Creepy story: my word document automatically opened when I started my computer today 3/16/19. That's the first time it's ever done that. When the universe gives you a sign to write, you pretty much have to.

It's been 2 years, but I'm back to updating this fanfic. Yay!

Mr. Satan glared as Gohan bit into one of the flower-cut shaped fruits. Videl was a few hours late. The servants and Mr. Satan's wife had already eaten and gone to bed.

"You disgust me." Mr Satan growled, sulking in his chair. He watched Gohan use both hands to shove food into his mouth, seeming to grow hungrier with each bite. Mr. Satan's eyes widened. The polite, meek teenager was steadily being replaced by a starving, manner less, wild boy.

"Uhh…maybe you should chew?" Mr. Satan suggested after Gohan swallowed a massive fish the size of the table, bones and all.

Gohan belched, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, muttering," Excuse me," then continued to eat. Mr. Satan cautiously removed his hands from the table and safely out of Gohan's reach. Within minutes, all the food that could've fed at least a dozen people was reduced to crumbs. Almost nothing was left.

Gohan clapped his hands together." I'm sorry I couldn't wait any longer! I really tried! Do you think Videl will be mad I didn't save her anything to eat?"

Mr. Satan blinked. He'd never seen a person eat so much in his entire life!

Is this boy even human? For a second there, I thought he was going to start eating me next! Mr. Satan coughed." Oh, I'm sure she'll be very mad when she gets home, but it's her fault for not getting here on time. Well, I guess I'll stand by the front door and wait for my little girl to come home…"

"Okay," Gohan innocently blinked." I'll join you."

Gohan stared up at the night sky while Mr. Satan glared at him, seated on a plastic lawn chair near one of the rose bushes. It was past midnight. Videl hadn't so much as called or texted her father. Mr. Satan feared that she had gotten hurt while doing community service for the police, or was out with a boy, or was being held for ransom somewhere, or. . . maybe this was the day that Videl decided she didn't need her father anymore, and would never come back. A thousand horrific possibilities played in his head, but it looked as if Videl's new wimpy, stargazing husband couldn't care less.

"You could at least pretend like you're worried," Mr. Satan grumbled.

Gohan glanced down at his father in law, then back at the stars. The night sky in Satan City was different from the one back at home in Mt. Paozu. There seemed to be the same overwhelming number of stars, but they were different somehow. At home they just looked prettier.

Gohan closed his eyes as he concentrated, then opened them a few moments later. He smiled. " You don't have to worry about Videl, sir. I'm positive she's alright."

"What, are you some type of psychic now?" Mr. Satan sighed, putting no real weight into the boy's words." Videl sure did pick a winner," he thought sarcastically. There was no doubt in his mind that his son-in-law was weird. "If you're tired, just go to bed. There's no need to make up such stupid excuses."

"But I'm not—"

"I don't want to hear anymore excuses!" Mr. Satan smirked." Go on, go to bed wimpy boy. It's past your bedtime. If Videl had married a strong man like I wanted her to, then he'd be out there finding my daughter for me, and I'd be inside the house laying next to my new hot wife. But no, she chose you, so it's up to me to make sure my little girl gets home safe and sound, even if that means sacrificing the night I could've shared with my hot wife." Mr. Satan took out a cigar from his robe's pocket and lit it.

Gohan's fists trembled at his sides. Arguing or defending himself would be pointless. To some extent, Mr. Satan was right, he was a wimp. He'd basically stopped training since Goku died. He was nowhere near as strong as he used to be. He only had to endure Mr. Satan's hatred for four years, maybe three years if he studied hard enough, then he could divorce Videl. Until then he just had to get used to Mr. Satan's insults.

"Goodnight, sir," Gohan weakly mumbled as he turned and walked back inside the house. He didn't walk straight to his room, however. He looked up the stairs and hesitantly put his hand on the stair railing.

"Should I...?" He wondered.

. +. + . + . + .

Gohan didn't turn on Videl's bedroom light. The room was so white and clean, he had no trouble finding the edge of the bed. He sat down, facing the closed doors leading out to the balcony. A normal person wouldn't have been able to hear the girl's pants and whispered curses that scaled the balcony's wall, but Gohan was trained to sense things beyond the average person's senses. He didn't completely blame Mr. Satan for not knowing that Videl had already come home. If only Mr. Satan had listened to him when he was trying to talk earlier.

The balcony doors opened.

Videl stepped inside with both hands outstretched as she blindly felt her way through her bedroom.

" So, she doesn't do this often," Gohan realized, which brought him some relief. Had Videl snuck into the house on a regular basis, she'd have easily walked across the room and turned on the light by now.

Gohan waited until Videl was close enough to the light switch to say," Welcome home."

