Video flashback is in italics.
Walking down the stairs with her daughter's hand in hers Callie groaned in exhaustion as they made their way into the family room a few hours after her wife left for the week.
She was still tired and had convinced herself that she was coming down with something so terrible that it was really going to put her down for weeks. But, she had to push through for her daughter.
Charlee was still congested when she woke, but thankfully fever free, however her mother gave her a dose of medicine to start the morning out anyhow.
One thing was a plus for Callie this morning, Charlee didn't wake up the clinger she just knew she was going to be and that gave her a little relief at the moment.
She was so glad because she really needed a large dose of caffeine to get this day started. But, before she could do that she turned the TV on for the little one to enjoy while she had coffee and prepared her breakfast.
While flipping through the channels to find Charlee something to immerse herself in for the next few minutes something caught Callie's eye.
A breaking news bulletin flashed over the screen of a local news station with a broadcaster announcing, "A plane out of Seattle vanished off the radar earlier this morning not long after takeoff. It is believed to have crashed in the mountains of Boise, Idaho. A retrieval team is on standby."
But, that wasn't what made Callie's world instantly dark.
What did that was reading the words "Flight 83 from Seattle to Boston has crashed.
Come to think about it the woman didn't even call her before she boarded.
At that realization the blood ran out of her face as a huge weight quickly formed in her chest. She felt like she couldn't breathe.
That was the only flight to Boston this morning.
That was Arizona's flight.
There was no way she'd be on another one.
Throwing the remote down she darted out the room and up the staircase in a panic in search of her phone.
Just as she dashed through the threshold of her bedroom her phone began to blare 'speechless' which lifted the heaviness but just slightly because that was Arizona's ringtone.
"Arizona," Callie yelled into the phone not even knowing if she had answered or not. "Arizona!" She exclaimed in fright.
"Calliope," she bellowed through the static sounding phone. "Callie," she said louder when she heard her wife's cry. "I'm not on the plane, okay! I'm not on the plane," she tried to ease her wife's worry. "I'm here. I am not on the plane," she said again as the phone cleared. "I'm still in Seattle."
"Arizona," she whispered feeling herself calm slightly as she realized her body was shaking from terror.
"I'm here, honey. I'm here and I'm okay."
"Promise," she whispered shutting her eyes tight when she realized tears were rolling down her face.
Callie knew Arizona hated to promise things since Erica's attack, but at dire times she would instill the things she needed.
"I promise, honey, I promise. I missed my flight."
"Oh, thank god!" She breathed a sigh of relief when realization finally sunk in after hearing it a few times. "I was so scared," she began to cry again when her adrenaline started to die down.
"I know, honey, I know. I called you as soon as I heard."
The last thing Arizona wanted was for Callie to be worrying right now.
"Arizona,"
"Calm down, okay," the blonde spoke again hearing the distraught voice on the other end of the line.
"I thought you were gone," she mumbled through tears.
"I'm fine, Calliope. I am here."
"Okay," she took a deep breath trying to calm herself. "Okay," she softly repeated a few times.
"How's Charlee?" She questioned trying to take both their minds off the events that had recently unfolded.
"Oh shit," Callie spat quickly heading out the room and down the stairs to check on the little girl only to find her in the corner of the family room surrounded by a pile of toys.
"She's okay," she sighed taking in a few short breaths. "Seems to be fine for now, she's already made a mess of the room."
"Yeah," Arizona laughed knowing her daughter had a tendency to be messy. "She seems fine, but what about my other girl? Are you okay, baby?"
"Yeah," Callie took another long breath and sat down on the couch to calm herself.
"Okay," she paused. "Listen, sweetie, I gotta go. I'll call you shortly, okay?"
"But..."
"I gotta go, babe."
"Call me back?" She replied noticing Arizona was acting a little more than strange.
"Love?"
"Love," Callie replied before the line went dead.
She didn't wanna hang up the phone with her wife right now. What she wanted was to see her smiling face shining at her in this moment, but hearing her voice would suffice for the moment.
After taking several more minutes to calm down from the scare, Callie finally made her way into the kitchen and prepared their breakfast.
