Disclaimer: I do not own Suicide Squad or any of the characters. I only own my OC.
A/N: It's been awhile, hasn't it? Yeah...well...I suck. But I had the need to update again after seeing Birds of Prey, which was amazing. I had a blast watching it and I loved all the new characters that were introduced. My favorites though were Black Canary and Huntress.
While I was watching the movie I just kept picturing Estelle there with Harley and the others and that just made me want to laugh because I know that we are all fans of Harley and Estelle.
Now I know originally this was supposed to be a Harley/Estelle/Joker pairing, and there will probably be scenes with the three of them later on, but just FYI this story will be a Harley/Estelle endgame pairing. So I will eventually cover the Birds of Prey story-line. Plus why wouldn't I cover that story-line? It was freakin' awesome and I really want Estelle to also interact with Roman Sionis, who Ewan McGregor did a great job portraying. He had that whole untamed, flamboyant, creepy vibe down perfectly. And I can just imagine how he'd react to Estelle, especially after seeing what she can do with her powers once close to her.
I'd imagine he'd want to keep her close to him the same way he kept Black Canary close to him. He's a collector after all and I totally see him as the type to want to collect metahumans to use them for his own personal advantages if possible. Plus Estelle has history with Harley, so that will make Roman interested in her even more.
So look forward to that...but for now we have the Suicide Squad story-line to finish.
Also it didn't occur to me how Estelle had a similar childhood to Mindy/Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass. How awesome is that xD
I also saw Shazam and I LOVED it. I would definitely like to see his character somehow interact with the Justice League. I know the scenes between Billy and Estelle would be hilarious. She would totally see him as a little brother figure.

Chapter 15: What's done is done
George "Digger" Harkness (or Captain Boomerang as he preferred―only his friends called him Digger and he had no actual friends) liked to think he had great observational skills. He had to with the amount of robberies he'd done in his life. All of which he'd gotten away with. Well, with the exception of one due to that damn red streak metahuman. Except he didn't like thinking about that robbery gone bad because he hated thinking about the guy in red and his damn grin when he caught him.
Now obviously if one were to ask just about anyone else if he actually had great observational skills, they'd totally disagree with him. A certain red dressed superhero would certainly think so. However, in his egotistical mind, Captain Boomerang thought he had the right skills in that department.
For instance he noticed ever since joining the others how Harley was extra close to the blue eyed Sheila. The metahuman. Even right now. It was painfully obvious that the platinum blonde was trying her best to start another conversation with her. Estelle wasn't having it, hence why she kept walking ahead of her but the Queen of Gotham was persistent.
Like a puppy wanting its owner's full attention.
That amused Captain Boomerang. Which was great considering he'd been locked up for who knows how long now. He didn't like solitude, in fact he despised it. So he welcomed any amusement that could be thrown his way. Not to mention, it was funny not only seeing the annoyed expression Estelle would get, but also the flustered one.
The dark haired Sheila could deny it all she wanted but he knew the metahuman was smitten alright, she just wasn't admitting it to herself yet. Not that he blamed Estelle. Harley was too batshit crazy. Even for him. Sure Harely was beautiful on the outside but she was an absolute mess on the inside. He wouldn't want to deal with someone like that. Before being locked up he heard about Harley and the Joker and what they were known for. It was nothing good, that was for sure.
Captain Boomerang couldn't help but almost feel sorry for Estelle, key word almost. She was a metahuman after all, and ever since that red streak got him locked up his view on metahumans wasn't the best. It was obvious that everyone in the group must have known his dislike towards them by now. That's why he didn't hide his smirks whenever Harley tried making a move on Estelle.
In all seriousness, as much as it was entertaining to see such a display, Captain Boomerang knew Harley's enamoring over Estelle could also serve as a great distraction for what he planned to do.
Regarding the whole bomb in their neck crap, after thinking about it he realized there was a fifty-fifty chance. Either the bombs were real as Waller and Rick said, or it was all talk and he and the others were just being tricked into thinking they were real. Either way he needed to know for himself...well, not for himself per say but he needed to know...and he was going to find out soon enough.
Captain Boomerang eyes landed on the one person he knew he'd be able to convince into falling for his idea. Rick was up at front, Katana was towards the back and Estelle was still being bothered by Harley. Now was his only chance. He swiftly made his way to Slipknot's side.
"Mind games." Captain Boomerang whispered, causing Slipknot to look at him.
"What's that?" Slipknot quietly asked.
"All this bomb in the neck crap." Captain Boomerang easily answered him. "That ain't real mate. See, they're trying to trap us with our own minds, right? But look around, we're free, bruh." He discreetly gestured to the empty streets of Midway City. No people, just deserted stores and damaged cars. It looked like a scene straight from an apocalypse film.
