Chapter 50 – Heads Will Roll

Chloe.

In the Vale hospital, Chloe's eyes twitched as she awoke in a medical bed. Suddenly, her eyes shot open as she gasped for air. The red mantel girl sat up, clenching her chest in pain. "You're up." Chloe heard a familiar voice speak with her. She turned to see it was Kiritsugu, who sat with his arms crossed, "We have a lot to talk about." He said with her still looking at him in shock.

A short while later.

Pulling up the warehouse, Kiritsugu parked his car with Chloe in the front seat. The two exited before seeing Roman walk up to them, "Well, you're finally back." The orange-haired criminal spoke, then looked down at the red mantle girl with a smirk, "And it looks like you're better as well."

"Who are you?" Chloe asked.

"I am-" Roman was saying until Kiritsugu interrupted him.

"Not important." Kiritsugu said with the orange-haired criminal glaring at him, "Has Sisigou finished the circuit?"

"Yeah, he's just about ready." Roman responded before sighing, "Come on, let's go." He said before turning around but glanced back down at Chloe following them. "Are you sure about seeing this?"

"I have already informed her about the situation," Kiritsugu spoke.

"Yes, I know about the head." Chloe added on, "I'm not as squeamish as you think." She said with Roman going silent as he continued to lead the way.

The trio made it to the back room of the warehouse. There, Sisigou had Ozpin's head on a small pedestal with multiple runes carved into the structure. He turned to the door opening, seeing them enter, "Hey, you're a little earlier than I thought." The necromancer spoke, "The preparations are almost done." He said before looking back at Ozpin, "We can finally get some answers as to happen to him." Sisigou then looked down at Chloe, "And you look to be feeling better after hitchhiking a ride in my car."

"Yeah, sorry about that." Chloe responded, scratching the back of her head, "And for eating about half your food along the way."

"That's not a problem." Sisigou said before crossing his arms, "But, what were you doing before you hopped in?"

"I was…" Chloe said while breaking eye contact, but then looked up at Kiritsugu glaring down at her. The red mantle girl then sighed, "I was on a mission to take the Spring Maiden's powers. But it ended with Cinder and I getting backstabbed." She said before the final moments against Yu played in her mind, "Well, front stabbed in my case."

"Maiden's power," Roman interjected, "You know Cinder?"

"You know her?" Chloe responded before squinting, "Wait, she did mention once working with a guy in a tacky hat."

"Hey, this hat is not tacky!" Roman responded before crossing his arms, "Most people these days know nothing about class." He sighed before continuing, "So, what happened to the Boss Lady?"

"She is alive and at Clockwork Academy." Kiritsugu responded, "I just tried to contact my wife and son at that location, but no calls went through at this time."

"I knew she was alive." Chloe spoke with a smile, but then held her head in pain, "If I can talk with her, maybe she can tell me what's happening to me."

"I already told you." Kiritsugu responded, his arms crossed, "You have become to Fall Maiden, inheriting the power from Cinder."

"Ah, so that's why you have the same heat powers," Roman commented.

"But then how is she still alive?" Chloe responded, "I was told by her that only once the maiden dies is their power passed on."

"You can thank Irisviel and her lucky charm." Kiritsugu responded with a sigh, "Cinder died long enough for her to pass on the powers to you, then was resuscitated through healing."

"I see," Chloe said before seeing Sisigou looking down on her.

"Now, what about the Spring Maiden?" Sisigou asked.

"Who's the Spring Maiden?" Roman asked.

"Apparently, a big breasted woman in spandex." Chloe said with a sigh, "Who is also absurdly strong."

"Oh?" Roman responded with a half-grin, "Got any pictures?" he said before Sisigou smacked him upside the head, "Ouch, what?"

"Her name is Minamoto no Raikou," Sisigou responded with a scowl, "She could be dead right now." He said before looking back to Chloe, "What happened to her?"

"I don't know, I was flung over a cliff after Cinder and I were double-crossed on our mission." Chloe said before looking down in disarray, "By the time I got back up there, everyone was gone, but I say your car pull up."

"And then you hopped in while I was with the others," Sisigou said with a sigh, "I have more questions," he said before looking back to Ozpin's head, "But we are losing time on this process. We need to start it now."

"Understood," Kiritsugu said with Sisigou walking over to the head, "We have to get as much information as we can from Ozpin."

"This is really messed up." Roman said before crossing his arms, then looked down at Chloe, "You sure you want to see this?"

"I'm not a little kid," Chloe responded with a glare, "And from what Cinder told me about this guy, I have a few questions to ask myself."

"Okay, here goes." Sisigou while pulling out a vile of a crimson liquid. He opened the vile before pouring it on the back of the pedestal. As it mixed with the runes, the crimson liquid merged with the hardened blood on the neck of the Headmaster's wound.