Charlee was just finishing up with her oatmeal when Callie heard a knock at the door.
Quickly answering it, thinking it might be Arizona, she flung the door open only to see a woman standing at her door step with two dozen of light peach roses with sedum spread out in the bouquet along with a card.
"Calliope Iphigenia?"
"That's me," she chuckled at the use of her name. Arizona would always throw in her middle name when she wanted to be extra lovable.
Special delivery,"
"Thank you," she accepted the flowers and headed back into the kitchen in anticipation of reading the card.
"Calliope, they say that peach roses signify closing a deal, and stone crop flowers are said to be a cure for a broken or wounded heart.
Both of these will do just that for us, today.
Congratulations, sweetie!
Your one and only,
Arizona
P.s. You may not understand just yet, but you will as soon as your check your messages.
Love?"
"Down, Ma," Carlee kicked her feet and pounded on the tray getting her mother's attention after finishing her breakfast.
"Okay, okay," Callie placed the card on the counter and hurriedly pulled her daughter from her seat to clean her up a bit before she let her run loose.
The whole time she was cleaning Charlee's mess she tried to figure out the meaning behind her wife's statement. 'Both of those did just that today'. She didn't understand what kind of deal and heart ache she was talking about, so as soon as she finished with the little girl she quickly retrieved her phone from the family room.
Sitting down on the couch, she tapped the screen only to see a few missed texts from her wife, but before she could read any a video came through.
She couldn't help herself when she tapped the play button on the device.
"Okay, so,"
Callie watched as her wife's face came into view on the screen.
"I don't even know what I am really doing," she shrugged to the camera. "I'm nervous as hell and I just felt like I should get all this on camera," Arizona said as she stood in the bathroom holding her phone up recording herself.
"Callie and the baby are still sleeping. I am supposed to head to Boston in about an hour or so for a week long conference, but I have to do this before I leave." She stated. "I just have to know, and I know if I suggest taking a test to her she will flip out on me like last time. So, I'm having to take matters into my own hands this time," she shrugged.
"I've been noticing slight changes in Callie lately and the main one being her need for sleep. Now, my beautiful wife loves her sleep and is 100% down for a nap anytime it is offered, but this is completely different. I know something is up when I'm trying to get to third base with her and instead of a moan I hear a snore," she giggled into the phone.
"Arizona," she heard her wife knock on the door. "Hey!" Callie whispered.
"Oh shit," she turned to the door and froze in place as her eyes widened.
"What are you doing in there?"
"Hey," Arizona finally moved to answer her. "Hi, sweetie," she smiled.
"Who are you talking to?" She questioned, "and what the hell are you doing?"
"Oh, no one..." she paused, "just Teddy." Yea, that was so believable she thought as she internally rolled her eyes.
"It's six o'clock in the morning. Why in the world are you talking to her this early?"
"Making sure she has everything she needs for the week is all," Arizona stated. "I need to finish getting ready. Go back to bed, honey."
"I do not believe you but I am too tired to care right now."
"You are so cute," she tried to divert her attention. She didn't want Callie to know what she was up to at the moment.
"Keep it down. You are banging and a clanging and you're going to wake Charlee up. You know how she is when she doesn't feel well and I'd like to have her sleep a little more before she wakes up all cranky. So, knock it off."
See, this is exactly the reason she was hiding in their bathroom secretly taking a pregnancy test.
"She's not the only one that is going to be cranky today," Arizona whispered what she thought was under her breath.
"What was that?"
"Yes, dear."
"That's what I thought."
"Babe,"
"Yea,"
"I'm going to miss you, so much."
"Me too," she yawned.
"Go back to sleep, sweetie." Arizona watched a sleepy Callie lay back down and cuddle up to their daughter before shutting and locking the door back.
"Shit, that was close," she leaned against the closed door and took a deep breath before getting back to the task at hand.
"She totally lied to me," Callie laughed as she watched her wife's recording.
"Where was I," she questioned for a moment. "Oh, yea. What really got me was the fact that she fell asleep just a little while earlier when she brought a sick Charlee in our room. Normally Callie..." she spoke a little quieter when she continued. "She would be pacing that floor with that baby in her arms refusing to hand her over to me because she is such a worry wart when she isn't feeling well. But, not today. Today," she grinned. "Callie fell asleep sitting up in bed while I tried to sooth her for a moment."