Slipknot was still wary about the whole thing. "How do you know this?"
Captain Boomerang remained calm. "Just trust me on this. I know, alright? It's a con." He assured him. His tone was the same one he used when convincing people to join one of his robberies, right before ultimately betraying them in the end. "Now I'm going because I have a life to live. Question is, are you coming?"
Slipknot stayed silent as he stared at Captain Boomerang. He thought that if he stared long enough he'd be able to find any doubt to what he was suggesting. He didn't find any, much to Captain Boomerang's delight. Any suspicion Slipknot had disappeared when he nodded his head, and unknown to him that in result sealed his fate.
Captain Boomerang grinned widely, showing the gold tooth he had. "Smart."
No sooner after he responded, Captain Boomerang gave Slipknot a signal to act now. Taking everyone by surprise, Captain Boomerang then punched the nearest soldier to him as Slipknot took that as his chance to hit another soldier, causing him to fall. Once he had an opening to run he took it without any more thinking. Slipknot used one of his weapons and instantly started to climb away on one of the empty business buildings.
As this occurred, Captain Boomerang remained on the ground. He reached for one of his trusty boomerangs and threw it at another soldier. He smirked as he watched the soldier get hit by it. He then began to run away but unfortunately for him someone caught up to him.
Within seconds, Katana had pinned against a wall with her sword against his neck. For a moment there he was strangely relieved that it had been her who caught him and not Estelle. He did not want to get blasted by her again. It sucked the first time, and as she put it the hit was only half charged. He did not want to feel what a full on blast was like.
"Hold your fire." Rick ordered his men after seeing a few of them raise their guns.
The sound of something coming towards Captain Boomerang and Katana had her glaring at him, and it only intensified when she saw that it was his boomerang he had caught.
Captain Boomerang kept his cool even with her sword on his neck. "Sorry, they do that." Katana's glare remained which just made him release a short laugh. She was a feisty one alright, even more than the blue eyed Sheila. Speaking of her, Captain Boomerang could see behind Katana's hold how Estelle and the others were watching Slipknot. He kept his gaze on the man, somewhat hopeful.
"You've got to be freakin' kidding me." Estelle groaned as she watched the scene play out. It didn't take a genius to know that shit was now about to go down. Real life and death kind of shit...and she wasn't looking forward to that.
Rick waited to see if Slipknot would see reason and return...but he didn't. What he knew would happen next wasn't something he took joy in but it needed to be done. None of the criminals could escape. This had to be an example of another consequence that would happen if they tried to escape.
Not giving him any more chances, Rick pulled out the device he had for the bombs and pressed the button with Slipknot's face that activated the bomb to go off. Slipknot, who seconds ago had been climbing, was now dead with his body swinging in the air.
There was silence as they watched the body that was in the air. Captain Boomerang had a disappointing look now realizing that the bombs in their necks were real. Damn.
The silence was soon broken.
Harley giggled. "Now that's a killer app!" She said this as she leaned against Estelle. The smile she had on almost fell when she felt how tense her bestie was.
"Now's not the time for that kind of shit, Harley." Estelle muttered as she moved away from the platinum blonde.
Some part of Estelle was bothered that seeing somebody get killed right in front of them wasn't bothering Harley in any way. However, Estelle then remembered that this was Harley Quinn after all.
The Queen of Gotham.
Given her relationship with the Joker, Estelle was sure the platinum blonde must have seen worse. Much worse. It was for that very reason that her words to Harley didn't pack much of a punch. Besides, how could they really? All the twenty-one year could focus on was the dead body that hung in the air. Unlike Harley, it did get to Estelle. Even despite knowing that it was a huge possibility someone would die that way.
She had to remind herself that her father, given his dark past, must have seen death all the time. He was able to pull through...and now she would too. She closed her eyes for a brief second and tried to get her mind elsewhere. It worked somewhat but hearing Rick's voice had her opening her eyes again. Harley remained watchful beside her bestie, her expression was one of peer bemusement.
What had her bestie been thinking about when closing her eyes?
This question remained in her head as she reluctantly began listening to what Flag was saying.
"Okay, you wanna keep playing the Hollywood Squares version of 'I'll Blow Your Freaking Head Off'?" Rick shouted as he glared around the group of criminals. His gaze landed onto Chato Santana. "Are you next?"
El Diablo didn't like how he directed his attention onto him. He glared at the Colonel. "You're trippin' homie."
Rick's attention settled onto Deadshot. That had Estelle inwardly panicking, already knowing that was a bad choice.
"You next, Deadshot?"
