Here is another very short chapter. :)
At 9 a.m. the next morning Elena and I drove to the school for the car wash. The two of us found Caroline at the pay station and she began to explain the rules to Elena who sat down at the table.
"No friend discounts. No freebies. No pay ya laters. We are not running a charity here." Care' stressed.
"No, we are not." Elena agreed.
"Hi." Stefan's voice came from behind us.
"Son of a motherfucking bitch!" I swore. He had scared me shitless.
"Alexa!" Elena gasped and glared at me while Caroline snickered.
"Oh, stop. As if I were ever a 'lady'." I rolled my eyes and grabbed Caroline's hand, dragging her away.
"The event is called sexy suds, you know!" Care' called behind to Elena. I unbuttoned my dark green flannel and tied it around my waist, revealing my sunflower bikini.
"Very cute. I approve." Caroline nodded and I shot her a look.
"I wasn't aware that I needed your approval." I joked.
"You do. I really wasn't a fan of that orange top you wore last week. It totally washed you out. If you're going to wear orange it should be pumpkin-colored." She said as we approached a dark gray Subaru Outback.
"Duly noted." I laughed and we began to wash the car.
Have I mentioned how much I love Caroline's honesty? Most people when/where I'm from don't know how to be which is strange because it isn't very hard. After washing two more cars, I decided to quietly leave. I sped over to the Salvatore house and quietly entered before sneaking down to the cellar.
"Alexa?" Damon's raspy voice called out.
"Yeah, I'm here." I whispered before locating the cooler around the corner. Thankfully, Stefan hadn't found the stash of blood bags I had told Damon to steal and I grabbed a couple. I walked over to the door and had started to open it when Zach appeared out of nowhere, pulling me away.
"No! No! Get out of here. Run! Run!" He cried. Unfortunately, it was too late. Damon had pulled the door open and pushed Zach down before snapping his neck. A chill ran down my spine at the loud crack! I stayed petrified against the wall, still cradling the blood bags in my arms as Damon suddenly appeared in front of me. He glanced at my exposed neck, hesitating for a moment, before quickly snatching a blood bag from my hand and draining it in seconds before grabbing the second. Once he had finished gulping down the blood, he sighed and threw the crumpled bags to the floor.
"Better?" I asked.
"Better." He murmured.
"Good. You're not you when you're hungry." I said flatly. He stared at me and for a moment he looked murderous.
"Do you think this is funny?" Damon asked quietly.
"The predicament you were in? No. My wit and comedic timing? Definitely." I gave him a winning smile. He shook his head.
"I should make you a vampire, just so that you can't procreate and make a bunch of little Alexas." Damon pondered as he began to walk away.
"Eh mah gawd! Really? A vampire? Me?" I gasped dramatically.
"You're not helping your case." He grumbled and stalked toward the living (ha!) room.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm charming and adorable." I said, plopping down on the couch.
"How about a pain in my ass that I'm stuck with out of necessity?" Damon snapped and I immediately stood up.
"I'm going home." I stormed over to the front door. "Oh, and next time you find yourself desiccating in a cell, don't count on me coming to the rescue!" I yelled before slamming the door behind me. "You're welcome, jackass." I said as I walked to my car, knowing fully well that he could still hear me.
I drove home and stomped up the stairs before locking my door and screaming into a pillow. I knew that Damon was a dick, but I thought we had been making progress! Stupid, I know. I guess that's what I get for trying to see the good in people. With the sun still up in the sky, I opted to go for a walk in nature with my good ol' friend, jazz cabbage. Jazz cabbage - JC if you will - was one of the only things I could rely on at the moment. JC was never mean or made me sad, JC was a real one. My stroll through the forest was nice. It was still hot and the sky was that perfect, cloudless, cornflower blue. Once the sun began to sink in the sky, I knew that I should head back. Pissbaby Damon didn't have his daylight ring and was bound to be extra bitey this evening. I made sure to lock my windows.
Elena sulked into my room not long after.
"Boys are the worst." She moaned before falling face-first onto my bed.
"Tell me about it." I sighed. Elena turned over staring at my ceiling fan, following the blades in circles. Scooching over, I began to play with her hair. It was extremely soft (because of course it was).
"I don't think I can. You wouldn't believe me anyway." She mumbled.
"Try me." I said. Elena sat up and turned to look at me and chewed her lip for a minute.
"Have you... noticed anything weird about Stefan and Damon?" She finally asked.
"What do you mean? If you're talking about their weird love triangle with-" I began.
"No. No, not that. You haven't noticed that they are different than most people that we know?" Elena asked in a shaky voice.
I faltered, at a loss for words. My answer would determine our relationship.
I could lie and she would back-peddle and not tell me anything, I could continue my mind games and have my fun... or I could agree, that yes, the Salvatore brothers were not normal, that they do seem different and that they're hiding something. Elena would confide in me and I would have to tell her the little things I had "noticed".
Decisions, decisions.
Okay! Here's another short chapter before things get interesting. Verrry interesting. Alexa's going to make an interesting decision next chapter.
