AN: Hello everyone. I don't know if I've said it before, but there will be elements of the games and anime in this story. Once again I apologize for the wait, but I've been in love with Pokémon Legends: Arceus and have some ideas that I will be including. However, what those ideas are, well you'll have to wait and see. However, I will be including a Cynthia-based chapter for the investigation and search for Fen's aunt.

Chapter 6: May's first Contest and Cerulean Gym battle.

It's been 3 days since Fen arrived in Cerulean City with Cynthia. He was a little disappointed that Cynthia had to leave the morning after they arrived, but when she said it was League business, he understood. They both agreed to keep in touch once in a while.

During the last 3 days, the Hoenn native had conquered the Nugget Bridge that happened to be run by a Team Rocket Recruiter. Unfortunately for the criminal, the raven-haired boy not only trounced his team but tied up all 5 trainers on the bridge and contacted the Officer Jenny of Cerulean City to get them imprisoned. He even turned over the Nugget he 'won' as evidence of the bribe they were using to recruit people into Team Rocket. After that he trained along the surrounding routes, training his Pokemon and getting them all to around level 23.

"Hmm, Seems your close to evolving Chomper." Fenreld said thoughtfully. "I'm sure Cynthia and your Mom would be happy to hear that when we talk to them again."

The Land Shark Pokémon nodded happily jumping up and down, excited to be one step closer to being a strong Garchomp like his mother. However, off to the side, Kirlia was in deep thought.

"Hey, Fen?" The Emotion Pokémon asked hesitantly.

"What is it Kirlia?" He asked looking concerned. "You're usually not hesitant to speak your mind, so what's wrong?"

"The rest of the team and I...would like nicknames as well." She said shyly, blushing slightly. "It's...feels more personal for us... a sign of affection."

Let it be known that currently Fen only had Pidgetto, Charmeleon, Gible, and Kirlia on him at present having sent the other Pokémon back to Professor Birch for relaxation and to allow the Professor to observe and research them.

"I take Chomper getting his nickname is what triggered this?" Fenreld asked getting a nod in return. "Alright, give me time to come up with names for you guys. For now, we should get back. May's contest should be starting soon and you know she'll be upset if we miss it."

Kirlia giggled and nodded. So, Fen recalled Chomper and had Kirlia use Teleport to get back to the Centre, startling the trainers in the lobby. Nurse Joy however was used to it over the last few days of them popping in and just waving at them.

"Hello, you two. Finished with your training for the day?" The pinkette asked kindly.

"Not really. We just have a promise to keep." The Hoenn Native said with a shrug before asking. "Is there anywhere we can watch Pokémon Contests from other regions?"

"Umm, if it's an official League event you should be able to watch in the lobby here." She said, not completely sure. "I must admit I am intrigued to see these contests you've mentioned. My cousins in Hoenn are judges as well."

Just as she said that the monitors in the room all sounded off with an official alert notice. "Before we turn over to the Staleport City Contest in Hoenn, we have an emergency announcement. For the foreseeable future, Saffron City will be closed off to all travelers by order of the League. Anyone trying to enter or leave the city will be asked to turn around. The League apologizes for any inconveniences this black may cause.

Now we turn it over to Slateport City."

'Huh. Is that what Cynthia was talking about? But why are they...?' Fenreld thought before realizing what was going on. 'I guess I have to thank her next time we see each other.'

"Hey, that's what Cynthia was talking about right? Seems too convenient for the league to close off one of the locations your Aunt passed through after you told her about Mount Moon." Kirlia asked privately.

"Yeah, I think so... She seemed concerned and wanted to help."He replied with a smile. "I hope she finds Aunt Diane soon... even if she's likely going to medical attention when she's found."

"Hello, everyone around the world and welcome to Slateport City Pokemon Contest, the first contest of the season! I'm your host Vivian! Now, let's meet our judges. First, we have Mr. Contesta from the Organization Committee. Next, we have Mr. Sukizo from the Pokémon Fan Club, and finally, Staleport City's very own Nurse Joy!

Now then, Coordinators are competing for the chance to win the Slateport Ribbon, and if they win 5 Ribbons, they become eligible to compete in the Grand Festival for the prestigious Ribbon Cup and the title of Top Coordinator!"

Vivian said over the television. "First round will be the Appeal Round where the Coordinators show the beauty of their Pokemon and their moves! Only 8 Coordinators will move on to the Battle round where strength and beauty must be combined in perfect unison. That means Coordinators must have some aptitude for battling.

With that all explained and out of the way, let's meet our Competitors!"

First to walk out was May, who gave a graceful, regal-like wave. Next was a green-haired pretty boy who gave a smirk carrying a red rose who looked like he was used to getting what he wanted. After him was a guy dressed like a Cactrune with a very sly smirk, giving off the vibe that he'd do anything to win. Next is a beautiful young woman with long salmon hair with an air of confidence. The other Coordinators were ordinary-looking and didn't look like they had the confidence or experience to make it far.

"First up we have a young trainer from Petalburg City, May Maple! Next up is Drew from LaRousse City! Then we have a Slateport City native by the name of Harley! Next up we have someone who has traveled all the way from Kanto, hailing Pewter City, it's Solidad!"

'...I don't trust Drew or Harley... Solidad looks like she's the only honorable one of them. Harley is going to try something fishy and Drew is pissing me off just looking at him. If he tries anything with May, he better hope that I don't meet him when I get home!' Fenreld thought to himself clenching his fist and ignoring the other introductions.

"Now with introductions out of the way, let's spin the roulette wheel to see the order for the Appeal Round!" Vivian said motioning to the screen! "Looks like May Maple is up first! With it being her first time in a contest, I wonder how she'll do? Would everyone else please step off the stage?"

May stood there with total confidence, knowing she's trained the best she could and she trusted her Pokémon. She knew Fenreld was watching and she was going to win this for him and Kirlia. So taking a deep breath, she started her performance. Starting off with a game of String Shot Catch with a frizbee and finishing strong with a Stun Spore/Silver Wind combo for a stunning finish.

"That was absolutely beautiful! The coordination they had with the game of catch was very inventive and that combination of Stun Spore and Silver Wind was truly a sight to see!" Nurse Joy said giving the brunette an 8.9 out of 10.

"Simply Remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo said giving a 9.4.

"It's easy to see she's been training hard and has complete confidence in herself as well as her Pokémon. Though it also seems she has a purpose given the look in her eyes." Mr. Contesta said giving a 9.5.

