Lily sat in the tent, looking towards the mirror without her eyes really focusing on anything. This dress was surprisingly comfortable. As far as wedding dresses go, it wasn't very extravagant. The bodice was a fitted V-neck and the skirt was simple and loose. There were no puffy sleeves or sparkles or anything like that. Lily liked to keep things simple. And relatively cheap. Her hair was down, only a few smaller braids pinned back, and she had done her own makeup. The only real thing that showed this was her wedding day were the earrings and necklace from her mother. The same ones she had worn on her own wedding day.

Lily didn't know why she was so emotional today. She had cried twice this morning, and truthfully didn't know if she would be crying again so she had foregone the mascara, leaving her ginger lashes in their natural state.

Maybe it was the hormones. If so, Lily was not looking forward to dealing with this for the next several months.

She had been considering… not. She had wondered if an abortion would truly be best, considering everything going on. After so much thought it made her head dizzy, she had decided against the idea. It was partially what James had said the other day. Sure, this was a horrible time, but was there ever a good time?

Lily was prepared to protect this baby with her life, and that was good enough for her.

Lily heard a sigh behind her and turned around. It was her mother, looking a little worse for the wear, but still good, considering.

"You look beautiful,"

"You're my mum, you have to say that." Lily said lightly.

"Well, that's true. But luckily i do have two beautiful daughters, so i don't have to lie."

Lily flinched internally at the mention of Petunia. She wouldn't be coming today. In fact, she sent the invitation back… unopened. She was probably too busy planning her own wedding with vernon anyways. Not that Lily had received an invitation to that.

Lily's mother seemed to realize what she had said.

"She'll come around." she assured her with a nod

"What makes you so sure?"

"Because she loves you, and there's a funny thing about love. It always overcomes."

Lily felt herself becoming emotional again. Shit.

"Lily?" her mother stepped closer, comforting "what is it?"

Lily didn't know why she told her. Maybe it was because she knew if she didn't tell someone it would slip. Maybe it was because she didn't know when she'd have another chance.

"Mum… i'm pregnant."

Her mother just stared at her for a moment. Lily was afraid she was angry or disappointed.

She slowly took a step towards Lily before throwing her arms around her and squeezing her tight. Lily felt like a little girl again as she squeezed back.

"I'm so happy for you," she pulled back. She had a smile on her face, but she looked tearful all the same.

"What is it?" Lily asked quietly, not sure if she actually wanted to hear the answer or not.

"Nothing, nothing," she waved her off "i'm happy for you."

Lily wasn't sure she believed her, but didn't want to get into it now. It was her wedding day, after all.

"Are you nervous?" Peter asked tittering nervously by his chair.

"Yeah," James looked up sarcastically "a bit." but he smiled all the same. He and Lily were finally getting married. James still wasn't entirely sure it wasn't all some kind of dream. But if it was, he didn't want to wake up.

James stood up and shook his hands out like that would clear some of his jitters.

"Ready?" Remus stuck his head in the room

James let go of a heavy sigh "not at all."

"Well i'm afraid you don't have much of a choice at this point, mate." Sirius piped in from across the room, shrugging on his suit jacket.

"Thanks for the vote of confidence." James muttered, fiddling with his tie. He wasn't used to suits, but Lily had asked if they could do a muggle wedding and James said yes. He didn't really care what he was wearing. That was hardly the point of the wedding.

"James," Sirius stood and walked over, putting a hand on James's shoulder "you know i'm not one for… feelings," he gave a dramatic shudder "but you and Evans are a pair. You've got this." he smiled and James felt himself growing emotional. One was supposed to be emotional on their wedding day, right?

Peter came into his line of sight and gave a twitchy smile.

"Ready?"

James nodded and strode out of the tent, two of his best friends by his side. Remus was off checking last minute details. Not that there were many to attend to. It was a really small wedding. Mainly just close friends, Lily's mother, and his own parents. He hadn't seen them much because everyone was so busy but he was glad they could make it today.

James took his spot at the front of the aisle, as Sirius, Peter, and Remus went to walk the three bridesmaids up. Sirius was still recovering from Marlene's death, and you could especially tell today as he walked Alice up to the front of the church in her place. But, either way, he held it together. James would never be able to tell him how much he truly appreciated that. Mainly because he knew how much Sirius hated feelings talk.

The six members of the wedding party took their own places at the front of the aisle and James halted when he saw Lily. it wasn't so much that she looked so absurdly beautiful like he always heard people say, it was just the thought that the two of them were really about to be married. And that was all he needed.

He didn't quite cry but, Merlin, he sure wanted to. He had noticed recently that Lily had put on a little weight, and it looked amazing. It highlighted her curves. He would never tell her this, of course, because he knew she could be sensitive about how she looked, but she was truly gorgeous. She had only worn a little makeup and a simple dress, but James would have thought she looked perfect if she had shown up in a trash bag with flip flops on her feet.

She stepped closer, her mother walking her down the white aisle to where James stood.

Each step took too long. Each breath took too long. He just wanted to marry her already.

Finally, she reached him and placed her hands in his. James smiled at her and they turned to face the pastor.
