Bennett and Salvatore: Murder on the Atlantic

Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Diaries or take any credit for it

Tyler Lockwood lay dead on the floor of the bar. His body lay in the middle of the room with a pool of blood around his head. Lockwood's lifeless eyes were still open- staring into death. His face looked very surprised indeed, almost like he couldn't believe who the murderer was. Unfortunately, his will take that secret to his grave. It was six in the morning and the cleaner saw the slain man- and ran to her boss.

When Stefan learned of this latest disaster, he immediately informed his brother and Bonnie. Damon didn't look pleased at being woken up so early, and neither did Bonnie. But their complaints were silenced when they saw the body in the bar. Both of them looked shocked at the latest turn of events. It looks like they've got another murder to solve. The air was unbelievably humid today as the peak of summer was upon them.

"Is anyone else getting a sense of Déjà vu?" Damon commented drily.

"Did anyone see what happened?" Bonnie wondered.

"Not that we've sussed yet" Stefan answered her.

"He was murdered by bullet wound, just like the other victim" Bonnie noticed.

She knelt down to get a better view of the body. The bullet was right in the middle of his forehead. Bonnie took out the bullet with some tweezers she had in her pocket. The bullet was suited for a smaller hand held weapon. This kind of gun that was very easy to conceal. She also noticed a piece of paper rammed in his mouth. Bonnie frowned and picked it up- it was a bible quote that had been ripped out of his. It said: 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth'.

"Read this" Bonnie told Damon, as she handed him the blooded bible quote.

Damon looked revolted at what had been rammed in that guy's mouth.

"Someone wanted to send a message" Elijah remarked from behind them.

Elijah and Elena had arrived on the scene.

"The only question is who?" Bonnie responded.

"We need to question them all again" Elena suggested.

"While you do that I will telegram Scotland Yard about Elena and Elijah. I will also find out anything about the murder victims".

"Thanks baby bro" Damon tapped him on the shoulder, "We really appreciate your help on this"

Stefan nodded and left the room. They'd brought the same make-shift fingerprint kit, but decided that doing that in a bar was pointless. So they studied the body, Mr Lockwood was shot in the heart. Different from that last victim.

Was there more than one killer?

The surviving suspects had been gathered into salon. Kol was looking smug, Davina looking happy, Enzo curious, Klaus and Caroline looking concerned and Lady Katherine looked pale.

"Tyler Lockwood has been murdered" Damon announced.

Klaus was beginning to look bored and he kept giving his elder brother filthy looks. Caroline was intrigued while Enzo was looking suicidal again. Kol looked surprised while Davina's expression was neutral. Katherine simply seemed like he was going to be sick again.

"We need to interview you all again immediately" Bonnie ordered.

Another groan chorused around the room, this time they started with Kol.

"Where were you last night?" Damon questioned.

"In my room" Kol answered.

"Doing what?" Bonnie asked.

"Sleeping" Kol shrugged.

Damon decided that this was the right moment to question him about the money he was getting from Katherine.

Elijah and Elena were there too.

"Hello brother" Kol greeted scornfully.

"Just sit down Kol and answer the questions" Elijah told him stiffly.

Both of the brothers were looking at each other scornfully until Kol sat down.

"I saw you taking some money from Lady Katherine and we found the evidence in your room" Damon told him.

A flicker of worry came to life in his face for a brief second before it was replaced by his usual smugness.

"Lady Katherine owes me a gambling debt and she refuses to pay" Kol said smoothly.

Bonnie instincts told her that this was a lie, for one thing she's never heard of Lady Katherine being in any debt. Secondly it was the way he said it that just seemed untruthful to her. So she decided to quiz him further about it.

"Tell me more about it" Bonnie ordered.

"Well I own a casino in Vegas and she used to play there all time. She ran up a very high debt so I came on this boat to make sure I get paid"

Kol seemed too satisfied with his answer, almost as if he had just made all this up. Bonnie decided not pursue it for the moment. Although she was certainly going to bring it up when she interviewed Katherine.

"Did you know Tyler Lockwood?" Damon asked.

"No" he told them confidently.

With no more questions to ask him, Kol was let go.

"He certainly owns a casino" Elijah said, "But I always know when he's lying and he certainly lied about why he demanded the money off of Katherine"

"Is he telling the truth about not knowing Tyler though?" Elena asked.

"Yes" Elijah nodded, "I think we should interview Katherine next and get her side of the story"

"I agree" Damon nodded.

Next it was Katherine's turn to face to inquisition and she came in looking as pale as usual. Lady Katherine glanced at her sister with contempt before sitting down.

"Why is Kol asking for money?" Damon asked.

"He said you refused to pay him a gambling debt" Bonnie informed her.

"A gambling debt?" she repeated in a surprised tone before recovering, "Oh, yes it was"

"Then why did you act so surprised, when we told you his version of events?" Bonnie pressed.

"I was surprised he told you that's all" Katherine answered.

"I know you're pregnant" Bonnie suddenly announced.

At that Katherine looked at Bonnie with shock she had no smart answers to that one.

"You're sick all the time and I saw a list of baby names in your room" Bonnie expanded on her theory.

It took her a few moments to answer.

"You must promise me not to repeat that" Katherine said hastily.

"You're pregnant!" Elena stated in a shocked voice.

"Please don't tell Tatia" Katherine pleaded, "You know what she's like"

"Tatia isn't as bad you think" argued Elena.

"I'm sorry, who is Tatia?" Damon interrupted.

"Our other triplet" Katherine informed them.

"Shall we get this interview back on track" Elijah suggested.

They all nodded their heads and continued with the questions.

"So just to clarify" Bonnie said, "Was that why you were paying Kol off then?"

"Yes, Kol was telling the truth about the gambling debts" she said quickly.

