"You may kiss the bride." finally
Lily leaned forward, savoring her and James's first kiss as a married couple. She didn't know why she did it, or what her logic was, but as they broke apart from their kiss Lily leaned into his ear and whispered what she had been so afraid to tell him
"I'm pregnant." she whispered
James looked awestruck for a moment, before smiling one of the widest smiles she'd ever seen and wrapping his arms around her, burying his face in her shoulder. The members of the small audience cheered. Lily laughed as she and him broke apart.
"Are you really?" she nodded, chewing on her bottom lip
James ran a hand through his hair and laughed again. It was nervous and joyful and utterly lost. But that was okay. Lily felt a little lost, too.
"Just… don't tell anyone just yet, okay?"
"Okay. yeah. Okay.." James laughed, a deep euphoric sound that made Lily realize everything was going to be alright.
The two of them didn't hold a very long reception. People were busy these days with one thing or another, and the whole thing probably only lasted an hour or two. But that was okay.
Lily was sitting sideways on James's lap, pretending to sip from a glass of champagne so no one would grow suspicious, and having James take real sips for her when no one was looking.
She couldn't stop smiling. Yes, this was a terrible time in the wizarding community. Yes, there was going to be so much heartbreak and loss ahead. But, right now? Right now was perfect.
People started dispersing, and James and Lily rose to say their goodbyes, before finally getting ready to leave themselves.
"What do you say, Mrs. Potter?" James picked Lily up in his arms and an involuntary laugh escaped here "ready to head home for our honeymoon?"
Lily smiled and gave him a long kiss "fuck yeah."