"So, that's when I knew something wasn't quite right with my bride."
Callie watched and grinned every time the blonde shined her smile.
"So," she said slinging the bottom cabinet open while still continued filming. "It's time to test," she grabbed a box and held it up to the camera. "It's been almost four weeks since Valentine's Day, and I've noticed changes in her for over a week."
"Oh, my god," Callie rolled her eyes and shook her head when her wife flashed a pregnancy test on the screen. "How the hell do you expect to do this when I am not even there to take said test," she spoke as if she was actually talking to her wife and not her phone. "There's no fucking way it is even slightly possible," she denied but watched on.
"Ya know," the blonde propped the phone up on the sink so she could use both her hands to perform the next step. "Usually when Charlee ends up in the bed with us at night, which is a rarity, Callie refuses to flush the toilet because she's afraid she'll wake her up," Arizona continued as she nervously figited on the screen. "And," she rolled her eyes. "Who lets the yellow mellow? It drives me insane when she doesn't flush," she stated, "but not today." She grinned. "Today I couldn't be more ecstatic that she lets hers mellow," she ripped open the box.
"Oh, honey," Callie whispered covering her mouth as she watched her wife read the directions that came with the item. "This won't end well."
"Okay, so I know that this may not be the best way. The sample is definitely diluted, but it's still possible to read especially seeing it's best to test in the morning." She said collecting a few drops out of the toilet. "Ugh," she groaned almost getting some on herself. "I love you, Calliope, but if your pee drops on me."
Callie couldn't help but laugh when she watched her wife's pretend gag.
"Okay," she dropped three drops on the test and sat it near the camera she had propped up on the bathroom sink. "Three minutes. Three long agonizing minutes." She groaned and paced around the bathroom for no more than ten seconds.
"How the hell is the three minutes not up yet?" She questioned looking at the clock.
"It's not even been thirty seconds," Callie laughed as she watched Arizona pace around in a circle for a few more seconds before she grabbed the camera and sat down near the toilet as she waited for time to pass.
"I ah... I don't..." she sighed. "I don't know what this outcome will be," she admitted to the camera. "And, yeah maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but I-I know Callie is different. She's a bit more moody, tired, and I've seen some subtle changes in her body. And, really they are anything anyone would notice... except me." She stated. "And, there really isn't one certain thing that has changed it's just a culmination of things. She's just different." She stated.
"And, Callie,"
Callie looked into her lovers eyes as she said her name.
"When you watch this, cause good or bad I'll let you see it at some point, don't think these are bad changes I'm speaking of. They are not. They are good changes. Changes I have prayed to see in you for two years."
"God, if this is negative it will kill me." Arizona rested her head in her hand.
"But... for two years I have hoped," she paused. "For two years I have prayed... and, for two years I have waited," she nodded. "I have waited to see these changes in you and it's finally here, Calliope," she said getting a little misty eyed. "I must admit that it has caught me off guard because well... the mishap all over out kitchen counter," she laughed wiping a stray tear away. "But, being a doctor I know it's still possible. Yet, being realistic there isn't a big chance of a good outcome."
"Oh, honey," Callie sighed when Arizona's face went solemn.
"And, it will kill me," she shrugged with a sad look. "I've just... I-I..." she was having trouble putting her feelings into words.
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life. I've never felt this hopeful." She said seeing three minutes had turned into five. "And now that it is time I'm scared to look."
"Okay," she got up and took a huge breath. "If its negative I'm not gonna tell her I did this. At least not yet," she said sitting the phone back down on the counter and taking all the strength she had to not glance at the pregnancy test until the phone was set.
"Please God let this be good," she said a quick prayer before closing her eyes and picking up the test and taking a slow deep breath.
Callie watched her wife intently. It wasn't that she was anxious for the results because she knew it wasn't happening. But, watching Arizona's presence while recording this video had her on the edge of her seat as if she was watching a dramatic television show.
