To my wonderful readers, this chapter consist primarily to explain everything about vampires, how I see them for my story, what happened to them and how they just kind of *fit* in with the years 1915-1998. Enjoy.
The purpose part 21 Newton Scamander
Chapter 61 (August 16th)
Newton had been called in the Egyptian centre of magical creature for an incident that happened with a Sphinx and a few phoenixes. He was glad there was an actual wizarding bank to exchange currency. He had a few transactions to make. Upon his entry, he saw a magnificent woman with a crown talking to a goblin. He immediately thought he had to talk to her, so he approached her, his eternal suitcase never leaving him.
*I'm sorry, madam, my name is Newton Scamander, could I have the pleasure to know yours?* Asked Newt.
The woman turned to Newton and smiled, a smile that went directly to her icy blue eyes.
*Oh! A vampire, are you not?* Asked Newton with a delighted face.
*Yes, Mr. Scamander. My name is Elena, nice to meet you. An English man like you is visiting Egypt? Or are you the famous magicologist we were waiting for?* Said Elena with a sparkle in her eyes.
Newton had a little shy laugh, also being stricken by her beauty. No matter how expert he was about creatures and beasts, he found himself surprised of how little he knew about vampires, and he now wondered why. Books depicted them as pale, dark creatures that fed on blood and used to live on an uncharted island. His thirst for knowledge took hold of his mind. Just like the numerous prizes he had won, he suddenly wanted to inform the wizards all there was to know about vampires!
*I am! I was sent to see Naasz at the magical care centre but I had to make a detour by the bank for a little currency exchange just in case I need to sleep somewhere.* Said Newton.
*It will be my pleasure to not only bring you to the centre, since the event concerning the Sphinx and the phoenixes happened here, but also free you of all charges during your time here in Egypt.* Said Elena.
*Oh my! How very generous of you, Elena. Shall we go to the centre then?* Asked Newton.
*Just give me a moment while I warn my husband.* Said Elena, even if they shared a link, she will always and every time kiss him before going anywhere.
She walked to a near office and Newton looked around wondering if there was any other vampire working there. Have they been working in banks for a long time? Is that how they made their fortune? Are they in muggle banks too? He hoped to perhaps see her husband and he had slightly moved beside the counter.
*You cannot pass behind the counter, wand-carrier.* Said a nasty goblin.
Newt bowed and stepped back.
*Truly sorry, I only wanted to see Elena's husband. I had never seen a vampire in my life before her.* Apologized Newton.
The goblin's face became even meaner.
*The King and Queen are not some fairground animal for your own pleasure, now if your business is done, get out of here!*Said the goblin.
What? The King and Queen? The Vulkens? Even better! Thought the magicologist. He apologized again and waited in the lobby. Elena came back with her husband, to Newton's delight. The King was everything a King was supposed to look like. Wearing a crimson gothic outfit with a crown upon his golden white hair. He had a very intimidating aristocratic look, but Newton knew not to judge books by their cover, especially concerning creatures. What he had not been prepared for was briefly seeing Gellert Grindelwald like he had not aged a day, by the office's door. Gellert went back in the office and closed the door. Did anyone know Gellert was here? Did Dumbledore know? How long had he been here? Was he a vampire now? He was broken out of his thinking when a deep voice talked to him.
*Mr. Scamander, my wife told me you were the magicologist sent here for the Sphinx that caused some commotions a few weeks ago, right? He was protecting a vault that a wizard could not solve the riddle, he tried to attack the sphinx and for unknown reasons, a spell went through the vault's door and hurt the phoenixes. They healed rather quickly but needs to be checked by a more competent magicologist than Naasz. Trying to reason with the sphinx has been unfruitful.* Said Nathaniel.
Elena had narrowed her eyes at Newton as she had seen his change of expression when Gellert was briefly seen. Newton eyed the closed door where he had seen his old nemesis. There had not been any news about a dark lord here or anything about Gellert… just whispers of another one called Lord Voldemort. His attention went back to the vampire King.
*Yes, I can do that, Mr. Vulken, right?* Said Newton.
