Hours had passed after the Gems had taken off inside of Yellow Diamond's ship. Moldavite couldn't help but stare out the windows to gaze at the stars and planets they passed by on their way to Jupiter. There wasn't a lot of talking with everyone being so nervous about the trip and what could be hiding on the gas giant. It just felt unsettling since the Diamonds had asked for their help.
The five pearls stood together staring at the monitor with Onyx standing behind his wife and lover. Moldavite looked at them wondering what they were thinking. They all had to be nervous.
The atmosphere around Jupiter was smoother than they thought once they entered it. Nothing aimed at the ship to attack or cause them any delay.
"I don't think I've seen any shock waves yet," Onyx said, "I wonder if we aren't close enough yet?"
"Maybe the problem resolved itself?" Pink Pearl said tapping her cheek.
"Even if it did, we have to find out why it started in the first place," Pearl said looking concerned, "The Diamonds seemed to say they were colored orange but maybe because we are closer we can't see them?"
"Why don't we just search for the moon creating the problem?" Moldavite asked with her voice sounding similar to Peridot's.
"The shock waves are different here than on Earth. It seems we couldn't see them but the electronics showed them like the warp pad and Temple. It's hard to tell if it'll happen again," Yellow Pearl said with Blue Pearl nodding beside of her.
The warning system went off for a total of ten seconds before ceasing. They looked at each other with confusion. The ship rattled somewhat and a flash of orange was seen through the screen.
"That moon," Moldavite said with a smile on her face, "I think we found it!"
Pearl turned the ship some for them to see a tower on one of the moons. The top of it was orange like it was sparkling. Another wave was sent out shaking the ship lightly.
"This is it?" Pink Pearl asked.
Blue Pearl nodded firmly as they stared into the screen at their destination. No one said anything for a good few minutes as they watched the shock waves cease.
"There's no doubt that's it," Blue Pearl said.
"I've never seen this kind of thing before," White Pearl said, "What if there are other Gems acting on their own against the Diamonds? Did they figure out a way to hurt them?"
Pearl frowned.
"They've changed... There's no reason to do that."
"Can you get the ship closer?" Onyx asked leaning against the chair Pearl was in.
"I think so but we have to be careful. It's hard to conceal a Diamond ship after all."
She started going towards the troublesome moon base.
"Let's hope we can get in there without destroying the ship or being detected by something much worse than that.
X
"What moon is this?" Onyx asked as they got closer.
"Callisto," Moldavite said sounding like Peridot again, "I had spent a month reading about the planets in the Milky Way. It makes some sense that there is a moon base here and not the others..."
"Hang on tight," Pearl said.
She had taken twenty minutes to get them a spot away from the moon base just in case something was watching them. It would be the wrong time to be reckless. Once they were completely parked, everyone got out and stood on the surface of the moon looking around. It sounded so empty.
"Why didn't we bring Pink Pearl with us?" Moldavite asked as they several hundred feet from the ship now.
"The base was built in the time she was absent from Homeworld," Blue Pearl said.
"Oh."
"We might want to be quiet," White Pearl said, "Only because half of us don't know this place and because we don't know what's here."
Pearl, Onyx and Moldavite followed the other three.
A short time later they reached one of the many craters on Callisto. Onyx looked around in confusion wondering why they had stopped.
"Why did we stop here of all places?" he asked.
White Pearl stepped down and a small pillar rose upward with a hand print on it. She touched it then a trap door opened up.
"This was hidden just in case we were attacked by other Gems or other creatures or if intelligent beings had tried infiltrating our moon base. This is actually a pipe and it was walled close with several trap doors for protection."
They heard a few clicks then the pipe opened up.
"Wow."
"It's a small drop down," Yellow Pearl said.
"Fun," Moldavite said with a smile.
She was eager to go for it.
There was a few feet drop before they had to start crawling before they got to actually walk through the tunnel itself. It took a complete fifteen minutes to reach the actual moon base. White Pearl looked around with Yellow Pearl. Everyone else waited for some direction.
"There's five floors."
"Are we at the top or bottom?" Onyx asked.
"Bottom so we'll have to go upward," Blue Pearl said.
Everyone headed for the staircase making their way up to the second floor. They were making their way up seeing the next floor was blocked. A red light flooded the stairway making everyone freeze. White Pearl summoned her weapon first then the others followed suit. Guns appeared on the walls and began firing in a rotating motion.