"Indeed I think everyone noticed that look in her eyes."The Host said cheerfully. "May before we get to your score, tell us: what has you so motivated today?"

"Oh! Ummm." The poor brunette said blushing slightly. "My childhood friend moved to Kanto after a tragedy and is currently taking the Gym Challenge over there with his Pokémon. I want to win not only this contest but the Ribbon Cup for when he comes home."

"You don't mean..." Vivian said in shock before nodding as did Mr. Contesta. "That is very noble of you May. We wish you luck in your endeavor.

And your score is an amazing 27.8. Very well done for your first contest!"

May merely bowed and hurried off stage while everyone in the crowd was in a hushed murmurer seemingly knowing what tragedy the Petalburg native was talking about. After all, anything related to Teams Magma or Aqua was news to spread quickly.

In the Cerulean City Gym, Fenreld groaned while blushing since every trainer their turned their gaze to him and Kirlia, with Nurse Joy giggling at his embarrassment.

"My, if that isn't romantic, I don't know what is... You treat her right young man. A girl with that much dedication is rare to come by." The pinkette said teasingly.

'Damn it Vivian... why did you have to question May...' He asked himself just wanting to disappear. So he excused himself and made to his room to watch the rest of the match in private knowing May would be calling shortly after the contest was over, but not before asking Nurse Joy to forward the call from Slateport City to his room that he would be expecting after the contest was over.

[Slateport City]

A certain pretty boy was fuming. Ever since he laid eyes on her those two days ago when she arrived in town, he knew he wanted her for himself. Even more so hearing her last name, knowing she was the daughter of a well-respected Gym Leader. But hearing that she competing for the idiot that lost his parents to Magma pissed the rose-carrying teen off to no end.

"Tough luck Drew. A girl with that much dedication and loyalty won't be swayed by your pretty boy act." Harley said condescendingly. "Honestly, that kind of love makes me shiver with excitement. This boy must be something special! I can only hope I meet him someday!"

"Shut it, Harley! The damn fool is all the way in Kanto right now! Even if they are in constant contact, there is no way she will remain devoted to him. She'll need companionship outside of her Pokémon eventually." Drew snarled.

'Hmm I'll have to be that companion, I won't have a girl's heart played by a playboy. Besides, I feel I can help her achieve her goal by becoming her mentor.' Solidad thought to herself, glaring at the Rose-wielding pretty boy.

Solidad was up next and used her Butterfree to give her future protégé a fighting chance against her being able to blow away the rest of the competition. She goes with a Sleep Powder/Gust combo and finishes off with Confusion to control combo into a magnificent explosion of glitter in various colors showcasing her years of experience hoping to catch the young brunette's attention. This performance earned her a 29.2 in total.

Drew came out with his iconic Roselia partner using Petal Dance, Stun Spore, and Magical Leaf combo to dazzle everyone, at one point making it seem like his Roselia disappeared from the stage. This earned him a 28.9 much. Harley, who had taken an interest in the little Petalburg girl, used his Spinarak to put out combos of Night Shade and Venoshock giving off a chilling display of his usual creepy beauty only to finish off the combination with Poison Sting and String Shot creating a display of a spider's web with poison sickles dangling down earning a solid 29 points. The other 44 contestants did very well some not making 20 points.

With the Appeal Round over, Vivian once again takes Center Stage. "What a thrilling display given by all of our competitors! Give them all a round applause!"

After a moment of thunderous applause, she spoke again. "Now then, let us see who has moved on to the Battle Round!"

On the screen May, Drew, Harley, and Solidad all made it to no one's surprise along with a few that actually surprised the viewers due to how clumsy they were but they did need 8 trainers for the final part of the contest.

"Alright! Congratulations to our 8 finalists!" Vivian said getting more applause. "Each Contestant will now be randomly selected to see who will face! Of course, there were will be 3 stages of the Battle Round and with normal battles, the contestants must win in order to move on to the next stage! However, it isn't just about brute strength! Countering your opponent's moves and making a spectacle out of it will reduce points from your opponent. Should your points be reduced to zero or your Pokémon is declared unable to battle your opponent will move on to the next round."

After the roulette finished the matches were decided: May vs some kid from Lavaridge Town, Drew vs some girl from Fortree City, Harley vs someone from Verdanturf Town, and finally Solidad vs someone from Rustboro City.

The first round wasn't anything exciting, the 4 true coordinators annihilated their opponents moving on to the semifinals. May would be lying to herself if she said she wasn't nervous. She knew she was about to go up against experienced Coordinators and she was well aware of the lecherous leer of the green-haired pretty boy, the same one she was about to face shortly.

"May, was it?" The brunette was brought out of her musing and looked up to see the only other female competitor standing across from her with a kind smile. "Nervous?"

"Oh, Solidad." May said getting up and dusting herself off. "Yeah, I guess. I may be the daughter of a Gym Leader, but I don't have much experience battling... It's been less than a month since I started out with my starter from Professor Birch."

"You'll do fine. Just focus on your goal and tune everything else out." Solidad said in a sisterly voice. "And ignore whatever Drew has to say. He's going to try and get under your skin, make you lose your cool, be it in anger or embarrassment."

"Yeah. I've noticed him eyeing me like I'm a slab of meat." The brunette nodded before lamenting. "Sometimes I curse being an early bloomer."

"You're childhood is a lucky boy." The Salmon-haired teenager smirked knowingly earning a massive blush from May. "Don't try to deny it. You wouldn't be this determined if you didn't love him."

"May Maple, please report to the Contest Stage." Nurse Joy's voiced sounded over the PA.

"Guess I gotta go." The Petalburg native said steeling herself.

"Remember: Tone everything else out. Believe in yourself and your Beautifly." The Kantonian said waving the young Coordinator off with a smile, getting a nod in return.

"See you in the finals." May said with a confident smirk as she walked off.

On the stage, Drew stood there with an overconfident smirk, looking as if he had already won the whole thing. May scoffed thinking he was a pompous prick.

"Alright! The first round of the Semi-finals is about to begin!" Vivian announced off to the side with the judges. "Contestants, send out your Pokémon."

May sent out her Beautifly while glaring at the rose-wielding who sent out his Roselia with the same cocky smirk.

"You should just give up now. Being a Gym Leader's daughter doesn't mean you can win here. This is a whole other kind of battle." Drew said condescendingly.