"Here we go," she quickly glanced at the camera before looking down the the stick in her hand.
Callie watched her wife slump her shoulders as if in defeat after staring at the test for several moments.
The brunette felt that pain all over again when she saw those blue eyes fill with tears before closing them tightly shut. "Babe," she sniffed wiping a tear away from her own eyes as she watched Arizona sink to her knees burying her head in her hands and sobbed at the reveal of the test results.
"I'm," Arizona simply shook her head and dropped the test leaving Callie to see nothing but her tear stained face before she covered it with her hands.
Callie's world was instantly crushed. She knew there wasn't any way she could be pregnant. But, seeing Arizona so heartbroken broke hers as well. Especially seeing that she couldn't comfort her in any way.
All Callie could do was watch on, so that is what she did. She cried along with wife for a what felt like several minutes until Arizona tried to take rein of some of her emotions and composed herself enough to pick the test back up.
Arizona wiped tears away as new ones formed. But, this time Callie saw something different in her blue eyes when she peered back into the camera.
She couldn't put her finger on it, but she it was there.
Arizona again looked down at the stick for several more moments until she looked back up to the camera while taking a huge breath before releasing it.
Clearing her throat, the blonde's voice finally rung out as a smile formed on her face. "She's pregnant," she echoed her voice full of emotion when she quickly moved the test up view of the phone so she could get it on film. "My wife is pregnant," she declared before she started crying all over again as she gazed at the object.
Bringing the stick back down she gazed in amazement at the object in her hand for several more seconds before she spoke up again.
"Oh my god," she lightly smacked her hand on her forehead and left it there as she tried to process what was happening. "Whaaaaat? I can't believe this." She spoke in awe.
"I have to do another," she quickly stood up. "I can't tell her until I am beyond a shadow of doubt certain that she is in fact pregnant," she said starting to perform another test.
"I have to figure out the perfect way to tell her."
Arizona's emotions were all over the place.
She had waited for this moment for so long.
So of course it took all she had not to burst out of the bathroom and shout it to Callie along with the world that they were pregnant.
However, she felt Callie deserved more. She wanted to surprise her wife somehow because Callie had always wanted that uh-oh moment and it was going to finally come to fruition.
She just needed to figure out a plan.
Waiting for the perfect time, Arizona slowly stepped inside the family room still unnoticed by her wife and daughter.
Arizona had timed this perfectly.
Right after she sent Callie the video she slowly crept into the house through the garage going completely unnoticed by anyone.
She wanted to witness Callie's initial reaction to the video. The brunette had waited her whole life for this moment and had accepted that it was never going to happen. But, now that it was Arizona wouldn't miss this for anything.
The blonde had been waiting hours for this moment and now that it was finally here she wanted to run up embrace her wife.
But, she waited. She waited for the perfect time to make herself known and when she saw her wife's confused face she couldn't help when a giggle escaped her lips.
"My wife is pregnant."
"What?" Callie quickly looked up to the noise after being engrossed in this video for so long. It was odd seeing her standing there in the doorway of the living room after watching her on the video. "Really?" She couldn't even comprehend that Arizona wasn't supposed to be here right now.
"Yes, Calliope," she nodded heading straight for her wife to engulfed her in a tight hug.
Callie's mind couldn't register what was happening.
Her mind was still reeling from the plane crash just a little while earlier and now that she was hit with the possibility that she was pregnant her brain just couldn't comprehend.
"No," she kept Arizona at arms length as she tried to wrap her mind around this. "That's... no," she shook her head in denial. She didn't want to get her hopes up and become excited like she had in the past. "What is going on?" She peered deep into her wife's blue eyes seeing nothing but honesty. "Arizona, seriously?" She breathed a hush whisper as tears welled up in her eyes.
Months ago she had come to accept the fact that she would never live this type of moment no matter how much she wanted to.
So, to say it was hard to understand much less accept was an understatement.
"Calliope," she dipped her hand into her back pocket and pulled out a few items she had been carrying around all morning. She knew this would convince her. "Baby," she held up four positive pregnancy tests. "You're pregnant."
"There... there's no way, Arizona," she took the tests from her to examine them. "It's impossible." She denied.