Ozpin.

The mixture combined to spread as the runes glowed in a bright red light. Everyone watched as Ozpin's eyes started to twitch. Suddenly, they shot open as with green glowing irises, "AAAAAAAAAA!" Ozpin screamed as the others shielded their ears from the screech. The cry continued for a few seconds before his breath weakened. After slightly gasping for a bit, words finally came out of his mouth, "Where…am I?"

"Ozpin, I work with Zhuge Liang," Kiritsugu spoke first, "What happened to you?"

"I…It was…" Ozpin spoke, "The Woman…in Black."

"The Woman in Black?" Sisigou asked.

"Was she the woman you went into the Emerald Forest with?" Kiritsugu followed up.

"She…did this…" Ozpin responded, "She…made…it…" the severed head continuing, "My body…under her…control." It spoke with slight fear growing, "Searching for…my…head…"

"I'm guessing that's the Headless Huntsman monster." Roman said with Chloe looking up to him in confusion, "Yeah, things have been crazy here." He said before realizing something, looking back to the magus specialist in panic, "Wait, did he just say it is searching for his head!?"

"Killing others…she commands…" Ozpin continued, "It searches…for…my…head."

"We already know about The Club," Kiritsugu spoke, "Who else has it killed already?"

"Her enemies…. her threats." Ozpin added, "My…reincarnations."

"Reincarnations?" Roman asked, "What does that mean."

"I die…my soul…transfers… to…another." Ozpin spoke, "But…my soul…is trapped…here." The severed head continued, "I watched…as…my body…killed...Ripping…off…heads." Suddenly, tears of blood ran from its eyes, "I saw…a young…farm boy… too scared…to move…His screams…. I can never… forget…"

"There must be a link between your head and body." Sisigou suggested, "Able to still see and hear, but having no control over its movements."

"That's horrible…" Roman in remorse while scratching the back of his head. He remembered seeing the Headless Huntsman tormenting a victim once. "This guy has seen everyone killed by that monster."

"But why?" Chloe spoke, "Why is it killing kids?"

"It's as he said," Kiritsugu responded, "When Ozpin dies, his soul transfers to another body in a form of reincarnation."

"Well, what if we return your head to your body?" Roman suggested, "Would that-"

"NO!" Ozpin screamed, causing the orange-haired criminal to flinch, "If it…reclaims…my head…then nothing…can stop…it."

"Okay, got it." Roman responded, taking a step back, "I just thought that would turn you back to normal."

"It seems like the exact opposite will happen." Sisigou suggested, "If the Headless Huntsman reclaims Ozpin's head, it will complete its metamorphosis."

"If that's the case, why didn't they do it already." Roman asked, turning back to Kiritsugu, "I mean, why did she just leave his head there on that pedicel then?"

"Hm, the Woman in Black's plan must be to kill all those potential hosts with the body before merging it with the head. Yet the Headless Huntsman seems to have a natural response to see if any head was its original, hence its method of killing." The magus specialist said before crossing his arms, "Can you tell how my individuals there are left you can reincarnate into?"

"None…" Ozpin responded, "…My soul…will vanish…with… my life…as will…my body."

"I see," Sisigou responded, "That means the only option we have is to find a way to restore your body to normal before reattaching your head."

"…No…there is…another…option…" Ozpin responded, "…Kill…me…now…" the severed head spoke with everyone going quiet, "I've lived…too long…I cannot…endure…this pain…anymore…" he spoke as the blood tears ran more than before, "I…want…to…die."

"…" Kiritsugu did not say a word before pulling out his Contender.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" Sisigou responded with a slight glare to the magus specialist.

"He has lost the will to live," Kiritsugu responded, "If we kill Ozpin, it kills the Headless Huntsman too. That will save more lives than the cost of this one."

"I get that, but…" Sisigou responded, but was at a loss for words.

"No matter which way you tell it, this whole situation is messed up." Roman responded to both, "Granted, I would rather never run into that monster again. And I honestly do not care about this guy, who has been around a lot longer than I thought he was." The orange-haired criminal said while looking at Ozpin's head, "But, I have seen people with that lifeless gaze before. Some can come back from it, but others never do." He sighed back walking away, heading to the minifridge, "I'm not going to make this call, one of you can do it….I need a drink."

"It's already decided," Kiritsugu responded, aiming his Contender at Ozpin's forehead, "I promise, we will defeat the Woman in Black." He said before pulling the hammer back.

"Wait!" Chloe interjected, "I still have to ask him some questions." The red mantle girl said before looking to the severed head, "How do I give the Fall Maiden power back to Cinder?"

"Chloe," Kiritsugu turned his gaze towards her, "What do you think you're doing?"

