I've gone back twice now to search for grammatical and spelling errors, and I found a TON. I learned a lot from my mitsakes. :)

Th3DoomSlay3r You know I'm going to make the big goodbye as sad and sappy as I possibly can, haha! And what is to come of Sol? Who knows...

Salvation of Light You better believe it is! And unlike Erin Hunter's bland "catastrophes" that are supposed to be the greatest threat the Clans have ever faced but then turn out to have very few consequences, this calamity will have real repercussions.

Darth Jay Despite the wait? The wait was so small compared to other updates for me. I had so many good reviews to the chapter before it that I was compelled to double my writing speed.

Seaman109 "It's good to be back. I took my sense of sight way too far. I'm sorry!" This is a line to one of my all-time favorite Jayfeather videos on youtube called What if JAYFEATHER Could SEE? I highly recommend every Warrior's fan on the planet watch it- it's really funny!

MistLion Even though I love Jay and Crash and writing about the mountains, I have so much other stuff planned that I'm itching to introduce. Thanks for the sweet review!

P D Val de Fleur You can take whatever moral you want from this story, my only agenda is to make something fun and interesting to read. And I don't hate Star Wars, only the new rubbish stuff with Rey. The Clone Wars were fantastic! (also congratulations on being the 250th review)

Arcantos the Storyteller I appreciate the constructive criticism. The reason a lot of scenes are abrupt or short is because that is my style of writing. I like to get the main points across and then let the reader assume what else happens because otherwise I'm filling a chapter with pointless fluff that doesn't move the story along and/or it is information readers already know from previous books. But I can definitely see your point that some endings might seem too hastened.

Briarlight clutched feebly to the earth in terror as the mountains shook all around her. It felt like the ground beneath her paws was going to throw her high into the sky and splatter her against the rocks, or even worse, collapse and suck her down into the crushing depths. She could see Jayfeather, Crash, and Jay all flattened against the stone just like her, their pelts spiked with fear.

She wanted to close her eyes and cover her ears against the roaring but there was a particularly loud crash above her in the distance and she looked up. A huge pile of boulders was tumbling down the mountainside towards her and her companions. Most of the thundering rocks were larger than an adult cat and moving as fast as twoleg monsters. "Look out!"

She couldn't be sure that her friends had heard her warning so she tried to reach them. It wasn't easy since with each step the quaking ground threatened to knock her off her paws, but she knew they would all be dead if that wave of stones hit them. She managed to crawl over and get Jay and Crash's attention. She pointed up the hill towards the oncoming calamity and their eyes grew wide when they saw it. "We have to find shelter!" she screamed at them. She looked around and spotted a nook in the rocks and pointed with her tail.

Jay and Crash didn't need to be told twice and clambered towards it. Jayfeather however was clearly unaware of what was going on so Briarlight grabbed him by the scruff and tried to tug him in the direction of safety. Her muscles screeched with pain as she tried to pull the larger cat out of the way, but he quickly realized her intentions and allowed her guide him in the direction of the small den.

The tumbling slide of rocks was upon them but she and Jayfeather managed to squeeze into the tiny gap in the stones just in time. The boulders rolled over their shelter with the sound of a hundred rumbles of thunder going off all at once. Her ears were filled with the roar and her teeth clattered painfully together as her chin ricocheted off the hard stone. For a horrifying moment she was afraid their tiny space would give way to the crushing stones, but it held fast. She squinted her eyes and waited for it all to end.

The quaking earth slowly subsided into stillness and Briarlight tentatively raised her head. Thick dust filled the air and stung her eyes and nose. She was unharmed but she couldn't see the others through the dust. "Is everyone okay?" Her voice was trapped between the walls of their cave.

Coughing met her words as the dust settled and she was able to see her companions once more. Their shelter was dark and Briarlight realized a pile of rocks was blocking the entrance. Were they trapped?

"I'm okay," whispered Crash, sneezing violently as dust flew up his nose.

"Same here," came Jay's scared voice.

"Your fast thinking saved us, Briarlight," Jayfeather murmured, his paws shuffling as he turned to face her. "I don't know what just happened but I have a bad feeling that many cats weren't as fortunate as us. We need to get out of here."

Briarlight grunted in agreement and tried to push through the stones that were between her and freedom. But her muscles still burned from her frantic scramble across the mountain and she couldn't muster the strength.

