Chapter 19: The Threat

Reefside High School, Reefside

September 29, 2013

3:30 pm

JT, Jess, Cody, and Amelia were walking to the parking lot so Jess and Amelia could meet Jess' father, Peter, for a ride to Jess' house. Trevor was nowhere to be seen, as he wasn't in school today.

Peter pulled up in his Honda Sedan and Amelia and Jess opened the doors.

"Hey, you girls have fun! Be careful when you go out tonight!" JT said.

"We will, JT, don't worry," Amelia said as the doors shut and Peter honked the horn as he drove off.

JT and Cody went over to Tommy's Jeep and waited for him to come out of the school.

So, what do you want to do tonight?" Cody asked.

"I don't know, play some video games, watch some YouTube videos, stuff like that," JT said as Tommy met them at the Jeep.

"Hey, fellas, you guys ready for the weekend?" Tommy asked.

"Yeah, Dad, we're ready," JT said as they hopped in the Jeep and Tommy drove off.

Tommy and Kim's House, Reefside

7:30 pm

JT and Cody were busy playing video games in the basement family room when they heard some muffled noises upstairs. Then a moan came from upstairs.

Cody looked at JT like he was grossed out.

"Your parents actually…you know," Cody said.

"Yeah, it's embarrassing especially when Mia and I have friends over, that's why I have the basement bedroom and Mia has the downstairs bedroom. They try to not be too loud when they…you know," JT said sticking his tongue out.

"I can't remember the last time my parents…you know," Cody said.

"Then you're lucky, then. My parents go at it like rabbits at least twice a week, sometimes three."

"Man, that's crazy!"

"Yeah, tell me about it!"

JT's phone pinged, signaling that a message arrived. JT looked at his phone, and suddenly wondered how Trevor Jr. got his phone number.

He read the message and got red in the face.

It said:

"Dweeble, meet me at the 219 warehouse in Angel Grove at 8:15 pm or you'll be sorry.

Trevor Jr.

JT tried accessing his parents through their shared link, but they blocked him.

"JT, what's wrong?" Cody asked.

"It was Trevor Jr. He wants me to meet him at the 219 warehouse in Angel Grove in 45 minutes," JT said grabbing his jacket.

"What for?"

"He didn't say," JT said rushing up the stairs, Cody following.

"DAD! MOM! Something's wrong!" JT said after trying to access his sister through the link but couldn't.

Tommy and Kim came out from their bedroom after hearing JT scream.

"JT, what's wrong?" Kim asked.

"Trevor Jr. texted me. Something about meeting him at the 219 warehouse in 45 minutes and I tried to contact Amelia but she's not responding!" JT said.

Tommy went upstairs to throw some clothes on, and Kim went to do the same. They came downstairs, Tommy with his jacket on.

"You stay here in case the Stephenson's call. I'll go with the boys!" Tommy said to Kim as she nodded.

"Please be careful, Tommy, JT. I'll call for backup," Kim said as she got out her phone.

"Good idea," Tommy said as he, JT, and Cody got in the Jeep and sped off.

Angel Grove Warehouse District, Angel Grove

8:15 pm

Tommy dropped off JT a few blocks away from the Warehouse District, per Jason's instructions. Jason got the call from Kim about the situation and Jason said he was going to bring backup.

JT ran like his life depended on it. He got to warehouse 219 and looked around. Nobody was around. Then someone knocked JT out with a shovel.

15 minutes later

JT was starting to come to but couldn't move his hands or feet. Then he looked down and saw that he was tied to a chair.

"Hey dweeble, miss me?"

It was Trevor Jr. standing in front of him, with a smirk on his face.

JT looked around the warehouse and saw a lot of money on conveyor belts, and plenty of suitcases.

"What is this place?" JT asked.

"Welcome to my dad's money laundering business. This is where I go to help my dad after school with his little project," Trevor said proud of himself.

"How, how…?" JT started to say.

"You're asking how the police and the feds don't know about this yet? Simple, dweeble, he doesn't draw attention to himself. He dismantled the security camera's that the district put up and turned off location sharing on his phone, and so did I."

"You'll never get away with this!" JT said.

"And just what are you going to do about it? You're tied up! You can't go anywhere! And you really don't want to after I show you what's behind curtain #1."

JT's eyes got wide as Trevor pulled back the curtain.

It was Amelia, tied up and hanging by the ceiling.

"Say hello to your sister, Amelia." Trevor Jr. said pulling the tape off Amelia's mouth. She yelped.

"What did you do to her?!" JT yelled.

"Easy, not too loud, but of course nobody can hear you, they're all at home!" Trevor laughed.

"JT…" Amelia started to say until Trevor slapped her in the face.

JT tried to get free but couldn't.

Just then a person came out of the shadows.

It was Trevor Sr.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Tweedle Dee's son, the dweeble. Welcome to my exploitation of the U.S. Treasury. Nice, isn't it?" Trevor Sr. said.

"What do you want?"

