As always it's poorly edited but it is what it is. Sorry.

Chapter 13

"You sure," Arizona whispered leading Callie by the small of the back later that afternoon.

"Yea," the woman confirmed as she walked out the back door of her in-laws home leaving her wife standing on the patio.

Arizona knew she may be hovering a little much recently, but lately with the pregnancy and all she felt the need to keep an eye on Callie at all times.

They had tried and tried to get pregnant for so long. And, now that she was with child she just wanted to make sure everything went as smooth as possible which caused her to feel a little overbearing at times.

However, Callie never once complained about it.

"Hey sweetie," Barbara glanced up at her daughter when she came near.

"Hi, Mama," Arizona signed flopping down in the chair beside the woman.

"Everything okay?" She questioned.

"Yeah, everything is fine," she promised as she watched Callie take a seat in the grassy yard.

"Callie okay?"

"Yeah, she's fine," she stated.

She had just returned from following her wife into the bathroom for the second time since enjoying their Easter dinner at her parents house.

"She's looking a little pale."

"She's not been feeling well recently and I'm just trying to keep a close watch on her is all." Arizona wasn't ready to tell anyone about the pregnancy just yet.

They wanted to wait until after their first doctor's appointment to make sure everything was alright before they spilled the beans to their parents.

"Must be something going around. Your father hasn't been feeling the best either," Barbara stated watching her husband help Charlee scavenge their yard to find the last hidden Easter egg.

"Yeah, he isn't himself today," she agreed watching Charlee run to her other mother and happily throw herself in her lap with the newly found egg in hand.

"He says he feels tired."

"Yea," Arizona whispered her reply as she watched her wife and daughter converse with laughter on the ground as they opened the plastic eggs and retrieved the candy from inside. "So has Cal, but she'll be fine."

Her wife wasn't letting morning sickness phase her joy of being pregnant and she was thankful of that. She knew Callie wanted to spend more quality time with their first born before the new baby arrived.

The night they found out they were pregnant Callie informed her she wanted to spend as much time with Charlee as she could before their family of three turned into four.

And, even though Callie was staying sick, the view before her brought a smile to her face.

She could already see even more changes in her wife's body as of late.

Even though Charlee was placed on her lap she could already see Callie's belly starting to pooch out through her shirt, and she couldn't find it any more adorable than she did.

They've only known for a short time but her dreams of Callie's pregnancy were already coming true. She couldn't wait to see her wife walking around with her hair in a messy bun, and the soft sun kissed skin of her belly that protected their baby poked out from underneath a tight shirt.

She knew it was going to be such a sight to behold and she couldn't wait for that day.

So yeah, the view of the brunette's newly changing body brought out her dimpled smile every time her eyes wondered to her.

That image made Arizona want to roam her hands all over her wife's body.

"Well, mama, we appreciate the dinner, but I think it's time to gather my family up and head home."

"So soon?"

"We've been here half the day, mom," Arizona chuckled. "Plus, it's Cal's birthday and Charlee and I are wanting to spend a little time with her and surprise her with a cake," she finished while standing from her seat. "Thank you for hosting, mama," Arizona bent down and hugged her mother.

"You're welcome, dear. You know how your father and I love family time on the holidays," Barbara returned the sentiment.

"I love spending it with you both, too, mama," she kissed the woman's cheek. "Love you,"

"Love you, too, dear," the older woman stated as she watched her daughter walk out into the yard towards her family.

"Hey, you two," Arizona sat down beside her two girls. "Are you about ready to go?"

"I don't know," Callie smiled glancing down to her daughter, "Are you ready to go home, bug?"

"Duckies home," she shot up from her place in her mothers lap and ran towards the patio where Barbara was still seated.

"Maw, duckies,"

"I think we are ready if you are," she giggled watching Charlee yell and run up to her grandmother and give her hugs.

"I am," she stated but didn't move. She found it hard to pull her eyes away from the woman by her side.

