Chapter 2:

Edward and I left the comfort of our cottage, our hands intertwining like knotted up rope as we walked at a fairly human rate towards the forest near the reservation. We didn't want to rush, as there was no need to since we weren't human, and we had all the time in the world.

Even though we knew at the edge of the forest, Renesmee would wait for us, we still took our time. I took in the scenery, listening to the sounds of the animals traversing the land, birds feeding their young in the trees causing them to shake and the leaves to rustle. I could hear our footsteps as the leaves and sticks crunched under our feet.

I looked over towards Edward and found he was doing the same thing too. He smiled at me as he noticed me watching him, his golden eyes twinkling at me. I looked towards where we were walking, noting the border was only a few metres ahead of us, and Renesmee stood leaning against a tree. She immediately pushed her small frame off the trunk of the tree and walked towards us.

I was surprised when she immediately embraced us, but Edward didn't seem too bothered.

"Where's Jacob?" I asked. I had barely ever seen those two apart since we first arrived. They were inseparable, stuck together like two magnets.

Renesmee rolled her eyes at her comment, her face morphing into a resemblance of Edward's. "He's back on the Reservation. There's some stuff he needs to sort out" She speaks, the wind catching her hair and blowing it over her shoulder.

"Nothing ever happens on the reservation" Edward states. "Why would something be happening now?"

"I think the pack might be forming again" Renesmee shrugs as we walk slowly towards the main Cullen house. We all had figured that the inhabitants of the reservation would change when vampires were in proximity outside their borders. Or more specifically, Us. I had been expecting it for a while, but it had taken some, time to happen.

My theory was that Jacob was already changed, limiting the need for more werewolves in the area. Or that the genes were confused on the course of Renesmee; Was she human or a vampire? In everyone's eyes, she was human, except she hadn't aged for decades now.

We arrived at the main house, Rosalie immediately pulling Renesmee towards her room for a new shopping catalogue spree. Edward and I watched in amusement as it happened and we looked back at each other.

Renesmee had barely used her gift since we had arrived back. I had asked her, and her answer seemed reasonable. She wanted to fit in with everyone and she felt quite awkward touching people's faces since she was young.

I looked at Edward while Renesmee talked to Alice about how she'd gone to see Nahuel and the rest of the hybrid clan in Brazil. He seemed occupied, listening to something. I too, listened carefully, trying to find something he was listening to. It wasn't long until I realised it was something I couldn't hear.

I nudged him in the arm with my elbow, his face turning to me in confusion. "What's wrong?" I asked him in a whisper. He shook his head with a smile, before tapping on his forehead. I knew immediately he was keeping something from me and I frowned.

"I need to go back to Jacob," Renesmee says after a few moments of silence. "Mom? Dad? You coming with me?" She asked us. We both nodded in unison before standing up from our seats. We slowly walked back outside, the cool air slapping us gently in the face as we wandered through the bushland towards the Reservation border.

Immediately as we arrived we stopped, seeing a white coloured wolf with hints of brown spots all over its body. As we approached, more different coloured wolves came from the bush inland. The wolves growled and barked at us, I assumed because they knew what Edward and I are. Edward and I stopped as we said goodbye to Renesmee, who gave us both a hug before turning to the treaty line.

The wolves barked and growled at her aggressively before all their heads were forced down by another wolf coming full sprint towards the treaty line. The wolf was about ten feet in length, had russet brown fur, dark eyes and was swift as he moved through the forest.

The alpha's stance was so clear in his posture that I could have a human's vision and I would still see it. He barked happily as he saw us and Renesmee and bounded over the treaty line to greet us.

Not long after a short conversation, with Jacob in his human form, he walked back over the treaty line with Renesmee, wolves back out of the way to make a path for their leader. Not long after they leave, Edward takes my hand and directs us back to the house.

"Did you notice how the wolves were acting towards Renesmee?" Edward asked me with a tone of worry in his voice. I nodded, looking up at his face.,

"Yeah, It was because we were there isn't it?"

"Partially. It's also because they think she's one of us. Jacob was planning on telling them. They're all fairly new to the werewolf part of life." Edward says, his tone I could tell was covering up something that he didn't want to tell me. My instinct told me I should have noticed it, but I didn't.

"You aren't telling me something" I state, my eyes squeezing together in a squint to show my suspicion. He sighed and looked into the bush.

"The wolves were planning on killing Renesmee and us. Jacob will have it down and sorted through. He's an alpha and non of the wolves can leave his control."

I panic, my thoughts racing towards the time when the fuzzy memories of myself as a human, being pregnant with Renesmee. I didn't want to think that the girl I had given up everything on, could die at the hands of the wolves, the only thing a threat to our kind… and Renesmee's. I assumed that as Jacob was the alpha of the pack, nothing like this would ever happen. Renesmee would be protected at all costs.

"He better" I growl, unintentionally. Edward looks at me in shock, noticing all my facial features. "If one of those wolves lay a hand on her, they might turn to face death"

Edward's hand touched my shoulder as he stopped me. His satin hands cradled my face and forced me to look at him. I stared into his eyes, or his soul and I noticed he felt the same way, but knowing him, he wouldn't admit it yet.

"That won't happen. Jacob would do anything for Ness. Just like he did for you" he says, a small smile rising on his face to hide his worry. I nodded, trying to convince myself.

The worries I had was just too hard to shake.