"Nothing's impossible, Calliope," she watched as her wife kept glancing down at the tests and back to her. "Not if you believe,"
"I'm... Arizona, I'm really pregnant?" She asked in awe even though the look of confusion still shown on her face.
"You are," the blonde barely got out before her wife threw herself in her arms in a tight embrace.
"We're having a baby," Arizona whispered in amazement when she felt her body rack with sobs.
No more words were said for the moment.
Arizona could only hug her harder when she felt her wife fall apart in her arms for a bit.
Callie lost it as soon as she felt warm arms wrap around her. The months and months of heartbreak and frustration immediately dissipated leaving her in a state of jubilation.
She felt nothing but complete and utter joy, but somehow doubt still found a way to creep in.
"Are you sure?" She sniffed burying her face into the blonde's neck as she continued to consoled her.
"Yes, sweetie I'm more than sure."
"I'm... pregnant?"
"Honey," Arizona finally pulled back from her when she felt Callie's arms loosen.
She understood why the brunette kept questioning her. Hell, she carried around the pregnancy tests all morning trying to let the news sink in herself.
"You," she cupped her tearstained cheeks as she peered into soulful brown eyes. "Are pregnant, my love,"
"How," she sighed in relief.
"I think you know how," Arizona smiled giving her lover a knowing glare.
"I know," she laughed through her tears. "But after everything we've tried... this works?"
"I know," she laughed. "You pushed most of it out, but not all, apparently."
"I can't stop crying," she said clinging onto her wife again.
"I know," Arizona nodded, "believe me, Calliope I've cried all morning," she laughed and kissed the brown hair that rested on her shoulder.
"I'm a mess," she pulled back from her embrace and wiped her eyes.
"After all the agonizing months we have endured over this," Arizona wiped her own eyes, "I believe we are both allowed to be a mess right now."
"You're gonna be mama again," Callie said in bewilderment.
"I sure am," she gently kissed salty red lips before slowly kneeling in front of her and traveled her hands down the sides of her wife's torso before resting them on her hips. "Hi, my sweet boy," she whispered to her stomach.
Callie's heart completely melted at the sight of Arizona talking to her belly.
"Mama has been dying to talk to you for hours," she whispered and planted a soft kiss through Callie's shirt. "But, I couldn't, you see," she stated glancing up to those chocolate brown eyes she loves so much. "Mommy didn't know about you yet," she grinned at her "so, I fought to keep my distance but just for a little while," she looked back to her wife's stomach. "Don't you worry my sweet man," she continued to talk to the baby as she felt the brunette run her fingers through her hair. "Mama will never do that again."
"Mama," Charlee squealed when she finally took her eyes off of the TV screen.
"Hey, my sweet girl," Arizona turned as the little toddler jumped into her arms while she was still knelt in front of her wife. "How are you feeling?" She kissed her on the forehead.
"I hungry," she pointed to her stomach.
"You just ate," Callie laughed at the two who were seated at her feet.
"It's okay, Mama brought everyone an early lunch," she grinned up at her wife when Charlee wiggled free. "You are eating for two now," she focused her attention back to the stomach before her. "We gotta make sure baby boy is getting plenty," she smiled rubbing the women's belly. "And, if I know your mommy, I bet she did not do anything but drink coffee all morning," she gave her a pointed glare.
"I haven't," she looked apologetic.
"No more," she insisted before pulling her shirt up to have a little more personal contact.
"Yes, I can hav..."
"No," she said sternly and planted an open mouth kiss just under her belly button. "We have waited forever for this and I don't want to jeopardize anything, so no, you will not be drinking coffee anymore."
"Arizona," she protested.
"It's not up for discussion."
"You are already so protective," Callie cupped her wife's cheeks and bent over to give her a kiss knowing the whole time she would win this battle at a later date.
"Of course I am," she gave her a soft smile. "I love you, and," she quickly grabbed the toddler that tried to run by her. "I love this one," she squeezed her and placed a kiss atop her head. "And, I'm already head over hills in love with him," she kissed her wife's stomach once more causing Charlee to do the same after watching her mama.