"What," Callie let out a soft laugh when she noticed Arizona staring at her from the corner of her eye.

"Nothing," she paused with a shrug. "I just-I can't keep my eyes off you," she spoke truthfully when Callie arched an eyebrow prodding her to continue.

"Why," she shook her head oblivious to the blonde's emotions. "I am okay," she stated knowing and loving that Arizona kept a close watch on her lately.

"I know, It's just-I haven't seen you this happy in a long time," she stated as her eyes mesmerized her lovers face before resting her orbs back on the chocolate ones before her. Through so much turmoil in trying to conceive she hadn't realized how un-Callie like her wife had been until she was shining again. She was glad to see the happy-go-lucky side of her back. "It looks good on you."

"I've always been happy,"

"Callie," she retorted knowing neither one of them had been truly, out of this world, happy again until recently.

"I've always been happy with you," she corrected with a gentle smile.

"Me too," she grabbed the brunette's hand and laid a kiss on top. "Guess what,"

"What,"

"My vision has come true right in front of my very eyes."

"What vision,"

"Knocking you up," she grinned causing Callie to laugh and playfully shove her away. "I just love you, both of you, so much," she grabbed onto the woman too keep from falling back. "You know that, right?"

"Yes," she barely whispered when Arizona inched closer to her, "we love you just as much," she breathed against pink lips before laying a soft kiss on them.

"Lets go home. We'll have bath time and then I'll read a bedtime story to our girl," she suggested, "after, I'll read one to my boy," she cradled the brunette's stomach in her hand. "And then I can give you your birthday present."

"You got me a present?" She grinned pecking pink lips again.

"Yep,"

"But I said I didn't want anything this year. You've already given me more than enough," she placed her hand on top of the paler one that still cradled her stomach.

"Nothing is ever too much for you or the babies,"

"The babies," she grinned.

"Our babies," she pecked red lips before hauling herself and Callie up off the grass.

"Keep your eyes closed, mommy," Arizona excitedly said as she helped Charlee with the little surprise they planned for the surgeon.

"Okay," she sang from her seat in the dinning room.

Arizona had informed her as soon as they returned home that she and Charlee had worked up a surprise so she needed her to stay outta the kitchen for a bit. And then, just a minute earlier her she had instructed Callie to take a seat at the table.

"Tell me when," she smiled while her hands covered her eyes.

"Wanna start, big girl," the blonde lifted the surprise off the counter and bent down to her daughter's level so she could help.

"Open your eyes, Calliope," she whispered when they moved in place in front of her.

"Happy Birfay, ma," Charlee belted out singing her own rendition of the happy birthday song before brown eyes could even peek open.

"What is this," she opened her eyes and immediately smiled when she saw Arizona knelt down to their daughters level as they both held on to a cake and sang Charlee's version of the song.

The sight before her brought tears to her eyes. She didn't mean for them to spring forth but she couldn't control them after seeing the surprise her family prepared just for her.

"Damn hormones," she laughed while wiping her face and blowing the single candle out after she had been sung to.

"Ahhhh," the toddler gasped quickly looking towards her mama when she heard that word.

"That isn't a nice word is it, Charlee," Arizona questioned with a laugh before looking lovingly towards her emotional wife. She knew the gesture meant a lot to Callie, but she also knew she wouldn't have normally cried at the sentiment. So, it was safe to say it was definitely the hormones affecting her.

"Noooo," she now shook her head and finger at her brown haired mother. "Time ooout,"

"We will let it slide just once," Arizona suggested. "It's her birthday."

"Birfay, ma," she let go of her almost nonexistent hold on the platter the blonde was holding and jumped into Callie's embrace throwing her arms around her neck.

"Thank you soooo much, baby," Callie returned her daughter's hug before placing a kiss on the side if her head, all the while, throwing a wink towards Arizona to let her know that the loving gesture was greatly appreciated. "What kinda cake is that?"

"Peanut butter with peanut butter icing,"

"Seriously," she questioned as tears welled up in her eyes yet again.