Videl gasped. Her thumb moved, intending to flick on the light switch beneath her fingertips and reveal the man who was sitting in the dark waiting for her.

In less than a second Gohan had crossed the room and stood directly in front of the scared girl. His large hand was on top of hers, stopping her from turning on the light. She trembled beneath his touch.

"Don't. You'll give yourself away," Gohan said softly, knowing that Mr. Satan would race into the house the second he saw his daughter's bedroom light. Gohan didn't enjoy seeing Mr. Satan worry about his only daughter's well-being. Gohan was tired and only wanted to go to bed. Videl and Mr. Satan would shout and fight until morning if he knew Videl was home. That would only wake up Mr. Satan's wife and the sleeping servants.

Videl inhaled Gohan's scent and relaxed. It was her scrawny, non-threatening husband. For a horrible second she thought a creepy stalker had broken into her bedroom.

"Thanks, that was a close one, "she said.

"Have you eaten?"

Videl thought for a moment." Yes. I ate at my friend's house."

Gohan nodded, relieved that she had already eaten. He had eaten the dinner he said he'd prepare for her, so it was a good thing she wasn't expecting to be fed. He also never figured out what her favorite food was, but that was okay. He had years to learn his wife's favorite foods.

" I'm glad you ate. Well, goodnight." Gohan said, he turned back to the door, intending on going to his room and straight to bed.

"Oh, um, okay. Goodnight."

The disappointment in Videl's voice halted Gohan in his steps.

"What's wrong?" He asked. His eyes widened, realizing that Videl couldn't see in the dark as easily as he could. He could practically hear his mother screaming at him to be a gentleman and at least help her find her bed. " Oh, I forgot you can't see in the dark that well. I'm so sorry! Here, I'll help you to your bed."

"No, that's not—"

Videl released a startled yelp as Gohan scooped her up in his arms and carried her to her bed. She bounced twice after being tossed, and probably would've bounced onto the floor if she hadn't clung onto the bed sheets.

"Oops. Sorry about that," Gohan nervously laughed. He had momentarily forgotten that Videl was a girl and not a playful little boy like Goten, whom he always carried to bed. He needed to be much gentler when it came to Videl, he realized.

" Do you need me to find your pajamas, too?"

Videl's face turned red at the thought of Gohan going through her dresser drawers and accidentally touching her underwear. Which was bound to happen since she kept her pajamas folded next to her underwear in the top drawer.

"Get out of my room already!" Videl snapped. She grabbed her pillow and blindly threw it at him.

Gohan hurried out of Videl's room, slamming her door shut and leaning against it like a shield. She didn't hurl another pillow or chase after him. It scared him how quickly Videl became angry without warning, and for no reason.

"What the heck did I do?!"

. + . + . + . + .

Videl rolled over on her side in bed, hugging her soft pillow close to her body. Her blue eyes sparkled with emotion.

"Have you eaten?"

Videl thought for a moment." Yes. I ate at my friend's house."

Videl squeezed her pillow like a snake squeezing its prey.

" That's good. Well, goodnight." Gohan said.

"Oh, um, okay. Goodnight."

"He didn't even ask if my friend was a boy or not," Videl bitterly muttered. She buried her face into her pillow and freely let out her tears. She couldn't be that upset. Her husband barely knew her. He had only married her for the money, so of course he wouldn't care if she was with a boy or not. Still, he could've pretended to care.

Videl wiped away her salty tears with her fingers. At least her father cared about her. She'd peeked out the window earlier and saw that he was pacing through the front yard outside. She couldn't wait to see his stupid expression when she skipped out the front door on her way to school. She pulled the blanket over her shoulder and closed her eyes. Her breathing became more rhythmic as she started to fall asleep.

" Oh, I forgot you can't see in the dark that well. I'm so sorry! Here, I'll help you to your bed."

Gohan's voice replayed in her head like a song on repeat. His mystery was keeping her awake.

Why was he able to see so well in the dark?

She recalled how his voice had greeted her from the bed, yet he was standing directly in front of her less than a second later, which wasn't humanly possible.

Also, how did he know she'd climb through her balcony window? He'd been waiting outside with her father just moments before.

In spite of not having answers for the mysterious Gohan, Videl was able to fall asleep. When she woke up and saw her husband in a pink apron, helping Dusty cook breakfast again in the kitchen, Videl wrote off Gohan's ability to see better in the dark as another one of his weird quirks.

Maybe it was a coincidence she had found him in her room…maybe he had planned on stealing one of her dresses or girly outfits last night. He was wearing a wedding dress when she met him, after all.

"He's not a psychic or something other than a human being. He's just weird," Videl told herself, trying her best not to become obsessed with her husband.

Her doubts resurfaced when an enormous breakfast was placed on the table, and Gohan had wolfed down enough food to feed three people.
