Chapter 10: Taking a trip

Late February, 2017

"Only if we aren't intruding."

"You won't be, I promise."

"Ok, hold on for a minute."

"Alright."

Sara moves her phone from her ear and looks at her husband before speaking to him. "Nick and Sabrina would like to know if we would want to go up to her parent's cabin for the weekend. They want to spend time with us before things start to become very busy for us." She smiled as she placed her hand on her stomach, which was definitely bigger now.

Grissom asked with a raised eyebrow. "What do you think?"

"I agree with them, plus it would be nice to get away for a few days, especially before the babies come."

There was a slight pause before he replied. "If you really want to go with them, it's ok with me."

Sara nodded with a smile. "OK." Then she gets back on the phone. "If we are really not intruding, then our answer is yes, we would love to join you this weekend."

"Alright, sounds good."

After Sara and Sabrina went over the details, like when they will be leaving and if they were just going to take one vehicle, they hung up, then once Sara placed her phone back on the dining room table, she spoke to her husband with a smile. "You know I'm kind of excited about this, and come to think about it, I don't think we've ever done this before."

"Done what?"

"Take a non-work trip with another couple."

Grissom sat there looking a little surprised at her statement, like that can't be true, but then when he really thought about it, she had been right.

He cleared his throat with a nod. "You are right, and I can't believe it, after all this time as a couple, this would really be a first for us."

She then smirked as she stood up, picking up her plate in the process. "Like they say, there is a first time for everything."

By the time she stopped at the sink, Grissom had stood up and started walking into the kitchen, then he placed his plate on the counter and wrapped his arms around her from behind and whispered. "I'm sorry we haven't done this before, that we aren't like other, 'normal' couples."

She shook her head as she turned around, getting as close to him as possible before cupping his cheek with a smile. "You have nothing to apologize for. When we first got together, we both did what we had to do, and I don't regret any of our alone time together." She then sighed as she finished. "And after they did find out about us, it wasn't like we even had the time to take 'family' trips together before things started happening one after another, so if you think about it, it hasn't exactly been 'normal' for us from the beginning, and besides, what's 'normal' anyways."

He gives her a little smile as he cupped her cheek. "You're right, my dear." Then he took a breath as he placed his other hand on her stomach as he continued. "But this time is different, we have nothing to hide, we are happy and stable, with a future looking better and brighter than ever before."

She smiled while wrapping her arms around his neck the best she could. "Now you are right, Dr. Grissom."

When she saw the look in his eyes after calling him 'Dr. Grissom' she knew what was going to happen before he slid his hand down and under her shirt so his hand was touching her skin and his lips on her neck, causing her to close her eyes at the touch while he moved his lips up to her ear, then after he pulled back, and they both now have that look in their eyes, so she took his hand without saying a word and lead them towards the bedroom.

Even with his reassurance in the beginning, if she had any doubts on how he would feel about her as she got more pregnant, they had been washed away almost instantly. He hadn't looked at her any differently as the months came and went. In fact, she believes he's even more affectionate than he's ever been before, and she had no problem with that whatsoever, especially when she gets into one of 'these' moods.

A few days later

When Nick and Sabrina arrived at the Grissom house early that Friday morning, they started putting their bags in the back of Nick's vehicle, then he handed Sabrina the keys, mostly because she knew the exact route to take, and so that her and Sara can talk since Sara will be sitting in the passenger seat so she could have more leg room, then Nick kissed Sabrina's cheek before getting into the backseat behind the driver's seat while Grissom kissed Sara's cheek before sitting in the seat behind the passenger side.

Once they were in the vehicle and buckled, Sabrina smiled as she started the SUV up. "I don't know if you can tell but I'm kind of excited about this trip together."

Sara nodded with a smile as she looked at the younger woman. "Me too." Then she took a breath before admitting. "We don't normally do this. In fact, this is a first get-together trip, at least a non-working one."

Sabrina nodded with a smile as she pulled out of the driveway. "This is a first for us too, and actually it has been..." She then cleared her throat a second later before finishing. "It's uh been awhile since I've been up there."

While Sara was curious about the slight hesitation and the look in Sabrina's eyes before she moved her head to concentrate on her driving, she didn't question it and spoke with a genuine smile. "And I hope we can do more of these type of trips together in the future."

Sabrina stopped at the stop sign and looked at Sara with a smile and nod. "Me too, and one of the reasons we wanted to invite you to come with us was so we can really get to know one another and hopefully become better friends, it's actually been awhile since I've had that too, well outside of Nick and work friends."

Sara nodded with another smile. "I know what you mean, and I hope so too."

The younger woman nodded one more time before turning her head so she can once again concentrate on driving, and after a moment of silence they started talking again with a few laughs here and there while Nick and Grissom sat in the back with smiles on their faces, happy the women they loved were already laughing and having a good time, something they both needed.

Hours later

Once they arrived at their destination, which was a few hours outside of LA, Sabrina stopped the vehicle and smiled. "Alright, we made it."