"Just shut up pretty boy. Are you sure you shouldn't be off at a modeling gig right now instead of somewhere to showcase a Pokémon's beauty?" May countered only to piss off the green-haired boy.

"Alright you two, let's keep it clean." The MC said sternly before motioning for the roulette to start to see who gets the first move. "Drew gets the first move! Let the first round of the Semi-Finals begin!"

"Roselia, let's teach this upstart a thing or two with Magical Leaf!" Drew shouted irately.

"And Drew starts off with a magnificent Magical Leaf, Miss Maple might be in trouble!" Vivian announced, providing commentary for the audience that can't hear the battle commands.

'Magical Leaf is a move that never misses. He's aiming to get a head start.' May thought as she quickly thought of a way to stop it. "Beautifly! Wrap yourself in a Silver Wind like the Appeal Round!"

"What's this? Beautifly has wrapped itself in a beautiful Silver Wind!" The MC said in astonishment.

It was then that the Magical Leaf hit the Silver Wind before dispersing into a gorgeous display of multi-colored glitter earning applause from the live audience!

"May's Silver Wind gambit paid off! Wrapping itself in a veil of the Bug-type move stopping the Never-miss Magical Leaf in its tracks! Truly an ingenious move on her part!" Vivian said in astonishment as Drew's points took a hit for having his move blocked.

"Indeed, I've never seen anything like it. Miss Maple has a bright future in Contests if she keeps coming up with moves like this!" Mr. Contesta said while giving his own applause.

"Absolutely Remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo said brightly.

"Absolutely Beautiful! She's definitely got a bright future that's for sure!" Nurse Joy said in adoration.

Off to the side, Solidad was impressed. 'She might not need my guidance after all... That was brilliant! I will still make my offer after the contest.'

Drew was absolutely livid that this rookie came up with a new technique that has never been done before. "ENOUGH! Roselia, Sleep Powder!"

"Counter with Air Cutter!" May commands staying calm knowing her opponent was losing his cool.

The Air Cutter cuts through the Sleep Powder and hits the Thorn Pokémon's head causing the green-haired boy to lose even more points.

"And May counters Drew once again, cutting through his attempt to put her Pokémon to sleep! Will he be able to make a comeback?" Vivian asked silently cheering for the Petalburg Native.

'This little-!' The LaRousse native growled. "Petal Dance!"

"Beautifly, let's keep it going with Silver Wind!" May said getting more confident in her abilities.

And once again the brunette's move destroys her opponent's move, the applause getting louder. Vivian relaying the battle excitedly. However, Drew wasn't deterred.

'If I'm going to go down then I'm not going to be taken out without landing a hit of my own! She's just used Silver Wind so she doesn't have the means to stop Magical Leaf again!' He thought before commanding his Roselia. "We're not going to be taken out without a fight! Roselia! Magical Leaf!"

However, May wasn't worried, she may have just used Silver Wind, but she had another move that could be used as a Counter Shield. "Use Gust the same way you used Silver Wind in the Appeal!"

And once again the Magical Leaf attack was stopped before it could hit its target, and before Drew could issue his next command, Vivian spoke up.

"THAT'S IT! ALL OF DREW'S POINTS HAVE BEEN DEPLETED!" She announced excitedly. "After an astounding performance, May completely dominates the match and moves on to the final round!"

May jumped up in excitement and hugged her partner in celebration. "We did it! We're in the finals!"

After Drew got off the stage, he finally lost his cool. "How could I have lost to that busty newbie!"

"You were overconfident, Drew. She, however, kept her cool and focused on the battle, using her experience she got from probably watching her father's gym battles. That Counter Shield though or whatever you want to call it that, was ingenious. You have to give her props for that." Solidad said with a smirk.

"She's right you know. I know I'm impressed." Harley said exuberantly. "Vivian was right, if she keeps on the path that she's on, she'll go far."

"And she has a clear goal in mind. She's not competing solely for herself." The Salmon-haired said, losing her smirk. "And if I am to believe the word from home, her friend, Fenreld, is becoming a powerful trainer. He and his Kirlia took down Brock, the Gym Leader of my hometown, out with relative ease, only losing a Mankey to Brock's Onix... which in turn got manhandled by Kirlia. He's made a name from himself as the Lone Wolf of Hoenn... Refusing to travel with anyone."

"Fen is very strong. He arrived in Cerulean City three days ago, making it through Mt. Moon in less than 2 days." May said walking in on the conversation, leaving out part of him befriending Cynthia and obtaining a Gible from her. "He's going to be coming home after he finishes his journey in Kanto to take on the Gym Challenge here and aim to defeat Champion Steven Stone."

"Tch, targeting the Champion? He's setting his sights a little high isn't he?" The green-haired Coordinator scoffed before laying on the charm "Besides... taking the challenge in another region, leaving a blooming flower-like yourself. If I were him I wouldn't have left, even if I had family elsewhere."

"HE LEFT BECAUSE BEING HERE WAS TOO PAINFUL FOR HIM!" The brunette snarled. "He just lost his PARENTS! His home burned to the ground! ON HIS BIRTHDAY NO LESS! Would you want to stay next door to the ruins of your family home? Or would want some time away?"

"Relax May, remember what I said before your match. You're not finished with the Contest yet." Solidad said putting a hand on the younger girl's shoulder.

"Right." May said taking a deep breath to calm herself.

"As for you Drew." the Salmon-haired teenager said as he turn. "Lay...off! She's right. The poor boy lost his parents and probably needed time away... I know I would be the same way. Having his last family member reach out for him was probably just what he needed."

"Tch, whatever." Drew scoffed. "Even IF he is in contact with you, what's to stop him from finding someone in Kanto and choosing to remain there?"

Before May could retort he walked with a dismissive wave leaving her fuming. She was thankful that Solidad gave her a gentle squeeze to remind her of her advice to calm down.

"Jerk... I bet he wouldn't be saying that if he knew Fen was watching the matches. He promised he would watch them all." the brunette said lowly.

"And I'm sure he is. You're going to call him immediately after this right?" the salmon-haired older girl said softly.

"If he doesn't call first, yeah." May nodded.

"Oh don't you let rosy get under your skin darling." Harley said surprising Solidad. "It's supposed to be my job to unnerve people and get under their skins."

'And there it is.' Solidad and May laughed lightly.

