All was peaceful as Aviva brushed her hair before the bathroom mirror. It was one of those days; no creature adventures, no new inventions to work on, no villains to stop, just peace and quiet. The rest of the team were also taking advantage of this peaceful morning; Martin and Chris were outside birdwatching, Koki was hard at work making updates to the Tortuga's main panel and Jimmy was..well, sleeping in. Or playing video games. Or eating breakfast. Whichever of these came first.

The inventor had nearly finished when she noticed a small, reptilian head crawling its way on top of the counter before warbling a squeak in greeting. A small smile formed upon knowing who it was.

"Oh. Hi Amber."cooed Aviva, stroking the little head, rubbing behind her earholes, to which the young theropod purred in bliss.

A few days had passed since her adoption into the Wild Kratts team, and not only was Amber a few pounds bigger, but she was also strong on her feet and loaded with boundless energy as young animals are. It was extremely rare for the little raptor to stay in on place for very long. She also possessed a natural sense of curiosity, which was quite evident as she rummaged through the items on the bathroom counter, toying with the hairdryer, unwittingly knocking over a blue toothbrush and a certain spiky haired Kratt's bottle of hair gel with her tail in the process, causing the latter to fall on the floor and the former in the toilet, before chewing on a hair comb. It wasn't long before she spied a strange creature on the crystal clear wall, and it seemed to be copying her actions. Facing the mirror, Amber gave a small hiss, only to have the creature hissing back, causing her to jump back in surprise and hide beside Aviva, who giggled a little.

Before long, she summoned up enough courage to face the creature on the wall. The young raptor stared curiously at her own reflection, tapping her snout upon the glass until realizing that the creature was copying her exact movements and postures.

She blinked. The other raptor did the same. She tilted her head. It did likewise. She wagged her tail. Same result.

This process was repeated until Amber began to compare her own features to those of the stranger. They looked exactly the same. The same hands, the same feet. Even the tail.

"Guys! Come look at this!"called the inventor, her voice echoing across the Tortuga, eyes never leaving the inquisitive reptile. It wasn't long before the door flew wide open, revealing a wide eyed Martin with a bucket of water followed by rest of the team.

"Alright, where's the fire?"shouted the Kratt in blue.

"You okay, Aviva?"asked Chris worriedly, thinking that something was wrong.

"What's going on?"demanded Koki.

The inventor simply pointed to the baby dinosaur.

"What? All I'm seeing is a baby Velociraptor starring at a mirror."said Jimmy, tilting his head in confusion. Koki's hand came to her mouth in an attempt to muffle the laughter erupting from her lips, seeing the exchange between Amber and her reflection. The two creature adventurers, however, stared wide eyed at the scene in awe and wonder.

"Wow..."said both brothers simultaneously.

"Creature self awareness!"whispered Chris in an awed voice. "Individuals of most species can't recognize themselves in a mirror."

"The only known exceptions are humans, great apes, dolphins, elephants, and magpies—all animals with high intelligence."added Martin, eyes glued to Amber as she stared at her reflection in fascination, cocking her head once in a while.

"Wow. I never woulda guessed."mumbled Koki half to herself, no less amazed than everyone else.

"Then I guess raptors would've fallen under that category too."said the inventor.

"Well Muldoon did say they were extremely intelligent."added the Kratt in blue, recalling the day the team first met the carnivorous dinosaurs, and seeing them in action.

"Not to mention they're quick learners."remarked Chris.

"Hold on. Wait a sec. How do we know she knows it's her own reflection and not some other raptor?"asked Jimmy rather skeptically.

"Only one way to be certain."said the Tortuga technician in answer, opening a drawer. With a bar of lipstick, Koki gently tapped Amber on her forehead, leaving a small, red mark. "See, if she touches the mark or shows any interest whatsoever, it'll at least indicate that she perceives the reflected image as herself, rather than of another animal."

The young theropod tilted her head in confusion before looking at her reflection once more, and it wasn't long before she saw the mark left by the technician. After a moment's hesitation, she promptly wiped it off using her small, dexterous hands before looking back at her reflection, noticing the mark had disappeared.

"She saw it!"said Aviva excitedly.

"She passed the mark test!"cheered the bros in unison.

"Yup. I believe it. Raptors are incredibly smart."remarked the pizza-eating pilot.

After another half minute, realization slowly dawned on Amber as she slowly reached out to touch the creature with her clawed hand. This was her. This was what she was.

After removing her hand from the mirror's smooth surface, the young raptor then looked down at her little clawed hands and feet in fascination, marveling at the dark stripes riding along her elongated tail and admiring the needle-sharp talons on her toes. Glancing back to the mirror, she then noticed that the her reflection was joined by those of the rest of the team. Her pack. Aviva's arms then wrapped around the little dinosaur, cradling her before looking back to the mirror, allowing her to nibble on her fingers.

"That's right, sweetheart. You are a Velociraptor."

"Hey. Who dropped my hair gel?"

"My favorite toothbrush!"
