Chapter 4: Second Year and Christmas at the Potters

Mal never thought of the day that she would say that she didn't want to leave the Isle. Her first year at Hogwarts was an utter nightmare, mostly consisting of her being alone without Evie, Jay or Carlos – all whom made new and improved friends. Mal on the other hand, had stuck by Albus and Scorpius.

As Mal walked towards Ursula's Fish and Chips, she sees Uma and her pirate gang. Mal became close friends with Uma since she got back from Hogwarts at Christmas, even closer during the summer. She handed Uma a snowflake necklace that she made for her mum at Christmas time (which her mum didn't approve of and gave it back to her). Uma, however approved of the gift and has worn it since Christmas

'What's up, Dragon?' Uma said, as she emerges from taking the trash out. 'Looking forward to Hogwarts.'

'Not particularly,' Mal replied. 'Just that I don't know why. But I hate it there.'

'Maybe because you're a daughter of an evil villain and everyone hates you because of it,' Uma added. 'Maybe not. I'm just saying.'

'I wish you could come,' Mal added. 'We could be in the same house. I mean, you are smart and cunning.'

'That's very Slytherin of you, Dragon,' Uma said. 'But my place is here at the Isle. Not at some posh wizarding school.' Mal sighed.

'I'll see you next summer,' Mal said.

'Oh, you're not coming back here,' Uma asked.

'Well, Hermione offered that I should start spending Christmas in the Wizarding World,' Mal replied. 'And I was planning to stay at Hogwarts for Christmas so.'

'I get it,' Uma sighed. 'Look, send me some chocolate frogs, okay?' She hugs Mal tightly as Evie calls out for them to leave.

Mal walked onto platform nine and three-quarters, as she sighs heavily. She missed Uma. 'Mal,' Evie called out. 'Hey.'

'Hi, E,' Mal said. 'What is it?'

'Umm, you know there's a new rumour going around the train,' Evie said. 'About you.'

'What about?' Mal asked.

'Look, you told me in confidence about Hades being your dad,' Evie said. 'Well, someone got wind of it and has spread those rumours around.' Mal looked angrily at Evie as she walked onto the train – hyperventilating. Many Hogwarts students laughed at her, some even whispered as she reached Scorpius' compartment.

'Hey, Mal,' Scorpius said as she sits down beside him. 'What's wrong?'

'The rumour,' Mal said. 'The rumour that…' Suddenly, Albus entered. He looked as angry as she was.

'Sorry,' he said. Mal rolled her eyes, dramatically as she continues to tell them about the fact that Hades is her father.

'Look, only Evie knows,' she said. 'And I fully trust Evie. I don't want anyone else to know, alright. If anything, it's just a rumour. Just leave it at that. If anyone finds out my dad is the leader of the Underworld… I would be caught in a crossfire of hatred with everyone at Hogwarts. I wish I know who spread that rumour.'

Both nodded as all three of them started their conversations about their summers. Albus spent his summer, often in his room away from his family and friends, while Scorpius was caring for his mother who was a very sick.

Second year according to Mal was the worst year. Firstly, Rose Granger-Weasley and Jay both got chaser in the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Secondly, almost any time she was in the same area as Carlos, he would run away from her. And thirdly, Evie was partnered up with her for potions as she wasn't allowed to work with Albus and Scorpius and she hated it.

Christmastime came as McGonagall asked for those who plan on staying at Hogwarts for Christmas. Scorpius had decided to go back home, while Mal who didn't particularly want to spend any time at Hogwarts even at Christmas was very indecisive, until the day before everyone left, when Albus came up to her. 'I heard you are quite possibly staying here at Christmas,' he said. She nodded. 'You can come with me back to London with my family. We're having a small Christmas this year, just with the Granger-Weasleys and I don't want to be alone with Rose.'

'Thanks, Albus,' She said. She accepted the offer immediately and left the next day. The train trip consists of the both of them having a small conversation as Albus asked a question about the Isle.

'I mean, it's dirty,' she said. 'A lot of stealing and wreaking havoc, you know.' She sighed. 'I hardly talk to my mum, you know. I mean she's proud that I'm a Slytherin, however, she wants me to break the barrier between Auradon and the Isle. But I just. I can't. I'm not my mum. I'm not a villain. I'm different.'

'Don't you have at least a few friends on the Isle?' he asked.

'Uma and her pirates,' she replied. 'I'm part of that gang. I often send them Wizard Sweets. Same to my mum. But I think she knows that I'm weak – that I'm not going to fulfil her mission.'

'Then don't fulfil the mission,' Albus concluded. 'You are only doing it to make your mum proud.'

