~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(Line Break)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next week was quick and easy. Natalie had managed to discover that a temple was referenced in the Archives for something Connor had dealt with in life. When they had inquired, the Native had easily come forth with information about it being an ancient site that his people had refused to enter and kept people away from. Upon further thought, he had been able to inform all of them that he believed it was most likely of the same origin as that of the Apples. And just like that Natalie had been off like a shot. The next couple of days after Connor had hinted that Natalie was hunting down the location and pushing Riley, Becca, and Shaun to make their new hologram based Animus to become mobile.
It wasn't easy since they had only recently been able to create the room they had for the Animus, but with Riley assisting Becca along with Shaun's input they soon had a mobile version that Desmond had yet to see himself. While the techies were working through that. Natalie was manically going through her archives and using some sort of device she had to scan each and every tomb and scroll she owned. When he'd asked what she'd been doing she'd simply replied, "Just in case."
He wondered if maybe Natalie feared that they wouldn't stop the world from ending in time and was doing what she could to preserve her archives for any possible surviving members of the brotherhood. If that was the case, he had no desire to stop her. He'd instead had been tasked with focusing on training with his soulmates and assisting Shay and Jacob with acclimating to the time they found themselves in. Both men were adjusting well, just like his own soulmates, but Natalie had trusted him with the task while she was focused elsewhere and Desmond was more than happy to do this for his best friend.
His brothers were busy with the bar on Natalie's behalf. They had apparently called in several non-brotherhood citizens of the city and had them working the bar. They even had an old acquaintance of Natalie that had come in to take over the management stuff. Desmond was a bit shocked that Natalie seemed to have someone already lined up to take over the bar that wasn't an Assassin in case she had to leave and briefly wondered why she hadn't just called her parents before shrugging the thought off.
It was at the end of that week, he learned that it was a good thing Natalie was quick and efficient at getting plans set into motion and taking care of filling her business with non-brotherhood people. It was early morning and Desmond was in the training room with the rest of the time-traveling members of their group. They were going through basic training exercises in pairs before Altair planned to see how Desmond did against Shay and Jacob in a two on one fight. Desmond had just been flipped on his back by Connor when the training room doors burst open and Dylan came sliding into the room.
"Go pack your shit and meet at the main hall!" He shouted without warning before taking off back out the doors.
It was silent for a moment before Desmond realized what his brother had said and leaped to his feet.
"We gotta move!" He called heading for the door at a run. The other five men didn't argue and followed his lead, Shay, and Jacob heading for Natalie's hall as each of them stopped at their own doors.
Desmond was met at his door by all three of his soulmates, whom he assumed had never actually unpacked their bags as he had.
"What is going on, Desmond?" Connor inquired as the youngest led the way towards the main hall.
"Not sure, but if we're packing bags I'm assuming evacuation and moving locations. I don't know any other reason for Natalie sending Dylan with that order," he replied, stopping in the hall where he was met by the Techies and Duncan. Desmond spotted Dylan rushing from his and Duncan's hall swiftly, a couple of bags over his shoulder while all the techies and Duncan had boxes full of equipment.
"You put the code in right?" Dylan demanded, stopping beside Rebecca.
"I put it in. If anyone gets down here the tech rooms go boom if they don't put in the shutdown code first." Riley replied with a sharp grin.
"Where's Natalie?" Shaun inquired, looking to the blonde's hall just as Jacob came around the corner carrying a few bags over his shoulders.
"Nat says we move to the east exit and she and Shay will catch up." Jacob relayed.
Desmond and his brothers were instantly moving to lead them down the hall. However, Rebecca hesitated
"We can't just leave them. If this is serious they could get caught." She called.
"Becca, Natalie knows the Sanctuary Catacombs like the back of her hand. Including any and all secret exits that only the Azrael family are privy to. If they get cornered she'll have a way out I promise, now move!" Desmond ordered, moving back to grab her arm and drag her along. He knew Natalie wouldn't have sent them ahead if she thought she'd need more help than Shay, he could only hope that they wouldn't be forced to leave without her as well.
Shay piled the tombs and scrolls Natalie had stacked next to him into the two bags she'd had set up on one of the tables while she seemed to be frantically scanning a few last-minute items with her strange device. When he'd found her here and asked what was happening, he'd only been told that she'd gotten a call that the farm was under attack and that there was a risk of the Sanctuary being next, she'd then instructed him to pack up the books she had piled on the tables.
"A stor, we must go! While I admire your confidence in your Sanctuaries defenses, I'd rather not risk either of us getting caught in case they don't hold." He said sternly, zipping up the bags and throwing them over his shoulder.
He'd already sent Jacob with Natalie's bag of things and thankfully this was all that was left before they could follow the others.
"Fine!" Natalie snapped, grabbing the tomb with the Norse symbols on the front from the shelf and shoving it in his arms.
"Don't lose that one!" She instructed before shoving him out the door and sliding it shut.
He anxiously waited as she put in a combination code on the door and the panel lit up a blood-red before the sound of the door locking and something engaging could be heard. While curious, Shay knew it wasn't time. Without a word he quickly turned to head down the hall, hoping Natalie would take the hint and take the lead. When she didn't immediately follow after him, he stopped to look back at her.
"What are you doing?" He shouted as he watched her rushing back towards her door.
"Just one more thing! Wait there!" The blonde shouted back disappearing into her door.