The King nodded then went back to his office, followed by Newton's gaze. The queen and Scamander proceeded into leaving the bank. Wizards waved to the queen as they walked the streets.
*Have vampires been established in Egypt for a long time? I thought you lived on an island?* Asked Newton.
*Hmm, the Egyptian wizarding bank opened shortly after Gringotts. My husband and I only have been here for, perhaps fifteen to twenty years. I'm sorry, time passes differently for vampires. You are right, the Vulken isle is governed by my son.*Said Elena.
*A son? I thought vampires were dead and could not reproduce.* Said Newton.
*Quick thinking, Mr. Scamander. It all depends how you interpret the 'son' part. We decided to name our heir before he was our childe. Before you ask, when a vampire makes another, he becomes a Sire and the new vampire, the Childe. We do not really have a choice in doing things like that, considering we live… a very, long time.*Lied Elena.
They arrived in front of a really imposing building where was written Care of magical beings, creatures, and beasts. Newton had heard about this place although it did not have a good reputation.
*It does not have a good reputation, but that's only because they heal every being here and… it seems some don't like to be treated as equals even within creatures. I must say I understand, vampires had tried for many years to be considered equals to wizards or even muggles. We were able to pass laws of our own and establish a nation big enough to finally be recognized by the British ministry. We consist of a total of about a thousand individuals, mostly here and in Britain.* Said Elena as they entered the building.
It was absolutely magnificent. It resembled the ecosystems just like his suitcase but bigger. Every type of creatures could have their habitat, but lots of them were devoid of any animals. They walked for a while until they passed through a tunnel covered with vines. On the other side were creepy metal doors and walls. A mix of growls and snarls were heard behind one of the doors.
*We have established this zone for blood-enraged vampires… in the present time, they no longer exists except for this individual. They used to be frequent… before the vampire war. We might just put him out of his misery very soon. We only ever managed to save one and he became a blood-enraged vampire because of the mark, but this one here was made by a blood-enraged and we think that when they are made by them, they can't be saved and since it happened too much in the past, we did not have a choice. That's why he shall not be enduring anymore pain than he is already.* Said Elena.
Newton did not know there even was a vampire war or what actually was a blood-enraged.
*How exactly does a vampire become blood-enraged?* Asked Newton.
The queen sighed and they continued to walk further.
*By starving a vampire. During Gellert Grindelwald's assaults in Britain, my husband and I, along with the Flamels, we went around the world to eradicate all the blood-enraged vampires. The… aurors that were with us made a device to control vampires after what we had done for the wizards, or everyone in that case. They felt justified by not wanting another vampire war.* Said Elena.
She had mentioned Gellert, and curiously the Flamels, but confirming she did know him, and it really was him at the bank. The fact she mentioned a device controlling vampires made him evade the questions he wanted to ask again.
*A controlling device? Like, preventing vampires to feed?*Asked Newton as they were now in another corridor where two wizard guards were in front of another metallic door, but the massive door was opened and you could see Naasz being rubbed by the Sphinx and she tripped and fell.
*Just like a damn cat, oops sorry Larala.* Said Naasz.
*Yes, Mr. Scamander, preventing us to feed.* Said Elena quietly.
The Sphinx looked in amusement at the newcomers and sat down. Newton was shocked by what the ministry had done to them, then turned his attention to the Sphinx.
*Ah Queen Elena. How does a vampire birth?* Asked Larala.
The queen sighed like it was not the first time she had been asked this question.
*I told you several times already, we don't know, except when it happens before being sired or seconds before birth and it never happened, so stop asking that.* Said Elena through her teeth.
The Sphinx looked at Newton and blinked.
*Wrong again. You, would you know?*Asked Larala.
Newton had a small smile and thought of something out of the blue.
*How about by divine intervention?*Said Newton.
The Sphinx had the biggest smile Newton had ever seen meaning a correct answer. Why such a repetitive question towards the Queen? Elena had told him of her son earlier, would the Sphinx be talking about her? Now to see why the Sphinx had attacked the wizard at the bank.
*Larala, why did you attack the wizard at the bank?* Asked Newton.
The Sphinx stretched his body and made a small purr.