"Will Harley and Solidad please report to the contest stage?" Nurse Joy requested over the PA.

"Good luck you two, and may the better coordinator win." May said with a calm smile.

"Regardless if we meet in finals or not May, I'd like to talk to you afterwards." The pinkette said, returning the younger girl's smile, getting a nod in return.

"How lovely to see friendship blooming between rivals! Honestly making me queasy so I'm heading out." The Cacturne wannabe said before walking off.

Solidad just sighed before giving the younger girl a thumbs up and walks off to face Harley. However, the battle was very one-sided due to Butterfree having latent Psychic abilities and access to flying moves, therefore the Pewter City native dominated the match knocking Harley's Spinarak out in two moves.

Afterwards, the fear coordinator walked off the stage in a huff while Solidad remained on the stage knowing May would be right out. When the young trainer walked out, the crowd erupted into applause and cheers. However, the pinkette was pleased to see her new friend following her advice and blocking out the crowd.

"It's time for the final round! Both of these lovely competitors absolutely dominated all of their matches and both are using butterfly Pokémon from their representative regions! Who will come out on top and win the Slateport Ribbon!" Vivian announced feeding off the crowd's excitement. "Are you two ready?!"

Seeing the two Coordinators nod, the MC started the battle. "May the best Coordinator win! Show us what you got!"

"I'm not going to go easy on you May. You said that he's watching? Show him your determination by taking me down and winning this ribbon!" The Pewter City native said sternly.

'I have to win this for both Fen and I!' May thought while nodding to her opponent. "Spotlight Beautifly! Let's do this!"

'Good, she's got a good look in her eyes.' Solidad thought to herself silently throwing out her Butterfree.

'Alright, I'm going to have to be careful. I've seen that Butterfree has Confusion and likely Psybeam. Aside from that I know very little about this Pokémon.' The brunette strategized as she waited for the turn roulette to determine who goes first.

"Solidad wins the roulette! Let the battle begin!" Vivian said with excitement.

"Butterfree, let's start with Sleep Powder!" The older Coordinator commanded her Pokémon causing it to sprinkle a blue-ish powder towards the other Butterfly Pokémon.

"Send it back with Gust!" May said trying to keep her nerve.

"And once again, May shows her strategic mind by using Gust to not only putting the Kanto Butterfly Pokémon to sleep but dealing super effective damage!" The MC announced the play-by-play. "Let's hope that Butterfree wakes up soon or this will be a short battle!"

'Well done May, the longer my Pokémon is asleep the more points I lose.' Solidad thought while keeping a confident look not giving anything away.

'She's handing me the battle! It must have something to do with what she wants to talk to me about afterwards.' The Peterburg City native thought, glaring at her opponent. "Hit it with an Air Cutter before it wakes up!"

"And May follows up with a devastating Air Cutter!" Vivian said excitedly. "And even after being hit by two moves, Solidad's Butterfly is still fast asleep and losing points fast!"

The pinkette just stood there looking undeterred with the brunette having had enough and ordered a Tackle as to try to wake up the Butterfree, not that it mattered.

"THAT'S IT! After only a minute into the battle, Solidad has lost all of her points!" The MC said with the crowd erupting into fierce applause. "May wins the Slateport Ribbon and makes the first step into entering the Grand Festival! Congratulations!"

May doesn't feel really earned the Ribbon she took it with a big smile, thanking her Beautiful for her great work before returning her Butterfly to her ball. Solidad had done the same and joined in on the applause and if the brunette looked off to the waiting room, she would have seen Harley clapping as well with a knowing look.

"Normally we'd interview our winning Coordinator, however, due to our new worldwide broadcasting, we're running short on time. So, I will have to cut this short by announcing the location of the next Contest!" Vivian said with a big smile. "Next contest is in Verdanturf Town in exactly one month! We hope to see you all there! This is Staleport City Contest Hall signing out!"

"So, care to tell me what that was about?" May asked the older girl sternly.

"If you mean throwing the match... Well before I overheard Drew talking about trying to worm his way between you and your childhood friend with less than honorable desires." The older woman said simply. "That boy has a reputation as a playboy and a homewrecker with his parents fully supporting his actions. So I decided I'd offer to travel with you to help fend him off, and after seeing your talent in the Appeal Round, I thought that while travelling with you, I'd pass on what I know."

"What about the Grand Festival, wasn't that what you were aiming for?" The brunette asked curiously.

"I can try again in the next region down the road. I have a few Ribbon Cups back home." The Pinkette responded with a shrug.

"Well, we'll have to run it by Fen... He promised not to travel with anyone, so I feel I should do the same. However, if we explain the situation regarding Drew, I think he'll be more than willing to agree." May theorized.

"Well, let's get to the Pokémon Centre and give your man a call." Solidad teased.

"We're too young to worry about that..." May groaned blushing up a storm earning a "yeah huh" from the older girl.

[Cerulean City]

"I knew she'd win, just didn't expect the finalist to throw the battle like that." Fenreld said as he turned off the monitor and waited for the call from May.

"Yeah, and from the look on her face, the Sleep Powder was a test and intended to lose. If anything, I think we should expect to see when May calls." Kirlia said thoughtfully while standing on the bed so she could be seen when their friend calls.

"Yeah, I think you're right...and I think it has something to do with the green-haired kid. Something about him pisses me off." the Ravenette scowled.

"Incoming call from Slateport City Pokémon Centre." The video monitor sounded.

"Must be May." He said getting a nod in return from his partner as he answered the call to see he was correct. "Hello May, Congratulations on your victory."

"Thanks... though Solidad here threw the match for me." May said with a scowl.

"I wonder why..." Fenreld asked dully before realizing the pinkette was in the call as well. "Apologies for the rudeness. I'm Fenreld and this is my partner Kirlia."

"No worries, I know you and May are close." Solidad said with a knowing smirk. "As for why... I overheard planning to attempt to sway Young May here away from her loyalty to you by attempting to take advantage of her 'lack of companionship' outside of her Pokemon and your occasional calls."

"...I see. I knew there was something about him that I didn't like from just looking at him." He growled with Kirlia's eyes start glowing with her Psychic Power. "He had better hope that he doesn't meet us when we get home. Kirlia's making some...rather colorful promises."

"You two are so protective... Thank you." The brunette said softly.

