It arrived. The day of her birthday and she could tell it would be her best one yet. Not only was she spending it with potential new friends, but she had just found a job in a place that only a few weeks ago she believed to be fiction.
Belle had offered her a job yesterday working at the library as an assistant because she had said it would be good to have the help. In return, Kenzie had thanked her and invited her to the party. Delighted to be asked, Belle gladly accepted the invitation.
Now, Kenzie was in her room at Granny's Inn, getting ready. Looking through her clothes to find something to nice wear, but it was proving difficult since her choice was limited. Most of her clothes were back at her apartment. Eventually, she opted for a green crop top that was cut into a V-shape at the neck, slightly ripped—black skinny jeans and her black leather jacket. It wasn't her first choice of outfit, but it would do.
She laid them out on the bed and made her way to the bathroom to have a shower. Once she had finished showering and drying off she put on her clothes and did her makeup. As, for hair, she just brushed it and left it down. Heading out, she picked up her purse and locked the door.
When Kenzie entered the diner, Snow, Emma, David and Belle were already there, but there was no sign of Killian. She had first seen the four sat together near a table full of food, and when they waved and signalled to join them, she held back, looking around the toom for him. When she realised, he wasn't there her heart sank a little. She had half expected he would turn up, but she was probably feeling disappointed too soon. It was still early.
"Who are you looking for?" Ruby's voice came from behind her, causing Kenzie to jump.
She swirled around to face her and replied, "No one, "she replied and then turned back around heading towards the table where the others sat. Ruby followed behind her.
"Happy birthday," Snow and the others said when Kenzie and Ruby sat down.
Not long after, Hook walked through the door and stopped near the counter. "What's he doing here?" David questioned.
"I invited him," replied Kenzie, jumped up from her seat. She skipped towards him.
"You came, " she chimed, plopping down in the chair next to him.
"I told you I would, didn't I?" He responded. "So how'd your job hunt go?"
"Belle said that I can work in the library with her, " she acknowledged. "Come on," she added, hopping out of the seat.
"To where?" Hook asked.
"To go sit down, over there" she replied pointing to where the others sat.
"I think I'll stay here. The others don't like me, " he insisted.
"Ok well, I'll come back over in a bit to talk to you, " she told him.
"Ok, look forward to it, " he stated with a smile. Kenzie then walked back to the others. Maybe, she could talk them into letting him sit with them because she didn't want to leave him sitting by himself. It wasn't fair.
"Can he come to sit with us?" She inquired when she reached the table.
"Why hasn't he?" Wondered Emma.
"Because he said that he would rather remain over there because you guys don't like him, " Kenzie replied.
"Well, he's not wrong, " David stated.
"What he'd do?" Kenzie wondered.
"He tried to kill me twice and caused me to lose my memories, " Belle replied.
"What?" She exclaimed.
"He was trying to get his revenge on Gold, " Snow explained.
Kenzie stood up from her seat. "Where are you going?" Ruby wondered.
"I'll be back, " answered Kenzie and stormed back over to Hook.
"Hey, Rose, I didn't think you would be back over here so soon. Not that I'm complaining, " he said, with a smirk.
"You tried to kill Belle, " she asserted, crossing her arms.
The smile faded from his face and looked away from her. Then sighed, "ah, so you've found out." He looked back to her and asked, " I guess they just told you?"
"Yeah, " she replied.
"I take it your mad at me now, " he responded.
"Yeah."
"So you hate me now?" He asked.
"I don't hate you but you hurt my friend, " she replied. " Well, somebody who could be my friend."
"Before I met you. Before you were even friends with her, " he pointed out.
"Because that makes it all right, " she shouted.
"It doesn't, " he admitted "But I wanted revenge and I couldn't kill him, so I wanted to hurt him and the only way to do that was through Belle, " he explained.
"She didn't kill her so it's not right to get her involved or try to kill her, " she stammered.
"Well, I am a villain, " he pointed out.
"Yeah, well, don't hurt any of my friends again, or I'll hurt you, " she threatened, pointing her finger at him.
"Well, you can relax, I'm not planning on hurting any of your friends, " he reassured her.
"Good, " she said.
Hook stood up from his seat and finished his glass of rum. He must have gotten a glass when she was sat with the others. Then he turned to leave. "Where are you going?" Questioned Kenzie.
"I don't feel like I'm welcome here anymore so I'm going to leave, " he answered.
"I didn't say that."
"You didn't have to but I wish you a happy birthday and I'll see you later. If you still want to talk to me later that is," he said and headed out the door.
Nice going, Kenzie, she thought and dragged her feet along the floor as she made her way back to the table.
"What happened?" Mary Margaret asked when she got back to the table.
"I made him leave. He thinks I hate him now, " Kenzie told her, bowing her head down to look at her drink and played with the glass.
"Do you?" Inquire Ruby.
She snapped her head up to look at her. "No, I don't. I'm upset but I don't hate him, " replied Kenzie.
"I'm sure it will sort itself out, " reassured Snow. "In the meantime, let's have fun and celebrate your birthday," she offered.
"Ok," sighed Kenzie.
At about 10 pm the party ended. After saying goodbye to the others, Kenzie headed to Hook's ship. She couldn't leave what happened. She had to make it right between them. That was if he was still awake when she got there.
Once she got there, she climbed on board calling his name. A name she hadn't called him by yet, but she was still a little upset. "Hook?"
"Hook? Are you here?" She added, walking down the ship.
"If you shout like that, you won't just wake me up but the whole town, " he stated emerging from the captain's quarters.
"We're you asleep?" She asked.
"No, but I could have been. Anyway, why you here?" He wondered.
"Because when you left at the party, we left on the wrong foot. I feel like you think I hate you. I wanted to make things right, " she replied.
"Well, don't you?"
"No, " she replied. Quite the opposite actually, she wanted to add but refrained from doing so. "I'm just a little upset that's all."
"Well I'm glad you don't hate me, but you shouldn't be surprised about the things I've done, did. You know that I'm a villain," he reported.
"I know. I'm not surprised. I just. I don't know, but yeah, I shouldn't be surprised," she mumbled. "Please don't think I hate you. I really don't."
"Ok, I know," he said. "Is that the only reason you came?"
"Yeah, I guess," she stated just as feeling hit her, like a hundred bricks.
A devastating feeling. The same feeling she had gotten before her stepfather had died in that car crash. This time it was for her mother. Stumbling backwards, muttering, "no, no, no."
She had to stop it. She had to get to her before it was too late.
