Here we are. The final chapter is here. Sorry for taking long. I've been busy with other stories and other things. Well, here it is.
The Final Battle Part 2
Carol and Walter chased after Yon-Rogg. They spotted him sitting in a jet. Walter jumped on and prepared to fire through when suddenly the jet dropped out into space.
"Walter!" Carol shouted rushing forward but it was too late. She struggled to think about what to do. She then remembered her fists. This is crazy! She thought. She took in a deep breath and jumped out into space after her boy.
Walter tried to blast through the windshield but his father shook him off and he was sent plunging into the Earth below. He did his mask but struggled to stop himself from tumbling and turning in mid-air. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Carol diving down towards him, headfirst, helmet fastened over her face. "Fire from your fists!" she screamed through the air. "Fire from your fists!"
"What?!" Walter screamed.
Carol caught up with Walter reaching out her hands. He reached up and managed to gain a firm grip on them. They were linked together.
"On three…we fire together!" Carol shouted. "Do you trust me?!"
"I trust you!" Walter shouted back wholeheartedly.
"One! Two!" They were closing in fast on impact. "Three!" instantly Carol let go of Walter's hands and together, they fired cosmic energy from their fists and they shot off into the sky like super-powered rockets.
Meanwhile, Maria steered the ship, struggling to keep herself focused as her mind was also on Joel in the back. Nick did his best to tend to him.
"Oh no," she heard beeping on the satellite navigation. "We got a bogie coming in hot. Keep Joel breathing!"
"Will do!" Nick answered back.
Maria steered the ship swiftly as green blasts were shooting at them. It was Minn-Erva. The outside wing was struck but it didn't blow up. They were speeding through a canyon. Spotting a fork in the chasm, Maria steered the ship right and they lost the jet that was soaring after them. She continued it forward then she quickly made a sharp right and instantly the jet flew right towards them and she shot and destroyed it.
"Yeah!" The Skrulls cheered.
Although weak and losing a lot of blood, Joel turned his dreary head towards his wife. He smiled. "That's my girl,"
Maria turned back to him and smiled. Suddenly the ship shook as it received another blast.
Yon-Rogg was more determined than ever to shoot the ship down. Suddenly, two rocketing super-powered humans came out of nowhere and together they fired at his ship, destroying the engines. The ship went diving down and Yon-Rogg crashed-skated across a plan of sand and stone.
Walter and Carol stared down and saw their former mentor crash-landed, defeated. Walter had half a mind to fry him with his fists for what he did to his mother when Carol spoke up. "Walter,"
Walter saw that Kree ships were appearing high in the sky. The Earth was in danger. Turning to her, he nodded and together they shot up. But as they did, they saw enormous Kree spaceships shooting down at them. They had to stop them.
Two missiles shot further ahead than the others. Carol and Walter dove up and their gloved hands came into contact with the point nuclear weapons. As they tried to push it back up, its rocket power pushed them down slowly. But they boasted up their energy levels and with empowered strength, they pushed the missiles right back up into space. It collided with the other missiles and it exploded on impact. It wasn't over yet though.
They shot right up into space seeing the Kree battleships right in front of them. Rockets and spaceships came shooting toward them. Once again without resisting, the pair turned to each.
"Competition to see who can destroy the most ones?" Carol goaded.
"You are so on!" Eager to win, Walter rocketed again.
Carol shook her head playfully and shot off. Together they blasted, dodged and shot right through dozens of little Kree jets. Carol cheered every second. Walter rolled his eyes, enjoying her girl's humouring enjoyment. They then shot directly through one of the Kree warships, destroying it completely.
There were three left but instead of killing them, they would warn them.
They hovered right in front of the centre ship where they saw a blue Kree wearing black armour and bearing a heavy Warhammer. They pounded their fists against their palms releasing a wave of cosmic power. They would either spare them if they left through the jump point or they would die.
To their relief, the three warships disappeared through the jump point back into space. The pair knew this wouldn't be the last they saw of them. There was only one thing left to do now.