"Of course," Arizona finally sat the cake down on the table and moved cup her wife's face. "I know peanut butter is the one thing you can keep down," she breathed before placing a gentle kiss on her forehead and then wiping the tears out of her eyes.

"Thank you, babe."

"You're welcome, honey," she kissed waiting red lips.

"Arizona, that was the best birthday cake I have ever had," Callie admitted as she pulled the duvet back from the bed before sliding in beside the warm body already present.

"Oh, yea," the blonde questioned with a smile while closing her journal.

She had been waiting on her wife to return to their room after checking on their daughter only to hear the woman veer downstairs instead.

"Mmhmm,"

"I can tell," Arizona watched her wife get comfortable before she leaned over and brushed the icing off the corner of the brunette's lips before licking the treat off her finger. "Delicious,"

Laughing, Callie stated, "I think I ate too much." She admitted scooting closer to her wife. "I ate half of that cake myself," she said still in shock, "I'm such a fat ass."

"No you're not," she laughed when the brunette snuggled up to her side. "And don't say that."

"What would you call it then,"

"Pregnant," Arizona placed the journal on her nightstand and slid down in the bed beside her. "Sweetie, you've even lost a few pounds lately. That isn't good," she said sympathetically before lying her head on Callie's pillow. "You can't keep a lot of stuff down... and yeah," she continued, "it isn't the best choice because you and my baby need more nutrients, but at least it didn't make you sick," she finished wrapping herself around the brunette.

They wouldn't be able to do this much longer so she wanted to make sure she had her feel of it until then.

"Your baby," she prodded loving how close Arizona already felt towards their unborn child.

"You are both my babies," she corrected while placing a gentle hand on the side brunette's stomach.

"That we are," she whispered before becoming quiet in her wife's warm embrace.

However, Arizona could tell Callie was fighting to voice something.

"What's going through that beautiful head?" Arizona could tell she wasn't saying something.

After biting the bottom of her lip she finally confessed, "I'm really wanting that last piece.

All the blonde could do was laugh at her statement. She was just happy that it was the first thing Callie had ate today that sat well with her stomach.

"I'll go get it for you if you want," she leaned over and kissed red lips.

"Would you?" She reciprocated the affection.

"Say the word," she whispered before sweeping her tongue over the surgeon's bottom lip.

"I wanna eat you first," Callie accepted the woman's warmth into her mouth causing her to take control and push her down on the bed before hovering.

"Good choice," Arizona hummed when Callie started kissing her way down her neck. "Mmmm..."

"You may have to make me another cake tomorrow," Callie suggested finishing the last bite while remnants of the dessert were sprawled all over her silk robe.

The couple had just finished a round of birthday sex and both decided they worked up an appetite for the sweet treat.

"Make me come like that again and I just might," Arizona replied with a wink as she licked off the excess icing she had scrapped onto her fork.

She could tell the brunette was eyeing her so she decided to give her a little something to gawk at.

"You are doing that purposely," Callie glared at the woman when she noticed the glint in her wife's eye.

"What?" She played.

"You know what," Callie shook as a cool chill shivered down her spin while she watched the woman methodically run her tongue over the prongs of the utensil until she was practically drooling.

All Arizona could do was giggle when she saw the lustful look in her lovers eyes. She knew she was getting to her. "Happy birthday, beautiful," she dropped the fork only to place her hands on the sides of the brunette's stomach once she stepped closer. "I hope you enjoyed your day," she breathed before placing a tender kiss on her forehead and gently caressing the woman's skin.

She had really tried to make this day special for Callie. She knew the woman had been having a rough start with her pregnancy so she wanted to try to alleviate some of that if only for a bit.

"Thank you," she gratefully replied with a kiss before going in for an embrace. "I had a great day," she continued. "And thank you so much for my 'mommy to be' necklace. It's the second best gift you've given me."

"What's the first?"

