The sound of the explosion made every remaining Mobian in the cart scream. Light flashed across Bunnie's eyes as she glimpsed the cart down the line burst into flames. She caught herself against the wall, clasping both hands over her mouth.

"What was that?" a man screamed. "What was that?"

The Mobians began to shout, the line began to surge forwards. Someone began shouting that they were blowing up the carts.

Bunnie crouched there in shock, her green eyes stricken.

The next Mobians in line began to scramble forward and push down through the hole.

The line collapsed—they kept coming, pushing.

Bunnie snapped out of it. She slammed her foot against the metal floor. "Hold it! Stop it, ya'll!" She screamed.

But it was no good. The crowd pushed forward, clogging the hole, Mobians stumbling down to the ground below. Bunnie fell back.

She wormed through the hole hit the ground with the back of her head. She rolled across the grass beneath the cart and looked up to see Mobians streaming for the forest.

A second crack of lighting spat through the night, exploding into the ground far behind them. Firelight reflected in Bunnie's eyes as she stared.

Bunnie caught her breath. She glanced down the line at a thick cloister of combots gathered around where the line used to be. They were shooting. She could hear people screaming—not from her cart—near the cart that had blown up.

Whatever Sonic had been doing, it hadn't worked.

One of the combots turned around.

Bunnie watched his "gaze" lock on the Mobians scrambling from the cart.

"Oh, have mercy," Bunnie hissed.

She sprang free from beneath the cart, adrenaline giving new life to her weary body—her blaster hand switched from acid to bullet and she felt the slugs latching into place, as if they were a part of her bloodstream. She raised her fist at the very same time he raised his.

The blasts rang out. The combot's sensory panel shattered. Bunnie did not fall.

But the other combots turned as well, staring at the rabbit and the Mobians racing from the cart. They all raised their arms, marching forward.

Bunnie dropped to the ground with a scream, blasts whizzing over her head. She rolled back towards the cart and shelter and stopped next to the wheel. The wheel she had accidently dripped acid onto.

Bunnie took one look down the line of carts behind their cart.

With a swift kick, she rammed both her metal limbs into the wheel. It had already been creaking and bending ever since she had started getting people out, and this was the last straw.

The wheel cracked off. The whole cart sagged onto its corner and thudded into the dirt. Just in time for the combots to reach her.

Mobians streamed past Rotor, towards freedom. He breathed hard, slowing as he reached the tree line, looking for Bunnie and their cart.

There had been two more explosions—two more carts mindlessly destroyed. He felt sick, but he was not surprised.

Rotor could glimpse the combots approaching the cart through the trees—he could just make out Bunnie standing between them and the panicking Mobians behind her, the ones charging towards him and the forest.

He didn't move.

A combot began to glance into the forest. Towards him.

Rotor still didn't move. He stared at the combot, his eyes as round as saucers. The combot raised his blaster hand and pointed it towards Rotor's heart.

Rotor raised his hands over his head. He waited for the blaster slug to burn into his chest.

The combot marched forward, closer, its blaster still fixed on Rotor. It paused a foot away from him.

"Move," it ordered.

Rotor took a deep breath, his ice-blue eyes dimming. He bowed his head, turned and began to stride back to the cart.

He saw Bunnie lying in the dirt next to the broken wheel. A combot snatched her up by her robotic arm and twisted.

Rotor caught his breath. The combot behind him kicked him forward and knocked him onto his face.

Author's Note:

Thanks for reading and for the reviews, guys! *salutes* So, yeah, we're kind of in a morbid slump here. I would say things are going to turn around soon, but I could be lying. Or giving spoilers. So I will have to just leave it at that. As always, let me know if you have a favorite character thus far or if you have any questions, comments, etc.

God bless!

P.S. Btw, I got a Deviantart account (I'm AJRhys) and it is now full of artwork from this saga. But the artwork crosses all timelines, so just beware, there could be major spoilers. If you're on Deviant, let me know and I'll try to find you and check out your work!
