a/n: comforting dad vibes from Coran. After this chapter it will move on from this setting. i worked a long time on lance's reaction and the order it all should go in.

tw: panic attack, gender dysphoria, death mention

My body is female.

Lance didn't say it, but he thought it looking at the mirror. It was alien, yet familiar. His body was his but not his, it was alien.

"I need to sit down." Lance said forcefully.

Coran led him to the closest chair, next to the mirror, they were in silence for a bit. Coran was standing still, looking to the wall while Lance was staring a hole into the floor.

"This isn't me...but I am me?"

"Of course, it's you." Coran said gently, "How do you feel about what went on?"

Coran's eyes weren't meeting Lance's or on his body, just elsewhere. Lance appreciated it.

"I don't know." Lance said, "It's just hitting me. It's a lot. A lot of...change."

Lance's hand came to his face, then both, his body sank, face in his hands.

"Ok," Coran tilted his head, "What pronouns do you want, you see they don't match to your body but there have been cases of different presentation that I've read about."

Damn Coran.

Lance took a big breath and lifted his head slightly, looking at his palms.

"I'm using he and him pronouns in my head, but it might be too confusing for...just call me whatever, just be nice." Lance decided.

"Ok lad, it's your choice you know." Coran said.

He was Lance, but the features didn't match up to what he usually saw in the mirror. He was Lance, but his sex was not the same as what he saw. He was Lance, but it was all different. Hips, the same hair, silkier skin, less hair, a chest? The presentation and internal thoughts didn't match.

"Oh my god." Lance felt tears well up into his eyes. He tried to steady his emotions but couldn't. It all fully crashed into him. The suit, the goo, the journey back to the castle. He could have- A sob escaped him.

Died.

But here he was crying about his change in sex.

An unwanted one.

He was a purple flower and he wanted to be a red triangle. Whatever binaries he held in his head and body all crumbled in his palms.

"It's ok my boy- wait. Do you want to be called that or...?" Coran was a man of science.

"I am a boy, I guess, but I am still Lance." he didn't want this, "What- What caused this?" Lance asked through his tears.

The two met eyes; Lance with tears, Coran with a unwavering gaze.

Allura came through the speakers: "Update on Lance, Coran?"

Coran looked at Lance, as if asking Allura what to tell her.

"Just tell her I'm sleeping still."

"I won't tell her. I disabled the video and automatic audio a bit ago."

Lance was grateful and nodded, sinking into his seat.

How was he going to tell the team?
