Chapter 19:
Previously in Stolen crane:
Tommy nods, "That would help but he only listens to a few people. Kim, Jason, maybe Billy but anything would help."
"I was only roughly 3 months old when I landed on earth, so I don't know that much about what they could do to help, but maybe my people could figure something out," Clark responds.
"So I'm guessing your parents literally found you didn't they?" asked Tommy.
"Yes, in a spacecraft in a field near their house, that is where I landed," Clark answered.
Tommy nods, "There have been times where he comes in handy, but it would be great to have more warning signs. I just don't want to do anything to damage or dampen my connection to the falcon and by extent the crane."
"You know what, when dinner is over this evening we both will talk to Zara. I have a device to contact them. I don't want to ruin your connection either." Clark suggests
"I just want to be able to give a signal that will help you if your friends, like Jason or Kim aren't around, you can have some warning and try to stop him, or try to find inner peace before it's too late," says Clark.
"Thank you, it's one of the odd things about having been a ranger, it tends to complicate things." Says Tommy.
On with the story:
Tommy says. "Man, in times like this I wish I could still talk to Zordon. " and sighs.
Clark looks surprised and asks, "Zordon of eltar?"
"Yes, do you know Zordon?" Tommy asks, shocked.
Clark says, "yes when I was on New-Krypton I heard legends of him. An outsider to our planet who helped us repel an invading force. He also warned that if we weren't careful we could destroy ourselves and that we have to have a backup plan. He was known to work closely with my father while he stayed on our planet. While I'm not sure how many of my people heeded his warning it was enough it seems. I might actually have him to thank for my parents sending me to earth."
Tommy looked shocked at Clark when hearing this.
"Wait a minute. There was a prophecy that Zordon told my father. I think I have to ask Zara about it." Clark tried to remember what it was Zara had said about it, "something about a bracelet blessed by the owl, to help the falcon balance the dragon within. We'll talk to her tonight "
Tommy nodded at this.
"I think someone is awake." Tommy smiled, feeling through his link that his precious crane was awake now.
"Do you mind if I make some breakfast for my belle of the ball?" Tommy asks Clark with a smug tone.
"How do you know she is awake? I mean I have my super hearing so I can hear it but I am shocked you can feel or hear it too." Clark asked, confused.
"Well, there's a special connection between the falcon and the crane. We are linked together, we can feel things from the other through our animals. Sometimes when we really focus we can show each other images, even thoughts." Tommy smiles at the thought about his crane, "If we are close enough, there are limits due to proximity. some things don't work if we are too far away, but that's for several miles at least." Tommy explains, "Dulcea told us those that hold the great power anything is possible. So there might be things that we can do that we haven't discovered yet."
"That's amazing, Tommy but to answer your question, sure you can use the kitchen. I have no problem with that." Clark said a bit shocked at what he heard.
Tommy smiles and says thanks. Yeah our friends are still surprised with what the falcon and crane can do together, but then again we were always meant to fly together." and smirks at Clark, "normally we flew in zords, so you're still one up on us." Tommy and Clark both chuckled at that last sentence.
Tommy starts to move around the kitchen and starts fixing breakfast, "should I make some for you and Lois as well?"
"That's not necessary, thank you. We usually take something at the coffee cart in front of the Daily Planet." Clark smiled, "To tell you the truth, I just eat to fit in. All I really need is sunlight."
"Yes, here on earth anyway. I can eat whatever I want. There was a time I only ate cookies and candy. On the planet New-Krypton, I need to eat though because there the sun is red and only the yellow sun makes me the way I am." Clark explained.
Tommy seems impressed, "So it's the sun that makes you so strong and fast?"
"Yeah, it is," answers Clark.
Tommy just slightly shakes his head, "man, our friend Billy would have a field day with you."
"Do I need to be afraid of this friend?" Clark remembered what his father used to say about humans dissecting him like frogs.
It was something Tommy couldn't know but Clark still feared what his father told him over the years. That was the biggest reason to keep everything a secret.
Tommy knew him better than he thought though, "no, Billy is harmless, you're not a frog, he is not going to dissect you if that's what you're afraid of."
"How did you know I was thinking that?" Clark asked shocked
"Lucky guess, and the look on your face after I said that. It's just, he is very science-minded. A genius that was also a great technical tinker, he invented or helped invent many of our weapons as rangers. But not to worry he is not even on the planet right now. Remember we were mentored by an alien and a robot. He is married to someone from Aquatar. He was fascinated by alpha, and I think in the same way he will be fascinated by you. He is coming to the wedding, but there is no way of knowing when he'll get here." Tommy sighed, he missed his friend terribly. It wasn't like he could travel to the other side of the universe and visit him.
Clark recognizes the name of the planet.
"Aquatar that sounds oddly familiar." Clark responded after a moment of silence, "as the one that Zara said was one they had an alliance with, technology exchanges for protection from outside forces."