They descended high speed back to Earth, right to where Walter's father had crashed his ship. They landed five yards away from him, watching him scramble out of his almost destroyed jet. Walter clenched his fists. He wanted to end his life. He undid his mask so that Yon-Rogg could see his dark eyes.
As Carol undid hers, she approached Walter and touched his shoulder. He didn't turn to her. "This won't change anything. And it most certainly won't make you feel any better,"
Walter still refused to meet her eyes. He marched slowly forward, his fists firing up. Yon-Rogg saw him. He pulled out his gun but Walter suddenly punched him and he landed against hard rock, stunning his body briefly. As he looked back up and saw his son, he saw a fire-powered fist aimed right at him.
"I'm sorry about your mother. She was a good woman. With a wonderful son. All I wanted was to raise you, to help you become what you were meant to me. She has messed with your mind, play tricks on you…she didn't even reveal to you what you were,"
Walter couldn't argue with him on that last point. Carol came to his side.
Yon-Rogg scoffed. "Has Vers got to you? Has she toyed with your mind?"
Walter growled and pointed his fists further into his face. But as he prepared to finish his father off, the thoughts of his mother flew into his mind again like instinctive reflexes. In those memories, he saw a kind devoted woman who wanted what was best for her children, who sought to protect him from a father whom she prayed would never grow up to be.
"I'm not like you," the fire in his fists died out and he let it fall. "I have nothing to prove to you," In an instant, he grabbed his father's neck pain and threw him into the ship.
"Wait. I can't go back empty-handed," Yon-Rogg coughed.
"You won't be," Carol stepped up. "You'll be delivering a message from us to the Supreme Intelligence. You'll tell her that we will be coming back. And we will be ending it all," she shut the windshield and blasted the engine. The jet shot off into the sky, taking Yon-Rogg far, far away from Earth. Carol turned to Walter who stared up with a blank expression. "You okay?"
Walter looked a little unsettled. He had given up on killing his father for killing his mother but now it felt like he had disappointed himself. Carol could see that. She approached him. "You did the right thing. Your mum would be so proud of you,"
"But I became like him,"
"No," Carol shook her head. "You became better,"
"Thank you," Walter said. "For steering me on the right path," he looked back up at the sky at the angle his father had shot up into the depths of space. "I just hope we did the right thing,"
"We did," Carol slowly took his head. "And whatever battles we face, we will face together," she smiled and he smiled back his uncertainty dissolving.
Together they flew back to Louisiana where Joel, Maria, Nick and the Skrulls would be waiting for them. As they landed, they saw Joel bandaged, Maria by his side as he lay on the grass clutching his hand.
Carol felt tears stinging her ears. "Joel!" she fell to his side.
"What happened?" Walter asked.
"Yon-Rogg shot him," Talos sadly said. "He took the shot for me,"
As he spoke, Walter felt a powerful shock like he had just been shot in the heart. "I never should have let Yon-Rogg go,"
"You let him go?" Talos questioned.
"We sent him off to deliver a message to the Supreme Intelligence," He explained.
"He's gonna be okay right?" Carol prayed. She felt a hand reach over and take hers Its fingers tightened around hers. She realised it was Joel.
"I'll be fine Carry," he assured. "It takes more than a gunshot to take your brother down,"
Carol laughed in relief. So did Maria and Walter.
"You both did the right thing," Joel praised them. "It takes more courage to spare a life and you both proved today that you are more humane than Yon-Rogg will ever be,"
"I finally found out something today," Walter spoke up. "My family never has and never will be with the Kree. It's with all of you," He looked into the eyes of Carol, Joel, and Maria with emotional eyes. They smiled and laughed back with him.
They shared a gentle group hug and the Skrulls cheered with Nick.
Joel was taken inside the house for further treatment. Carol and Walter decided to stand out together under the stars.
"What happens now?" Carol asked Walter.
