Things do not change; we change.
Henry David Thoreau
April 27, 2007
Joey was curling her hair as she wore a black dress that show every curve in her body as Daisy sat next to her. It had been like this for about 20 minutes and Joey had a couple more pieces left.
"Mommy, does this mean Daddy and you are going to get married?" Daisy suddenly asked.
"What?" Joey particularly yelled but quickly lower her voice knowing that Daisy had no idea what dating was. The only relationship Joey had been in since Daisy was born was Dawson and that didn't end up well. When Daisy heard that Joey and Pacey were going out on a date she was so excited which honestly made Joey nervous. She didn't want her daughter to get her hopes up and be disappointed in them when it didn't work out.
"Because my friend said Mommies and Daddies don't date, they get married..."
"Well baby, this is different because your mommy and daddy are different so instead of getting married right away. We go out and we hang out till we figure out what's happening."
"But do you think it will happen?" Daisy asked. Joey didn't know how to answer this question. It wasn't like she didn't want to marry Pacey it was just in her head she didn't know how she felt at the moment.
Luckily Jen came in suddenly yelling at Joey.
"Joey Potter, who is your date?" Jen asked while rushing in.
"My Daddy," Daisy said with a huge smile.
"Hey, baby why don't you go and pick me out some shoes ok?" Joey said
"Ok, mommy," Daisy said as she ran away from the two adults.
Jen took the curly iron from Joey's hand and started to curl her hair.
"So, Pacey?"
Joey laughed nervously as Jen watched her in the mirror.
"Awe, you are nervous!" Jen said as she smiled at Joey in the mirror.
"Yeah, I am but... it feels like when we first started dating. We were trying to figure out everything and when it felt normal and everything was ok. The time was I let him kiss me and whisper in my ear. I miss that and I want it back."
Jen smiled and was about to say something else when there was a knock on the front door. Joey look at the clock and saw that Pacey was early.
"He is early," Joey said as she walked towards the front door. Daisy came peeking her head in from the hallway.
Joey open the door to see Pacey in a black tux while holding a bouquet of Daisies. She smiled as Daisy came over to her Dad.
"Hi, Daddy!"
"Hey, baby," Pacey said as he picked her up and kissed her cheek.
"Are those for me?" Daisy asked.
Pacey laughed as he shook his head. "Not this time, love. However how about next Friday I take you out for a little date?"
"You want to marry me? Uh no thank you?" Daisy said disgustedly. Pacey looked over at Joey in shock but Joey just mouthed at him later.
"Well, I guess the one mini bouquet will have to wait another day," Pacey said as he put Daisy down who dropped the black shoes for Joey down on the ground.
"Wow. Don't you look amazing." Pacey said as he looked at the woman standing in front of him in awe.
"Don't you forget that, Witter," Jen said to him.
"Trust me, Lindley. I will never forget that." Pacey told Jen. As he watch Joey's cheeks started to turn red.
"These are for you." He said as he handed her Daisies as he softly whispered in her ear. "I don't think it would be appropriate to marry you on the first date but I would any day for as long as I could remember." He then kissed her temple and Joey felt her heart swirl around.
"I just need to put my shoes on," Joey whispered as she watched Pacey's lips two inches away from her. She turns quickly away from him and put the bouquet on the table. She put on her shoes as she felt Pacey's eyes watching her the whole time.
Pacey watched her as Joey kissed Daisy on the forehead. Joey pushed back Daisy's hair as she whispered in her ear do what Aunt Jen tells you to do, okay?
Pacey kissed the top of Daisy's head as Joey put on her jacket. The two walked out but were quickly stopped by Daisy running out for one last hug and kiss. Then they were fully alone. Pacey looked at Joey as he pulled her closer to him and slowly kissed her lips. He pushed back the stray of her hair as their forehead pressed together.
"You know, your daughter is one character," Joey whispered as Pacey kissed behind her ear.
"Oh, my daughter?"