*He had not answered my riddle correctly. Since you did have the answer me correctly, I'll tell you why he wouldn't answer the one destined for him. The answer would have revealed his true intentions about the phoenixes in his vault, can you guess what it is?*Said the Sphinx.
Elena sighed , now knowing the reasons for it all. They all looked at each other and everyone knew the answer.
*Black marketing of phoenix feathers… SO, Larala is perfectly fine, and we shall bring that wizard in court. Mr. Scamander, a true master like always.*Said Naasz as she huffed and left, an obvious jealousy radiating behind her.
*I only guessed an answer…* Said Newton as he scratched his head, embarrassed.
*Laurent, Walter, can you escort the Sphinx to the bank after feeding her, please.*Said Elena.
*Yes, Madam.* They said in unison.
*Mr. Scamander, let's see the phoenixes now.* Said Elena.
Newton nodded and followed her. He really did not know anything about how vampires lived. Just an hour ago, he never would have thought vampires can do professions like banker and have to take care of things related to magical beings. Gellert Grindelwald came back to his mind. Last thing he knew was how he had been imprisoned in Nurmengard. He looked at Elena closely and the crown upon her head, wondering just how old she could be. He was sure behind her beauty hid a fierce woman. She did say she went to war and dealt with blood-enraged vampires.
*You are not very good in keeping your thoughts to yourself right now, Mr. Scamander. Your silent questions overflows your mind. We are very sensible to emotions even among people who tries to block it. I'm over 500 years old, we stopped counting. Gellert Grindelwald was moved to our prison, shortly after he had been placed in Nurmengard. When he became a childe, we let him roam free on our island. He has been in Egypt for a month now and has been under our laws since 1945. There is no need to panic just like you did at the bank, after all, he is not the same man that tried to destroy Paris, or govern the wizards. We are aware of the… events in France, for it will certainly have impact on… the economy.*Said Elena as she had paused before saying her last sentence.
Newton had stopped walking and tried to stop the flow of questions in his mind.
*How could a man like Gellert change? His views, his need for the greater good? He killed a Qilin foal! Surely you are under a spell?* Asked Newton.
The queen turned towards him, and her face was no longer soft.
*Vampires are not easily subdued by wizards, Mr. Scamander, if not the contrary. Gellert has lost his magic for almost thirty years, surely you would think that would be as cruel as being in a prison, yes? As for the Qilin, that is still something I haven't forgiven but, alas, there is not much we can do. I still have no idea if he sees things, he never spoke about visions since we brought him on our island.*Said Elena.
A sudden realisation hit Newton. Being a vampire makes you lose your magic? Obviously, there never had been vampire wizards for a reason. Gellert Grindelwald without magic, now that would be proper punishment for what he had done.
*Does the ministry know?*Asked Newton.
Elena tilted her head, then turned to continue to the phoenixes habitat. Newton followed her again.
*What would they do with this information? Arrest him? The ministry no longer have jurisdiction over Gellert.*Said Elena as they arrived to a mix of jungle desert zone.
Clever.
A phoenix saw Newton and went towards him. The magicologist placed an arm up just in time for it to settle down on his arm.
*They don't like vampires, they are very happy to see you.* Said Elena.
Newton closed his eyes as the phoenixes started singing a beautiful melody.
*And why is that?* Asked Newton.
*We are dead, for one. Vampires don't have a heartbeat and we drink blood, the very life out of people. Phoenixes represent rebirth, life and everything related to happiness and if you didn't know the origins of dementors… well you are in for a surprise. When a vampire is old enough and dies, let's say around 200 years old, the body of the vampire becomes a dementor, while the soul goes on. We are not affected by dementors, and you could have guessed it… Azkaban is a prison where we sent them since they affected muggles living on our island. Wizards… eventually found them and actually made a good use where dementors were happy so, we never minded.* Said Elena.
*Dementors? You can't be serious!* Said Newton, surprised.
*Where did wizards think they came from? Thin air? And why would the only place on earth where you could find them was Azkaban?*Said Elena.
The phoenix on Newton's arm made a chirp, then flew away. Newton observed them for a moment and waved his wand, analysing their health.
*The phoenixes are healthy, whatever spell or curse that hit them left no marks. What is going to happen to them?* Said Newton.