"I think you know," she placed the palm of her hand on the tummy. "Thank you for today. It means so much." she finished just as their child's whimper came from upstairs.

"You're welcome,"

"I'll check her," Callie finished just as one of their phones began blared through the air, startling the duo. "It's after ten. Who would be calling this late?" She questioned while backing out of the kitchen.

"It's daddy,"

"You answer that," she stopped when she heard the light whimper turn into a soft cry. "Then meet me upstairs," she winked, "I'm not finished with you just yet," she finished before quickly making her way upstairs.

There would no better way to end a birthday than screaming her wife's name one last time before cuddling up in bed for the night.

Callie slowly shut the nursery door a little over halfway after walking out of Charlee's room, anxious to get back to her, hopefully, nude wife.

The whole time she was trying to sooth her daughter she couldn't get her naked wife off her mind even though she tried to push it out because the little girl woke up due to her blanket being kicked off in her sleep.

She was just like her mama in that sense; if she got the slightest chill she would wake up cranky.

So after a little rocking and a soft song, sung by her mother she was out again, thankfully.

Callie was tired. She never realized how simply being pregnant was so exhausting in itself and she had many more months to go.

So, needless to say, she was ready for bed but that need would wait. She wanted to experience the high only her wife could give her and nothing was gonna get in her way.

Or, so she thought.

That idea was quickly out the window when she first heard, then saw, an almost naked Arizona frantically throwing clothes all over their bedroom floor.

"Wha..." she stopped when she heard her mumble to herself as she flung garments behind her back.

This was the last thing she expected to see.

What she had hoped her eyes landed on when she turned to corner to their bedroom was Arizona spread out on the bed possibility having her way with herself while waiting on her return. But, unfortunately this was a side of her she had never seen.

"Whoa..." she demanded the room. "Hey..." she yelped letting her presence be known.

"Callie," she quickly turned with a ragged breathed when she heard the familiar voice she loved.

When the surgeon heard her wife's meek voice she quickly made her way over because she knew from the pitch of her tone she was about to lose control.

"Hey... hey," she tried when she saw the panic look on her face. She quickly opened her arms without hesitation as the blonde flung herself into her embrace. She had never seen Arizona so distraught before.

She knew something was off as soon as the woman before her turned and locked solemn eyes with hers.

"Calliope," she faintly whispered finally letting her grief out as she wrapped her arms around her wife's back.

Under the shelter of Callie's arms was the only place she felt safe enough to let her worries go.

She knew she needed to quickly dress and be on the way to the hospital, but she needed to feel the security of her wife first. She had to gather strength to be able to deal with what was ahead.

"Baby," she comforted her, "what's wrong?" She questioned when she felt the blonde turn her face into her neck while the body in her arms begin to tremble which only made her squeeze her tighter.

Arizona couldn't answer.

"Talk to me, honey," she persisted when she felt Arizona's tears trail down her neck.

But all she could do was shake her head to clear her thoughts long enough to check on their daughter.

"Charlee?" She quavered finally pulling back slightly from the surgeon's hold. "She... she okay?" She questioned not wanting to voice her reality out loud just yet.

Callie could clearly see the distraught look on her wife's face.

Something definitely wasn't right.

"Hey," she grabbed Arizona's hands to still her. The body before her seems to be shaking uncontrollably.

"She okay?"

"She's fine, Arizona," she dismissed. "What is wrong," demanded needing answers, "you are scaring me."

Arizona went to open her mouth. She wanted, no, she needed, to tell Callie but words didn't seem to spill forth. "I..." she fought to speak but she just couldn't bring herself to say it. "I-my..."

"Baby," she cupped the woman's face in hopes of getting her to calm under her touch.

Arizona quickly shut her eyes tight when she felt the tender cradling of her face by her lover.

"Tell me, Arizona," she softly brushed her thumbs over her stained cheeks, coaxing her to speak after she saw tears slip out yet again from behind those tightly closes eyelids.

Arizona was breaking her heart and she had no clue what was even going on.