Walter sighed. "These Skrulls cannot stay on Earth. They need a new home," It broke his heart to say it. Even though the Skrulls were now their friends and they were getting along with their human family, he knew that this couldn't be the best place where they could live. "I must finish what my mother started,"
"We have to," Carol corrected. Walter turned to meet her rhetorical expression. "You don't honestly you're going to complete this quest by yourself?"
"We don't know how long it will be. And I couldn't take you from Earth again, not from Maria and Joel,"
"Where you go, I go," Carol turned around so they could have a proper heartfelt conversation. "Your mother pledged this mission to both of us. You can't do this by yourself,"
"You sure about this? We don't know what dangers lie out there. There could be trouble,"
"' Trouble' is my middle name," Carol joked.
Walter laughed. "Forgot how much I love your jokes,"
Carol laughed. As they laughed, they became lost in each other's dark eyes. Their faces were drawing closer. It was at that moment, that Carol had begun to recognise a strange thumping in her chest that had been vibrating her heart for many years. Was it just fascination? Or something more?
She reached forward and kissed him. Then she pulled back. Walter was flabbergasted. "Okay. Wasn't expecting that" he blurted out quickly.
"You kind of just stood there still so I assumed you were scared to make the first move so I just…" Carol was interrupted by Walter suddenly pressing his lips to hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he held her close. Their lips were locked for ten full seconds before they pulled back.
"That was…" Walter drifted off.
"Quite fast?" Carol jokingly asked.
Walter chuckled. She chuckled again. They were both about to kiss again when they heard the crunch of a crisp. Embarrassed, they turned their heads to see Talos, Maria, Joel, Nick, and Monica. Talos was munching on a crisp.
"You two are so busted," Maria teased with a smug grin.
They pulled back awkwardly.
"That was uh…" Joel tried to speak.
"We were just…" Carol tried to speak up.
"We heard all of it," Joel said.
"And we saw you two," Nick made kissing noises.
"We know what you two are planning," Joel spoke next, his teasing smile falling.
Carol felt he had broken his heart. "Joel…"
"Don't worry guys. We understand. It's a responsibility you have to do,"
Carol and Walter were speechless unsure what to say.
"We'll give you times to say goodbye," Talos stepped out. His wife and daughter followed after him. He approached them. "Thank you both so much,"
The pair smiled proudly to call Talos their friend. Talos turned back to Joel. "Thank you,"
Joel nodded his head and smiled. Talos then left them alone with his family.
They stood outside and said their goodbyes.
"Here Nick," Carol held up the device she had taken from him earlier. "Just call on this and we will come,"
"It will be my please Captain Mar-Vell," Nick saluted.
"Marvel," Carol corrected. "Marvell,"
"Okay…Mar-Vell," Nick teased earning a chuckle from Walter. Whilst the two said their goodbyes, Carol approached her brother whose eyes were wet.
"Oh Carol…." he began. "I feel like I just got you back. Now I feel like I'm losing you for good this time,"
Carol couldn't help but feel guilty when he said that. Nevertheless, she knew her heartfelt duty was to help Walter finish what his mother started. "You're not losing me, Joel. We'll come back and visit every week,"
"I hope so. I feel like after years of having your back, always protecting you….I feel like I can't do that anymore,"
"You don't need to," Carol consulted. "You've done your job. And you did it perfectly. I couldn't be any more grateful to you,"
"I just want you to know that I am so proud of you. And that you have become a special woman. More special than anyone other than Maria and Monica whom I have ever met,"
Carol threw her arms around her brother and hugged him tightly. "I love you, Joel,"
"I love you too Carol," he cried back.
"You take care of yourself," Carol sobbed. She pulled back and then embraced a tearful Maria. "You take care of him,"
"I will," Maria promised.
"Come here Wally," Joel pulled him into his arms. "You take care of her. You hear me?"
"Thank you. I will," Walter vowed.
"You'd better. Or I'll kill you,"
Walter chuckled as they let go. He looked down at Monica. "You take care Mo,"
"You got it, Captain Wally,"
"It's Commodore Wally I'm afraid," Walter smirked, grabbing her nose gently and wiggling it a bit much to her enjoyment. Monica embraced him and he hugged her back. He hugged Maria back. He vowed to her that he would protect Carol forever.