*Since the original owner got them illegally and had plans to sell the feathers on the black market, I will have to speak with either the French ministry, which is closer to Egypt, but they might not have the proper department for this so then I'll contact the British ministry. If ever, I'm sure you would know a peaceful place where they could live, perhaps, Mr. Scamander?* Said Elena.
*Actually, let me write an owl to a dear friend of mine, they will move the phoenixes in a sanctuary.* Said Newton.
*Very good. If that'd be all, payment will be transferred to your account in the next hours.*Said Elena as she was leaving.
*Wait! Madam Vulken, if I may… I'm a magicologist, that you already know, but I… I'm also famous for my books about magical creatures and beings. I don't mean to offend you in any way, but I know wizards have very limited knowledge about vampires. It seems you had never been out of your island for… reasons… and the magical community could benefit knowing more about vampires if I did write a book, since you are all way more in the open than before.*Said Newton.
Elena had stopped walking and had listened carefully about what he wanted to do. She did think it could help the vampires a lot to be more understood, especially within the ministry. The King and her exchanged thoughts for a short moment before she agreed.
*Perhaps. Would you want to come to our manor?* Asked Elena and Newton made a smile.
*Certainly.* Answered Newton.
*The manor is another fifteen minutes walk. We should proceed then. We can talk as we go.* Said Elena before starting to leave the centre, Newton behind her.
*How long have vampires been around?*Asked Newton.
Elena shook her head and smiled.
*Funny you ask that. How long have wizards been around? Do you know the answer to that? I believe they hold the same. If I look at the number of dementors in Azkaban, then I wouldn't say more than two or three thousand years. I do not know who is the oldest vampire either, alive or not, because some individuals could hide somewhere on this giant earth, but I doubt it. Most vampires cannot handle a long life and they simply decide to pass away… they do so on this island, usually, because of the dementors. We may keep our youthful bodies, the mind tires, Mr. Scamander.* Said Elena as they passed through a less busy street.
*I see. I understand better why you would know the Flamels very well.* Said Newton.
*Perenelle kept a lot to herself. Nicholas was closer to us. We do keep in touch with a letter here and there.* Said Elena.
*What happened?* Asked Newton.
Elena looked down and was silent for a moment. Newton felt uncomfortable and did not press the reasons and changed the subject.
*How do you make a vampire?* Asked Newton instead.
*Making, what a weird word for that. A vampire sires a childe by injecting a venom, or substance… we never analyzed that, we know there's different types of venoms in our bodies… for pain, pleasure, feeding, and siring. When that venom completely submerges the future childe, his or her heart barely beats, signaling the time to complete the bond by giving them blood. It stops the heart, but the mind changes, the physiology changes, then the body yearns for blood, and only that, since blood is life. Blood is everything.* Said Elena, almost ending in a whisper.
*How often do you need to feed?* Asked Newton, fascinated.
*A new childe will need to feed at least three times a day, ideally from it's sire, then gradually going to once every two to three days. We can last two to three weeks before starting to get mad… Remember what I told you about blood-enraged vampires, nobody wants to see that.* Said Elena as they arrived in front of a gate which opened upon their arrival.
They passed through and made their way to the manor. Elena introduced Newton to a few present vampires and muggles after they had entered the manor. They made their way to an office as big as a living room. A goblin was going through papers sitting by a desk. The goblin did not even look at them.
*I wont be long, Queen Elena, I am almost done.* Said the goblin.
*No problem at all, Leadzurm, we will sit here and talk, take your time.* Said Elena.
*Leadzurm, as in the goblin King? This is astounding! Oh sorry, I have heard and seen many wonderful things today.* Said the magicologist.
*You can sit here with me, Mr. Scamander, and you can put your suitcase beside yourself, you arms must be tired carrying it, you could have used magic anytime.* Said Elena showing a sofa where she sat.
*Oh, I… it weighs nothing, compared to what's… inside.* Said Newton as he sat.
*Well, now you got me curious.*Said Elena.
*Oh… some of my oldest friends, like a bowtruckle and a niffler. It's my little private sanctuary too, expanding charms and if I encounter creatures or beasts that need help wherever I go, I'm ready for them.* Said Newton.