"My dad," she sniffed grabbing Callie's wrists to steady herself. "My mom said," she paused taking a deep breath before finally opening her eyes.

Under the thoughtful watch of Callie's touch was the only place she could voice her concern, so with a ragged breath she finally spoke. "My dad-he... had a... heart attack," her voice cracking just as a sob came out of nowhere.

"Oh, god," she felt their world crashing down as she quickly dropped her hands from her wife's face and embraced her yet again. "It'll be okay, honey," she said feeling Arizona's body wrack with cries. "It's okay," she consoled her, "it's okay." Callie kept repeating over and over trying to convince herself as well.

"We... we need to go," she breathed into the familiar comfort of her wife's neck after a beat. "I know it's late but can you call Teddy and Henry... see if-if they can keep Charlee. I don't want to drag her to the hospital this late," she pulled back to gaze into soulful brown eyes while trying to regain her composure. "I need you." She clung to her wife like she was her lifeline. "I need you with me."

"I'm here," she smoothed her silky blonde hair when Arizona clung to her again. "I'm right here."

"I don't know his condition," she let loose of her tight hold her had on the slightly taller woman and just leaned into her embrace. "My mom called from the ambulance."

"He'll be fine," she pulled back and grabbed her by her shoulders. "I'll call Cristina, too," she ducked her head to entice the woman to look up at her. "She's the best at what she does, honey, she will take care of your dad," Callie insisted.

"Okay," she nodded feeling a little better knowing Cristina would take the best care of her father. "Okay," she wiped her tear stained cheeks dry before turning to get ready.

"Get dressed, okay," she suggested caressing the small of her back. Arizona definitely couldn't rush off to the hospital in a robe. "I'll take care of everything else," she finished mentally making a list of things to do before they could leave.

"Arizona," Callie came back from packing Charlee a quick overnight bag for her stay with her aunt. "Teddy said that she'd come an..." she stopped mid sentence when she walked into their room once again seeing her wife bent over on the bed crying into her hands. "Baby," she sighed quickly rushing to the bed and climbing in to hold her wife. "Let's not worry yet, okay," she whispered as the woman clung to her.

"Owen ca-called," she tried to catch a breath between cries. "He said Cristina is out of town. She-she's away on another case. She can't get back for a few days, Callie."

"Damn it," she signed into blonde hair as she rocked Arizona in her arms. She had paged the woman minutes earlier. Now she knew why she hadn't gotten a quick response.

"It's okay," Callie continued. "That's okay, the chief can get ahold of Erica. She's the next best..." she hurriedly suggested but caused Arizona to immediately jerk out of her arms at the mention of the woman. "Thing," she threw her a confused look until she finally realized what she said. "Oh, God," she breathed as she placed her head in her hands knowing what she did.

She wasn't groaning because Arizona shied away. She was cursing herself because she knew better. She couldn't believe Erica even popped in her mind, not after everything she had put her family through.

"Are you kidding me right now?" Arizona flinched as she quickly stood from the bed. "Seriously, Callie," she couldn't help when an appalling chuckle escaped her mouth.

"Arizona," she jumped from the bed as well. "I didn't..." she tried to defend but she was quickly cut off.

"What the hell, Callie,"

"I wasn't thinking," she reached for the blonde's hands but the doctor quickly moved further away from her grasp.

"Is that how you see her?" She glared into worried brown eyes. "Is it?" She questioned louder as Callie stood frozen in her spot with her mouth agape. "Answer me," she yelled after a long pause.

"No," Callie answered simply. She honestly wasn't thinking.

At one time Erica was the next best thing to Yang, but now she was nothing in her eyes.

"Yes, you do," she scoffed at herself. "Why else would you say her name off the top of your head?"

"I'm worried just like you. I only blurted it out because she used to be..."

"You see her as the next best thing to Cristina Yang," Arizona stated finishing her wife's sentence.

"At one time when we were friends, yes she was just as good as Yang," she answered truthfully. She wasn't going to lie about it. "I didn't mean anything by it, Arizona."

