Copperhead:

"I can't believe I let her talk me into this," he muttered to himself as he flew across the Bay of a Thousand Scales. He thought the plan was for them to come here together, but then she pointed out that her disappearing would be really suspicious. She wrote a letter addressed to Queen Pearl then sent him on his way with nothing more than a 'good luck' before leaving for the cave where Darkstalker and Clearsight lived.

It was his decision to agree, he supposed. He could have said no, but he had already promised to help. That happened a few days ago, and he had been flying alone into enemy territory ever since. Honestly, he was surprised he hadn't been spotted yet. Or maybe he had, and the Seawings were waiting to see what he was doing.

If he remembered right, the Seawing's Summer Palace should be another five or so hours away, according to the maps in his mother's pavilion. He was pretty sure the Seawings meant for the location to be a secret, but his mother's spy network was quite extensive.

After another two hours of silent flying with only the occasional seagull for company, he finally spotted movement below the surface. Three Seawings were shadowing him from below, and three more took to the skies a fair distance in front of him, spears raised and snarls on their muzzles.

Copperhead stopped and began hovering in place as the three Seawings below him launched and spread out behind him. The three in front of him spread out in a similar manner until there was nowhere to go except down. The lead dragon, a rather large male that was missing an eye addressed him. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now," he challenged with a growl.

Slowly, Copperhead reached out and pulled out the scroll Indigo had given him. "I have a letter addressed to Queen Pearl," he tried.

He scoffed. "Unless it's a letter of surrender, I doubt the Queen would be interested in anything Anaconda has to say."

Copperhead took a deep breath. He wasn't entirely sure this was the best course of action, but Indigo said that if they knew who he was, they wouldn't kill him. "This isn't a letter from my mother," he revealed, and the Seawing Captain suddenly looked a lot more interested.

"Really? Hmm…" he hummed in thought for a minute, though he did lower his spear ever-so-slightly. "What would Queen Anaconda's son be doing out here alone? And who exactly is that letter of yours from?"

Indigo hadn't mentioned what to do in this situation. On one claw, the Seawing Captain seemed interested in what he had to say, but he wasn't sure if he would take to kindly to mentioning Indigo's name. She was wanted, after all. On the other claw, he wasn't sure who else's name to say that would make the Captain understand its importance. "It's from Indigo," he confessed after a short pause.

Whatever reaction he expected from the Captain, it wasn't what he got. His eye widened, and he ordered his squadron to lower their weapons. "She's alive!? Where is she!?" he asked, excitedly, and Copperhead had to wonder why this Seawing seemed to care so much about Indigo.

"She's still in the Rainforest," he answered, a bit hesitantly. "She can't leave, so she asked me to deliver this letter for her."

"She's a prisoner?" he demanded, suddenly serious.

"…Sort of? It's kind of complicated." The Seawing seemed to mull over that for a moment, but Copperhead couldn't help himself. "Why do you care so much about Indigo?"

"She's my daughter," came the unexpected reply. Though, as he studied the Seawing a bit further, he did notice a very slight purple tint to his scales, and the bioluminescent pattern on his wings did seem similar. "Are you a friend of hers then?" Copperhead nodded an affirmative, so the Captain ordered his squad to take up escort positions. "Follow me. I'm sure the Queen and Commander Trench will want to meet you personally."

Copperhead fell into position, and they continued the flight to their destination. It was still quite a ways away, so he decided that their was no better time to sate his curiosity. "I'm Copperhead, by the way," he called up to introduce himself.

"I'm Cove," the Captain replied, falling back to fly beside him. The other soldiers adjusted their formation accordingly. "How is she?" he asked, and Copperhead soon found himself telling him a simplified version of the story of what's been going on in the Rainforest.

After that was finished, the two fell into silence. Then, Cove thanked him for the report, and took his position back in the lead. It wasn't long after that that their destination entered visual range. They escorted him through a small series of underwater tunnels, and then he popped out into a pool surrounded by six Seawings as a few dozen others stared at him in curiosity or confusion.

Cove ordered one of the Seawings to go find Commander Trench, and then they waited for what seemed like an hour before a massive Seawing walked into the main atrium. The Commander—or at least he assumed it was the Commander—locked gazes with him, and his gaze narrowed dangerously.

However, he was broken out of his spell when he saw a familiar face enter behind him. He stared at her, completely dumbfounded, until she saw him. "Copper?" she asked, sounding as if she couldn't entirely believe he was here. She looked to the large Seawing, and he sighed with a roll of his eyes, motioning for her to go ahead.

She ran up to him, and for the first time in years, she seemed genuinely happy to see him. He climbed out of the pool to meet her, and they embraced warmly. A few hours ago, he had been less than happy about flying to the Sea Kingdom. Now, though, as he hugged his sister, he was immensely grateful that Indigo convinced him to come. "I missed you, Cobra," he told her, his voice slightly shaky from the onrush of emotions.

She hugged him tighter. "You know something? I was starting to miss you, too."

AN: I know I took some creative liberties with Indigo's father. Neither the series nor the Wiki mention who Indigo's parents were or if she had any siblings, so I gave her a father, at the very least. Hopefully, that's alright with everyone.

The next one will be a direct continuation of this chapter, but it'll be from Trench's POV once again.

Until Next Time