The Irishman growled slightly at the hold-up. He could understand Natalie was sure of her home's safety, but he wasn't willing to risk it on the off chance that she was wrong. He was just about to go after her when she came barrelling out the door, bag over her shoulder and something bundled in her arms. She took only a moment to slam her door and type a code, the panel going the same blood red as the archives had before she sprinted towards him. It was then he realized that in her arms was Boris. Shay cursed himself as he realized that he hadn't even thought to grab the feline when they'd packed bags. Of course, Natalie wouldn't leave her pet behind and apparently had known no one would've thought to grab him either since she hadn't inquired about him.
Deciding to keep his mouth shut, Shay simply waited until Natalie had sprinted past him before swiftly following her. Natalie led them down the main hallway before suddenly turning down a seemingly random hallway that branched off into more never-ending hallways. This place really was a maze. Although, Shay did notice that the further into the Catacombs they went, the less modern and more cavern-like it became. So only a certain portion had been updated and the rest were left empty and the way they had been for who knows how long. Natalie rounded them around a corner into another hallway, a flashlight she had pulled from the bag she carried being their only light this far into the Sanctuary.
It was there that Shay caught a glimpse of light reflecting off metal before he fully took notice of the old spiral staircase leading to the surface. The blonde didn't hesitate to start rushing up to them, skipping steps as she went. The feline in her arms had been quiet and obedient the whole trip, making Shay wonder briefly if the pet was more intelligent than he'd originally thought it was. He quickly brushed it aside, however, as Natalie reached the door at the top. The only modern device this far in was the clearly new door and panel pad beside it. Natalie shoved the flashlight in between her teeth so she could slam her hand down on the pad, waiting until the blue light scanned across it and the panel turned green.
The sound of a mechanism clicking free had the blonde instantly grabbing the door handle and sliding the door open so she could step outside. Shay stepped out to find they were in a small underground cellar. He turned and watched as Natalie slid the door shut and typed in a code on the panel on this side of the door. Like the two before it, the panel turned blood red and something clicked and engaged. Shay then quickly led the way towards a sliver of light he could see in the ceiling at the far end of the cellar. Natalie's flashlight lit up a set of small stairs that they both charged up and shoved open the metal doors above them. The Irish man was surprised to step out of the cellar doors to find they were in the middle of a wooded area that appeared to be quite a ways from the town the bar was located in. Pulling his focus back to Natalie he helped her shut and chain the cellar doors.
The doors blending in with the ground with the amount of moss that had grown over them.
"Come on!" Natalie called, leading the way as she turned off the flashlight and shoved it in her back pocket. They trudged through the thick underbrush and eventually came out at a dirt road beside what Shay recognized as a pair of vans. The others were already there, most of them shoving boxes and bags in the back of the vans. Natalie didn't hesitate to do the same, coming up beside Riley and throwing the bag she had on her shoulder into the van the redhead was piling equipment boxes into.
"Who's our driver's?!" Natalie demanded, both to Riley and the one in the driver's seat of the van she was at.
"We got Devon in the other van and he managed to get Seth for this one," Riley replied swiftly as Shay slowly came up behind the girls.
"Good so we got our medics back with us. Was worried we'd end up with one of Williams men, or worse Stillman." Nat said.
Riley nodded and turned to start grabbing the bags Shay had and piling them into the van. The redhead even took the book he had and shoved it into the bag Natalie had carried, which revealed a supply of cat food and lots of metal water bottles.
"We're going in these things?" Shay asked cautiously. He may have been acclimating to this time pretty easily, but he hadn't actually been in a motor vehicle yet. And he wasn't sure if he liked the idea of getting in one.
"Yes, now get in," Natalie instructed, shuffling her cat as she moved to check the other van and speak to the driver. Shay didn't follow the order though. He really wasn't interested in getting in a device that basically drove itself with only a bit of pressure from a person's foot.
"I don't like it either. I may come from the Industrial Age, but even I preferred carriages to vehicles." Jacob muttered as he came up beside the Irishman.
"Well too bad, we ain't got time, get in!" Riley snapped, climbing in herself.
Both men continued to hesitate. Well, they did until Natalie came up beside them.
"Oh for the love of!" She snapped suddenly shoving her feline into Shay's hands, the Irishman scrambling not to drop the fluffy cat before he found himself being shoved in from behind.
A yelp from Jacob told him that the Brit had gotten the same treatment. Shay managed to sit in one of the seats in time to see Natalie pull herself into the vehicle before she was followed by Dylan and Duncan. Shaun climbed into the passenger seat and all the doors were suddenly shut. Shay could swear they sounded like prison bars sealing him in. Before he could dispute being forced into this death trap, however, Natalie collapsed beside him and leaned forward to the driver.
"We're heading to the Ship." She told the tall dark-haired man in the driver's seat.
"Does Mal and Jas know we're coming?" The driver asked, not hesitating to start the vehicle moving.
"They will when I call them if they haven't already heard about the attack on the farm." Natalie replied easily, pulling a phone from her pocket, "For now just get us heading towards The Ship."
The man, who Shay assumed was Seth, just nodded and continued watching the road as Natalie dialed a number. There was a brief conversation in a language Shay didn't understand, which he tried to focus on more than the fact he was in a metal death trap but found since he couldn't follow what was being said, he just started feeling sick instead. A chittering sound suddenly caught Shay's attention and he looked down to see Boris was looking up at him expectantly. It took the Irishman only a moment to realize the cat wanted to be pet and carefully began running his hand through the fluffy fur. He instantly began to relax ignoring as the van jolted as it went down the dirt road of the woods. He hoped this trip was short, but he had a feeling it wouldn't be.