She watched as the blonde blinked back fresh tears. She knew Erica was a sore subject for her, for them. But years ago Erica was the best and it just escaped her mind because all she was thinking about was Daniel and his wellbeing.

"I slipped up," she admitted seeing the woman recoil yet again. "I'm sorry... I-I,"

"Wha..." she breathed. "You're sorry?"

Arizona backed away yet again from the other distraught woman. She could see the look of surprise in Callie's face but she didn't care right now. She couldn't believe that in her time of need Erica would be the first name her wife would blurt out. "Sorry,"

"Yes," Callie chanced a step closer. She didn't like the fact that her wife was acting repulsed by her.

"She..." Arizona stopped tightly clenching her mouth shut. She was trying her best not to get mad, but with everything going on she couldn't help herself. "She tried to kill me and steal our daughter," her voice rising higher and higher with every word that come out.

"I know," she said softly trying to get Arizona to calm down. The last thing they needed was to wake their sleeping child. "I know,"

"How in the world could you ever think of her as anything but what she really is," she questioned as she struggled not to cry.

"I-I wasn't thinking."

"Noo," Arizona shook her head. "That's the problem, Callie, you weren't thinking, and you sure as hell weren't thinking about me when you blurted that bitches name out."

Callie could see the hurt in Arizona's eyes as the woman before her dropped her head in her hands and let out a cry.

"Honey, I was thinking about your dad and a list of doctors, nothing more. I went into doctor mode. You are familiar with that," she tried to make her understand. "You do it yourself." She knew Arizona was overreacting to the situation because the state of her father so she was trying not to get too emotional herself.

Normally, they would have fault at the mention of Erica's name regardless, but she knew she was all defensive because Arizona was scared. She understood that which is why she tried to calm her down.

"Babe, please," she reach out to grab her shoulders trying to see if she would wince at her touch again. "I'm sorry," she said when she realized Arizona wasn't gonna turn her away again. "I'm so sorry," she whispered pulling her into her arms again as the woman cried into her chest.

"We really need to get going," she said after a few moments of Arizona falling apart.

The blonde knew that was true, but only part of it.

"No," Arizona pulled back and spoke softly with a shake of her head. "No," she said again but with more authority.

"Yes," Callie wrinkled her brow at the statement.

"We don't need to do anything," she stated as Callie grabbed onto her wrists. She knew the woman was only trying to console her with her touch. "I need to go be with my parents."

"I'm going with you," she said just as Arizona jerked her hands out of her grip.

"No."

"Yes, I am," Callie wasn't backing down. "You just said you needed me with you. I know you well enough to know that didn't change because I said Erica's name."

"I can do this alone," she shook her head.

"I know you can, but you don't have to. I don't want you to do this alone."

"Well maybe you should have thought about that before you decided to breathe the name of the woman who tried to kill me," she said quietly.

"Arizona, stop it," now it was Callie's turn to be stern. Again, she knew she was upset and sometimes said things she normally wouldn't say during trying events, but she wasn't gonna let her do this. "I told you I was sorry."

"I know," she took a deep breath after realizing how malicious she thought she sounded. "I know."

"So can we just..." she paused to take a ragged breath before finishing, "go,"

Arizona swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat during their argument.

"I've wasted enough time already. I have to go," she grabbed the sweats she had tossed on the bed.

"Arizona, no," she watched the woman quickly dress.

"Please," she turned to face her wife. She knew if she didn't voice this Callie would show up at the hospital within the hour. It pained her to even voice her next statement because she knew it was a huge mistake. But yet, after taking a deep breath she finished "don't follow me, Callie," with a soft whisper before walking out the door.

As Arizona made her way down the stairs all she could hear was a faint cry from her wife followed by one from their daughter.

She felt heaviness in her chest for possibly waking her child up with their argument. She didn't want to leave with both her girls crying, but she had to go.

Her father needed her more.
