Konosuba: NN Ch 2

Potion in Motion

The first thing Kazuma noticed when he woke up was that he was not in Whis's shop anymore. As his eyes adjust to the light, he began looking around his current vicinity. He was currently laying in a bed, his own bed actually. He was back home! Though he had no idea how he got here.

Kazuma lifted his hand to his forehead, remembering the glass potion that smashed into it. He carefully moved his hand across the front of his head, searching for any injuries. Thankfully, it was only a bruise from the bottle, and only hurt when pressure was applied to the mark. Thank goodness for his amazing luck.

Suddenly, he felt movement from the left side of the bed. He saw to his left a familiar brown-haired girl, sitting on a chair next to his bed. She was face-down, most likely asleep from waiting for him to wake up. The red-clad mage began to stir from her own slumber as she lifted her head, her eyelids twitching, slowly opening to the morning light outside. She turned her head towards Kazuma and gasped out loud.

"Kazuma! You're awake!" Megumin said, her red crimson eyes staring at him with relief and glee.

"How long was I out." Kazuma asked, shifting in bed to comfortably sit up.

"About all of yesterday. You were really out of it." Megumin answered, sniffling a bit. Kazuma didn't play any mind to it, instead nodding along to what she said.

"I see. Who carried me home?" Kazuma asked his next question.

Megumin shot him a confused look. "Uh, Darkness? She was the only one strong enough to do so. I'd assumed you didn't need to ask that." Megumin responded, knowing her partner's personality really well.

"Ah yes, of course. My bad." Kazuma politely apologized. He started to get up off his bed, having rested up enough, not feeling stiffness of any kind.

Megumin was a bit weirded out by her partner's response. It sounded a lot more... sophisticated. This was not how she knew Kazuma at all, being polite was usually the last thought on his mind when it came to his female comrades. "Hey, are you sure you're okay?"

Kazuma walked over to Megumin, making her stand up as he approached her. He lifted his arms up, causing Megumin to shutter. She was about to slap him for attempting to grope her, but was instead pulled into a warm embrace. The hug was so out of nowhere for her that she almost didn't register it.

"Thank you so much for staying by my side. I'll do my best to repay you one day for your kindness." Kazuma said, almost whispering, as he pulled away from her. He spotted her iconic mage hat on the floor, grabbed it off the floor to place on Megumin's head. She was so stunned and his unexplainable behaviour that she just let it happen as the mage hat got fitted on her head.

"Now let's get some breakfast, shall we?" Kazuma proudly offered to her, turning around to exit his room, looking for a towel to wash off the stench of his own body odour. This left Megumin to contemplate the event that transpired.

"What the hell just happened?!" She said to herself.

(Scene transition)

As Kazuma entered the living quarters after his shower, he spotted Aqua laying on the sofa in front of the fireplace. She was just lounging around, eating an apple to sustain herself. Hearing the footsteps, she lazily lifted herself up to peer over the sofa backboard. Her eyes widened at the conscious man in front of her, causing her to gasp for a second before catching herself. "K-Kazuma?"

"Yes, Aqua?" He said, making sure his full attention was on his team's healer. This new attentive stance he had started to put pressure on Aqua, like she was the lead role in a school play. Aqua quickly got a hold of herself and decided to cope by do what she did best: Retort with snarky comments.

"Well, looks like sleeping beauty has finally awoken." Aqua responded, standing up from the couch, walking towards him with a smug look. "Took your sweet time getting up from bed."

"I know, and I'm sorry. I'll be sure to pay up for lost time. One of my mission's rewards should be enough." Kazuma said, going to his pouch to grab a substantial amount of money.

Aqua, shocked at his sudden generosity, frantically declined the coins. "Wait wait wait, I was joking, okay?" She waved her hands at him to physically decline his offering.

Kazuma stopped in his tracks, dumping the money back into his pouch. "Oh, I see. Sorry for the confusion. Should I apologize by paying yo-?"

"NO!!"

"Very well. Apologies. Now who's ready for dinner?" He said, moving towards the dinner table. Kazuma changed the subject so quickly and respectably, it caused a shock of confusion to appear on the goddess's face.

-Something is very wrong with Kazuma,- Aqua thought. In all the time that she knew him, he was never as nice and responsible as he was acting a few moments ago. Sure, he was a man who cared about what people thought of him, but never to this extent that he would change his whole personality.

-He must be faking it. He must be. No way in hell this is real.- She thought to herself.

(Scene break)

One hour has passed since Kazuma woke up. It was at this time when breakfast was supposed to happen. To everyone's bad luck, no one in this group knew anything about cooking. So the team usually just went to their regular bar, which was also where the missions were being posted. But for some reason, a faint and wonderful aroma was coming from their kitchen, which no one ever used.

As Aqua and Megumin approached the living room, they were absolutely shocked to see a huge feast awaiting them. There was cooked frog, fish sticks, fruit salad, a whole assortment off different delicacies from monsters that they've fought before. There was even a Snow-Sprite in each of the four glasses of water dedicated to each teammate. Kazuma appeared from the kitchen, removing his oven mitts.

"K-Kazuma? You made all of this?" Megumin asked, still in shock from their interaction in the bedroom.

Kazuma nods. "Mhm! I noticed that we didn't have a ton of food in our home, so I cleaned up the kitchen and made a few things for you all. Hopefully you'll love it."

"L-love what, Kazuma?"

That voice came from Darkness. She was training outside since this morning, honing her skills with a sword until the next mission of theirs presents itself. Her focus was broken by a questionable aroma. At first, she started to blush, her mind wondering at what it or who it could be. But as she continued to sniff the scent, she envisioned some tasty food, like what her parents used to make. So she began to investigate the scent, which ended up to her meeting up with her fellow companions.

"Good morning, Darkness. How was your workout this... well, morning?" Kazuma said, waving his hand at her, as to get her attention. However, Darkness seems to be focusing on Kazuma a little too much. She looked like she was focusing on something, a hint of concern on her face.

"Kazuma? You seem... different today. When I look at you now, I don't get the same perverted aura that I usually feel around you. That aura seems to be... gone." Darkness said with concern in her voice.

"I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm glad you're here. We're having breakfast. Why don't we all take a seat and consume this gift given to us from this wonderful world." Kazuma said happily, taking his own seat.

Though as soon as the healer and mage of the group started to take their seats, they were pulled up by Darkness and thrown into a girls-only group huddle. Darkness quietly spoke first, wearing a blush on her cheeks.

"What the hell happened to our perverted Kazuma?!"

To be Continued...

So... I was hoping to post this chapter along with another one of different fanfic on the same day, but after awhile, I didn't think it was worth it. Sorry for the delay, and I'll probably post more chapters now that that roadblock is gone!