"It isn't hard to imagine. They are very helpful. They helped us more than once. That's the reason why Billy is there in the first place. Due to an accident while running tests on a zord, he started rapidly aging, just growing older by the minute and there was nothing we could do here to stop it, So they saved his life by taking him with them for treatment." Tommy smiled at the thought of his alien friends from Aquatar, "they were able to restore his age as well."
Just then Kim comes into the room in a robe, and says, "good morning."
"Morning, beautiful. Did you sleep well after last night?" Tommy asked, a bit worried.
"yeah, I was so tired I passed right out." Kim kissed Tommy on the cheek.
"I thought me and Lois were close but this is amazing," Clark responded about the connection the two had, still in awe.
"Thanks, Clark." Kim smiled. She had a feeling that Tommy had talked about their connection.
"It is pretty special. We learned how to live with it." Tommy responded, "There was a time that we could talk to each other but that stopped when we retired. It might have been that our powers amplified it, but we haven't really tried. It would be cool if we could do that again."
"Did you try it since then?" Clark asked.
Kim looked at Tommy in confusion.
"Could it be that maybe we were too far apart for it to work?" Tommy asked curiously, "across the country is rather far after all."
"Why don't we try it?" Kim asked with hope in her voice.
"The falcon and the crane are supposed to fly together." Tommy answered, "So why not?"
Kim smiles and disappears around the corner, "Do you hear me, handsome?" Kim thought towards her falcon.
Tommy smiles and thinks back, "loud and clear, beautiful."
"Morphinominal! I'll be back, don't burn breakfast." Kim thinks back happily. She comes back into the room. She had a big smile on her face.
Clark smiled but his smile got even bigger when his beautiful fiance walked into the kitchen, "Good morning, honey."
Kim thinks to Tommy, "I guess we just have to be in the same state." before she winks at him.
"You are probably right, beautiful. Glad we know now." Tommy smiled.
"You two are up early." Lois smiled while wrapping her arms around Clark's waist and gave him a kiss on his neck.
"Let's say we had some male bonding time and well, I had to answer the door for Jason and Trini who brought over the rest of our guest's things," Clark said before kissing her on the lips.
Lois turned the news on, "We have to leave in an hour, honey."
The news was talking about the ball before jumping over to the earthquake in China.
"You have to go?" Kim asked looking at Clark.
"I am sorry ladies but duty calls." He spun around and appeared in his Superman suit. He flew off making everyone's hair move like they were walking in the wind.
Kim smiles, "do you ever get used to that?"
"I knew what I got myself into when I accepted his proposal. I am lucky if I have him one or two full nights next to me." Lois responded, "Superman is a part of him." Lois continues, "It's the part that makes it possible for him to stay in Metropolis. Two halves of one good man."
Kim nodded, "I know what you mean." She looks at Tommy lovingly, "I love all his parts. "It's a package deal. I even love his darker part." Kim continues with a smile and a wink towards her fiance.
"The monsters interrupted more dates than we can count." Kim sighs, thinking back at the time when they were just dating.
Tommy smirks, "Among other things." making Kim blush fiercely.
Tommy chuckles as he finishes cooking and plates some French toast then hands it to Kim.
"You want some too, Lois? I have enough for another person."
"If you are sure. That would be amazing. I usually take something at the food cart in front of the Daily Planet." Lois said not knowing Clark already told him that.
"Yeah, he mentioned that but I thought that I could check with you myself. Besides it seemed rude to not offer with you standing right here." he hands her a plate as well, "It's important to start the day off right."
"I can't be late though." Lois said, "I need to find an excuse for Clark because his excuses are lame and not so good." Lois chuckled.
Tommy and Kim nod.
Kim says, "Been there done that."
"It can be hard to think of things on the spot. We know." Tommy sighed, "which is why those used to doing it, can pick it up from others so easy." He winks at Lois as he turns off the stove and sits down with his own plate.
"Is that why you talk so easily with Clark. He usually doesn't open up so easy towards someone he barely knows." Lois asked
"Yeah, that and we have, surprisingly enough, a lot in common." Tommy responded, "We each are or were part-time superheroes, we each are in love with incredible women, and have something we struggle with but learn to live with."
Lois smiled, "You both have strong women behind you. Now it's time for me to go to work. There is a spare key in the cabinet standing in the hallway. Please be careful though. Clark has a good hearing but he can't hear you in China." Lois chuckled, "Just open the door for people you know others need to come back when we are home. Thanks for breakfast."
Tommy and Kim both say "thanks and you're welcome."
"Not to worry there are only 6 people we open the door for right now and they all served with us at some point," says Tommy.
Kim says, "It would be nice to have a day to relax and recharge since my public schedule is done. So we might not even leave the house today."
"Okay good to know," says Lois before she leaves for work.
