Sorry for the short chapter.

Chapter 2:

Interrogation

I woke up with a jolt. All of this sudden change in direction is really killing me here.

"Well you sure took your time," Monika (excuse me, Officer Monika) chimed in from the doorway of a hospital room.

"Where am I?" I asked her.

"You're currently in an undercover base of operations for the International Police," she replied as if that would clear up all of my confusion. Spoiler alert: It didn't.

Luckily, I've been thinking about this for much longer than they know. I woke up silently about 20 minutes prior and formed a plan.

"How did I get here?" I asked. She quirked her eyebrow at this. I smiled internally.

"You were with me as I brought you here, you should know how."

"I… can't seem to recall," I put on my best 'reminiscing' expression and continued. "Actually, I can't remember your name. Do I know you?"

"No, you don't, and the name is Officer Monika. I was hoping you could tell me more about who you are and why you're here." Crap, she's not buying it.

"Last thing I remember was walking with you to your car. I can't remember much before that," I said, faking it as well as I could.

"You were found just inside of a terrorist organization's quarters and you expect me to believe that? Even if you are a civilian, you could've ruined our entire operation!" she yelled at me. This isn't going as well as I thought.

"Monika, I swear I don't know how I got here! Hell, I can't remember who I freakin' am, how would I know you had some kind of spy thing here? You're yelling at the guy who just woke up and can't remember his damn life all of a sudden! How do you think this is for me?!" I screamed back.

Monika clenched her fist around my hospital gown and held me against the wall. "Stop the sick boy act! You're going to tell me everything you know and -"

"Monika, the brain scans confirm a severe concussion. He's telling the truth, go easy on him," someone said as they entered the room. She was a dirty blonde princess-esque preteen in an oversized coat. She had a stethoscope hanging from her neck and completely pulled off the doctor's look - if it weren't for the fact that she's a literal child.

"Excuse me, you're the nurse here?" I asked her with a condescending tone.

If her face didn't make it clear I struck a nerve, her words did: "Nevermind Monika, feel free to hurt him."

"Waitwaitwaitwaitwait wait! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" I gushed out before Monika could end my existence.

"Hmph, my name's Fiona, and yes, I'm your doctor here," she said, still irked.

"Regardless, I'm sure you're pretty confused right now," Monika began, "- but I'd like you to please tell us anything you know about the place I found you at and the people who were there."

"I really don't know. I must've gotten lost from my friends or something…" I replied, pulling off a confused look. Fake it until you make it.

"What are your friends' names?" she questioned.

"Uh… I can't seem to remember…" At this, Monika turned skeptical.

"So you can't remember how you got to where you are, nor the names of your friends?"

I'm not usually a timid guy, but I could feel her asserting dominance just from the way she was standing.

"Not only that, but you also pretended to start waking up right as I came in the door? Vital scans show that you woke up nearly twenty minutes ago." SHIT!

My mind was racing, now, and it was coming up with absolutely nothing to get me out of my current predicament. Kudos to me, I guess.

Suddenly, a loud siren blared to my rescue. I took this opportunity while Monika and the nurse were distracted to look around the room for available resources. Immediately, I took note of a clock on the wall, some medical equipment hooked up to me, a biohazard waste disposal, and a box of latex gloves and surgical masks.

"It's the evacuation alarm from the DRA section," Monika noted. "I didn't think they were testing anything today."

"Well, let's get out of here, then. I'll lock up the interrogation room behind us," Fiona said.

"Wait, that was an interrogation room?!" I yelled, sidetracked. It only just occurred to me that they didn't mean for me to come with. "And what about me?"

"You will stay exactly here and do nothing for the next thirty minutes. Then, we will come back in and determine your fate. Please don't resist." I heard a lock click, and I was alone.