"Let me try," Jayfeather grunted, stepping past her. He pressed against the boulders and with a growl of effort, managed to shove some of them aside. There was a rumble of rocks and a gap appeared. A tiny light poked through the hole and he clawed his way through it. More rocks tumbled out of the way as he burrowed upwards like a mole.

Briarlight crawled through the space he had made and Jay and Crash quickly followed behind her. The four of them stepped out into the open.

The terrain that greeted her was almost unrecognizable. None of the landmarks were in the same positions and some were gone altogether. The large boulders she had navigated earlier that morning had been smashed to rubble and many of the shrubs had been ripped out of the ground. The setting sun cast ominous shadows across the once familiar landscape.

"This is not good," Jayfeather murmured, his neck fur spiking up in disbelief. His tone was deathly serious and his blank eyes were wide. He seemed incapable of making sense of his surroundings. Instead, he just stood rooted in place as if he was made of stone himself.

Briarlight took another glance around at the ruined mess of stone, sand, and dirt. "It was only one little mountain-shake. That doesn't seem all that bad. We were fine after all."

Jayfeather shook his head, his whiskers still trembling. "I don't know how many cats were able to escape the danger, but there is no way everyone else was as fortunate as we were. Most of the others were still close by before the calamity struck so we should search for survivors."

Briarlight stared into his deep blue eyes. They had always been like calm pools of water to relax her whenever she was worried or upset, but now they twinkled with horror and offered little comfort. She shook her head, tearing her gaze away from his, and instead addressed the two young toms. "Crash and Jay, listen up. Cats from the border gathering should still be nearby so spread out and call to us if you find any injured."

The fear in the former kittypets' faces seemed to vanish as soon as she gave them instructions. They stood up straight and their faces sharpened with seriousness before racing off in opposite directions.

Briarlight turned back to Jayfeather who had his head bowed and eyes closed. For a moment, it looked like he was about to crack beneath his distress but then he took a couple deep breaths and raised his eyes to meet hers. Some of the comforting confidence seemed to return to his features.

"There are some cats over there," he meowed calmly, pointing with his tail through the dust that was still landing gently around them. Briarlight looked around and spotted a mound of boulders silhouetted against the darkness. She couldn't see any cats but she trusted Jayfeather's instincts. They padded cautiously and nimbly across the shattered mountainside towards the mound. Briarlight worried that at any moment the earth could shake again and send another wave of unstoppable boulders down upon them, but the ground stayed quiet and it wasn't long before they them made it over.

"Briarlight? Oh, and Jayfeather. So you both survived."

Jayfeather had been correct. A small group of cats were huddled beneath the massive boulders, their pelts barely recognizable beneath dust and debris, but Briarlight recognized the voice of Nettle. "Are you hurt?" she asked worriedly when she realized Nettle's pelt was spattered with more blood than a cat could survive losing.

The small group of Pack cats all stared at Briarlight with mournful eyes but none of the others seemed capable of speaking.

Nettle shook her head. "It's not my blood." She nodded towards a couple of still bodies Briarlight hadn't noticed hidden in the shadows of a larger stone.

Jayfeather immediately sprang into action, racing past Briarlight to examine the fallen cats. His paws quickly stroked the fur of each of them in search of a a pulse. "It's Flora and Petal," he whispered to himself as he identified them. He pressed his ear to their chests. "Petal is gone but Flora is still with us. She needs treatment for fractured ribs, a broken leg and possibly internal bleeding."

Nettle seemed to perk up slightly. "She's alive?"

"Maybe not for long if I can't find some healing herbs."

The total darkness of night was rapidly approaching and Briarlight realized the injured would need to get back to their cave before the frosty chill descended upon them. Briarlight turned to the other Pack cats who watched with hopeful eyes. "If you are able to walk, go and search for survivors," she ordered them. "Jayfeather and I will take care of Flora. Get as many injured cats back to the cave as you can."

Nettle didn't need to be told twice and slinked away, but the other Pack hunters cave her an incredulous look for giving them a command. After a moment's hesitation they nodded in understanding and padded after Nettle. Briarlight was left alone with Jayfeather and the injured Pack leader as the others left to find help.

"I- I need, um-" Jayfeather began, his paws trembling as they hovered over Flora's still form.

"A remedy of broom, thyme, and possibly chamomile?" Briarlight finished the sentence for him. He was clearly rattled and his eyes were wide as they flickered in her direction.