"Lub,"
"Aww, bug," Callie leaned down taking her daughter into her arms. "Love, sweet girl," she kissed her cheek as blue eyes stared on.
Now it was Arizona's heart that melted yet again today.
"You guys are just the cutest," she planted one more kiss on the tone stomach before quickly standing and embracing all three of them. "I love you," she whispered into the brunette's ear as the two year old wiggled down.
"We love you," she cupped her own stomach for the first time when Arizona loosened her hold.
"How are you feeling?" She questioned placing a kiss on her temple and a hand on top of hers still on her belly. "Any better?"
"Still not the best, but not complaining if this is the reason."
"I'm sure it is."
"Yea," she agreed. "Wait," her mind was starting to clear. "What are you doing here? Are you not going to Boston?" She finally registered that Arizona shouldn't be here at the moment.
"Do you actually think I'd fly all the way across the the country away from my newly pregnant wife when I've been trying to get her with child for years?"
"No," she confessed her face slightly reddened with a blush.
"Exactly," she stated.
"That was a lot of money though."
"I had every intention of going to Boston today, until I saw two lines on that little stick," she shook her head still in awe. "No amount of money in the world would have took me away from you right now."
"So why did you leave us?"
"Because I wanted to pick up more pregnancy tests and surprise you. I knew if I didn't get away for a little bit that I'd ruin the surprise."
"You bought more tests?" She questioned hoping it were true. She believed her wife, but she wanted to test to see for herself.
"Of course," she said motioning towards the kitchen. "I was in the pharmacy when I saw the news about the..." she paused not wanting to talk about that subject right now. "You know,"
"Yea,"
"So, I called you immediately. The last thing I needed was you fretting about me and putting your body in distress."
"That's why you were so short with me."
"Yea," she laughed. "I was dying to tell yo..." she tried but was quickly cut off mid sentence.
"What in the... Arizona," she scolded when they walked into the kitchen and she saw another bouquet of flowers sitting on the table.
"What?" She grinned and picked up the flowers and handed then to her wife. "Congratulations,"
"Thank you," she lifted them to her nose and inhaled the sweet scent of the gerbera daisy. "My favorite."
"I know," she grinned. "Now, let's feed squirt,"
"Squirt?" She laughed a bit thrown off.
"Yep," she nodded placing the takeout she brought home for her wife on the counter. "I squirted him in... you tried to squirt him out."
"Arizona Michelle!" She gasped in shock. She didn't know why she was surprised at her wife's words because it was definitely something she'd come up with.
"Michelle," Charlee came running into the kitchen where her mothers stood. "Hungry."
"My name is Mama!" She swooped the child up and planted a kiss on her cheek before settling her in for an early lunch.
"There you are," Callie squinted in the darkness when she found Arizona seated in the treehouse with her legs dangling over the side. "I thought you were coming to bed?" She stood there crossing her arms to keep the cool night air at bay.
"I am in a minute,"
Callie looked up to her wife who was staring off into the bay. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing,"
"Liar," she shot back and grabbed ahold of the bottom rung of the ladder.
She could tell Arizona's mind was somewhere else. But, with all of the happenings of the day she couldn't determine what direction she was leaning towards.
"Don't you dare," Arizona spoke up when she saw her wife move to climb up.
Despite being elsewhere she was aware of every move the brunette made today and there was no way she was gonna allow this.
"What?" She questioned grabbing on.
"Callie, don't," her mind instantly thinking of the worst case scenario in this situation. "You can't do things like climbing a tree anymore. What if you slip?" She quickly got up as the woman climbed the ladder anyway.
"I'm fine,"
The whole time Callie climbed up the treehouse Arizona's insides were doing somersaults.
"You can't do the things you are used to right now," the blonde protested. "We have come too far to jeopardize this," she pointed towards her stomach.
"Okay," she said finally meeting her wife up in the tree. "I won't come up here anymore after tonight," she said noticing Arizona's eyes seemed to be slightly redden.
"Good," she sighed sitting back down in her spot overlooking the bay.
She hadn't even noticed Callie had sat down beside her until the woman spoke again breaking her of her thoughts.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" She placed a hand on her knee after studying the woman's profile a few moments.