Christmas was a somewhat uneventful affair. Rose and Albus continued to bicker and fight about their houses, with Albus continuing being jealous of Rose and Rose confessing that she spread the rumour about Hades being Mal's dad as she overheard a conversation between Harry and Hermione. Mal kept silent about Hades as Rose dug herself a bigger hole that she wouldn't get out of.

Both Harry and Hermione kept silent. Ron, however, made Mal laugh – with all his jokes and pranks. She and Lily were snickering in the corner. Mal actually became friends with Lily and Hugo who both didn't mind Mal being related to Hades, even though it was a secret and at Hogwarts – it was a rumour. On Christmas Day, Mal handed Lily a beautiful present stolen from Dizzy at the Isle. It was a beautiful handcrafted crown. 'It's beautiful,' she added, as she puts the clip in her hair. She gave Albus a seashell broach.

'Uma made it herself,' she said to Albus. 'And she thought that you'll love it.' Albus nodded as he pinned the broach onto his jumper. Meanwhile, she gave James Maleficent's spell book. 'I'm in no use for it as we've got our own spells. However those spells are more advanced and you'll probably make more use of it.'

Summer before third year, Mal ran away from her own mother. Celia – the five-year-old daughter of Doctor Facilier had helped her escape as Mal found her father in the tunnels of the Isle. However, he wasn't exactly forward about accepting her. 'He always asks about you, you know,' Celia said, as they both walked out. 'Asked about Hogwarts.' She decided to leave Hades to his own thoughts as she asks Uma if she can stay for a bit.

'Stay as long as you like, Mal,' Uma said. 'Your mother is the definition of the Devil – even compared to my mum.'

'Uma!' Ursula shouts. 'More working. Less chatting.'

'Coming mama,' Uma said. 'If you're going to stay here, you best bet is to help me out.' So that's what Mal did during the summer break – mostly helping Uma and Ursula out. A few hours before leaving for her third year of Hogwarts, Hades emerged from his caves and greeted her.

'Just because I'm a God, doesn't me I get to farewell my own daughter,' he said.

'Celia said that you often ask about me,' she said.

'Well, the Isle life can be boring,' he added. 'Okay, really boring and trust me. I rather be out there than in here.' Uma runs up to her and gives her a hug and a present.

'Open it when you leave,' she said. 'It would be awkward if you open it here.' Mal gives Uma a hug and smiles as she leaves waving goodbye to Uma and her gang and her dad.

Upon arriving at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, Mal opened the package to find a small shell necklace that Uma gave to her and a note:

Mal,

Thank you for all your help this summer. Mum and I thought of giving you something small for our gratitude and this is what we thought: a necklace, much like what I wear and what my mum wears. It's magical too. It wouldn't work on the Isle; however, it will work in the Wizarding World. I'll miss you. Have fun, Mal. See you soon.

Uma.

Mal laughed as she puts the letter away and puts the necklace on as some light shines from it. 'Whoa,' she said. 'Cool.' She runs to see Scorpius who is sitting on his suitcase and also sees Albus who is arguing with his dad.

'Got to go,' Albus said. 'Train to catch. Friends to find.' Albus walks up to them, looking delighted as Mal sighs and hides her necklace.

'Scorpius,' he said. 'Mal. Scorpius, are you okay?' Scorpius doesn't say anything. Mal stands up.

'Look what Uma gave me,' she said, showing them the necklace. 'I helped her out at her mum's fish and chip shop at the Isle. It's cool, isn't it? It's a seashell necklace and it's magical. It's glowing.' Albus admires the necklace.

'Uma must be a nice person,' he said.

'I don't have many friends on the Isle as well, everyone is afraid of my dad and my mum,' she said. 'Uma's mum – Ursula cursed Ariel and well, you know what happens. Long story short, a true loves kiss.' Albus makes a disgusting face.

'Ew,' Albus said. 'Never works. It's stupid.' Mal laughs, but Scorpius still looks sad.

'Scorp,' Mal said. 'What happened? Is it your mum? Did it get worse?' They both sit beside Scorpius.

'It's got the worst it can possibly get,' he said. Mal started crying.

'You could've written to us,' she said through her sobs.

'I couldn't work out what to say,' he added.

'And now we both don't know what to say,' Albus said.

'Say nothing,' Scorpius said.

'Is there anything,' Albus began.

'Come to the funeral,' Scorpius said.

'Of course,' Albus and Mal said at the same time.

'And be my good friends,' Scorpius added.

Hey all, so happy to be back and writing. It's been a while and I've been very busy with university and life in general. Anyway, I'll be writing more often now. Hope you all have had a great 2020 so far.