"I only want to give Cinder back these powers." Chloe spoke, still looking at Ozpin. "She said you have a connection to these powers. That she thinks you made them? How do I give them back to her without either of us dying?"

"You're…the Fall…Maiden?" Ozpin spoke, "You…work for…her…work for…Salem?"

"Is this Salem the Woman in Black?" Kiritsugu commented.

"No…she…is…different." Ozpin responded, "The Woman…in Black…is…Oh no."

"Oh no?" Sisigou responded.

"…Run…" Ozpin spoke as Roman opened the minifridge. As he reached inside, the adjacent wall of the warehouse exploded, destroying the backroom. Everyone was flung to the opposite wall, be partially buried by debris. Ozpin's head had fallen off the pedestal and laid on the floor facing the smoke. He watched as something walked through the hole in the wall, while also being able to see its perspective, "My…body…" Ozpin spoke as the Headless Huntsman looked down at him.

Kiritsugu emerged from the rubble first, gasping at the Headless Huntsman's arrival. He saw the monster walk towards Ozpin's head, fearing what will happen if it is reattached. With that in mind, he reached for his Contender. However, his pistol had been lost in the debris. In looking back, he saw The Headless Huntsman reach down to grasp what it has been searching for. However, Chloe snatched Ozpin's head out of the Headless Huntsman's clutches. She slid through his legs before running as fast as he could. "Chloe!" Kiritsugu yelled, "What are you doing!?"

"I'm not letting that thing turn into something even scarier!" Chloe said as she runs, but the Headless Huntsman rushed after her. Behind his cape, a barrage of black and dark blue energy whips. The red mantle girl dodged them while continuing her flee, but soon stopped in front of a wall. She turned back to see the Headless Huntsman rushing her, "Uh oh," Chloe while scanning the area, then seeing Roman getting up from the rubble, "Hey, Tacky Hat Guy, catch!" the red mantle girl said before tossing Ozpin's head at the orange-haired criminal.

"What did you just call me-" Roman said before Ozpin's head slammed into his chest before resting in his arms, "Ewe!" the orange-haired criminal said while holding the severed head, but then heard a screeching sound. He then looked forwards, seeing the Headless Huntsman coming to a stop before turning towards his new target, "Oh crap!" Roman said while running, the Headless Huntsman chasing after him, "This is why I hate kids!"

"Damnit!" Kiritsugu said while gritting his teeth, "Just keep it busy until I find my gun."

"Easy for you to say!" Roman shouted while the Headless Huntsman closed in. However, the orange-haired criminal said while noticing Sisigou getting up, "Hey, think fast!" Roman said before reeling back his left arm with the severed head in hand, then tossing Ozpin's head.

"What?" Sisigou said before seeing Ozpin's head flying towards him. He jumped to catch the severed head with both hands, but then saw the Headless Huntsman turn to him. The necromancer gritted his teeth before holding Ozpin in one hand while drawing his shotgun. While firing a round at the monster, the finger bullets were ripped to shreds by the energy whips.

The Headless Huntsman then reached out its left hand, causing a blue flame to form in his palm. Suddenly, the flame erupted and merged with the black whips of energy. The result formed a massive blade made of a crack black steel. There was no guard on this weapon, rather it was a bulbus section adorn with leather straps and bolts, "That…sword…" Ozpin spoke, "It…is…death…" he said while the Headless Huntsman started to approach.

"Fantastic." Sisigou sarcastically said before seeing something in the corner of his eye. Chloe was jumping with her arms in the air, "Go long!" Sisigou said before holstering her weapon and reeling back the severed head, "Sorry in advanced." He whispered to Ozpin.

Before the Headless Huntsman could rush in, the necromancer tossing Ozpin's head with a spiral. Roman and Kiritsugu watched the head spinning through the air, traveling almost half the length of the warehouse. Chloe saw the head approaching her, causing her to take a few steps back, then jumped, "I got it! I got it! I got-" Chloe said before jumping but gasped as Ozpin's head passed through her hands. Sisigou had a look of dread fill his eyes at what was about to happen. As Chloe touch back on the ground, she flinched at hearing the severed head hit the floor, breaking open like a watermelon.

However, no such sound was heard. Chloe hesitantly turned around, discovering Ozpin's head was caught by a large individual in a black cloak. The severed head was grasped just in the right hand of the person, which was covered in dark armor. He lifted it to look Ozpin directly into his scarred skull face, causing a blue flame to ignite in the sockets.

"What in the-" Roman said as he looked at the clocked individual, then glanced to Sisigou and Kiritsugu, "Is this a friend of yours?" he asked but was only met by silence.

"Uh?" Chloe said while still in shock, "Who are you?" she said before the blue flames seemed to look down at her.