Deadshot narrowed his eyes at him, irritated. "You just threaten me?"
Rick showed no fear with the way Deadshot was sizing him up. He wasn't about to back down. "Oh, yeah."
Estelle wanted to face-palm herself, or better yet she wanted to smack Rick on the head for continuing this macho attitude. Who in their right mind would want to make another escape attempt after seeing the neck bomb go off? She suddenly felt the hairs on her arms stand up when Deadshot got up in Rick's face.
"He just threatened me." Deadshot took a few steps back to look at the others before pointing his finger at Rick. He was about to get in Rick's personal space again but Estelle got in front of the Colonel. The anger in Deadshot's eyes faltered as did his steps when he saw how protective she got over Flag.
"Back off, now. I won't ask again." Estelle warned him. The palms of her hands were beginning to show that blue light of hers. Although she was giving him a look that resembled a glare, Deadshot knew that there was more concern than anger there. Concern that was aimed towards him considering the power Rick had over his and everyone else's life. Killing Slipknot just proved that...the bombs really did work.
Deadshot knew getting into a fight with Flag wasn't worth it. Not yet anyways. If he wanted Flag dead he needed to be smart about how that was going to happen. He looked past Estelle towards Rick, gave him a hard stare before walking away.
Estelle let out a breath of relief. The blue light of hers from her palms went away as she relaxed. Another crisis averted...for now. She really hoped that Deadshot wouldn't try anything with Rick. Sure they had somewhat of a past (if one encounter could even be considered a past) but Estelle was there to serve as backup for Rick. If somehow things got out of hand with the group, Estelle was going to be on Rick's side.
She really didn't have a choice. All of this was for Lilly.
"Stella!" Harley whined. She was disappointed that her bestie wasn't standing near her anymore. Just as she was about to rush to her side the look Estelle gave her stopped her in her tracks.
"Harley, no."
Yikes, Harley took notice that Estelle not only sounded more annoyed than before, but she also looked at it. She didn't like that one bit. She figured it had more to do with what happened to Slipknot and her having to act as a shield for Rick. The Queen of Gotham scowled at him.
Damn Colonel had to ruin all the fun.
"Alright everyone, move." Rick ordered firmly.
"You got a boyfriend?" Captain Boomerang flirted with Katana.
The Asian woman said nothing as she removed the sword from his neck. With a gesture she told him to join the others who were now walking again. Captain Boomerang did exactly as she ordered but not without throwing her another smirk.
The group kept going forward, Rick couldn't help but glance at Estelle. During the confrontation with Deadshot she came to his aid. In his mind he had the whole thing under control but she still came to his side. Her powers included her having the ability to create force fields, yet she herself acted as a human shield when Deadshot tried getting close to him again. That made him realize yet again how serious she was about serving as his backup.
It worried him as much it relieved him. He was relieved because she clearly was still on his side, but he was worried because that meant she would constantly be putting herself in danger. It was during these glances that he finally noticed the solemn expression she had. That to him was understandable considering they had seen someone die. It pained him that she had to see that.
"Estelle?" The Colonel finally called out as they kept walking.
"Some naive part of me was hoping you wouldn't have to use it." Estelle quietly told him. By no means was death a foreign concept to her. Even before her parents' passing, the topic of death was often discussed between her father and her. Mainly it was her father telling her the various ways she could hurt or kill someone if they ever tried anything with her. Self-defense obviously. Her father didn't raise a monster.
Anyways, that was all discussed between them when he was training her growing up. Other parents would have frowned, and also been horrified to know that he taught his child from a young age on how to break someone's arm, or permanently render them paralyzed but to Estelle that was just bonding time with her father. Despite her childhood not being as normal as others, she actually missed those father daughter bonding moments.
A memory of when she turned ten came to mind. While her mother had given her a pretty blue dress for her birthday, her father (unknown to her mother) had given her a bottle of pepper spray along with a butterfly knife. After showing her how to use the butterfly knife properly, they then went to an amusement park and got ice cream afterwards from her favorite ice cream shop. To Estelle that was one of her most cherished memories with her father. She actually still had that butterfly knife. It was tucked away safely in one of her bedroom drawers.
Somehow the memory, along with what happened caused her to ask her next question.
Estelle briefly touched her little sister's butterfly necklace. "Does that make me stupid? For thinking that way?" Her question was so sudden and soft sounding that it had Rick frowning. Not from annoyance but from sadness one can say.
There was once a point in time when he thought the same way as Estelle. "No." He found himself answering, earnest. "It just means you're optimistic." Which ironically wasn't always the best thing but he wasn't about to tell her that.
