Tomoe hiccuped as he finished off another jug of sake. He laughed triumphantly as Kurama fell onto the floor, cuddling a nearby jug of sake.
"Hahaha, I tooooold you that I can beat yoooooou, damn bird." Tomoe slurred.
"Damn foxxxx, I'm stilll cooler than yooou."
"Ha! You wish!" He laughed and leaned against the wall, letting the sake settle in his belly. Tomoe's tail wrapped around his body as Tomoe closed his eyes. "Nanami, I can't wait to be with yooouuu." He smiled goofishly. If he wasn't already red in the face, mentioning his lover made his cheeks more red.
"Tomoe is sooooooooo whipped~!" Kurama laughed as he poked at Tomoe's nearby foot. "I can only iiimmmagine the things Nanmi wants you to do to her on honeymon night~" His words becoming more and more incoherent.
Mizuki was already passed out on the floor, cuddling Mikage, who was barely awake. Mikage giggled at Kurama's statements.
"Tomoe looooovessss Nanami~~" Mikage joined in as if he was a child, teasing his friend.
"Yes, I dooooo and you can't stop meeee~" Tomoe smiled as he yawned. "Nanami is too great not to love." He mumbled under his breath as he drifted off to sleep.
Tonight. Finally, the night was here. Nanami bit her lip anxiously and paced around as she watched the minutes ticked by. Of course, she wasn't allowed to see Tomoe until the ceremony, but what she wouldn't give to see him to calm her nerves. Granted she was able to call him to discuss the gift of pearls from Himemiko, but shortly after that, Himemiko and the wisps pulled her away, starting to prepare her for the night ahead.
Tomoe wasn't in much better shape. He was anxious as well, but his way of showing it was snapping at Mizuki and Kurama. Then again, what was the difference from any other day? Tomoe kept glancing at a nearby clock, and grumbled to him, but he heard Mikage come into his room.
"Tomoe, if you keep pacing, you're going to dig a hole into the floor." He teased. "Are you excited to see your bride?"
"Of course I am. I just want to see her. Being away from her is driving me nuts. I can practically feel her jitters." He sighed as he turned to look at Mikage.
Tomoe was already in his black traditional wedding kimono, his tail swishing with each step. His big fluffy ears twitched at every little noise. He could here dogs in the distance, howling at the setting sun. The cicadas were buzzing loudly it was almost deafening.
"I know, Tomoe. It's almost time. From what Himemiko said, Nanami is almost done, just a few more things. Then we'll get on with the parade through the youkai world and continue on with the ceremony. Just calm down and breathe. Soon, you will be with her all the time." The tone in Mikage's voice changed slightly as he ended his statement, which was not missed by Tomoe. Tomoe smirked as he spoke.
"Jeez, and here I thought you were a Land God, pure and innocent."
"I know how humans are, Tomoe. I can assure that you and Nanami will be no different." He laughed as he hugged his fox friend.
Mikage was happy for his dear friend, but of course he was sad deep down, knowing that he wouldn't see him again, unless they came to visit the shrine. But even then it would be difficult for them to interact. He came to peace with this. Tomoe had been unhappy for so many years, so this small price was more than worth it for Mikage.
"Hey, I just got off the phone with Himemiko. It's time." Mizuki chimed in as he peeked into the room.
Immediately, Tomoe's face lit up. 'Finally!' he thought. 'I can finally be with Nanami.'
Nanami shook slightly as she walked outside of Himemiko's palace. So many emotions were coursing through her. Happiness, anxiety, worry, excitement. She smiled as Himemiko looked over her face.
"I'm ok, just overwhelmed." Nanami said with a quivering voice.
"I know, it's ok to be. But, I can tell you this. As soon as you see Tomoe, you'll be at ease."
Nanami simply nodded. She knew that was the truth. All you really wanted, was to see her Tomoe. Her lover. Just the thought of him being hers, made her smile warmly.