"Well, I believe your father and uncles have what I want, and at the same time I want to tell you the big secret your parents have been keeping from you all these years."

"My parents aren't hiding anything from me."

"That's what you think. Before my parents moved me to LA in 1995 I started wondering where your parents and their friends went when they heard a beeping sound that was coming from their wrists. I was in the boys locker room and heard everything. Them talking to Alpha, and Zordon. So, I followed them in that contraption that was like a flying car that one of their friends, the brain, Billy, yes that was his name, created. I followed them to the desert where they went down a tube into some abandoned building. Then later I saw flashes of light coming out of the tube. Later when I saw the news I saw six uniformed persons together who were called the "power rangers."

"Power Rangers…no, you must be mistaken! My parents were not superheroes!"

"Oh, but they were! They were fighting the evil forces from outer space! Dweebs in Spandex, that's so funny! Say that five times fast."

"That's funny! Good one, Dad!"

"Shut up, son!"

"Shutting up."

"Now that I've told you the big secret, now you can help me contact your "uncle" Billy for some valuable information, information that can seal the deal on my money laundering business." Trevor Sr. said.

"Never!" JT spat out.

"Oh, really. Trevor, show the kid what's behind door number 1," Trevor Sr. said as Trevor Jr. opened the door. There was Jess, tied to a chair, bleeding from her head.

"Jess! Jess!" JT screamed as he tried to get free once more.

"You can't get free no matter what you do! Now you, you're sister, and your girlfriend will die a lonely death because I'm blowing this popsicle stand and taking my business with me," Trevor Sr. said as men in black suits came and started moving the money to moving vans.

"But Dad, I thought you said I could have my way with them, especially the dweeble's girlfriend!"

"Plans change, son. You were a great fighter, but I don't need you anymore," Trevor Sr. said as he aimed his handgun at Trevor Jr. and fired a shot. Trevor Jr. fell to the ground. Amelia and Jess screamed.

"Throw the dweeble and his sister in the room with the dweeble's girlfriend. Lock the door and chain it shut, then turn on the gas," Trevor Sr. said as he replaced the tape on JT and Amelia's mouths. The men in black suits grabbed the chair holding JT and cut Amelia down from the ceiling and threw them in the room. They threw Trevor Jr. in a corner of the room and shut the door, locked it, and chained it shut.

"So long, suckers!" Trevor Sr. said getting into one of the vans and driving off.

The gas was turned on, filling the room.

The twins started hearing their mother speaking to them through the link.

"JT…Amelia…can you hear me?!" Kim yelled.

"Mom…locked room…gas…can't breathe…" JT said.

"Son were coming! Just hang on!" Tommy yelled.

"Help us dad…please!" Amelia said gasping for breath.

"Hang on, baby! We're coming!" Tommy said.

A few minutes later they could hear sirens, the door to the warehouse busted down, and police were storming the building.

"Where are they?! Wait, that door!" Tommy said.

"Jimmy, get the chain clippers now!" Jason said.

Tommy saw the keypad controlling the gas.

"Damn, it's armed!" Tommy said.

"Man, look at this place! It has money laundering written all over it!" Jason whistled.

"Does anybody know the code to this gas switch?!" Tommy asked.

"Wait! Maybe he does!" One of the officers said as they went over to Trevor Jr.

"Hey, Jr., you are still alive?" Jason asked.

"I'm not telling you nothing!" Trevor Jr. whispered.

"Well, that's too bad because you're facing local, state, and federal charges for helping Daddy dearest with his "business"."

"Never!"

"Well, we'll leave you to die, then." Jason said.

"It's 0304!" Trevor whispered louder.

"What was that?"

"The code. It's 0304!"

"Tommy, you heard it?!"

"Loud and clear!" Tommy said as he punched in the numbers and the police busted down the door. The gas cleared and Tommy, Jason, and Jimmy rushed in at the same time the paramedics came.

Tommy went straight to JT and undid the rope and tape and got him off the chair. Jason untied Amelia, and Jimmy undid the rope and tape on Jess and got her off the chair.

"JT! JT!" Tommy shook his son but got no response.

The paramedics came in and took over, trying to assess JT, Amelia, and Jess. Cody was trying to get inside the warehouse, but Jimmy was holding him back.

Soon, JT, Amelia, and Jess were on stretchers and being wheeled towards the ambulances. Once they were stabilized the ambulances took off.

Tommy stood outside the warehouse and checked his phone. Then he looked up and saw Cody standing there, terrified.

Tommy walked up to Cody and Cody ran into his arms and started sobbing.

Tommy rubbed his back and held him close.

Then they headed towards the Jeep to make the trip to the hospital.

Angel Grove Community Hospital, Angel Grove

10 pm

Tommy was making a few phone calls and Kim was pacing the waiting room waiting for news on the twins and Jess.

Just then a Sherriff's deputy entered the room.

"Are you Dr. Thomas Oliver?" the deputy asked.

"Yes? May I help you?" Tommy asked.

