I Don't Own Godzilla or BNA: Brand New Animal. the first segment of the story is by TyrakatheDragonFan.
How does one define a Hero?
It isn't a hard thing to do; they've been immortalized in stories and legends dating back to the dawn of time, and I've seen them all. They are usually thought of as strong, fearless, and, as the title implies, heroic. They always fight for the right cause and do so with a heart unwavering and pure, never giving into evil and bringing hope to those most in need of something to believe in.
That is the very definition of a hero.
Which is why, when they are truly needed most...heroes are worthless.
You heard me.
Worthless.
It is for these very reasons a true hero cannot be counted upon when someone has to fight: their purity and sense of right are the very reasons they cannot be the ones to rely upon.
A hero's greatest attributes are often also his greatest weakness.
And when a hero falls to his own morals, who will save you then?
Sometimes, more often than not, to truly protect the ones you care about and do what is needed, you have to do the unthinkable and the unforgivable; it's not always the easy thing to do, nor the best thing to do. Hell, many times it's not even the right thing to do, but it's what needs to be done...and a conscious will only get in the way. Which is why a hero, who fights with a pure heart, cannot bring themselves to do such evil, and never win against such odds...but one who doesn't can do what a hero cannot and crush the opposing force, and live with the consequences, unaffected by the blood on their hands...or should I say claws.
Sometimes a hero is the last thing you need to save the day.
Sometimes...
You need a Monster.
Somewhere in ocean waters of Japan it was raining.
For most, such weather would be an inconvenience for those who like going outside. Or anyone who had plans for the day, only to be ruined by bad weather. Yet it was a necessary thing rain. And a natural occurrence that no one could predict.
Didn't make it any less frustrating.
Or, any less dangerous.
For you see, those who spend their lives out on the ocean waves and tides know the true horror of such weather.
Winds that moved at great speeds, waves that could tip boats over or even submerged them entirely, and lightning cracking across the sky with booming thunder.
Truly this was no place for the weak of heart, body, or mind. For only those with the experience and knowledge of those before them could ever hope to survive.
A large fishing boat, the Yahata Maru, was sailing 100 miles south of Tokyo. It had been roughly 3 weeks that they have been out at sea, and it was only after managing to haul in a sizable amount of sea food did the crew of the Yahata Maru decide to set course back home.
But no sooner did they get start to get close to him, the mother all storms hit them like a speeding freight train.
Inside, the crew of the ship we're doing what they could to maintain their heading. However the raging storm outside was proving only to make that very difficult as they pressed onward.
Absently, within the deck of the ship, the captain of the Yahata Maru stoped for a moment to look behind him. Checking in on a certain crew member of his ship.
"Ken," he called out while he held on to the steering wheel, "you holding up back there?"
The now named Ken, who was a man who seemed to be in his forties with Black hair and wearing a life vest over his clothes, only gave a thumbs up as he tried to keep his balance all the while. The Poor man looking more sea sick than anything else.
Nodding, the captain turned to look at his communications officer. The man fiddling furiously with the radio.
"Togashi, any luck yet?" He asked, jerking at the steering wheel again to keep the ship steady.
"None so far captain," the radio officer said, absently smacking the top of the radio in frustration. "I've I've been trying to reach the mainland for a dog's age now, and I got ZIP! The storms causing to much interference."
"Well keep at it! We gotta get back to shore before anything else-!"
CRASH!
Sadly the captain's sentence was cut short when the ship suddenly collided with something and everyone on boarded jerked forward. Some even falling flat onto the floor.
Quickly getting his bearings, the captain was first to get his footing. "What happened?! What did we hit?"
At that, the helmsmen of the ship was quick to find out. Looking out the window of the deck, he found what the ship had crashed into.
"Land mass on the front deck captain," he said as he pointed towards the front of the ship.
Looking out the window, everyone was quick to see that the man was right. In the midst of the ocean waves was in fact a large yet small island. The ship having crashed into some of the rocks surrounding it and seemingly getting wedged within them as a result.
"Great. As if we didn't have enough trouble already...," the captain muttered. Adjusting his hat, the man was quick to give out orders, "Alright I want everyone on deck, we gotta get the ship out of these rocks before we sink. And Togashi, keep trying to signal the mainland. If we can't get the ship free we're going to need a pickup."
Nodding, everyone was already on the move, already making plans to free themselves and get home.
Ken however, who was still feeling ill, absently looked out the window he was leaning against. His eyes looking out towards the island, he could only glacé at it as the communications officer continued to signal for help on the radio.
And that's when it happened.
Before Ken's eyes, he suddenly bore witness to an unbelievable sight! For on the island, without any warning, the rocks from the island started to rise up! Flashes of light occurred, and Ken looked out in horror and awe to see on what was happening!
The crew wasn't too far off from taking notice of what was happening, but they didn't have time to fully register what was happening as they all started to yell in panic as something incredible was rocking the boat!
And then, On this day and this day alone, that they would be the first to hear a sound unlike anything the world has ever heard before. As the ground on the island EXPLODED and...!
SKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!
