Bunnie opened her eyes, groaning. "Oh…bless mah stars…"
She sat up, thankful for her metal rear. Her real bones were stiff.
Rotor lay against the wall, his arms still crossed. He stared at her from beneath heavy eyelids.
"Mornin', Rotor…" Bunnie murmured, wiping at her face. She shivered a little. "Boy, is it cold in here…"
Rotor sighed. He closed his eyes again.
The cell was about the size of a small kitchen, with one entire wall as a massive, clear sliding door. Fluorescent lights lined the door from the outside, lighting the cell through the glass.
Bunnie began drinking from the water feeder again. She paused, looking at her reflection in the puddle beneath the feeder. "What a sight for sore eyes…." She began trying to untangle some of her blonde curls.
Rotor shifted. He shivered too. "…Good morning-"
"So…last nahght, you said somethin' about rememberin'?" Bunnie raised an eyebrow at herself in the puddle. "Ah wasn't about to ask with the combots around…"
Rotor bowed his head.
Bunnie waited.
Finally, he sighed. "F-forget I mentioned it."
"No, honey," Bunnie sauced, turning to face him. She placed her good hand on her hip and waved a finger at him. "We've got nothin' else to do in this box an' who knows what's gonna happen to us—the least you can do is talk to me."
Rotor pinched his lips.
"Is this a bad time?" Bunnie raised her eyebrows pointedly. She winked.
"This is a medium-security prison…C-cameras in the hall outside…b-but not here," Rotor murmured, dipping his head again. "No…" He shrugged.
Bunnie narrowed her eyes at him. "Hmm…guess the combots saw my metal half and your past record and decided to make us special prisoners."
Rotor's shoulders slumped.
"You better tell me, Rotor."
"It's—It's no use n-now," he closed his eyes, coughing.
"Ah'll decide that for mahself once Ah hear it." Bunnie twisted her lips into a daring pout and examined her fingernails.
Rotor struggled, as if uncertain of how to speak. As if the words hurt.
Bunnie paused. For a moment, she regretted pressuring him.
She stood up. Bunnie strode across the room and eased down next to him, her hinges hissing. She put her hand on his. "Ah'm sorry, Rotor…Ah wouldn't make you if Ah didn't think it mahght be important, Ah promise…you may be the last person who knows a clue about where Knuckles is…"
He shivered, and bowed his head.
Bunnie pinched her lips, waiting.
"M-me…me and my unit…," Rotor did not lift his gaze. "We were on rotation at the Spectank lab...We…we just…cleaned things and stuff…one of the better jobs…then one m-morning, when we were on ground duty…they brought in a pr-prisoner."
