"...my age?" Kagome asked, repeating what it was the kids in front of her were inquiring about. "Why do you ask?"
"Because, we were curious." Sakura said, bowing her head in shame for asking a woman her age. She'd been taught better by her parents, yet here she was.
Sasuke scoffed, "it's no big deal, is it?"
"No..." Kagome frowned, "I'm thirty-one." The saucer shaped eyes that stared back at Kagome had her laughing, "how funny..."
"You don't...look..." Sasuke couldn't finish his sentence. Everyday when he saw her, he'd always think about how beautiful she was, and how he wanted to be able to protect and care for her when he was older, yet... "there's no way."
Kagome shrugged, turning her attention back to what she'd been doing before they'd come running up to her. Standing barefoot outside, she was sweeping away the leaves that had fallen onto the walkway. "I don't blame you, I don't know when or if I'll ever age...but, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it?"
"Wait, Kagome...did you learn an eternal youth Jutsu?" Naruto asked curiously.
Another chuckle passed her lips, "I don't think there is such a thing, Naruto."
Sakura frowned, "there might be Jutsu out there that can preserve one's youth. I think they might be medical Jutsu though."
"Well, if there is, I don't know it. Now...is my pop quiz for the day done, or were there more questions I needed to answer?" She grinned, "don't you guys have a long day tomorrow as well? You should prep while you can."
"Prep?" Sakura asked.
"Train, study, sharpen your kunai and other weapons. Whatever..."
Sasuke frowned, but nodded, "she's right, I'll see you both tomorrow at six."
"Yeah, alright. See you both tomorrow then!" Sakura called out as she ran home herself.
Naruto didn't budge. He was staring at Kagome with a deep frown on his face, "hey, Kagome!"
"...hm?"
Walking up to her, he grabbed her arms and pulled her so that she dropped down to his eye level a bit. "This...where did you get this?!"
She blinked and looked at where his eyes were staring, "oh...I was training."
"You train!?" He asked in surprise, "oh, that's right...you were fighting against Mizuki and protected Sasuke and I too. Nai, Kagome...can't you let Sasuke and I protect you?"
Blue eyes sparkled as Kagome stared in awe at Naruto, her arms came down and wrapped around his shoulders as she pulled him into a hug. "Naruto..."
He brought his own hands to her shoulders and returned the gesture, but a serious look was in his eyes as his fingers tightened his hold on her.
"Rather than the two of you protecting just me...how about the three of us swear to protect one another? No matter what the cost, you, Sasuke and I... we will always be there for each other."
He nodded, "...alright then...I think I can agree to that. Because, no matter what, I'll make sure that neither myself or Sasuke are in a predicament where you ever need to throw your life away to protect us or get hurt for us."

(Four Months Later)
Kagome was lying flat on her back, sweating and heaving heavy breaths as she stared up in exhaustion. 'It's beautiful...she smiled to herself.' The sky was clear, bright, blue...and fluffs of soft looking clouds were randomly scattered throughout the sky.
"Are you done already?"
She laughed, "look at yourself, old man." She sat up and looked to see the heavily breathing Hokage across from her. He wasn't in quite as bad a shape as she was, but they'd been pushing themselves since early morning.
"Respect your elders, Kagome."
She laughed, "yeah, yeah...I hear ya." She stood up and got back into a fighting stance, but they didn't get a chance to continue when one of his Elite Bodyguards showed up and interrupted their training.
"Genma,"
He raised a hand to Kagome before walking over to the Hokage, leaning in and speaking softly so that she couldn't pick up what they were saying. Not that she really cared...
"Mm, I see...they are back without injuries though?"
Genma nodded, glancing over to Kagome, he called out in his normal monotonous voice. "Naruto is looking for you."
Kagome perked up at that, "they're back?" They had left almost two months ago on their first out of village mission, and she'd been worried not hearing from them for so long. "I'll be leaving first, Old Man!"

Kagome frowned, having just left the Hokage's office, she had been informed that the Genin Team under Kakashi had left moments before she'd arrived. Spreading her aura out, she picked Naruto, Sakura and a group of others not too far away. She ran in the direction of her favorite little blonde, so excited, she almost didn't feel the threat in the air.
"KONOHAMARU!"
"KONOHAMARU!"
"Hey! Cut it out! It hurts~!"
Kagome stopped silently behind the duo who was terrorizing her kids. "Hi there~" she watched the two turn and smiled as she caught sight of their headbands. She glanced past them and smiled in Naruto and Sakura's direction, "Welcome back, I hope the two of you had fun out of the village." She said, taking the group by surprise. She returned her attention to the two nin in front of her and moved a bit closer, stopping about two feet away. "Honorable guests of the Village Hidden in the Sand, please place the Lord Hokage's grandson down,"
The guy who was holding him, scoffed and dropped him, "his grandson? Should I be impressed?"
She eyed the two and shook her head, "no, not at all...I simply wanted to avoid any misunderstandings. I have no real reason to intervene, but he is my Sensei's grandson, so I would prefer him not being angered because of a careless mistake on your part. May I have your names?"
"..." the blonde stepped forward and glanced over her, "what's it to you?"
"Hm,"
"Hey, watch how you talk to her!" Naruto yelled, Konohamaru now hiding behind him and out of the way of the sand ninjas.
"What's that?" The male of the two growled out, walking over to Kagome, he made to put his hand on her when a stone struck his knuckles and caused him to pull back almost as soon as he'd reached out. "What!?"
Glancing up at Sasuke, she smiled and almost laughed when he quickly turned away.
"You guys are a long way from home, and your way out of your league."
"Sasuke!"
"Yeah~! Sasuke!" Naruto grinned as his friend made an appearance.
She watched for a moment as the level of pretentiousness grew. No, Sasuke wasn't a poser in the least, but his grandstanding left much to be desired. Though, she recalled a similar attitude when Kakashi was his age.
"You're the type of pesky snot I hate the most, all attitude and nothing to back it up." He pulled whatever was wrapped up tightly from his back and let it drop to the ground.
"What!? Are you gonna use the Crow for this?"
She felt another arrival and turned her eyes to meet the eyes of a red-haired, aqua marine eyed boy. He was silent, and it seemed as though no one else noticed him. 'Maybe I should consider teaching them to sense aura's...'
"Kankuro...back off."
The shock was ever apparent as everyone's faces changed at the sound of his voice.
"You're an embarrassment to our village."
"Oh...uh, heh...hey Gaara..."
"Hm, things are getting a bit tense...perhaps you guys should reconsider starting fights," she stepped forward while the guy in front of her wasn't paying attention, taking his hand and gripping it in a vice, albeit gentle grip when he went to pull away from her. "Don't," she said simply, pushing some of her healing energy over his injury and helping the pain to fade and the wound to heal. She let it go and passed him as she made her way to the kids before her. "I assume you three are here for the Chuunin Exam?" Silence met her ears and she turned and met the eyes of the only female in the group, "Honorable Sand Nin, I wish the three of you all the luck...and may you find your stay in Konoha, enjoyable." She bowed before weaving through the group. Sakura got the clue and dragged Naruto and Konohamaru after her, his friends following quickly after their leader. Sasuke was the only one left as he stood and watched the three of them for a moment before he too...vanished.