"Yeah. Talking about how dating is marriage... maybe we shouldn't have told her about us going on date because what if we don't end"
"Potter, the date hasn't even started yet. I am sure she will be okay. Because I am positive this will work out."
"How can you be so sure?"
"My whole life, Joey, my whole life you have been the most beautiful thing in my orbit. And my feelings for you were what proved to me that I could be great. And those feelings were stronger and were wiser and more persistent and more resilient than anything else about me."
Joey kissed Pacey without another word. She felt like she was sixteen all over again when they kissed at Aunt Gwen's house by the fire.
"Jo..."
"Hmm..."
"Dinner?"
"Oh yeah, that." She said with a laugh. He took her hand and kissed the top of it as he led her down the stairs and to his car.
The whole way there Joey had this gut feeling that something was going to go wrong but instead of letting it get to her she didn't to avoid the feeling.
Pacey took her to a very nice restaurant and Joey couldn't help but smile at how much older she felt as she sat there looking at the menu across from each other.
"This is one of the nicest restaurants I probably have ever been to, Pace."
"Anything for my lady. You know what you want, yet?"
"Um, how about wine? We got all night."
"Alright, I guess I'm so used to having Daisy at the restaurant. I forget we can order an alcoholic beverage."
"I do the same thing. In fact, I think the last time I drink was on my 21st birthday."
"Yeah, I could tell you were pretty hungover the next time," Pacey said with a wink.
"Was not."
"Was too. Daisy yelled and I couldn't tell your head was spinning."
Joey smiled at him as he took her hand across the table.
"Sometimes I wish I could go back and take care of you when I noticed you were struggling. I'm sorry, I didn't."
"Pacey, you didn't have to take care of me. You know that, don't you? I think you taking great care of Daisy was the only thing you could really do for all those years. Plus, you took care of me in the best way you knew how to. Remember when you took me to Bessie because you knew I needed help. You didn't just leave me for a nap at home while I couldn't stand being in that place, you made sure I was loved and supported. Pace, that was the best thing you could have done at that moment. From the moment, you found out about me being pregnant you literally crawl into my window and took care of me in the best way an eighteen-year-old boy knew how. Thank you for that."
Pacey smiled at Joey with tears in his eyes as she grabbed his hand and kissed it softly. She look into his eye and hold his hand to her lips till the waitress came over.
"What can I start you, folks, off with?"
"We would like two red wines," Pacey said to her.
"Can we also have a chocolate cake and ice cream?" Joey added.
The waitress nodded her head as she walked away.
"Chocolate cake and ice cream?"
"What? I think we need to treat ourselves. Parent night out." Joey said with a shrugged
"We should toast to that when we get our cake, ice cream, and wine. I mean what would our kid truly say about us having dessert before dinner?"
"I think she would not be surprised given the fact that her Dad eats Captain crunch while watching cartoons."
"Hey, it is now frosted flakes!"
"My bad."
Just then Joey's phone rang from her purse. She looked at Pacey who looked back at her.
"I'm not going to get it. It's our night and I'm sure everything is ok." Joey said as the waitress came over with their red wine and chocolate cake. As Pacey was about to raise his hand for a toast his phone rang in his pocket.
"It's Jen."
"Maybe, we should get that. It could be something wrong with Daisy."
Pacey did as he was told and picked up his phone. "Hello?"
"Pacey?" Jack's voice came through the phone.
"Jack?" Pacey said in alarm that Jen's voice didn't come through the phone.
"Hey, Listen. Jen called me and told me that Grams is in the hospital. Apparently, she was at church and she had a heart attack. We don't know what is happening but it doesn't look good. I'll stay with Daisy if y'all want to stay out"
"No, we are on our way. We can get something on the way."
"Alright. Thank you."
"See you soon."
Joey looked at him, her mama bear instinct kicking in.
"So? What happened?"
"Well, I think we should stop at a liquor store on the way home because we can't drink here. We need to go home because Grams is in the hospital. She had a heart attack and things don't look good. Jen is at the hospital and Jack is with Daisy for the time being."