As a farewell-for-now present, Monica gave them their jackets much to their joy. They fastened them before they gave their human family one last wave. Holding hands together, they rocked up into the sky, into the night, into space.
Once above the earth, they hovered in front of the ship with all the Skrulls with Talos and his family at the front. They bobbed their heads at their human protectors and they bobbed back.
"Next stop….well anywhere," Walter said.
"You're supposed to know the place," Carol corrected.
Walter just shrugged. "You know what I love about you Carry,"
"What's that?"
"That whenever I do something wrong in my life…you're always there to help me fix it,"
Carol smiled at him with love. Together they shot off into the great beyond, the ship with its passengers following behind them.
After locating the Skrulls on a new planet far out of the Kree's reach, Walter and Carol committed themselves to protecting planets together with their powers as a team. As they promised Joel, they visited their Earth family every week.
Eventually, over those long lingering years, they married. And a few years later after that happy day attended by their friends: both Earth and beyond, Carol had given birth to a boy named Colin and a girl named Wendy. Twins.
Colin had flashy brown-orange hair like his father's and his mother's bright brown eyes. Wendy inherited Carol's golden locks but she was taller than her younger brother almost bore a resemblance to their father in a way with her strong firm cheeks and dark eyes.
They inherited their powers meaning they could fly, blast things and be super-super-super strong just like them. It took their parents years to teach them to control their abilities but they managed to get the hang of it in the end.
Currently, the family of four were enjoying a holiday together on a tropical planet when they noticed that many of the island's inhabitants were dissolving into dust… as they had never existed.
"What's happening?" Colin asked his parents.
Walter was confused. "Uh guys…" he looked at his hands. They were turning to dust.
"Dad?" Wendy breathed.
"Walter!" Carol coughed Walter as he fell into her arms. A tear escaped his eye and he turned to dust.
His wife and children were stunned. No sooner had Carol lifted her wet face up to meet her children's eyes, she turned to dust in seconds and her remains blew away in the wind.
Colin and Wendy were stunned by what they had seen. They couldn't believe it. Their parents had disappeared into thin air. They heard beeping from their mother's device but they shut it out. They had just watched their parents die and they couldn't push away the heart-breaking feeling which was engulfing their spirits. They fell to their knees.
By nightfall after hours of sitting alone grieving for their parents, they finally allowed the ringing of Carol's to draw their attention. They saw a shield logo on the front and a whole new feeling engulfed their spirits. Determination.
They flew super-super-fast across the galaxy until they found themselves in front of Earth.
Wendy took out the device again. "The signal's stopped,"
"What do you mean the signal's stopped?" Colin demanded.
"It just has. Fury must have been captivated or something or…she didn't want to finish her sentence.
"Well, we have to get to him now. Can you track the location?"
Wendy pressed a few buttons and her gadget started beeping as it began the quick process of tracking exactly where Fury's gadget was.
"It's somewhere in America,"
They both rocketed downwards to America using the gadget as a guide to where it was below.
They found themselves in
They were in front of a huge building. It was silver and what caught their eyes the most was a huge symbol that consisted of a huge A inside a circle formed by a grey arrow. They landed in front of the building but no one was at the front. The security refused to let them in so they blasted it.
They entered inside, hearing voices from far upstairs. They stalked up and saw a group of humans, possibly combatants and scientists judging from their different physiques and attires crowding around a device that looked just like theirs.
The only woman with short blonde hair turned around in a flash and she saw them.
"Where is Fury?" Colin demanded.
The woman was speechless.
Wendy repeated her brother's question very slowly "Where – is – Fury?!"
What did you all think of Walter and Carol having children? Feel free to send over any ideas of what roles those children can play in the story. I hope you all have enjoyed this book. I will get started on Endgame in September because I've got other stories to finish and I'm going to be busy going on holiday over Summer. Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you all in Endgame. See ya!