She could tell something was bothering her.
"I'm fine," she said flatly still staring out into the harbor.
"Arizona," she sighed knowing damn well she was wasn't being honest and failing miserably at hiding it.
"Please, just... leave it," she asked her. She needed to talk about it but she didn't wanna bring it up right now. Today had been the day they've prayed for for so long and she didn't wanna get outwardly upset over what was eating at her.
"Babe," she whispered brushing a few strands of hair out of her face that had fallen from of her hair tie. "Talk to me." She knew that look on Arizona's face. The woman was trying her best to hold herself together.
"I..." she shook her head and finally chanced a glance at her wife. "I'm just a little rattled is all."
"How come?"
"Well," she breathed knowing Callie wouldn't just leave it so it was best to just get it out now and over with. "The pregnancy news has had me on cloud 9 all day," she looked up the night sky collecting herself before smirking at her wife. She couldn't seem to take the grin off her face every time she thought about or looked at Callie today. "It has had my mind occupied the whole day."
"Mine too," she grabbed the blonde's hand and laid it in her lap with her own. She could tell the woman needed a little contact even though she wasn't initiating.
"But, now that we've had time to let it sink in I can't help but think about that plane crash this morning."
"Honey," Callie sighed seeing her quickly wipe away a tear. "You are okay," she brought their joined hands to her mouth and placed a soft tender kiss on her knuckles.
"Thankfully," she then looked up at soulful brown eyes with tears in her own. "But," she swallowed facing her fear head on. "I was gonna die today, Callie."
"No," she shook her head in denial. She didn't believe that.
"I was," she insisted. "I was," she quickly focused her vision back towards the water before she burst out in tears.
"But, you didn't," she reminded her, "you are here with me."
All Arizona could do was shake her head in denial. "If you hadn't fallen asleep on that bed this morning, Calliope... things would be so different right now."
"No,"
"Yes, I wouldn't have thought anything about taking that test," she said finally turned her body to the woman beside her. "I wouldn't have known you were pregnant, and I would have got on that plane and I would have died, Callie. I would have died never knowing I was gonna be a mom again," she said with tears now trailing down her cheeks.
"Please, don't think like that, honey," she insisted. "God had other plans for us. You are here because he knows I wouldn't be able to do this without you," she spoke seeing all Arizona did in return was yet another head shake.
"After we conceived Charlee," she continued trying to get the blonde to understand. "You said we had that miscarriage because she was meant to be our first, didn't you."
"Yea," she answered as Callie wiped away her tears that fell.
"And, I'm telling you now this baby was meant to be, too," she nodded cupping the women's cheeks and planting a light kiss on her forehead. "If nothing but save you today." She truly believed that.
"He did," she whispered trusting her wife's words.
"He?" She chuckled at her wife's response. "You are so hell bent on it being a boy," she chuckled.
"Yep, it's a he," Arizona grinned her best megawatt smile she could at the moment and cupped her wife's stomach. "You're pregnant," she said still in awe, and also hoping to drop the subject and bask in their happiness instead of letting the what ifs eat away at her.
"I'm pregnant!" Callie echoed her wife's words and placed her hand atop of the blonde's before seeking out a kiss.
"Congratulations," Arizona rubbed her belly gently.
"Feels like I'm dreaming," this time it was Callie's turn to give her best grin.
"How about I show you this isn't a dream?"
"How do you plan on doing that?" She questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"I have my ways," she leaned into the woman and slowly lowered them both to the ground.
"Wait..." she cradled Arizona's face in her hands. "Are you okay?" She questioned looking deep into blue eyes seeking the truth.
"I'm here with you," she tugged the shirt covering her wife's stomach up just enough to expose her belly. "Aren't I?" She caressed the skin before her.
"In the flesh," she smiled.
"Then," she nodded, "I am okay."
"I promise not to fall asleep this time," Callie changed the subject when it seemed that her wife was okay. "Scouts honor," smirked as the blonde hovered above her.
"That would be in your best interest," she whispered brushing her pink lips against red ones before going in for a slow sensual kiss.
