At the lake, Drew had explained to them the plan; they would split into two groups. He, Jack, Adrian and Alice would take the containment trucks and go on a reconnaissance, to look for animals away from the watering hole. Everyone else would stay and round up the animals they brought back.

Jack and Alice would take one of the containment trucks and head west, whilst Adrian and Keehar would head south to the further end of the lake, whilst Drew would head to the northern part. Cynthia and Leon would remain at the watering hole with the others. They would all meet up at sunset. The rest of the team had expressed worry about Drew going it alone; Drew, however, had insisted, telling them that he would simply contact them if he needed help. And so, the teams left, ready to search for the last of the dinosaurs.

And so, Jack and Alice were driving through a sparse-looking scrubland, looking for dinosaurs. So far, they hadn't seen anything. Jack looked at Alice and said, "This could take some time; at least we've got till sunset…" Suddenly, a small, bipedal dinosaur ran out in front of the truck.

It was about six feet long and looked like a miniature version of the large Utahraptor back at the park. Its body was covered with black-and-white feathers, with its head was covered in mostly white feathers, with black feathers on the top of the head and around the eyes, giving it a masked look. Its arms were short, muscular and covered in black-and-white feathers, grading to red on the tips, rendering its fingers barely visible. However, what she could see was three grasping fingers, each ending in curved, vicious-looking talons; perfect for seizing prey. Its three-toed feet were bare of feathers and were viciously taloned; the second toe was longer than the others and held aloft, tipped with an incredibly large, sickle-shaped claw. Its long tail, held out stiffly to counterbalance the body, was ringed with red plumes. It cocked its head to look at them.

Jack and Alice both looked at each other; they knew what this was. From the info-packs, this was Dromaeosaurus, a theropod that was reasonably common in the area.

Suddenly, the Dromaeosaurus took a step forward and hissed at them, revealing a mouth full of backwards-curving teeth, before throwing back its head and letting out a series of long, low staccato barks. As Jack and Alice looked, the indistinct shapes of other dromaeosaurs joined it. All of them looked eerily thin; they must have been starving. The one in front of them jumped on the hood and snarled at Jack and Alice through the windscreen. The rest of the pack began attacking the top, the back and the sides of the containment truck, attempting to claw and tear at what to them, was a strange, new animal.

Jack turned to Alice and said, "Drive! See if we can lose them!" Alice nodded, and the engine revved. The dromaeosaurs, in surprise, jumped off the truck and looked, curiously, at it. The truck began to move away and the dromaeosaurs, crazed by hunger, followed the truck, easily able to keep pace with it. Suddenly, they turned a corner and ended up facing a large hill. Jack looked at his sister nervously, "What do we do?" Alice shrugged, "We can't drive over the hill and I can't tranquilise them all by myself…"

Jack looked at her curiously, "What do you mean "all by yourself"? I'm here." Alice looked at him and said, "Exactly." Jack's eyes widened, "Ah. Wait, I have an idea." Jack undid his seatbelt, walked up to the back, grabbed one of the bait bags, opened the grille to the back of the truck, put on his gloves and threw some meat in. Jack closed the grille and yelled to Alice, "Open the door!" Alice nodded, and pressed the button to open the door to the containment truck. Jack ran back to his seat as they heard the Dromaeosaurus tear into the truck after the meat.

After the adrenaline of the moment, Jack turned to his sister and said, "So, shall we head back to camp?" Alice sighed, "Yup", and they turned the van round to head back to camp, the dromaeosaurs indignantly hissing in the back. Boy, would they have a story to tell…

Meanwhile, Adrian's containment truck, with Keehar in the passenger seat, pulled up to the far side of the lake to see the Nyctosaurus feasting on an Edmontosaurus carcass, possibly killed by the local tyrannosaur. The nyctosaurs were fully focused on the carcass, whilst Adrian pondered how he could get them into camp; he couldn't use bait, because of the carcass. Perhaps he could…

Suddenly, the nyctosaurs looked up as two large pterosaurs landed to feed on the hadrosaur carcass. With wingspans of up to twenty feet, they were much larger than the Nyctosaurus. Their bodies were covered in black fur on the back, legs and the tips of the wings and white on the sides and the belly. The head was large, with a straight, stork-like, toothless beak and a small crest. According to the info-packs, they were Quetzalcoatlus, one of the larger pterosaurs. The Nyctosaurus hissed indignantly at these larger arrivals; they were not willing to give up their prize all that easily.