"Oh, geez. Yes, we should definitely go," Joey said and stand up but when Pacey didn't get up she looked at him to see a questionable look in his eyes.
"What? What is it?"
"The check."
"Can't you throw cash on the table and call it done?"
"I have a card not cash," Pacey said as he waved down the waitress.
"Alright," Joey said as she took a bite of the cake. Pacey looked at her and laughed.
"What? You took me to a fancy restaurant and you expect me not to eat the cake. This is a great cake." Joey said. Pacey laughed as the waitress came over and Pacey asked for their check and a to-go box while handing his card to her.
Pacey and Joey quickly stop at the store making sure nobody gets to lock in as Pacey got the wine. Joey walked to get herself some groceries that they were missing like milk and dish soap. As she was walking to meet Pacey at the checkout. She saw him checking out the groceries. Not him as in Pacey but him as Mike Potter. He was checking out everyone's groceries. She didn't even know he was out of prison nevertheless cape side.
"Jo, you coming?" Pacey said as he wrapped her hands around her waist. "Did you really get groceries?" Pacey whispered and kissed her neckline. He then took the soap and milk out of her hands as she put her head on his neck.
"Uh, Pace. Is it ok if I wait in the car? I don't feel so well." Joey whispered as he softly rubbed her back.
"Sure, are you feeling sick? I know Daisy had that bug last week but I thought for sure it would have passed by now."
"I'll be ok, just be quick," Joey said as she lifted up her head and then kissed his cheek.
"I promise I will," Pacey said as he watched her in concern as she walked to the door. He never once looked at the cashier until he got into line and started to put his stuff down.
"Did you find anything you were looking for today?" The cashier said. Pacey knew that voice he had known it for most of his life. It was the sound of Mike Potter's voice. He suddenly got why Joey felt sick.
"Mr. Potter?" He asked as he looked up.
"Pacey Witter, son how are you doing?"
"I'm fine how are you?"
"I am doing well, thank you. And uh…" Mr. Potter hesitated as he scanned the milk and put it in a bag. "How is Joey?" He asked.
"She is doing good."
"She had her baby, didn't she?"
"Yeah, she and I had a daughter. She is five right now. She is a stinker, I'll tell you that. But she is our world that's for sure."
There was a moment of silence as Mr. Potter handed Pacey the bags. "Do you mind telling Joey to call me? I can write my number down. I know I have done her wrong in the past but I want to be in her life."
"Of course," Pacey whispered as he watched Mike quickly give him his receipt after he paid.
"Thank you."
"Of course."
Pacey walked out to the car as he saw Joey sitting by Pacey's car with her hand in her face. Pacey sat down next to her after he went in the front seat and got his wine opener. It was a whole long story on how that happened to be there.
Joey looked up, he could see how red her eye was as she watched him open the bottle. "Pacey, we can't drink now." She whispered.
"No, we can. I called Bessie. She is going to watch Daisy tonight. She taking Daisy to Cape side in the morning and I'll pick her up in the morning. You and I well, we are on a date. And I hate to say it Potter but if sitting here outside if k-mart is our date then well so be it that's our date night."
"You talk to my Dad, didn't you?" Joey said as Pacey handed the wine to her. "I'm ok, Pace. I mean yeah I didn't know he was out but he was obviously intent on telling me he was out. I bet Bessie doesn't even know so really I'm fine."
Pacey handed her the receipt that had the number on the receipt that Mike put. That's when Joey started to sob.
"I'm sorry, Pacey. You planned this whole night and now we are in the parking with an opened bottle of wine and me crying over my Dad. I'm sorry."
"Come here, Potter." He whispered as he pulled her into his arms. He felt like he was in high school all over again when he held her by the dock. Now everything has changed.
"Why don't we go to my place, and you can get some sleep and in the morning. We can talk about how you are feeling. Alright?"
"So, you mean I don't have to decide if I want to talk to him, right now?"