"Don't worry about your sweetheart. I threw that match for a reason if you remember." Solidad said with a smirk, crossing her arms under her bust. "I have offered May the opportunity to learn everything I know about the contest scenes. However, that would mean traveling with her and she wanted to get your approval since you have sworn to not travel with anyone during your journey through my homeland."

"Well, that's true for the most part... I did travel through Mount Moon with someone, but we will discuss that when it's safe to do so. It's too public on your end." The ravenette. "Anyway, I would be remiss if I didn't let May learn from an obviously experienced coordinator. I'll bet you have a few Ribbon Cups of your own already."

"One or two are sitting back home." Solidad said, shrugging it off like it was nothing major.

"Thanks, Fen! I promise to train hard and win that Ribbon Cup this year." May said excitedly.

"I know you will. Just be careful, a guy like Drew won't give up easily." Fenreld said seriously before turning to the older teenager. "And if you want to know what I meant about my travels in Mount Moon, talk to May in private and don't say a word about it to anyone else. I'm placing my trust in you."

"Must be pretty juicy if you don't want it getting out." Solidad said with interest. "Very well. I'll get all the details from May when we're alone. I imagine there are more details I'll need to know if I'm going to be traveling with her."

"Just try not to freak out when you hear everything." He said with a smirk before turning to his childhood friend. "By the way May, I'll be giving Kirlia and the rest of my team nicknames."

"Lemme guess, Chomper sparked some jealousy in her and your other Pokémon." May said with a giggle, getting a nod from her childhood friend and a questioning look from her mentor. "Got any names lined up?"

"Yeah, I was thinking of giving our common friend and my partner a fitting name given her unique status... Titania, the Queen of the Fairies. For my Charmeleon, Spyro, and for my Pidgetto, Aviary. I have a few nicknames in mind for the others I plan to catch." Fenreld said earning a blush from his partner.

"Yeah, I agree. Titania does fit our dear friend." the brunette said with a big smile. "Now, I'm going to get some food, that contest really took a lot out of me. You go win that second badge, I expect to hear from you soon about your victory."

"I have a little more training before I take on the Cerulean Gym, but I will contact you as soon as I win. Will you be hanging around Slateport City for a few days?" He asked.

"That's the plan. The beach and surrounding routes should provide excellent training for the next contests. We do have a month before the next contest, so no need for us to rush." Solidad replied seriously.

"Alright. Try not to be too hard on her alright?" The Ravenette said playfully. "I'll talk to you two later."

With that, the call was ended with Kirlia still flustered as she asked. "You want to give me the name Titania?"

"What? You don't like it?" He asked his partner curiously.

"It's not that! I love it, but it is also a bit embarrassing. I'll have to live up to the name." The Emotion Pokémon said shyly.

"Come on, we've got training to do. Chomper is close to evolving and I know you and the others want to completely dominate this gym." Fenreld said with a smirk.

"Right, but we should be careful though, Water types can learn Ice-type moves, which two of us are weak against... especially so for Chomper." Kirlia said sternly getting a nod in return.

[That night – Staleport City]

"So you're telling me that Fenreld has access to a top-secret room, at first for heroics, but is now technically an Assistant to the Pokémon Professor in Kalos because his Kirlia is not only shiny but has a sub-typing native to Kalos called Fairy type...? On top of that, the person he traveled with through Mount Moon was the one and only Champion of Sinnoh, Cynthia?" Solidad asked May when they were in their rented room at the Pokémon Centre.

"That's right." May said with a smirk. "He has been a massive fan of hers for the longest time. She's what he aspires to be. A strong and ruthless trainer in battle but a compassionate person outside of battle. He got a message from her while training in Viridian City to meet her at the rest stop on the Pewter City side of Mount Moon. There she tested the bond between him and Kirlia, where while he lost the battle, he passed her test earning an Egg from her famous partner, Garchomp."

"So Chomper... it's a Gible from that egg?!" The pinkette exclaimed getting a nod in response. "Sweet Arceus... To meet the Goddess of Battle herself and end up befriending her through the journey through Mount Moon. How lucky can a guy get?"

"He's one of a kind for sure." May said wistfully.

"He's got just about every privilege a trainer could want... The money alone he's likely saving with that top-secret room alone is going to be a massive help to him." Solidad said in shock.

"He did say to try and not freak out when I told you everything." The brunette said somewhat smugly.

"How on earth is anyone supposed to not freak out hearing that? Do you know what the Kalos Professor wants his help with?" The pinkette asked, now exhausted from everything.

"Something about a special evolution that can only happen during battle. I don't know the details." May said shaking her head.

"Hmm, likely top-secret, something he can't share, even with you." Solidad mused.

"We should get some sleep. I don't want to fall behind Fen and I imagine you could use the rest of the night to process everything." The Hoenn Native said with a smirk getting a tired glare from her mentor before she relented.

[2 days later – Cerulean City]

Fenreld and his team had spent the last 2 days training, everyone had their own special nicknames and was ready to face against the Gym Leader. He had met up with a Pokémon Researcher by the name of Bill that needed help with some research and got a ticket to the high-class cruise ship, the S.S. Anne. Chomper had evolved into Gabite learning Dual Chop and everyone reached level 25 and all of them were ready. He caught and trained up an Oddish as an ace in the hole. The now Gloom named Blossom was excited for the gym battle, even if she knew there was the possibility of Ice-type moves and that Titania was the true team ace.

"It's time. Everyone ready?" Fenreld asked all of his Pokémon.

"We're ready. We're going to make you proud of us! Blossom, Chomper, Aviary, and I are ready to go. Spyro is upset he can't fight, but understands he'd be at a massive disadvantage." Titania said for the team.

"Don't worry Spyro, I'll be counting on you for Celadon City. They specialize in Grass types." He said with a smirk earning a feral grin from the Flame Pokémon before recalling his team except for his faithful partner. "Let's go. We have a badge to win."

On the way to the Gym, he was the centre of attention. It seemed that his arrival with the Goddess of Battle was still the talk of the town, everyone glaring at him with jealousy and envy. Thankfully no one try to approach him and gave him a wide berth.

'Geez, don't they have something better to do?' The Ravenette thought to himself with the Emotion Pokémon ready to defend her trainer if the bystanders tried anything.

Once they walked into the Gym and up to the reception counter. The clerk looked up tiredly before addressing the young man.

"Welcome to the Cerulean City Gym... Are you here for the Under Water Ballet or for a Gym Battle?" She asked in a bored tone.