Elena crossed her legs and passed a finger on her bottom lip.
*Can I offer you wine?* Asked Elena.
*Gladly.* Said Newton, wanting to be a little less stressed which she probably had felt.
As if someone knew what she had said, someone entered and gave Newton a full glass of red wine. Newton smelled it before taking a big gulp. The person bowed, then left the room. Newton felt instantly warm.
*Wow. Amazing.* Blurted out Newton.
*Glad you like a hundred galleons a sip red wine.* Chuckled the vampire Queen.
*I do. Your fortune is, I guess, coming from working with goblins and owning banks?* Asked Newton.
*Well, we built the banks with the goblins. It was easier for us to pass off as muggles too, so we also own muggle banks mostly in Europe and Britain, but we do have some affiliation in Russia, because there is a ministry of magic there too.* Said Elena.
Leadzurm placed his paper on the desk and bid good-bye to the Queen before leaving.
*What about physical appearances and abilities? Fear of garlic, coffins, holy water, pale skin?* Asked Newton.
The queen had a genuine laugh that sounded like an angel. Newton could not help to laugh with her.
*We have enhanced senses, so maybe the garlic thing would not be too exaggerated, but I'm sure you wouldn't like a strong garlic scent anywhere either. We also have super strength, speed, agility, and a remarkable tendency to make anyone addicted to us… we are very sexual, some more than others. That's a main reason why vampire don't usually take a partner or if they do, they understand each other perfectly of their other needs.*Said Elena, staring intensely at Newton who blushed and took another sip of wine.
Newton cleared his throat after putting his glasses down.
*How… how does… do you have a hierarchy within vampires, or something?* Asked Newton.
*The King has absolute power over every vampire, and I am not exaggerating on the word power. A vampire cannot defy a King's order. Then, there's me, and our son. We have country leaders and old vampires, and then everyone. We have muggle servants, some here but mostly on our island, they have a whole ward just for themselves, they should be around fifty to a hundred individuals serving the castle. They have everything they need: food, bed, friends, childhood, school, you name it. That's why they never want to leave or don't mind serving us, they never need a salary for we give them pretty much everything they need or want, as long as they obey us.*Said Elena and Newton frowned.
*Doesn't that break the act of secrecy?* Said Newton.
*Technically… but those muggles never see the outside world, or at least, they don't speak about us and it is not the same since we have our own laws for them. They don't get in touch with magic, Mr. Scamander. They might know about it, but there is just no point into screaming it everywhere, they would lose everything. We have a muggle-born witch born on our island who goes at Hogwarts in two weeks time.*Said Elena.
*Fascinating.* Said Newton.
The office door opened, and the King entered, Gellert behind him. Gellert looked at Newton, obviously informed by the King he was there and was showing apparent anger and bitterness.
*Mr. Scamander, perhaps you should leave. Thank you for coming.* Said Nathaniel's deep and authoritarian voice.
*Le' nin gar- rava'ga. Im anír- hon naru cuil.* Said Gellert in Venthyr as his eyes went black.
Newton stood up, taking his suitcase, and holding his wand at the ready. The King grabbed Gellert's arm and pulled him away from the door's access.
*Mr. Scamander was here for work, not for past quarrels.*Said the King.
Gellert moved his arm away from the King's grasp.
*If Seth was here, he would let me! He is as bad as an auror!* Said Gellert as he pointed at Newton.
*Why do you think he is not King yet, Gellert.* Said Nathaniel.
Gellert's nostrils flared in anger. Newton made a move to go to the door but Gellert stopped him.
*How do you plan to control what he says in the book he wants to write then, or whom he talks to? You don't want to expose the island to prying eyes, do you?*Said Gellert, first to the King, then to Newton.
*That… that was not my intentions.*Said Newton, wanting to flee this instant.
*That man is Albus Dumbledore's lackey! If one word is misplaced, you'll be sure he will know and do everything to ruin vampires!* Said Gellert.
Newton stiffened as the queen was now holding him from behind.
*Sleep.* Said Elena and Newton lost consciousness.