"Of course, not Joey. That's one hundred percent up to you when you want to talk to him."
"But what do you think?"
"I think your Dad was like my Dad in a way but Mike is better. I told Pop that ages ago when I was in high school because well it was true. Of course, your Dad has done some awful things, but he is here and he is trying to make amends for it. You don't have to forgive him all the way but he wants to get to know you. And if I were in the same situation, I think you would have told me the same thing, Jo."
Joey nodded her head and Pacey wiped away her tears. He then helped her up and opened her car door for her.
Once they got to Pacey's place, Joey ask Pacey to unzip her dress. After he did, she was only a bra and underwear. And she slowly took his jacket and shirt off. After that everything was a blur to Joey and Pacey.
The next morning, Joey woke up to see Pacey was out of bed. She took one of his shirts and walk over to the kitchen. As she got closer, she could smell the bacon throughout the apartment.
"Awe, I was hoping to surprise you in bed," Pacey said while he flipped some pancakes over.
"I'm definitely surprised, Pace."
Pacey lost his breath when he turned around and realized she was wearing one of his shirts. He felt like the first time he saw her in one of his clothes.
"Have I told you how amazing you look in my clothes? I think you should definitely come over and wear them more."
"Oh yeah?" Joey said as she wrapped arms around him.
"Definitely, your style." He said and kissed her on her lips.
"Last night was amazing. No, better than amazing."
"Good." He said and kissed her on the forehead.
"Pace."
"Mhm?"
"Do you think I should call my Dad?" Joey whispered as she felt Pacey's finger rubbing her back.
"Jo, what I think shouldn't matter… it's what you think and how you feel?"
"Did you he look ok? I couldn't tell."
"He has definitely changed," Pacey said as he pushed her hair back from her face and then kissed her lips.
Joey was about to say something when her phone started to ring. The caller id said it was Bessie.
"It's Bess." She told Pacey. "Hey, Bessie," She said as she stared at Pacey.
"Yeah, could you put her on the phone?"
There was a silent moment as Joey sat down and Pacey went over and handed Joey her breakfast.
"Hey, baby girl," Joey said.
"Hi, mommy. Are you coming to pick me up soon? Alex and I are wanting to play with Lillian but Aunt Bessie said you will pick me up soon."
"Daddy will pick you up soon. But you can play until he does."
"Can you tell Daddy to not pick me up until bedtime?"
"I don't know, honey."
"Mommy please."
Joey couldn't deal with a tantrum but she knew it was better to state her grounds.
"Daisy, I said no. You have till noon to play and then he will pick you up."
"Fine," Daisy said and Joey could tell she was upset. Joey looked at the clock to see it was only nine.
"You got three hours, that's plenty of time."
"Alright."
"I love you."
"Love you too, mommy."
Joey smiled as she heard the talking background and her sister's voice.
"Joey, are you still there?"
"Yeah, I am still here. Thank you for picking Dais up."
"No problem, but uh… Jo, I am sorry I didn't tell you about Dad."
"It's ok, Bess."
"No, it really wasn't you had a right to know. I thought I was helping you but instead I was just hurting you so I am truly sorry."
"Thanks, Bessie. I understand what you mean. I think I didn't realize how ready I was until I saw him. I think... I think I want him to be in my life but I'm not sure."
"I get it. I mean he hurt you and I in so many ways and it is not going to be easy. But it takes forgiveness, Sis… and most of it takes time. If you want to call him, call him but I will say. He and I are thinking about doing a family dinner but I said I wanted to see how you felt about it. So, if you want to try and start a relationship again. How about you, Pacey and Daisy come over and just start with dinner. Maybe we can get Pacey to cook. How about tonight? Nobody is working and I think it would be good for y'all."
Joey look at Pacey who was sitting next to her eating his food. "Hold on, Bessie."
"Pacey."
"Hm…" Pacey said with a mouth full of food.
"Are you doing anything tonight?" Joey asked.
"Oh no, why?"
"Could you cook for us and my Dad at my place?"