"I'm here for the Gym Battle. I could care less for the Under Water Ballet." Fenreld said dully.

"And how many badges do you have?" The receptionist asked.

"One. This will be my second badge." He said dully.

It was then at the woman behind the counter realized who she was talking to, finally noticing Kirlia next to him. "Ahh, the infamous Lone Wolf of Hoenn. The young man who walked into town with Champion Cynthia less than a week ago. Very well I will let Sensational Sisters know you are here. They have been waiting for your arrival."

"They've been waiting for me?" The ravenette asked, actually shocked.

"Oh yes, especially after the Slateport City Contest. They love a good romance story." She said in a singsong tone.

'Great...' Fenreld sighed. "Can you just go and let them know already?"

"Of course!" The receptionist said as skipped off.

"Well, seems things will be interesting thanks to May's contest." Titania teased knowing that it wasn't going away soon.

Less than two minutes later, the receptionist returned and motioned for them to follow her. After following her through Aquarium filled hallways, they arrive at the Gym's battlefield, a giant pool with floating platforms for land-based Pokémon. Standing at the end of the pool were three young women, 18 – 19 by the looks of them, all wearing skimpy bikinis and swimsuits in varying colors that matched their hair color.

"Welcome to the Cerulean Gym Lone Wolf. I am Daisy and these are my sisters, Violet and Lily. Together we're the Sensational Sisters." Daisy said extravagantly. She had Orangish-blonde hair with brown eyes. Her sister, Violet, had blue hair, and Lily had pink hair, and both like Daisy, had brown eyes.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Fenreld, this is Titania, my Kirlia and first-ever Pokémon." Fenreld said seriously.

"Well isn't she a darling. We've been waiting for you two since that contest in Slateport and done our research on you." Lily said singsong-like.

"Such a tragic tale... We're sorry for your loss. We understand that your Aunt even went missing a few months after you arrived here." Violet said solemnly.

"Thank you, but I am here for a Gym Battle for the Cascade Badge, which one of you am I facing?" He said not wanting their pity.

"Oh, scary..." The pinkette said in a fake scared tone.

"Ohh phooey, all business and no play. I guess only the Goddess of Battle and the Rising Star of Hoenn are worthy of the Lone Wolf's attention." The Bluenette said in a playful tone.

"Very well, I'll face you. How does a 3 on 3 battle round?" The Orangette said seriously.

"Works for me." Fenreld said plainly. "However, before we begin... I'd like to ask a question."

The three sisters look at each other and nod. "What do you want to know?"

"You wouldn't happen to have a 4th sister with mango-colored hair, would you?" The raven-haired young man asked.

Daisy and her sister sighed. "I take you've run into our runt of a sister, Misty huh?"

"She's an annoying loudmouth with one hell of a temper. She's currently traveling with a trainer from Pallet Town." The Hoenn native growled. "Shall we begin? I'd rather not be here when they arrive in town since the trainer is taking the Gym Challenge like I am."

The three sisters sighed again, knowing how their sister could be. Daisy walked to her side of the field with the Referee running out from the back. Once Fenreld and Titania took their spot the referee started the match.

"This Gym Battle is between Cerulean City Gym Leader Daisy Wallflower and Fenreld from Petalburg City! On the line is a Cascade Badge! This will be a three-on-three battle! Trainers send out your first Pokémon!" The Official announced.

"Ladies first." The Lone Wolf said calmly holding his choice Poké Ball.

"Such a gentleman..." Daisy said sweetly before tossing her first Poké Ball. "Showtime Vaporeon."

'Interesting, I wasn't expecting one of the Eeveelutions.' He thought with a smirk mildly impressed before calling out his Gloom. "Blossom, time for battle."

"Round 1: Vaporeon vs Blossom the Gloom, Begin!" The referee said with a chopping motion of their hand.

"Interesting nickname for a Gloom... I assume you're wanting to find a Sun Stone to evolve it into a Bellossom?" The Orangette asked curiously

"Possibly... but enough talk, this is a battle." He said sternly before beginning the fight. "Blossom, Poison Powder!"

"Into the water and use Water Pulse!" The Gym Leader commanded.

With the Poison Powder dodged, the Bubble Jet Pokémon fired off a Water Pulse only for the Gloom to dodge to another platform.

'Damn, so their going to play this game are they? Kinda wish I had an Electric-type with me.' Fenreld grimaced. "Take it and use Mega Drain!"

Blossom did as instructed and took the attack, luckily not getting the added effort of confusion, then began draining her opponent of their energy at an alarming rate due to it being super effective.

Seeing this Daisy hurried to command the last-ditch effort to save her Vaporeon. "Use Aurora Beam!"

"Dodge and use Poison Powder!" The Lone Wolf said calmly.

This time the Poison Powder connected and quickly began doing its job, while the rainbow-colored beam missed the Weed Pokémon.

Daisy cursed knowing that between the Poison and the previous Mega Drain, her Pokémon was in trouble.

Seeing his opponent wasn't going to make a move he decided to finish this round. "Mega Drain again, put it out of its misery."

With a nod in response, Blossom drained the last of Vaporeon's health and knocked it out, causing the Referee to announce the end of the first battle. "Vaporeon is unable to battle! Round 1 goes to the challenger! Daisy, send out your next Pokémon!"

"I admit, I should have leveled Vaporeon up more to at least learn Aqua Ring... Let's see how you do against my next Pokémon." The Orangette said calmly, not discouraged at all. "Seel! Showtime!"

"Blossom you still good to battle?" The Lone Wolf asked getting a nod in return, he smirked. "Very well."

"Round 2 between Blossom the Gloom and Seel, BEGIN!" The Official announced.

'If I remember my research properly, Blossom isn't going to stand a chance... so let's get some chip damage in to carry over to the next round.' He thought. "Ladies first."

"How generous..." Daisy said with narrowed eyes. 'What is he planning... well whatever.' "Start off with Icy Wind!"

'I thought so, this thing doesn't have any Water-type moves.' Fenreld thought before commanding his Gloom. "Dodge and use Poison Powder while it's using its move!"

Blossom doesn't completely dodge the Icy Wind, its left foot gets caught in the attack, still manages to get off the purple powder, infecting the Sea Lion Pokémon with poison, causing Daisy to once again curse.

"Well done young Fenreld. You've got quite the strategic mind." The Gym Leader said bitterly. "However, with your poor Gloom's foot injured, she won't be dodging another attack. Seel, Ice Shard!"