"Yes, that sounds fine," he meowed, taking a another deep breath. "And perhaps also some lamb's ear and ragwort. They are mountain herbs so I never told you about them while we were in ThunderClan."

Briarlight's eyes flickered to Flora and Petal and then back at Jayfeather. "I'll stay here and watch over them but you should go find the herbs you need. You'll be able to recognize them faster than I can. Go quickly, the night is coming."

Jayfeather gave her a worried look but grunted in understanding before racing away among the rocks. "Be safe. I'll be back soon."

Alone, Briarlight glanced at the bodies that lay nearby. The young queen, Petal, was sprawled in a crumpled pile with a gruesome wound on her chest that looked like she had been struck by a large boulder. As awful as the wound was, it was Petal's face that shook Briarlight more than anything else. The she-cat's eyes were still round with terror but they were hollow and empty as they seemed to gaze blankly at the sky. Blood formed a foul pond around her which made Briarlight's stomach heave so she averted her gaze. After all she's been through, she didn't deserve to go like this.

Briarlight focused her attention on Flora who lay on the stone with her eyes squeezed tight as she endured the pain of her injuries. She was shivering slightly even though the air wasn't yet cold and Briarlight suddenly realized that she was in shock. The Pack leader was strong but she was losing heat quickly. Briarlight stepped forward and pressed her body against Flora's quivering pelt to offer some warmth. She nudged her muzzle into Flora's ruffled pelt and felt for the injuries Jayfeather had mentioned but she couldn't figure out which of Flora's legs was broken. One of Flora's forelimbs was dislocated and was expelling a tremendous amount of heat. Had Jayfeather made a mistake in his diagnosis?

I know how to fix this. Briarlight gingerly took hold of the limb close to the shoulder and turned it so it was aligned with the rest of Flora's body. With a forceful push, she used her other paw to give herself leverage and pressed the limb back into place with a pop.

Flora jerked suddenly and her eyes flew open. Her green gaze quickly found Briarlight and a look of confusion lit her face. "What happened? What happened to-" she broke off with a pained hiss as she tried to stand up.

Briarlight rested a paw on her side and gently encouraged her to lie still. "After the ground started shaking, a pile of rocks must have been loosened higher up the mountain. Jayfeather, Crash, Jay, and I barely got out of the way in time, but I'm afraid Petal..." She looked over her shoulder at the matted mess of blood.

Grief filled Flora's eyes and she shut them tight. "Just when everything was starting to look up for us. It feels like the ancestors, if they really exist, are punishing us for joining forces with the Tribe. Perhaps the Pack ancestors are mad at us."

Briarlight didn't think that was how the ancestors would act but she kept her mouth shut. Sometimes horrible things just happened but she had faith that things would get better even if their situation was grim now. It was her faith that things would get better that kept her from breaking down in panic. She looked up towards the darkening sky at the dusty red clouds. Half of the sun had disappeared behind the horizon.

The two she-cats waited in silence as the heartbeats pounded on. Briarlight became painfully aware that she must have torn one of her claws while she was escaping the rock-slide because blood oozed between her pads. It hurt but she was too worried about other things to pay it much attention. Jayfeather had said they were lucky to have survived the rockslide. How many cats had been crushed beneath the falling stones like Petal? Was the queen's kit, Slate, still alive? Did the Tribe also lose cats to the thundering mountain?

It almost felt like moons before soft hurried pawsteps met Briarlight's ears. Jayfeather had returned. The tabby tom's stripes blended in with the dark stones so it took her a moment to distinguish him from the landscape.

"I'm sorry I took so long," Jayfeather panted, his voice muffled slightly by the herbs he carried in his mouth. "The land feels completely different now and I could only find a couple of the herbs I was looking for." He dropped his small pile of leaves on the ground beside Flora. "I have some really bad news- oh you are awake."

"I am," Flora meowed coldly. "What is the bad news? Apart from the fact that most of the mountain has collapsed and many cats were killed."

Jayfeather began slicing up some of the plants into pieces but his eyes stayed focused on the Pack leader. "Actually, that is pretty much the bad news. This disaster really has affected everyone and everything. I'm worried that the extent of the damage goes even beyond the mountains- even the Clans would have been hit."

A pang of guilt budded in Briarlight's heart. Were her Clanmates in danger? Did she have to go back to the lake? She had plenty of friends and family in ThunderClan and they might need her help.