Chapter 62
Newton woke up in a cell in a dim light exposing his surroundings. You could have said it was a comfortable cell, with a decent small bed, a desk with parchment, ink, feathers, and bookcases. The only revolting thing was the simple toilet with no intimacy. He could feel the magical wards preventing him from doing anything. He panicked, searching for his suitcase, until he saw it by the wall, right outside his cell. He heard a shuffling and saw his bowtruckle, trying to unlock his cell door. How did he get out of the suitcase?
*Your bowtruckle won't be able to open that.* Said a prisoner in the neighbour cell.
Newton recognized the voice and went closer to him, holding the metallic bars separating them.
*Sam? Is that you?* Asked Newton trying to see him in the darkness.
*Yeah.* Said Sam as he stood up.
Sam now had long brown hair, sticking to his face as if he hadn't wash them for a very long time but his clothes were white and clean. The bowtruckle made a squeaky sound then went on Newton's shoulder.
*You did your best little one.* Said Newton to his bowtruckle. *Sam, why are you here? Are we on Vulken's island?* Asked Newton.
*Yes, well… I didn't really know until muggles were bringing me food and I started asking questions. I tell myself it's not Azkaban, but there's… deatheaters and… him.* Said Sam with a hoarse voice.
*You mean the one that calls himself Voldemort?*Said Newton and Sam had a shiver at the name.
*Great Merlin, how are you able to say his name. The MACUSA asked for volunteers to go in Britain and guess who was captured while the others were killed? I never saw a vampire come down here! That You-Know-Who came once and asked something to another prisoner. I heard him scream on and off for hours and only when he begged to die did the green curse illuminate the cells. I thought I was next eventually. I saw his snake following him bigger than when it came in, if you know what I mean.* Said Sam with nausea.
A metallic sound indicating the cell doors being opened was heard. They heard light steps as if the person was barefoot coming their way. Long white hair, beautiful young face, eyes glowing and icy blue, a long tail with a blade at its end, the vampire swished his wand and a small chair appeared in front of Newton's cell. He swished it again and three orbs of light illuminated the cells. The magicologist first thought it was the King before seeing the tail and the magic, but he was also taller. He couldn't help but be fascinated by a being like him. Seth sat down and crossed his legs, his hands resting on his leg, holding his wand.
*You may be the first one with that expression upon seeing me, Mr. Scamander. Do I look so intriguing?* Asked Seth.
His voice was lighter than the King but was also intimidating. He was wearing a crimson shirt with his sleeves turned in multiple folds. The first two buttons up his neck were not on, and he wore simple black pants with no shoes or socks. Newton wondered at this detail, then locked eyes with him.
*Indeed. Would you be Elena's son?* Asked Newton.
Seth tail scraped the floor for a few seconds.
*I am. My name is Seth.* Said the vampire Prince.
*The Sphinx, he asked her a riddle, several times and she never answered right. How can a vampire give birth? To which she answered repetitively, it was not possible unless the mother was turned right before. Logical, but then the Sphinx asked to me the riddle again to which I answered, divine intervention. One could believe you were born when Elena was not a vampire, to which would imply you would be also 500 years old. Vampires were registered before, weren't they? I have a feeling my answer is the right one, simply because you are a wizard too and that is impossible.* Said Newton.
Seth stayed silent and observed Newton. He had little ticks, like his eyes seeming absent when he was thinking too much or how his mouth was always opened, ready to speak and using his wit. His bowtruckle moved to his front pocket. Had the little creature gone out when he opened the suitcase? Probably.
*No wonder your best friend is Dumbledore. No wonder you helped to defeat Gellert Grindelwald. You two are renowned to make connections to things that shouldn't. Nicholas did warn me so many times. Your bowtruckle is clever too. I opened the suitcase briefly and was distracted for one minute before I went to close it again, if you wondered how he had gone out. You do know you will not get out of this prison because of your knowledge. But I want you to still do something. The very thing you wanted to do when you asked my parents so many questions. Maybe it was fate that brought you to Egypt. Fate that the phoenixes were in that vault that day. I want to believe you will be part of what I want for vampires. If you do that, perhaps we can think of a solution for you to not stay in this prison, Mr. Scamander.* Said Seth as he stood up, then made his chair disappear with a flick of his wand.