Knowing she was right, Fen stayed strong. "Try to counter with Acid and melt the Ice!"

Unfortunately, the Gym Leader's attack pierced the Acid and struck true, knocking out the tired Weed Pokémon.

"Blossom the Gloom is unable to battle! Challenger, send out your next Pokémon!" The Official said with authority.

'I can't use Chomper in this fight like I planned. That Seel would make quick work of him and I promised Cynthia I would take good care of him.' The Hoenn Natives thought before deciding on his next Pokémon. "Aviary, time for battle!"

"Round 3 Aviary the Pidgetto versus Seel, BEGIN!" The Referee announced.

"Aviary, Twister!" The Lone Wolf commanded.

"What?!" Daisy shouted in shock unable to issue a command due to it causing her Seel to be picked up by the violent dragonic winds and tossed into the wall. "Seel!"

The Sea Lion Pokémon however got up, injured but still able to battle, eyes filled with determination even with the poison slowly sapping its strength.

"I admire your Seel's strength of will." Fenreld said honestly with a nod from his partner.

"Seel, are you sure?" The orangette asked getting a pained nod in return. "Alright then, Ice Shard!"

'She's better than her sister, I'm impressed.' He thought to Titania, getting a mental giggle in return. "Dodge using Quick Attack then hit it again with Twister!"

Pidgetto deftly dodges the Ice Shard due to her speed, and once again summons the dragonic winds, taking out the Gym Leader's Pokémon.

"Seel is unable to battle! Leader Daisy, send out your last Pokémon!" The Referee commanded.

"Normally, I wouldn't use this Pokémon, however, you have proven your strength and I've heard tales of that Kirlia's power." Daisy said a small amount of anger could be heard in her voice. "Showtime Milotic!"

"Heh, I'm impressed. I'm well familiar with what is considered the most beautiful Pokémon since my idol uses one as well." Fenreld said with a smirk. "Tell me, when did you pay a visit to Hoenn or Sinnoh?"

"A couple of years ago on a modeling job... My sisters and I usually take turns running the Gym... it's not often we are here together like this." The Kanto native said with a flip of her hair.

"Round 4, Aviary the Pidgetto vs Milotic! BEGIN!" The Official said.

'That Milotic is so much stronger than her other Pokémon, It's gonna be difficult to win again it.' He thought as he glanced to Titania who looked raring to battle. "Alright Aviary, let's be careful, this one is strong. Quick Attack!"

"Let's see how much you like the move you defeated Seel with! Twister!" The Gym Leader said confidently.

And that confidence isn't misplaced, the Twister catches the Pidgetto in this gale-force winds and tosses it into the stands. However, she gets up, injured but able to fly and fight.

"You alright girl?" The Hoenn native asked his Pokémon getting a pained nod in return. "Alright, use Gust!"

"Fight through the Gust and use Aqua Tail!" Daisy commanded her strongest Pokémon.

And Fight through the Tender Pokémon does, knocking the Bird Pokémon into the back wall, leaving an imprint in the wall.

"Aviary is unable to battle! Challenger, send out your final Pokémon." The Referee said sternly.

"You ready girl?" He asked his trusted partner.

"Let me at her. I will win this for us!" Titania said with confidence.

"Go on then, Titania take the field, my friend." Fenreld said with pride.

"The Final Round will be Titania the Kirlia vs Milotic, BEGIN!" The official said with a final chop of his hand.

"Queen of the Fairies huh? Let's see if she can live up to the name." The orangette said with a sneer. "Twister!"

Both Hoenn natives smirk. "Take it. Show our dear Gym Leader she needs to study up more."

To say Daisy was shocked to see Kirlia standing there unharmed was an understatement. "What the hell is going on!?"

"Titania's name isn't just something I decided because I love and trust her so much. Kirlia is part Fairy type, Dragon-type moves don't affect her." He said smugly. "Titania! Magical Leaf!"

Still recovering from her shock from the ineffectiveness of Twister, Daisy was unable to issue a command as her Milotic took the super-effective Grass-type move, it striking harder than normal as a critical hit.

"Miss Wallflower, I suggest you snap out of it. You're better than your sister Misty, show it again now. Show me again, the fierce Gym Leader I have fought this entire battle." Fenreld said with respect.

"You're right. Thank you. You're a powerful opponent and you too have earned my respect." The orangette said, her resolve renewed. "Milotic, let's give it our all, we're not out of this yet. Aqua Tail!"

The ravenette nodded. "Catch it with Confusion! Throw her into the wall!"

After a brief battle for dominance, Titania's power won over the pure strength of Milotic's water-powered tail and threw the Tender Pokémon into the same imprint left by Aviary with a loud thud. However, the Gym Leader's ace proved its status by slithering back to the pool ready to fight.

'I could use Recover and drag this out... but I respect him too much, he's already earned his badge in my opinion.' Daisy thought with a smile. "Water Pulse!"

Fenreld nods with a smile of his own. "Double Team into Draining Kiss!"

Kirlia multiples into afterimages before blowing a kiss, draining the Tender Pokémon of her strength, but still not giving up.

"I think Milotic has strength enough for one more hit Daisy. Thank you for this fight. It shows I must up my training." The Lone Wolf proudly. "Finish this with Magical Leaf, my friend."

The Model nodded and said nothing, her Milotic closes her eyes in acceptance, knowing this fight is over, getting hit once again with a powerful Magical Leaf, getting knocked out.

"The Gym Battle has been decided! Winner, Fenreld the Lone Wolf of Hoenn!" The Official announced.

"Well done. I must admit, if you were older, I'd be all over you." Daisy said with a sultry smile. "Here is your Cascade Badge. I will be watching your progress in the League with great interest, and not just here in the Indigo League. I wish you luck in your goal of becoming the Hoenn Champion."

"I'm flattered." Fenreld said evenly, trying not to sound bothered by the blatant attempt to seduce him. "You have earned my respect and I will endeavor to fulfill my dream so as not to disappoint those who care for me.

Now, forgive me, but I must get back to the Pokémon Centre so I may get my team healed up before I make for Vermilion City."

With that, the Hoenn natives make their way out of the gym without giving the three models a chance to talk again.

Once they were out of sight and earshot, Lily spoke up with a playful tone. "My my... Not often do you show such interest. Planning to rob a cradle sister?"

