Izuku's patrols increased after the attack on Keigo. He had become significantly more distant from the heroes and police that he had worked with. All of his energy was thrown into hunting down Stain. Every rumor and every lead were all chased to their end. Day and night he was out searching for the Hero Killer.
Orion tried to make him rest but Izuku brushed his concern off. He could rest when he caught Stain. There were many things he could abide by but attacking the overgrown chicken was not one of them.
Yes, Hawks acted like a child more often than not. Yes, he had been trained by the Commission but he had the heart of a true hero. To Keigo, it didn't matter what the public saw him as. He did everything he could to help those who needed him. Whether that was a civilian, a fellow hero, or an injured mistrustful vigilante.
Out of anyone he could have attacked Stain made a mistake in this attack. A mistake that Izuku would make him pay for. If only he could find the bastard.
Three days after the attack on Hawks found him well after 3 am still patrolling. He was standing on a rooftop overlooking the city. His connection to the Spirits of the Wind allowed him to sense much of what was happening. It didn't extend over the entire city but it did give him a better sense of what was happening.
How he wished he could extend it even further. To do so would only last a short time. And when it ended he would be left helpless unable to move much less protect himself.
So he used what he could and kept moving trying to find trouble. He should have known trouble would find him instead. With the Spirits searching out in front of him there was no one watching his back. Something strong and heavy slammed into his back nearly sending him off the rooftop. Though even if he had fallen he could draw enough Spirits to keep him from falling to his death. It was one of the perks of being a Wind Magic-user. Wind Spirits came faster than any of the others.
Izuku recovered quickly and tried to round on the attacker. Only to be forced to duck around a serrated sword. Immediately he knew who he was facing down without even needing to see them. Stain. It seemed the Hero Killer had come for him instead of the other way around. Good.
Sending a blast of air at the villain he launched forward. As he expected the blast of air was unexpected. One would have thought that Stain would have done his research on Izuku. Before the big raid, he had done there wasn't much information on him or his quirk. With the raid having been complete and Izuku having used his full capabilities it should be better recognized. In the same way, Izuku knew that Stain ingested blood to prevent his opponents from fighting back.
A snarl came from Stain but it was wordless. Neither of them spoke. They both knew why they were there tonight. Stain wanted to end him. Izuku wanted to stop the villain. Too many were being maimed and killed by the man.
One free hand drew his knife knowing he would need it. Wind Spirits could only do so much to protect him. There was a brief hesitation before he activated his emergency beacon. Pride would only get him killed here.
The sword came down towards his head as if trying to take his head off. He didn't try to block it instead shifting back ever so slightly. It passed within a hairbreadth of his nose. Izuku took in a breath and tried to duck in close. Stain took a step back trying to keep the distance that he needed to use his sword.
Using his own knife he was able to knick the man in the side and on the bicep. Then he was danced back to avoid a punch meant for his jaw. Unfortunately, this gave the man the room he needed. He was barely able to move away as it came around again. The jacket he was wearing was torn from shoulder to hip.
Izuku had moved back just enough to prevent blood from being drawn. Using the Wind Spirits he trapped the blade down close to the ground. Surprise flickered across the man's face. Then he released his sword and drew his own knife. Like the sword it was serrated.
Metal clashed on metal causing sparks to fly and light up the night. Below them, Izuku heard the sirens sounded signaling the police had gotten his signal. In the moment of his inattention Stain took advantage. His knife came forward clipping the boy across the chest. It wasn't a dangerous slash but it did draw blood in the small part unprotected by his vest. But it did draw blood and to his horror, the villain licked it up. Just as he expected the quirk required ingestion. And suddenly he could not move an inch.
Stain said his voice low and dark pushing Izuku to the ground, "You're not bad for an untrained vigilante. Especially given how young you are. It's too bad you sought me out. I would have ignored you if you hadn't. But you're making it impossible for me to work. That cannot be allowed to happen."
The vigilante grunted as he hit the ground unable to move off his back. Stain then planted his boot on Izuku's chest. When the villain pressed it made it difficult for him to breathe.
Izuku snarled through gritted teeth, "You attacked someone I cared about. Someone had to stop you and I'm not restricted by the laws."
Stain seemed to examine him again. He was picking up the sword that had been released by the Wind Spirits in the fight. Crossing the small space he held the sword as if he was about to stab Izuku.
"You're talking about Hawks. I maimed him, yes but if I wanted him dead he would be. I used him to send a message to the Commission. After all, I'll kill the false heroes and those who stand behind them."
The sword came down piercing him through the shoulder. Izuku clenched his jaw to keep from crying out. This was nothing compared to what he endured in school.
"Hawks is not a false hero! Unlike so many others he is not afraid to reach out a hand. Whether it's to a frightened civilian or a hurt vigilante. He is a true hero!"
Stain opened his mouth to say something more. However, there was a shout from behind Stain where the stairwell was, "Police don't move!"