Damon had a feeling that Lady Katherine was lying to them.

"Did you know Tyler Lockwood?" Damon asked.

"No" Katherine shook her head.

"Where were you last night?" Elena wondered.

"Asleep" she shrugged.

"Did you hear anything odd?"

"I think I heard a running noise about midnight time"

They thanked her and Katherine left.

"She was definitely lying about why she was paying off Kol"

"I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of being lied to" Bonnie complained.

"Our job is dealing with a ship of liars"

Next it was Caroline to be interviewed, she looked nervous as she sat in the chair. She was wearing a beautiful turquoise dress with glittering diamonds on them. That must have cost a pretty penny. She also had a big rock sized emerald on her finger. Caroline was playing nervously with it.

"Where were you last night?" Damon added slyly, "Having 'intimate relations again'?"

"No" she answered giving him a glare, "I was reading a book by candlelight on the deck until midnight"

"Have you got any witnesses to prove this?" Bonnie questioned.

"Just my husband when I arrived back in the room"

"Did you see anything suspicious?" Elijah asked.

"Yes, I heard running behind me. But when I turned around to see who it was, they were gone"

Bonnie turned to Damon and whispered in his ear:

"That's what Katherine said"

Damon nodded and questioned Caroline again.

"What time was this?" he wanted to know.

"I have no idea" Caroline seemed to answer honestly.

"Did you know the deceased?" Bonnie quizzed.

"No"

Next, it was Klaus's turn he was wearing a neural expression not worried or nervous, but not happy either.

"Where were you last night?"

"Not at the bar if that's what you mean" Klaus responded drily, "I was writing a telegram to my sister and then reading a book in bed until Caroline came in.

At least their stories seem to match this time, Damon thought.

"Did you hear anything suspicious?"

"No, I was a bland evening. Although I do believe that my wife heard someone running"

"Yes, she told us" Elijah said.

Klaus gave him a sour look which Elijah returned.

"I knew you were poisonous brother but Scotland Yard" Klaus shook his head, "Were you going to arrest your own brother?"

"You're not my brother" Elijah said coldly.

They both gave each other a steely look or a few minutes.

"Let's just continue with the interrogation" Elena suggested.

"Did you know the deceased?" Bonnie asked.

"Never met him before in my life"

Davina came in looking very happy with herself. She sat very confidently on the chair as if very satisfied about something.

"Why are you so happy?" Elena asked with a slightly judgmental tone in it.

"I'm just in a good mood that's all".

"Why? Someone just died!" Bonnie wondered.

"Someone I didn't know" Davina scoffed, "I'm just in a good mood that's all"

"Where were you last night?" Bonnie inquired.

"In my room sleeping" Davina answered.

"Did you hear a running noise?"

"No, I did not"

When she'd left Damon said:

"She seemed waaaaaaaaaay too happy"

Bonnie couldn't help but nod.

Enzo was the last to be questioned. He seemed well, very distracted.

"I didn't know the deceased" Enzo told them.

There was something that made Bonnie think he was lying.

"Where were you when it happened?"

Enzo seemed to be thinking up an answer. Bennett and Salvatore gave each other knowing glares.

"In my room, reading"

"Is that the best you can up with?" Damon exclaimed with frustration.

"I am telling the truth"

"And my name is Lady Katherine" Damon snipped back.

"Believe what you like, but that's what happened" Enzo responded angrily before stepping out.

"Temper, temper" Damon shook his head.

Elijah and Elena had gone off to prepare a telegram for Scotland Yard. Bonnie and Damon were drinking some tea in the tearoom. It was midday so it was packed with people. Families, couples and friends all enjoying each other's company. The sound of laughter, talk, eating and the clink of cutlery on plates filled the room at they talked.

"I don't think Caroline and Klaus were suspicious for that one" Bonnie began.

"No, I agree" Damon nodded, "But Enzo and Davina were. NO ONE is that peppy after someone dies"

"It was clear that Enzo made that up on the spot" Bonnie said, moving Elena's nut plate out of way so she could put her drink down.

Stefan was coming towards them with a troubled expression. He was carrying two envelopes, Stefan sat at their table and put them down on it.

"I bring news" he began, "Firstly, I found out more about Tyler Lockwood and Mr A. Genov. They were both war criminals"

"War criminals!" Bonnie and Damon exclaimed together.

"They both made huge profits. They'd buy a big chunk of poor quality goods. Lockwood would sell it to the Allied Powers and A. Genov the central. They would make a lot of money out of it. The quality was so bad that a lot of the troops got bad skin diseases from the uniform. A family in Bulgaria discovered what they were doing but were shot down. Nobody knows to this day who the family is".

"They had enough money to get it thrown out of court. This first envelope has got more information" Stefan finished.

Bonnie and Damon were shocked they couldn't speak for a few moments.

"That's disgusting!" Bonnie answered in disbelief.

"No wonder Tyler was obsessed with heaven and hell!" Damon cried out in understanding.

"There is a further matter" Stefan told them picking up the second envelope and taking its contents out, "One of the passengers was fishing and accidently picked up some seaweed with a ripped up message on it. One of my sailors was able to restore and copy it onto another piece of paper with the corner we already have"

"The corner of the letter we found in Genov's room?"

"Yes"

Stefan laid it out on the table:

To Mr. A. Genov,

You were right about them, Klaus and Caroline Mikaelson are the people involved in that particular scandal. We should do our best to expose them and bring their crimes to public knowledge. Such behaviour should not pass. Could you please give me the whole exposé on them the time you reach New York? Thank you for telling me about them. Have a nice holiday boss.

From,

Mr George Howler

"You know what this means don't you?" Damon said to Bonnie.

"It means that Caroline and Klaus had a motive to kill him" Damon figured out, "Nice sleuthing little bro"