Estelle didn't say anything, just stared at him. Her expression got to him though. Rick didn't like seeing Estelle so crestfallen and a part of him wanted to comfort her. Except he didn't because unfortunately there was no time for that. They needed to continue on with the mission. "What's done is done." He firmly responded, sounding like the colonel that he was. "Come on, let's just keep moving."
Estelle continued to say nothing as she followed alongside him.
Unknown to the Colonel and Estelle, Deadshot glared at his departing figure. "I'm gonna kill him." He shared in disdain with Harley. They were lingering towards the back with a few guards watching their every move. He doubted they could hear them but he still kept his voice low. He expected Harley to respond right away with what he said, except she didn't.
Deadshot noticed how the platinum blonde was being eerily quiet. He had to assume it was because Estelle had left her side. Despite the short time they had together, Deadshot could already tell how close Harley had gotten to the dark haired metahuman.
"Just him?" Harley finally spoke. She discreetly looked at Estelle who was walking alongside the Colonel. "What about our darling Stella?" As much as it annoyed Harley that Estelle had Rick's back, she knew the real reason behind Estelle's protectiveness. Rick safely ensured the heart surgery her sister needed. Therefore, Harley wasn't expecting Estelle to lower her guard when it came to protecting Rick anytime soon.
Sure by Harley's terms Estelle was a dorky little do-gooder...but she was her dorkly little do-gooder. So Harley didn't want anything happening to her bestie. Plus, Stella still had to meet her Puddin'.
Deadshot just gave her a look that strangely comforted her. Estelle, much to Harley's delight (who he called College for some reason) wasn't on his shit list, unlike Rick and the other soldiers. "I ain't got shit with College. She's cool, just as long as she doesn't get in the way."
Harley was relieved. However, she let out a huff once she said the one thing that kept popping into her head. "She's his backup. She's not gonna let anything happen to him." Her bestie had that whole heart of gold thing going on. If it was someone else they were discussing Harley would have found that heart of gold thing to be revolting...but it was Estelle they were talking about.
Deadshot remained firm despite his eyes losing anger. Harley noticed it was the same way he looked when Estelle stepped forward to guard Rick. "Like I said...as long as she doesn't get in the way. You can make sure of that, can't you?"
Harley swung her baseball bat over her shoulder. "Sure can do." She happily assured him. "Well, anyways you better make it quick." She said, gesturing towards Flag. "Because he's gonna kill all of us, one by one."
"I'm gonna drop him, the sword lady, and five or seven of these Seals, but after that I'm gonna need some help." Deadshot eyed her. "You down?"
Harley looked forward as they kept walking. "Always, but what about the shits in our necks?" After seeing what happened with Slipknot, there was no way Harley wanted to suffer the same fate. Getting killed by a bomb in her neck was not how she pictured she'd kick the bucket. She always pictured her death to be more extravagant than that...not that she wanted to die anytime soon.
Deadshot lowered his voice even more with what he said next. "Your friend's gonna help us out with that right?"
Harley knew who Deadshot was referring to and it tickled her pink that he'd think her Puddin' would help anybody else that wasn't her. Estelle for sure but not so much with the others. Still, Harley smiled his way.
"You're my friend too."
Deadshot lightly shook his head, not fully falling for what she said. Still, it was at least better than a flat out no. Besides, with Harley no one ever really knew what went on in her head. Though he'd rather make a deal with her than with any of the other criminals there with them. As the saying went, better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
"Stay evil, doll face. Spread the word."
Harley gave him one last wicked smile before he walked away from her. Once alone she looked towards her bestie. Her smile almost completely fell when she saw how close she was to Rick. That pissed her off and the feeling of jealousy from before returned. Except it wasn't the same jealousy that she felt when Katana made her entrance and she saw how fascinated Stella was by her.
No, this was something else. Harley hated how loyal Estelle was to Rick. She reminded herself that it was because of her sister but Harley still found herself wishing that it was her who Estelle was loyal to. With her, Estelle wouldn't have to worry about getting hurt...okay...well, she would get hurt but not seriously, and most importantly she'd at least have fun with her. Flag wasn't fun, he was a total bore. She'd lost count of the times he yelled at her...party pooper.
Not to mention Flag was more of a threat to Stella than herself.
The way Harley saw it no one was going to hurt her bestie, and if push came to shove she'd manage to get her Puddin' to help out in her sister's heart surgery. After years of stealing and whatnot they had the money. Anything to make Stella happy. She knew her Puddin' would offer his services after seeing Stella's powers for himself. He was just going to love her!
Now all Harley needed to do was to get Rick out of the way without Estelle getting involved. A challenge alright, but Harley loved challenges. The Queen of Gotham smiled as she made her way to where Captain Boomerang was at.
She had work that needed to be done.
