It was a chilly night, as Katherine walked, heading to her SUV. She was unaware that she was in danger. Until someone came out of nowhere, face not exactly human. Though others were quick to believe the animal attack stories, she always knew it to be weird that there were so many in one town. Because of this, seeing his face, she assumed that he had to be a vampire, which meant that they truly existed.

As the vampire lunged at her, where she was on her back on the ground, she saw a rod on the ground. Seeing that, she grabbed it and stabbed him in the heart with it, killing him. Then she got in the SUV and drove home, still scared of what had just happened.

When she got home and was unlocking her door, she saw Damon approach.

"Are you okay? You seem to be more than a little shaken up."

"You would be too if you almost got bitten by a vampire. I think I know one when I'm up against one," she replied.

She got her door unlocked and walked in. Then she said, "Why don't you come in."

As he walked in, Damon gave a smile. Then he asked, "Why are you so willing to believe in vampires? Everyone else believes in animal attacks."

"Because I almost got bitten tonight, but also because there are too many animal attacks in this town."

"And what would you do if someone you might care about was a vampire, but the vampire wasn't responsible for the attacks?" he wanted to know.

"I'd take it into consideration. Why?"

"Because I'm that vampire. You don't have to be afraid, though. I won't hurt you. You've had a rough night. Why don't we have dinner? I can tell you everything. You just have to keep vampires a secret. Deal?" he replied.

She was shocked, but it made sense to her. After all, he'd come out of nowhere.

"Deal."

She went to the kitchen to make dinner.

Half an hour later, they were seated at the table, having dinner.

"So, how old are you? When did you turn or whatever?" she asked, asking the easy questions first.

"I turned in 1864, here in Mystic Falls. I'm 145 years old. I was born here, but I had to leave town when the town found out about vampires, my father included. He killed me when I had vampire blood in my system, so I woke up in transition. Since the vampire that turned me told me everything, I knew what I had to do. Since I was out on revenge against my father, I think you can guess the rest of it. My father was never proud of me, no matter what I did, so I gave up trying."

"So, who turned you?" she wanted to know.

"Her name is Rebekah," he replied. "She's with her family, though."