Adrian realised they were distracted. Indicating for Keehar to stay in the truck, he opened the door, walked to the back of the truck, pulled out the winch, snuck up to the Edmontosaurus carcass and hooked the winch through its eye sockets. Running back to the truck, he started the engine and began driving away, the carcass being dragged along with him. The pterosaurs' squabbling was suddenly interrupted and, their enmities forgotten, they began pursuing the carcass. Adrian drove back to camp with them in pursuit.

Miles away, Drew was looking through the forests for signs of T-rex. So far, he'd found nothing; not even the giant one they'd seen the previous day. However, he kept looking, as he was sure his luck was sure to change… Suddenly, he looked down to see a gigantic, three-toed footprint; bigger than any recorded Tyrannosaurus footprint. It must have been the giant they had seen earlier that day. He was about to ring in the rest of the team, so they could track the giant… then he looked up to see the sun descending in the sky. Damn it.

Meanwhile, back at camp, Cynthia and Leon, along with the rest of the team, were sitting and waiting for the other team members to get back. Cynthia walked up to Leon, who was nervously looking at the communicators, "Any word from anyone yet?" Leon shook his head, "No. Suddenly, they heard a low crocodilian hiss, and turned towards the lake to see the Deinosuchus from earlier emerging out of the lake. Cynthia and Leon looked at each other, dumbstruck, before Leon yelled, "Keep him distracted! I have an idea."

Leon ran up to the only remaining containment truck and opened the door, before throwing some meat in it. The Deinosuchus smelt the meat and turned to look at them. Cynthia, still staring down the crocodile, started to walk backwards, towards the open truck. The Deinosuchus slowly walked towards her, coming closer and closer. When she felt the crocodile had gotten close enough, Cynthia dived out of the way, and the Deinosuchus charged towards the open truck and began feasting on the meat inside. Leon then closed the door to the containment truck, safely containing the giant crocodile. After a few minutes, Leon said "Well, that was exhilarating. I wonder what happened to the rest of the team?"

Suddenly, Jack and Alice's containment truck rolled into camp. Jack jumped out of the passenger seat and said, "Don't look in the back; we had a run-in with a bunch of angry dromaeosaurs. How were things back here?" Leon chuckled, "Oh, we had a run-in with a giant crocodile; so basically, same old, same old." Jack looked around and said, "Where's Adrian?"

Suddenly, they heard a containment truck rev into the camp. "Coming through!", Adrian screamed, as the containment truck tore into the camp, dragging a hadrosaur carcass behind it and being pursued by a flock of pterosaurs. As Adrian pulled in, the carcass detached itself from the winch and flew into one of the containment pens, where the pterosaurs, united now, eagerly began tearing it apart. Once the van had come to a stop, Adrian got out, followed by Keehar. Jack, Alice, Cynthia and Leon all looked at him agape. Adrian shrugged, sighed and said, "Things happen."

After about half an hour, where all the new animals were contained, Drew's containment truck came rolling in. The rest of the team braced themselves when the truck stopped and Drew got out. Jack asked, "Find anything?" Drew said, "Nothing, aside from the tracks of that big T-rex we saw." After everyone had filled him in on the day's events, Drew nodded and said, "Dawn tomorrow, we start tracking the bigger stuff; I'm stating the obvious here, but we're running out of time."

That night, everyone was sitting around the campfire, sharing stories about the day. The atmosphere around the camp was uneasy; despite the jokes, everybody knew the threat that was coming. And the past day had made one fact clear; they were running out of time. Over several hours, the rest of the team retired to their sleeping bags, leaving only Drew and Cynthia to stay by the fire. Drew looked at the sky and remarked, "Amazing, isn't it?" Cynthia arched her eyebrow and said, "In what way?" In response Drew looked her in the eye and said, "The day after tomorrow, it's the end of the world."
