Day 7: Confessions/Regrets/Promises
All good things come to an end.
That was the thought in Hiei's mind as he was about to leave the apartment.
He had been off for a while, at least a month in Human World, before Mukuro reached out to him to return. That month had been more than Hiei could have dreamed. He and the ferry girl spent much of their time together doing some of the strangest things Hiei never would have thought himself capable. They even made a return trip to a spa—they had gone once before and ran into Kurama then, but not this time.
And now the general had to leave.
"Hiei?" Botan called his name nervously before he left through the window.
He stopped to look towards her and noticed that she appeared timid and almost fearful. It had been a long time since he had seen that expression on her face, and he was not used to it. What could cause the woman fear? Did she think he wouldn't return?
Hiei stepped away from the window subconsciously, unaware that he was trying to return to her side. "What is it?" he asked gently, surprising himself with his own countenance.
It took Botan a minute. Honestly, she had such a wonderful time with him the past month, and she realized something along the way. It had only been a short time by demon and spirit standards, but the past couple of years of being around each other and getting to know each other lifted Botan in a way she couldn't fathom. During all Hiei's absences, even with the distraction of work, Botan found that there was an emptiness there. She knew that her heart was trying to tell her something.
This something needed to be said before Hiei left.
Botan took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and when she opened them she looked more determined. The woman mustered up the courage and finally said to the demon, "I like you."
Hiei simply stared at her, gaze impassive, and Botan blinked, surprised she finally got the words out. The demon then took his leave; he flitted out the window without giving her an answer.
The further he got away, the more he regretted not telling the woman that he shared her sentiments, but he mentally promised that he would return to her soon.