"Yeah of course."
Joey then went back to her phone. "Tell Dad he can come to my place tonight at 7 pm. I am sure Daisy would love to show off her room to Dad."
" I am sure he will love that. Bye, Joey."
"Bye, Bessie," Joey said and then hang up the phone. She put her hand on her forehead as Pacey rubbed her back.
"You alright?"
"Honestly, I don't know."
"Come here," Pacey said and Joey sat in his lap. "Alright, what's on your mind?"
"What if he goes back to jail and he gets close to Daisy? What if he does something and I put Daisy in a situation where she gets close with him and he does something?"
"Jo, honey. We don't know what is going to happen but what we do know is he is here and he wants to be there and you know what… if something happens then at least we can say we tried. But I think… Daisy would love to know Mike and he would love to get to know her." Pacey whispered very carefully to her.
Joey put her head on his shoulder. "Thank you, Pacey."
He softly kissed her head and just held her in his arms.
—-
It was that night and Joey was freaking out to get everything ready. Daisy was cleaning her room while Jen was on the phone with Pacey while he was cooking, and giving him a full update with Grams. Grams was doing a lot better, now they are in the hospital and they are doing a bunch of tests that should be back in tomorrow.
"The rice is looking kind of gummy, Pace," Joey said as she walked behind him.
"Uh, no. It's risotto, Jo, and it's not gummy. It's just absorbing the stuff." Pacey said as he rubbed her back. "Everything is going to be okay. Why don't you go sit down and relax, sweetheart? Or you know what, here talk to Jen."
Joey gave Pacey a look as he hand her the phone. "Hey Jen," Joey said as she went to her table.
"Hey, Pacey tells me your Dad is out?"
"Yeah, we were at the store because we were going to get wine and drink at my place while Daisy was asleep and it ended up with my Dad being the cashier. So, now we are having dinner tonight."
"Wow, that's crazy and you had no idea he was back?"
"Well, apparently Bessie knew. But she thought she was helping me by not telling me. But anyway, how is Grams? What happened?"
"Well, Grams had a heart attack yesterday at church, of course of all places it's a church. But when they took the test. They found something in her heart but then a lump on her breast. So now they think it's two different things and her body is honestly probably just shutting down. But they said they will do surgery on the lump but there are different options with the heart. They still don't know what caused the heart attack."
"I'm so sorry, Jen."
"Thank you, all we can do is just stay here and wait. Which sucks."
"Right, I know what you mean well... Let me know if you need anything? Is Jack with you, now?"
"Uh, he is getting us food while Grams is asleep but he should be back soon."
Joey then heard the doorbell and Daisy ran to the door while Pacey followed behind.
"Hey, Jen. That's them. I got to go, but I'll talk to you soon."
"Good luck."
"Thanks," Joey said and then hang up the phone and then walk to the door. Pacey haven't opened the door yet because he was waiting for Joey.
"You ready?"
"Yeah, I think I am."
Pacey open the door and Bessie, Bodie, Alexander, and Mike Potter were all at the door. Daisy broke the ice right away by hugging anyone even Joey's Dad then taking Alex's hand and dragging him to her bedroom.
"Daisy, don't go far. Daddy just cooked dinner."
Pacey rest her hand on Joey's back as Joey shook her head at how different her daughter was in this situation. She had no idea how stressed out Joey was over the man Daisy hugged not even a minute ago.
"Hi, Dad," Joey said as she hugged him. "Hi, sweetheart."
"Dinner will be ready in about ten minutes, I am just making sure the chicken is cooked."
"Thank you, Pacey." said to him.
"It's not a problem."
"Do you want a drink, Dad?" Joey asked Mike."I'll take a glass of water. Thank you."
"Bessie, Bodie?"
"We'll take water too."
"I'll be right back, make yourself at home. The bathroom is down the hall, and Daisy I am sure will love to see her room. She is very proud of it. Pacey, can you come with me?"
"Of course," Pacey said as he followed her to the kitchen. He took the glasses out of the cabinet and hand Joey them to fill with ice.
