and it's temporary owners, but Din wasn't going to risk upsetting something he could build a small hut under. Grogu sunk deeper into the satchel with a worried whimper when they passed by. Their scaly bodies of dark green and brown blended in with the surroundings. A soft whistling coming from the beasts' long noses reached Din's ears. It wasn't a shrill sound but a more pleasant tone, like a flute playing a lullaby. He waited until their stomping forms were faint beats in the distance before revving up the bike and continued on.
There were large flying creatures as well. Elegant avian beings with long tails and shimmering colors. He saw them a few times since he's been here. The first was when he descended down to the planet as they danced within the clouds and the other times while he was scoping the town. Grogu had noticed them too, reaching up to point with his little fingers and making hum of curiosity. Din tries to stay away from creatures unless they're a job. He hasn't had the best of luck with them in the past.
Until the little green, wrinkly fifty year old magic wielding kid showed up.
Since then it's been a hell of a ride. Pissing off the Guild. Being the one partially to blame for the Covet to flee from Nevarro. Being targeted by multiple Bounty Hunters. Which still happens from time to time. Especially since Moff Gideon was still around and desperately looking for the Child. He met other Mandalorians who were so gung-ho about taking back their home. Meeting Ahsoka Tano, but not being able to leave Grogu with her despite her being similar to Grogu. It just seemed like yesterday he was pulling in quarries for the Guild and trudging through life. Stopping by brothels and bars here and there just for the sake of getting rid of tension. Not for enjoyment. It became a routine for him since becoming a Bounty Hunter.
But Grogu had changed him. He felt like his life had a bigger purpose now. Yes he did what he could for the foundlings and the Covet; that was a given. That was the Way. With the little green kid, he has started to notice things more. Like details on animals. Scents of forests. The sound of wind. Things he wouldn't even care about. It was like he was going through life too fast and now it was slowing down. He had someone to talk to even if he just babbled. Back then, he only needed to know what was before him. What was in his proximity. Only talked to those he needed to. He never payed attention to the little things. He felt more comfortable around Cara Dune and Karga. Like he can trust them now. He trusted Kuiil and was saddened by his loss. He even liked a droid for a short while. He can rely on Peli Motto to help with the kid and his ship whenever he goes to Tatooine. There are those on Sorgan that welcomed him. Would he say his life is better?
Yes. Yes he would.
But also more dangerous thanks to the glaring target on his back. And Grogu can be a handful at times. Not listening when Din tells him to stop eating random things he finds. He does have to be careful when going into a firefight and he can't leave him in the ship or he doesn't have someone to watch over him. The kid, like Ahsoka said, was too attached to the Mandalorian. He was a foundling though and Din's upmost priority.
'This is the Way...'