"Not at all. I know I don't stand a chance with him, not against the likes of Cynthia or that girl May. That Rising Star will grow into a beautiful goddess in her own right." The Orangette said evenly. "But I won't lie and say that I wasn't interested in him. I meant what I said when I would be watching his career."

Violet shakes her head and shrugs. "Using Milotic against a trainer with only one badge is going to come back to bite us in the ass. You know the League reviews every match. What were you thinking sis?"

"Fenreld was beyond a trainer with a single badge. If they're consequences, then I alone will accept them." Daisy said with resolve.

"Well, I guess that battle did make up for the poor display I showed against that jerk Gary..." Lily said with a frown.

"Or my loss against that girl Sherry. Her Ivysaur demolished me and my team." The blue-haired sister said sheepishly.

"Yes, but now we must prepare for Misty and her companion. I imagine they will be here soon if this trainer is taking the Gym Challenge." The Orangette said taking charge. "Let's get our Pokémon to Nurse Joy and hope we are ready."

"Geez, Fenreld really lit a fire under you didn't he..." Lily said with a tired sigh. "We'd better do as she says Violet, I'm not sure this new Daisy will let us slack off anymore."

Her blue-haired sister giggled a bit and left to gather the rest of the battle-worn Pokémon, leaving them with another Seel that wasn't ready for battle, and a Goldeen fresh from its egg. However, it wouldn't be until much later that it was thanks to the battle Daisy had with Fenreld that the Cerulean City Gym's reputation was saved.

[Cerulean City Pokémon Centre]

Inside his private room, Fenreld sighed as he flopped down on the bed, completely exhausted. "That was an intense battle... and too close for comfort."

"What do you mean?" Titania asked climbing up next to her Trainer.

"If that Milotic was anything like Cynthia's, she had a move called Recover that could have dragged that match out and turned it into a battle of attrition." He said tiredly.

"I get it... With my Draining Kiss and her Recover, it just wouldn't end." Kirlia said understanding.

"Well, let's call May and tell her the good news... and hope she's there. It is still midday so she could be training." The raven-haired Trainer said.

"Staleport City Pokémon Centre, How can I help you Assistant Fenreld?" Nurse Joy said as she answered the call.

"Is May Maple available? If so I'd like to speak with her." Fenreld requested politely.

"Of course, let me page her." She said as did as she said she would, and seconds later, the sound of a stampede of Rhyhorn could be heard.

'She never changes.' Both Titania and Fen thought with a small laugh.

"Geez May, and I thought you were tired out from our training this morning. Maybe I need to push you harder if you have this kind of energy at the mention of your boy toy wanting to talk." Solidad teased off-screen.

"Oh shut it! I'm still sore as hell, not to mention my Pokémon are still in Nurse Joy's care in the back." May scowled.

"Training her hard huh?" The ravenette chuckled with Titania giggling as well.

"CAN IT! I was just about to have lunch then soak in a hot bath for a bit before getting back to the torture she calls training." the brunette growled.

"Come now... I told you that I was going to teach you everything I know. It's not my fault you haven't been training your body alongside your Pokémon." The pinkette said with a shrug.

"Anyway... Just calling to let you know I won my Cascade Badge... but it was a tough fight, the Gym Leader surprised me by having a Milotic." Fenreld said earning gasps from the girls on the other side of the screen.

"But Milotic is native here and in Sinnoh! How...?" May started to ask before Solidad answered for her.

"Makes sense... The Sensational Sisters of Cerulean City are world-famous models. They could have caught a Feebas on one of their trips." She said thoughtfully before asking. "Which Sister did you face?"

"Daisy. She renewed my faith in her and her sisters... other than Misty." He said sneering as the mango-haired harpy's name escaped his lips.

"Isn't that the girl traveling with that Trainer from Pallet with the overpowered Pikachu?" His childhood asked getting a nod in return.

"Yeah... She is the black sheep of the Wallflower family. She's a hotheaded tomboy from what I heard." The pinkette said with a nod. "How did she end up traveling with this kid with a Pikachu?"

"Apparently, Ash angered a whole flock of Spearow and had to make a run for it, bumping into Misty, borrowing her bike for his Pikachu that was injured, and during a Thunderstorm, it used the lightning to unleash a Thunderstock that was stronger than even Zapdos can put out to take out the angry Spearow, accidentally frying the bike in the process." The Ravenette explained dully.

"Ahh... So she's traveling with this Ash until he repays her for the bike... Sounds like something she'd do." Solidad nodded. "Still for a Pikachu to have that kinda power, that kid has potential if he trains it properly."

"Yeah, that's not likely to happen." Fenreld scoffed. "He took on Brock with that Pikachu and a premature Pidgetto..."

"...he may still mature...maybe..." The Top Coordinator said, clearly unsure. "Well, congratulations on your second badge."

"She's right, I'm very proud of you Fen and Titania. What's your plan now?" May asked.

"Well, with Saffron City closed off, I'll have to take the underground passage that connects the outskirts of Cerulean and Vermilion so I can take on Lt. Surge... I also got a ticket for the Cruise liner, the S.S. Anne as a gift. So I might check that out without it before it sets sail." The Lone Wolf said, waiting for May and Solidad to react.

"The S.S. Anne?!" The girls shouted in shock. "How did you get a ticket to the most luxurious cruise liner in the world?!"

"I helped a researcher out and he gave me his ticket." He said with a shrug.

"Damn it.. and there is no way we can get there and back in time for the next contest." May grumbled.

"Sorry, what was I supposed to do? Turn down a generous gift like this?" The raven-haired preteen asked defensively.

"...Fine." The younger Coordinator relented.

"Well, I need to get Titania and the rest of my team to Nurse Joy for a more personal care than the personal restoration machine here in my room, and I need a nap in the meantime. The battle with Daisy really took it out of me." Fenreld said, doing a quick stretch.

"Alright. I need that soak I mentioned... I'll call you from Mauville City." May said with a smile.

"It may a week or so before we get there, so don't worry if you don't hear from us." Solidad tries to reassure the young Trainer.

"That's fine. I was going to take my time, catch Pokémon, train up my team and take in the sights. Just remember to leave a message for me in Vermilion City." He said with a smirk as he cut the call.

"Glad she's doing alright, even if that older girl is being a bit rough with her." Titania said softly.

"She'll be alright. The exercise will do her good in the long run." The ravenette sighed. "Come on, let's get you and the other to Nurse Joy."