"I don't think this was a good idea."
"Jo, we talk about this."
"I know we did but what if it isn't right."
"You are doing great. You are just eating dinner with him, remember? Then you are done." He said as she put the glasses down and hug him. That's when Bessie walked in.
"Awe, look at you two."
"Haha," Joey said.
"You need any help in here?"
"Uh, I think we are about to set up the table, and then we are done. Where is Dad?"
"He is with Bodie on the couch. I think you should keep Daisy out here cause she knows how to put on a dance show."
"Oh did she do that? Dance move yesterday at your house?" Pacey asked and then did a move after he said it.
"Please never do that again," Joey said with a laugh.
"Dais, come out here," Pacey called.
"She did it for about 15 minutes till Alex and Lillian begged her to stop," Bessie told them. Joey chuckled as she got the plates out and started to set up the table.
"Yes?" Daisy said as she ran to Pacey.
"Don't run in the house." Joey reminded her.
"Show Bodie and Mike your dance moves," Bessie said and Daisy ran up to Mike and smile big at him.
"Do you wanna see my moves, Mr. Mike?"
"Alright, let's see it," Mike said and Daisy move her arms in a weird way like Pacey just and she kicked her legs.
"Not again," Alex said as he covered his eyes. Pacey laughed and walked over and ruffle Alex's curly hair.
"Alright, Dais. Wash your hands. It's time to eat." Pacey said as he walked back to the kitchen and put the chicken out of the oven.
"Now that is what I call a good chicken," Mike said as he look over at the chicken.
"Thank you, sir," Pacey said as he cut the chicken and hand a plate to Joey to cut for Daisy.
"I'm done!" Daisy said as she ran up to Joey, Mike, and Pacey.
"Daddy, you cook chicken?" Daisy said as she look over at her plate that Joey was cutting.
"Mhm…" Pacey said as he put a couple of pieces on different plates for each of their guests.
"You act so much like your Dad at his age."
"Really, you knew my Daddy?"
"Oh, yeah he could come to our restaurant. All the time just to annoy your mother."
"Oh, Daddy you so silly," Daisy said as she walked towards the table. Pacey goofily walked over to Daisy and put her upside down on his shoulder.
"Daddy, put me down!"
"Jo, have you seen Daisy. I can't find her."
"Mommy, Daddy. I am right here."
"It is hurting my back to find her. I guess she is going to miss the chocolate cake."
"No, I want the cake. I am right here!"
"Oh, I think I heard her. She is right here." Pacey said and kiss her cheeks as she laughed.
"Daddy was so silly. Mr. Mike isn't Daddy so silly."
"Very silly." Mike agreed and Joey noticed the sadness on her Dad's face as Daisy called her Dad Mister Mike however that was the thing about Daisy's family. She didn't have grandparents who could really help her grow through life and now she didn't even know that she could call Mike grandpa.
"Mommy, is my plate ready?"
"Yes, here you go," Joey said as she handed Daisy the princess plate she normally uses. Then she walked as she walked over to the table and Joey couldn't help but be grateful that Daisy had a young spirit like Pacey. She was everything like Pacey when he was Daisy's age. Joey sometimes forgot about how long Pacey and she had known each other as long as Dawson and Joey have known each other.
Once everyone got to the table with their food, there was little tension in the room. Mike started asking Joey what she does for work Joey told him about how she works as a waitress and recently she has been working with Harley and tutoring her. Then Mike asked what Pacey does and he talked about his office job. Then Mike started talking about the store and how everything was going with that.
As Mike is currently talking about his life, Joey realizes how great Mike was. Many Pacey was right, she just had to give it time for it to work out.
After dinner, Daisy, Pacey, Alex, Bodie, and Mike all got the tour of Daisy's room even though Mike was the only one who hasn't seen her room before while Bessie and Joey wash the dishes.
"He looks good," Joey said to Bessie as she scrub the plate with soap and rinse it off so Bessie could dry it.
