A bright flash of light shot out of a rather large pile of snow. Steven, Lapis, Blue Pearl, Pearl, Onyx and Yellow Pearl shot out of the snow, screaming before they landed in the soft, white cold blanket making it crunch under their weight as they hit it. Pearl popped out of the snow first looking around for her friends. At least it was a soft landing.
"Is everyone ok?" she asked.
"I'm ok," said they muffled voice of Onyx.
His upper half of his body was lodged in a large pile of snow making Pearl smile.
"Yellow Pearl?"
She popped out next brushing the snow out of her hair.
"Yes?"
"Can you help Onyx out?" she asked nicely.
"Of course!"
Yellow Pearl had pulled herself out the snow easily and walked over to the pile of snow that her lover was stuck in. She started digging and pulling the snow to the side to help free him easier. Lapis pulled out of the snow then pulled out Blue Pearl who thanked her quietly. They found Steven who had landed feet first into the snow.
Blue Pearl started digging at the snow as Lapis began pulling at Steven's arms to free him. Onyx managed to pull out first. He brushed the snow off and stood up. Steven came out next and Lapis placed him on top of the snow. He shook out his clothes to get the snow out.
It started to snow pretty hard now. To Steven it looked like they were in the middle of no where and it was just white every where. It was hard to tell where they were. Pearl smiled as she looked around. It was hard to see much of anything but all they needed was a strong sense of direction.
"Where are we exactly?" Steven asked.
"We are in one of the coldest places on Earth. People call it the South Pole but I think that's rather misleading. I don't see a pole anywhere around here."
Yellow Pearl shrugged along with Lapis.
"Let's go this way."
Pearl started leading the Crystal Gems up a rather large hill. The snow was still blowing pretty hard but it was easier to see where they were walking at.
"We are getting closer. Almost there."
"Where are we going?" Lapis asked.
"There's a temple that's hidden in the snowy mountains. It's hidden only because of the large amounts of snow fall here."
"Then, maybe it'll be easy to spot?" Steven asked.
"Well, the temple itself is in the mountain side and the entrance is probably covered up," he said scratching his head.
"Wow, a hidden temple," Steven whispered in awe.
They came across a ramp like stairway. It led up to the center of the mountains. Once they made their way up, Lapis was able to move the snow out of the way for them to find the entrance of the temple. The outside had an icy blue appearance like ice. No wonder it was hard to find.
Pearl, Onyx, Steven and Yellow Pearl pulled open the icy like doors. They all walked in and let go of the doors. They closed slowly, clicking shut behind them. They glanced around taking in their new surroundings.
"Remember to be cautious. This is the place the beacon was last detected at."
They started to advance forward when Blue Pearl pointed towards a light that was further into the mountain.
"What's that?" she asked.
"That's the beacon!" Yellow Pearl said with a smile.
"Alright, let's head to the other room!" Pearl said.
They barely made a few steps in when the ground started to shake violently. There was a weird sound echoing through the temple like a roar or growl of some kind that they had never heard of before. They looked at each other as the shaking got closer. As it got closer, they managed to make out what it was.
It had the appearance of a deer standing on it's hind legs and giant jagged antlers. It had large sharp teeth and white eyes. It let out a weird, terrifying roar once more and charged at them faster. The thing was tall and it looked blue like it had ice as it's skin.
It was a Wendigo.
They managed to collect themselves and pulled out their weapons. It let out another screech that made Steven cover his ears. It charged in with it's head down almost hit Lapis with it's dark blue antlers. They manged to land a few hits on it but the ice like shell wasn't cracking any.
Nothing they did could scratch the surface.
They began running around, trying to find ways of beating it. Nothing they did worked. Yellow Pearl looked upward seeing giant icicles hanging down. She tried waving her hands to get Pearl's attention. They all moved out of the way once it barreled through them. It wedged it's antlers in the wall of the temple.
"Pearl! Let's knock those icicles down! That should break through the icy skin it has!"
"Good idea!"
She looked at her companions trying to come up with an idea.
"Steven, Onyx and Lapis! Keep the creature distracted!"
The Wendigo pulled itself free from the wall.
Pearl, Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl stood on the sides and summoned two spears each. They launched them upward towards the ceiling. The temple started to shake violently as the icicles came unhinged from the ceiling. Lapis used all her strength to use the snow and ice around her to hold the Wendigo down. The icicles fell and hit the corruption.
The Wendigo poofed back into it's gem and Blue Pearl caught it in her hands. She bubbled it and sent it back to their temple back at home. They continued towards the light that the corruption had been keeping guard to see that it was a crystal ball of some sort. Pearl reached in and picked it up.
"What is it?" Steven asked.
"It's an Orb Drive. It powers anything that has an electrical and magical surge to it," Blue Pearl said.
"That's pretty cool!" he said with a smile, "Are we taking it home?"
"Yes we are. So, if anything ever happens like another power outage, we can help power the city."
They hurried out of the icy temple and back out into the snow. They hurried along when the snow started to fall again into flurries before picking up and turning into a snowstorm again. They reached the warp just in time and jumped on to warp home before they were stranded in the cold again.