*Wait, what about the creatures in my suitcase? They can't be left unattended forever!* Said Newton worryingly.
*Imperio.* Said Seth, pointing his wand at Newton.
Newton's eyes were fixated in front of him for a few seconds, then his face contorted, like in pain. Seth was waiting to see if he would resist, and possibly break the curse. Newton held his head and his body trembled before falling on the floor. In a scream, the curse broke, and Newton was left panting.
*Impressive. Legilimens.* Said Seth, casting another spell.
Newton was defenseless, having to break the imperius left him mentally exhausted. Seth saw the short conversation with Sam, then with his parents and Gellert, he saw the Sphinx he told him about, the bank, then Newton entering his suitcase. Seth snorted upon seeing an adult Qilin, his bowtruckle, a niffler and a strange bird that could fly, but not teleport or apparate. He stopped the charm and Newton was laying down on the floor.
*Good. Now I know those creatures won't bring you out of this prison.*Said Seth as he took the suitcase and opened Newton's cell door.
He placed the suitcase beside his bed where the bowtruckle had hidden after Newton received the spells. He then crouched beside Newton who was staring at the stone ceiling. His grey hair and small beard gave him a charm. Wrinkles were beside his eyes from smiling and laughing through time. He caressed his right cheek and tilted his head. Newton shivered at his touch.
*I am not your enemy. I love creatures and beings, except maybe werewolves.*Said Seth quietly.
*Not our enemy? You allied with that… that damn You-Know-Who! You just used an unforgivable on him! You should be in Azkaban!*Said Sam.
Seth bursted in laughter as he stood up.
*You-Know-who? Who is that? Voldemort? We may be… allies, for the time being, and as for Azkaban, I think Newton here will be able to answer that. The… divine intervention you speak of, it did happen. We don't know why, but I'm here.* Said Seth before closing the cell door behind him and leaving.
Newton sat down with difficulty. He had a throbbing headache and Seth's words resonated in his mind. ''I am not your enemy.'' Echoing Gellert Grindelwald's own words after his failed election.
*Are you okay Newt? What did he mean by that?* Asked Sam.
*I'll… I'll be fine. He meant to say, dementors are old vampires bodies that died. They have no effect on them. That's why Azkaban is near their island and so full of them.* Said Newton as he tried to sit on the bed and his bowtruckle companion went back on his shoulder.
*That spell hit you harder than I thought. You are crazy, that's what.* Said Sam.
The cell door opened again and this time, the sound of heavy boots were heard. A man in a vibrant crimson long cloak with eyes as green as emeralds had a quite big book in his arms. He was holding it as if it was the most precious thing in the world. He stopped in front of Newton's cell.
*Seth wants you to use this for your book, but also for your own personal knowledge, since no humans have access to this. It will be useful to understand us better, in details. Normally, this is under wards that kills anyone other than vampire. Do you see how privileged you are, Mr. Scamander?*Said Danyck.
Newton had stood up and went closer to the cell bars. Danyck showed the magicologist the front of the book where a stunning writing, as if magical, written in golden letters, was The History Of Vampires. Danyck opened the cell door and moved the book with telekinesis, placing it on the desk delicately, then closed Newton's cell door.
*Wait! Are you a wizard too? How did you do that?* Asked Newton.
*No, I was a muggle, born here, I have an affinity with creatures, and I developed telekinesis after becoming a vampire. Perhaps the fact Seth is my Sire did something to it.*Said Danyck before leaving the prison.
*That vampire scares me more than Seth.* Said Sam.
Newton shook his head, somewhat agreeing, then went to the desk to look at the book, and passed a hand on it. He could feel the magic within the book. Again, his intense thirst for knowledge came back in full force. He sat on the uncomfortable chair by the desk and opened the book. He devoured the first chapter quickly about the origins of vampires. Seth had confirmed it too, there were gods in this world and Morgulben seemed to be their creators.
Authors note: Thanks for your patience for this long chapter! Now, you understand my views of vampires! Review if you would like something to happen/change or if you don't like something!