"He…is…" Ozpin's head spoke, but the light in his eyes was fading, "One of…the three…Kings…" the severed head spoke before his eyes closed.

Rest now, Old Friend.

The cloaked individual spoke in a calm tone, yet his voice echoing an ominous aura that rang through everyone's ears. At the same time, Kiritsugu glanced down, discovering his Contender. The magus specialist quickly picked up and readied to aim the weapon at Ozpin's head. But gasped at what his sight returned to. The cloaked individual opened his mouth wide, devouring the head in one bite. Kiritsugu and the others gasped in horror as the severed head was shallowed into the clocked individual's body. Sisigou watched in shock while Roman covered his mouth from his cheeks puffing up.

Kiritsugu then looked over to the Headless Huntsman closing in on the clocked individual. Chloe gritted her teeth at the monster's approach before the cloaked individual walked past her. Suddenly, the Headless Huntsman rushed with the dark sword raised high, swinging it down at the clocked individual while radiating a blue flame. However, the blade was caught by the target's left hand. While the flames incinerated the clocked, they did not scratch the decayed black armor that was underneath. The skulls that decorated his shoulders and chest had the same look of a Grimm, yet the gaze through the blue flames in the eye sockets was far more murderous. These were the eyes of a King of Death.

That is not thy sword.

He spoke while the grip on the blade tightened, but the Headless Huntsman jumped back with the dark sword. The monster then rushed in with a horizontal swing, aiming for the arm that held his head this time. Suddenly, the King of Death was engulfed in a blue flame. The dark blade passed through the fire, but there was nothing to cut. Instead, the King of Death reappeared behind the Headless Huntsman.

Return it to me. Now.

The King of Death spoke, but the monster merely readied for another slash. However, the King of Death had already started his attack, a right kick into the center spine of the Headless Huntsman. With the sounds of bones shattered and the body almost folding in on itself, the Headless Huntsman was launched back towards Chloe. The red mantel girl jumped out of the way of the monster skidding on the ground, then looked in panic as the King of Death walked past her again. While the Headless Huntsman tried to get up, using the dark blade now as a crutch, the King of Death stopped. In looking down with a piercing gaze, the blue flames glammed for a slit second. Suddenly, a pillar of blue and black flames erupted under the Headless Huntsman, engulfing the monster in its entirety. However, while the body was being scorched, the black energy whips reemerged and ripped through the flames. The Headless Huntsman stood with the sword at the ready, but the King of Death remained unflinching.

Suddenly, the blade glowed in a blue flame, but rather than strike its target, the sword was implanted into the ground. The result created a massive dust cloud, but the King of Death remained focused. However, as the dust cleared, only one was remaining.

Fleeing. How cowardice.

The King of Death spoke before hearing multiple weapons cocked from behind him. He turned to discover all three men aiming their weapons at his scarred skull.

It seems that I am challenged by more corpses.

He spoke with each one of the three guys gritting their teeth. However, Chloe jumped between all of them.

"Wait!" Chloe hurriedly spoke, "C-can't we just talk this out!?"

Thy wishes to…Hm?

King of Death responded, then slightly looking up.

I see. Very well, Old Friend.

He said while the others looked in confusion.

Fear not.

King of Death spoke while bowing his head.

I am not thy enemy today.

"Uh, okay?" Roman said as he and the others slowly lowered their weapons, "But, what are you!?" the orange-haired criminal asked with the King of Death looking back to him.

I am simply The Old Man of the Mountain.

"Oh..." Roman responded, knowing that only gave him more questions.

AN: There you go, the end of this season was filled with answers and questions. Chloe wakes up and joins the crew of dudes as they speak with Ozpin. The talking head reveals some interesting things, such how his reincarnation ability was counter. Trapping his soul, then make sure it has nowhere else to go by killing everyone it could have went to. And yes, that does mean that Oscar is dead in this continuity. I have nothing against the character, but he is one of those rwby characters I never had any interest in writing for my stories. However, he does show how broken Ozpin is now. Ozpin not only saw ever kill of the Headless Huntsman, while having no control of his body, but witnessing Oscar's death is what made him want to give up the most. Which I would say is the darkest death in this series. At least, so far. Skipping a bit of ahead, the rest of Ozpin's body show up this chapter with a new weapon for decapitation. Yet, the true owner of that sword shows up, as Gramps proves who is the King of Death in this world. Like with Salem, you know when the character is talking, and should heed those words. Now, he will be the one to speak for Ozpin, as they still have more to discuss. Sadly, that will have to wait until next season, as I have other series I need to show some attention to. I will return to this story, possibly within six months or so. Next season, you will get more clarity of what just happened here, the final counterattack of against the White Fang Killers, and a whole lot more drama heading towards Clockwork Academy. That is all for now, thanks for reading, and hope to see you in the next chapter.