Jayfeather finished his concoction of herbs and slid it towards Flora who accepted them without hesitation. "This has to be the horrible thing Sol had warned me about. Maybe that's why he left the mountains- to save himself." He turned to Briarlight. "I know you are worried but our Clanmates will be fine without us. They have faced terrible things in the past and have always pushed through it."

Her fur began to rise at the thought of Jayfeather getting into her head, but then she realized he was just trying to comfort her in the best way he knew how. If we are going to be mates, there will have to be some rules; like no invading my thoughts without permission. She raised her chin. "Flora's leg wasn't broken, by the way, it was dislocated and I put it back while you were finding herbs."

"Oh? Well done, Briarlight."

If the situation hadn't been so dire, she might have found pleasure in his praise, but there was still a lot that needed to be done and she barely dwelled on it. "Did you find any other injured cats while you were searching for herbs?" she asked tentatively, dreading the answer.

Jayfeather nudged Flora to her paws. "Yes, but there are plenty of Tribe and Pack cats scouring the area looking for survivors and bringing them back to their caves. That is exactly what I'm going to do with Flora. It is going to get very cold soon and she needs to return to the Pack's cave."

The Pack leader grit her teeth and a seething hiss escaped her lips as she fought against the agony. Even though her leg hadn't been broken, it would still be sore from being dislocated and her fractured ribs probably flared up with every breath. Briarlight stepped forward to help.

"If any cat can hear me, call out now!"

Briarlight's ears pricked as a small voice carried through the air. A moment later, she heard pawsteps pattering the rocks nearby. "We're over here!" she called.

The pawsteps drew closer and a figure emerged from the gloom. Tribe scent filled the air and the young prey hunter, Pine, slid down a pile of loose pebbles to join them. "You aren't Tribe cats but that doesn't mean I'm not happy to see you. Sheer sent me to search for injured cats."

Jayfeather nodded and gestured with his muzzle in Flora's direction. "We were about to bring her to the Pack's cave. She was injured badly when a pile of rocks hit her."

"I have really unfortunate news from the Tribe," Pine added gravely. "I don't know if anyone has told you already, but when the mountains shook, the Cave of Rushing Water collapsed. It's all gone. Even the waterfall changed course and no longer flows over where the cave used to be."

"Where any cats inside when it collapsed?" Jayfeather asked with concern.

"Yes; Talon of Swooping Eagle and Bird that Rides the Wind- two of our elders. They weren't responding to us when we were calling to them so I think they are-"

"We can't worry about that now," Jayfeather interrupted him as the smaller cat's voice began to rise in dismay. "We need to focus on getting all the injured cats we can find to safe places where we can heal them. Has Stoneteller decided where your cats are going to stay the night if they can't use their cave?"

"He didn't say anything about it. He seemed to be in total shock. Sheer has been organizing the Tribe in his absence." Pine's voice began to rise again, the panic threatening to creep into his meow again.

"Tell them they can spend the night in our cave," Flora gasped, panting hard against the pain, but her eyes were proud. "I don't know if our cave was also destroyed but if it is still standing, the Tribe is welcome to stay there."

Pine breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much! I'll go tell my cats the good news right now!"

"Take Briarlight with you," Jayfeather added, propping Flora up with his shoulder. "She is good with herbs and can help any injured cats that need immediate attention. I can take Flora back to the Pack's cave and patch up as many cats there as I can."

"But-" Briarlight began but Jayfeather pressed on.

"Briarlight, we don't have time to argue. I can't be in two places at once so I need another medicine cat to help the Tribe if Stoneteller is unresponsive. I would go but it would take me too long if I went by myself- the mountains are so different to me now. Do you think you can make the journey there and then return to the Pack's cave?"

"I- I- think so," she stammered. As usual, Jayfeather's logic was without flaw so her argument dissolved before she could come up with any words. "I've gotten a lot stronger since I left ThunderClan so I should be fine."

"Then go now with Pine," Jayfeather ordered. "I will be fine helping Flora return to her cave since she can be my eyes. Hopefully we can get every Tribe and Pack cat across the mountains before moonhigh."

"I'll try my best," Briarlight meowed, giving chase to Pine who was already scrambling back up the rocks in the direction of the Tribe. She wanted to say more but there was too much going on in her head to form a sentence. Instead, she just nodded to Jayfeather and Flora before turning and climbing up the stones until they were out of sight.

This chapter was initially planned to be around 7k words but I decided to split it up into two chapters so my readers could get an update sooner. I hope you enjoyed it :3