After a few minutes, the firing ceased with pieces of machinery on the stair way. Whatever was left of the automatic guns, they disappeared into the walls and the blockade opened up. The next floor up was the same way but with drones this time. They moved quite fast for machines making the task to disable them a little more difficult than the guns in the stairway.
The third floor was full of red light lasers. This was slightly more of piece of cake for the pearls but Moldavite and Onyx had more of a difficult time since they were bigger in size. Just as Onyx made it to the end, he accidentally triggered the trap. The floor shot upward making Onyx dive into the stairway at the last minute.
"Wow..." Onyx said looking back.
"Hopefully there isn't any other floors like that," the fusion said scratching her head.
"I agree," Pearl said.
"They had this base heavily guarded for reasons... This moon looks dead but... There are resources here they could use," Blue Pearl said, "The radiation here is too high with organic matter such as humans so it made the perfect moon base for the Diamonds."
"Let's make it to the next floor," Yellow Pearl said, "We aren't sure what will happen if the shock waves continue. I hope it doesn't affect Homeworld."
Pearl nodded.
The fourth floor was filled with crystals. A red light filled the floor like they were being scanned. A weird static sound filled the room. Dopplegangers appeared. Moldavite grinned as she attacked hers first. Yellow Pearl sighed but charged in next with everyone else behind her.
Much to their surprise, the holograms were solid and shattered upon too many impacts. There was pieces of crystals littering the floor. Everyone let a sigh of relief after they were done. They headed for the last floor upward hoping there was nothing waiting for them.
The last floor had a large seat an Elite Gem would have sat in. It was facing away from them. It looked like someone was sitting in the chair. They all summoned their weapons just in case whoever was in that chair attacked them. The being turned around in the chair to stare at them.
It was female looking humanoid about the size of White Diamond. She had orange skin, the armor she wore was orange and tight against her body. Her eyes were black with scarlet irises and white glowing slit like pupils. The strangest thing about her was she was missing her mouth.
The Gems said nothing. They were completely speechless staring at it. Even as old as some of them were, they had never seen anything like it. The thing looked like a Diamond but she wasn't one. It was something that could hurt one though through the shock waves it was creating.
The orange like Diamond rose from her chair for them to see her hair was connected to the chair and the computer. Strands were attached to the dome of the moon base. The only thing she looked like was a virus that was infecting the moon base and the computer system. She looked terrifying striking fear into the Crystal Gems.
Some orange hair fell from the dome forming into two giant fists. They managed to break off from their fear frozen stance as the orange fists swung at them. Orange shock waves came flying away from her nails. They were thrown in the walls barely scratching the fists.
"Ugh!" Yellow Pearl said standing up.
"What are we going to do?" Onyx said looking at his wife.
She was drawing a blank too.
"Why don't we cut the hair from the dome to weaken it? If not completely maybe just some of it," Moldavite said giving a confident smile.
"I think that would work!" Pearl said smiling, "Good idea!"
"Us three will go after her hair then," White Pearl said, "You three go after the body since Moldavite is stronger."
"Alright, that sounds good!" Onyx said, "We have a plan. She seems to have two fists only so she can't go after all of us at once."
They all agreed with a nod and charged in.
Blue Pearl, Yellow Pearl and White Pearl cut the hair from the ceiling. Onyx, Moldavite and Pearl thrust their weapons through the virus' body. She had a static like wave go through her body and she flopped forward. They all stood still waiting but it never got back up much to their relief. Their weapon disappeared.
Pearl started messing with the computer to contact the Diamonds. As soon as the Diamonds appeared on the screen the orange creature got up trying to destroy them in one last attempt. The Diamonds yelled on the screen but Moldavite took action slicing the virus in half.
Everyone fell silent as a gem hit the floor when a large cloud filled the space the virus once sat in. Blue Pearl knelt down and bubbled the gem sending back home to the Temple.
"Thank you so much!" Blue Diamond said on the screen.
"Are you able to still come back to Earth?" Yellow Diamond asked.
"Of course," Pearl said, "We managed to sneak in without damaging the ship."
"Fantastic! See you when you get here!"
The screen went black and they all smiled at each other. They made their way to Yellow Diamond's ship and headed back to Earth.
