Marinette could hardly believe it all, had Adrien's father really meant to hurt her? With a sharp intake of breath, she clamped a hand to her mouth, "Adrien...I remember! My brakes had failed when I tried to slow down on the corner! I lost control. Someone could have tampered with my car!"
"I won't ever let him hurt you ever again!" Adrien's hand reached for hers and allowed their fingers to intertwine but checking his watch, Adrien sighed sleepily, "you need to rest now and so do I- I'm so tired, we can talk more later-okay?"
Her hand tightened around his as she whispered worryingly, "you won't leave me, will you?" Shaking his head, he then kissed her tenderly and replied, "never again!"
But When she woke up; she was indeed alone, but in her hand was her poem from Cat Noir- though now it had a fresh verse on the back.
To you who holds my heart,
The one who came to me, even after 10 years apart.
My dearest Marinette, this I swear to you,
Our battle we shall win, as one becomes two.
This promise I shall seal with a kiss,
Along with our dreams, We shall no longer miss.
Because some time soon, our dreams will come real,
I only hope you share how I feel.
Will you help make my dream come true?
Because of course, my dream is you.
Adrien had said his father was hunting him, could she really be strong enough to stop him? Holding the note up and re-reading Adrien's poem, Marinette was able to draw the strength from her love's words- she would set him free!
Marinette picked up her phone to send him a message, 'Thank you for my new verse kitty. I hope I will be discharged from the hospital today!'
Once she had changed into her own clothes, she noticed the flashing light on her phone. With a smile she opened Adrien's response 'I told you before didn't I? Don't call me kitty! And You're most welcome bugaboo! Sorry I left but I needed to change and shower. I hope you are discharged today too…I am most looking forward to more pillow talk with you!'
Pillow talk? That sounded perfect! A warm feeling swelled within her; fate really had helped her broken heartstrings- it had brought her Adrien!
Thankfully, the doctors signed her discharge papers before lunchtime, after a quick call to her parents and Alya, Marinette packed her bag and began to dial for a taxi.
Before she could finish keying in the numbers though, her phone rang, "your carriage awaits Mi'lady!" Still holding the phone to her ear, she ran from the building to see a gorgeous black car waiting for her- with green eyes peering through the driver's window. "You know I hate it when you call me bugaboo! Nice ride kitty, thanks for the lift!"
She was relieved to have finally made it out of the hospital, but as Adrien drove them away Marinette's hands held her knees tightly. With a sideways glance, he held on to the hand that was closest, "are you okay?"
No she wasn't. Battling with her emotions as she considered the date, Marinette finally managed to confess to Adrien what was bothering her,"I'm sorry to ask this but please can we go to the graveyard?" Despite his clear surprise, he agreed and changed direction.
When they arrived, Adrien opened her door with a small smile, "shall I stay here? I mean, do you want some privacy?" Quickly, Marinette shook her head and pulled him by his hand. "
No! I need you to come too- there is something I need to say to you both!" Marinette kneeled in front of Luka's grave, her eyes shimmered but she wilfully restrained her tears.
"Adrien, the reason I brought you here; is because yesterday, you told me you love me. I never responded because I could only focus on what you told me about your past and your father. But now you deserve an answer- I need to respond to your feelings, but first I need closure."
Adrien knelt beside her in the cold grass, in front of Luka's grave, "I needed to bring you here because this is where my fiancé lies and today is the date that we were to be married. If I were to return your love- you need to know that I will always hold a special place for him! He is a part of my past that I don't want to escape. At times it may still pain me and I may still cry in my sleep for him- can you still accept me knowing this?"
Adrien already knew his answer, he had already cradled her as she woke crying for Luka, that was the night before he had realised his love for her! "Adrien, Luka is my past but I want you to be my future!"
Her tears were falling- despite her efforts she could no longer hold them back, but Adrien didn't want her to. He didn't want her to bury her past and her love for Luka for Adrien's love- because she would have his heart no matter what!
"Marinette, I love you! Your past is not a sin and I am blessed to even share a portion of your heart! Luka will always hold a place in there and I accept that! If he had lived you would be man and wife now and though I love you my heart also breaks for what you have lost. I only hope I can give you the life you want; the life you deserve- and also the life Luka would have no doubt given you!"
Adrien held a gentle hand on the stone, hoping to convey his respect to Luka, "Please rest easy my friend. Will you allow me to protect her in your place?" Marinette crouched over the headstone and planted a gentle kiss on the beautiful marble. She sniffled quietly before standing once more, "goodbye Luka. I know you would want me to be happy. Don't worry though; I will always have a chord reserved only for you in my heartstrings, I wont allow them to stay broken anymore- I promise!"
Marinette led Adrien back to his car by the hand, before getting in she turned to him. Her arms wrapped around his neck and her lips gently lowered on to his, "I'm free, now its time that you were too! How do we find your father?"
Adrien knew it was only a matter of time before his father appeared but he didn't want to worry about that yet, he wanted to enjoy his happiness a little while longer- but of course nothing ever works out that way
He didn't drive her home, he never wanted her to be alone in that small apartment ever again! He wanted her in his arms every night just as he had dreamed the first night they had spent together- when he laid alone on her bed and fantasized what it would be like to wake up to her every morning.
As soon as they reached his house, he grabbed Marinette and carried her swiftly up to his room. Losing himself in her sweet kisses, he ignored the shadowy feeling that now was haunting him- telling him they had a difficult time ahead.
Her soft hands cradled his face as he held her close, but still the lingering feeling of fear was eating away at him. Even as her eyes gazed lovingly into his, looking like bottomless pools of water shimmering in the moonlight, he couldn't shake his worry.
With shaking hands, he ripped her clothing away. Desperate to become lost in her touch and to have her moans drown out his screaming mind, he thrust into her fiercely. Though he wanted to be distracted by lust, he reminded himself of her injuries- he needed to be gentle!
The slow rhythm was enjoyable and endearing, however it wasn't enough, he could sense that she was feeling teased and impatient. With no regard for her injuries, she pulled him close to her and begged into his ears desperately, "please Adrien, I need more!" They had made love once again. In little over one week, a simple quick fuck had evolved to lifelong and absolute love and he couldn't quite believe it still!
Adrien's finger was tracing up and down Marinette's arm lightly while they spoke idly of the little things that they wanted to know about each other. But the little things soon turned into big things as their conversation inevitably fell on Adrien's father.
Marinette looked at him solemnly, "Adrien, I hope we can end this amicably with your father. I know he must love you- I know we can make him see sense!"
With a small sniff, Adrien closed his eyes as he buried his head into Marinette. His hand grasped onto hers and with a deep sigh he responded, "I hope you're right Marinette, I hope you're right!"