"Yeah, he does, doesn't he? I think Daisy likes him."
"It is said that he missed the first five years of her life."
"Well, he is going to be there for a very long time to make up for missing that time."
"You think so?"
"Why don't you tell him yourself?" Bessie said and then point to Mike who walked towards them.
"You girls need help?" Mike said
"Joey will because I heard laughter from the other room that I am missing," Bessie said as rubbed Joey's back and walked away.
"Daisy is definitely a character, she reminds me of you when you were little."
"Really? Joey said as she passed a dish to him.
"Oh, yeah. She definitely has your spirit." Mike said as he dried a dish and put it on the counter
"I always thought she acted like Pacey more."
"Yeah, but at her age, you were the same way. Free and outgoing. You had no worries and that at the time was my favorite part about that age. Because I wanted to keep you away from the hurt and pain that I was experiencing at the time. I am sure as a parent now you understand that."
"I do."
"You have turned into this beautiful woman that I always knew that you would turn into. Pacey and Daisy really love you that is pretty obvious to me. I am happy you get that in your life. You build this life for yourself that is so precious and priceless. You have a man who looks at you the way I looked at your mom at your age. You have a daughter who is kind and raised right and who has a mother and father who truly loves her. I am sorry for how we left things but I hope you know how much I have changed and I want us to be a family again. I know l may never gain your trust again from last time but know you have to know that no matter what I will love you. You know in the recovery program we talked about acceptance and accepting the past. I know that is hard, trust me I am learning to do it myself. But it breaks my heart to hear my granddaughter call me mister instead of grandpa or something. So, I know this dinner was hard but maybe we could try this again sometime. Even if it is just lunch with you and me?"
Joey smiled and slowly took her hands hand. "I would love that, Dad or should I say, Grandpa," Joey said and kissed his cheek. "I love you, Daddy," Joey whispered.
"I love you, too."
—-
That night Pacey put Daisy down while Joey took a shower. He must have got Daisy down fast or she was in the shower for a long time because he joined her in the shower.
"Hey," He said as he got in. Joey handed him the shampoo bottle and without question. He put it in his hand and started scrubbing her hair.
"Thank you for everything you did today, Pace."
"Your welcome." He said as he finished putting the shampoo in her hair. After she washes the shampoo out of her hair. She wrapped her arms around his shoulder, their bodies were touching but Joey just stare at his face.
"Can we just sleep tonight?" Joey whispered.
"Of course."
Joey and Pacey got out and got dressed. Joey started to brush her hair when Pacey ask if he could. She of course said yes and he started to brush her hair.
"You are a really good parent, Pace."
"You are too, Jo."
"I mean like out of all the Dads we have seen you are the best one I know."
"Even Mitch?"
"Well, yeah. Because it is different than Mitch. Mitch always took care of us and love us. But now watching you today it's like Mitch was always Dawson's Dad. I knew him basically my whole life. But I didn't grow up with Mitch like I did with you. I watched you grow to this man who has matured and grown to be this amazing man. Mitch I always knew was a good man. That's why it is different. And that's why I love you. I love how you take care of things, and I love how you are careful with words because you know words affect people. And now watching you cook and put Dais without a word of complaint. I think you are not only the best Dad I know but one of the best men I ever had in my life. And I don't say it often know I love you and I want to thank you."
"I love you, too," Pacey said and turn Joey around and kissed her lips. He looked as if there was more to say but just then Daisy walked in.
"Mommy? Daddy?" She called at the door. Joey was thankful that she came in now before they got more serious in the conversation.
"What's wrong baby?" Pacey said as he put the brush down.
"Can I sleep with you guys?"
"Of course," Joey said as she picked up Daisy and kissed her forehead. Daisy wrapped her little fingers around Joey's hand.
"Mommy?"
"Yes?"
"Am I supposed to call Mister Mike, Grandpa?"
"It's up to you, sweetie," Joey told her.
"Do you think he would like it if I call him Grandpa?"