They all smiled as they slowly got out of the vehicle, Sara, Grissom and Nick amazed at the cabin they were seeing, which how big it was it could really be considered a wooden house, and the area around it. The cabin had a wrap around deck with the back having enough space for a grill, a medium sized glass table, a few comfy chair and a small porch swing, then there was a little trial that went down to their own private dock and the surrounding area had trees as far as they could see.

Inside the two story cabin was just as spectacular as it was outside of it, six bedrooms (2 downstairs, 4 upstairs),2 full bathrooms (1 Upstairs, 1 downstairs), while the master bedroom had a small one of their own, state of the art appliances in the spacious kitchen and up to date electronics in the equally spacious living room.

When they made it back into the living room after Sabrina gave them a tour, Nick took a breath. 'Wow, if this was my vacation home, I don't think I would ever want to leave it."

They all chuckled before Sabrina smiled at Sara and Grissom. "You are welcome to pick one of the bedrooms downstairs so you don't have to walk up and down the stairs during our stay here."

Sara and Grissom immediately nodded with smiles, loving the idea, then after Grissom picked up both of their bags they headed towards the bedroom on the left (Not the master bedroom).

As the couple was out of sight, Sabrina looked at her fiancé with a smile. "So, which room do you want?"

He smiled in return. "I was almost thinking the master bedroom, but..."

He trailed off, and she smirked. "That's where my parents usually are."

They both winced at the idea, before he spoke with another smile. "So, which room did you usually have?"

"The last one on the right."

"And do I have to worry about..."

He trailed off, and it didn't take her long to ask with a gasp. "Wait, are you asking what I think you're asking?"

He chuckled. "I mean how can I not, this place is amazing, a perfect place to..."

He trailed off again, and she chuckled while shaking her head. "No, I have not brought a man here before, at least in the way you're thinking." She then cleared her throat before shaking her head. "Like I told Sara, I haven't been up here in years. In fact, not since I was fifteen."

Nick was going to ask why it had been that long, but the way she looked and turned her body to pick up the bags quickly, told him she didn't want to talk about it, so he didn't ask, however, he did ask. "So, why pick to come here now?"

She turned to look at him with a smile and love in her eyes. "I figured it was time to make new memories for my new life, with the man I love who loves me back in a way I never experienced before."

He cupped her cheek with love in his eyes. "Sounds good to me, and I do love you very much."

The look in his eyes changed slightly, so she asked after clearing her throat, suddenly feeling a little nervous. "Why do I sense a 'but' here."

He took a breath while removing his hand from her. "This subject has never been brought up before, and I think it should before we move forward. Looking around here at all these things reminded me that I can never afford...

She cuts him off with wide eyes. "Nick, you know I don't care about these things, about money, I never did."

He smirked. "And that's why you are a doctor."

She shook her head before replying seriously. "I became a doctor to help people, that's all I ever wanted to do for as long as I can remember, I even volunteer at clinics."

"I know how generous you are with your time and money." He then sighed as he finished. "I just want to make sure that you have everything you ever wanted, that I am really the man you..."

He trailed off one more time as she dropped the bags and wrapped her arms around his neck with a bright, loving smile on her face and in her eyes. "You truly are, and I do have everything I ever wanted. I could live in a tent and I would be completely satisfied as long as I am with you."

He chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her waist and brings her closer to him, feeling better. "Ok, and I could too, you know, but I am happy where we are currently living."

She chuckled in return. "Me too." They share a sweet kiss before pulling back, and after releasing one another, Nick grabbed the bags and they started walking up the stairs and taking a right to head for 'her' room.

After their bags were unpacked, they headed back out to the vehicle to get the grocery bags and put away those before they went to the living room and hung out until dinner time, where Grissom did the cooking, and no one had a complaint. In fact, it was decided that he do the cooking for the rest of trip, which he had no problem with.

Once dinner was done, they went back to the living room, even making S'mores later that evening, until they were tired and went to bed.

Grissom suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, and the spot next to him was empty, which that's probably the reason he was suddenly awake, but he waited a few minutes to move, just in case Sara had gone to the bathroom.

When he thought enough time had passed and she wasn't back yet, he finally got out of bed and went to search for his wife, eventually finding her in the kitchen by the back sliding glass door, holding a glass of water.

He smiled as he walked closer to her. "Hey, you ok?"

She smiled at the sound of his voice and turned her head to look at him. "I'm fine, the babies were feeling a little restless and I got thirsty." He nodded his head as she turned her back towards the door, gasping slightly. "Griss, it's snowing."

By then Grissom was behind her and slipped his arms around her stomach so he can run his thumb over it, hoping it will calm their little ones down, then he kissed his wife's temple before replying. "It sure is, and something we haven't really experienced together."

Sara then smirked after taking a sip of her water. "Just like this trip."

He just chuckled and kissed her temple again.

They watched the snow fall for a few more minutes while Sara finished her glass of water before they headed out of the kitchen hand in hand after placing the glass in the sink, both ready to get some more sleep.