"Just wanted to deliver this restraining order to you on behalf of Peter Stephenson. Have a good day," the deputy said as he walked away.

"Tommy?" Kim whispered as Tommy opened the envelope and read the papers inside.

"It's a restraining order filed against us, JT, and Amelia by Edith and Peter. It orders us to not have contact with or be within 500 feet of them, Cody, or Jess. The reason cited is extenuating circumstances related to the past lives of said children's parents," Tommy said.

"How did they know? Who told them?" Kim asked.

"Trevor Jr. texted Cody the truth before his phone got taken away from him. Peter ordered Cody to show him his phone and he read the text. It said something about Kim and Tommy's "past lives" as "Power Rangers" and that they were the real danger to Cody and Jess," Jason said, walking up to Tommy and Kim.

"That's…not true. We were the good guys! We fought evil forces; we weren't evil ourselves!"

"You didn't read the other reason that made Peter and Edith file the restraining order."

Tommy read the rest of the two-part sentence.

"In addition to those circumstances, the ongoing feud and history between Dr. Thomas J. Oliver and Trevor J. Brighton Sr. and their two sons, Trevor J. Brighton, Jr. and Jason Thomas W. Oliver, which brought on the events of September 29, 2013, and resulted in the serious injuries of Edith and Peter's daughter, Jessica Eden Stephenson," Tommy finished, his face turning red.

"Tommy, don't start anything, okay? Not here, not now," Kim pleaded.

"I…have to get some fresh air, okay?" Tommy said.

"I'll go with you," Jason said as he and Tommy left the waiting room to go outside.

Once outside Tommy got as far away from the hospital as possible and screamed into the night sky. He was cursing and screaming. Jason walked over to him and tried to calm him down.

"Tommy don't draw attention to yourself! I don't want to have to bail you out of jail!" Jason said.

"This is it, Jason. When our identities get out, we're done! Life will be over for us; I know it will!" Tommy said.

"Tommy don't believe that! We got tons of people who would love to do damage control for us, those who were rangers and those who know us well. We got Bianca who's the ranger family lawyer, and Hayley who will defend us." Jason said.

"But what if the damage already has been done?" Tommy asked.

"Like I said, we have connections who will vouch for us."

"Okay. Let's go back inside. We should be hearing something about the twins by now," Tommy said as he and Jason went back inside the hospital.

When they got to the ER waiting room they saw the doctor talking to Kim. Tommy and Jason went up to her.

"Oh there you two are! The doctor here was just telling me about the twins. Doctor, this is my husband, Tommy, and my big brother Jason," Kim introduced Tommy and Jason to the doctor.

"Oh hello Dr. Oliver. I was just telling your wife about the conditions of your children in regards to them being gassed this evening," the doctor said.

"How are they doing?" Tommy asked.

"If you didn't find out the code to the gas machine the way you did, your children would be extremely sick. But you got there quickly so there wasn't that much damage to both their lungs. They suffered some minor inhalation issues from the gas fumes and are receiving oxygen through oxygen masks. They should be back to themselves in a few days."

"Thank you doctor, can we see them now?"

"Yes you can. Right this way," the doctor said as he led Tommy, Jason, and Kim through the ER to the two exam rooms that JT and Amelia were in. A nurse was with Amelia and JT was laying quietly on the cot, with IV's coming out of his arms and an oxygen mask on his face. Kim and Tommy went into JT's room first.

Kim almost cried at seeing her son that way. Tommy patted her on the shoulder.

"JT, it's Mom. Me and Dad are here," Kim said.

"Mom…Dad…tell me it's not true…that you were Power Rangers…" JT said.

"JT now is not the time…" Kim started to say.

"Tell me! Were you both Power Rangers?"

Kim looked at Tommy and sighed.

"Yes, honey, we were Power Rangers."

JT shook his head and pounded his fists into the cot.

"I knew it! You two kept this secret from me and Amelia for years and never told us! And then at Trent's wedding when Mel's cousin's father said that you two were in a cult, it was all true! I can't believe you two! Get out! Now! Don't even see Amelia! Leave, and never come back!"

"JT, our past lives have nothing to do with what Trevor Jr. and Sr. did to you, Amelia, and Jess. It was Trevor Sr's. feud with your father and Uncle Jason," Kim said.

"To hell it did! And Uncle Jason's not even my real uncle, is he?!" JT said.

"Not by blood, no."

"Me and Amelia don't want anything to do with you, Dad, or your so-called "family"!"

"Where are you going to live if you don't want anything to do with us?" Kim asked.

"Grandpa Hart, or Uncle Kenny. At least he's my real uncle!"

Tommy started to make fists with his hands.

"Tommy, we should go, now!" Kim said as she led him away from the room and out of the hospital, with Jason following.

They both drove home in silence. When they got to the house, they packed the four remaining kids' things and had Jan take them to her house for safe keeping.

Kim and Tommy got ready in separate rooms. Tommy retired to the couch in the living room and Kim stayed in the Master bedroom.
