The ambulance arrived a while later and now Killian and Kenzie were sat in the waiting room. A doctor had already been to tell them what was up. The knife that had been used had cut deep, but hopefully, if they managed to stop the bleeding she would live and she had quite a nasty bump on her head, which had knocked her out, but he didn't suspect any serious damage but they would do a scan just in case. The doctor had said it was lucky they called the ambulance when they did.

Kenzie was sat with her elbows on her lap and her head buried in her hands. Please, god let her be ok, she thought for about the hundredth time since they found her mother laid on the floor of the kitchen. "I'm worried," Kenzie piped up, lifting her head. "What if she doesn't make it?" She added lowing her arms and sat up straight.

"I'm sure she will. The doctor said there was a good chance she would, " Killian pointed out.

" But he also said there was a chance that she might not. They don't know how severe it is until they do tests, " she explained and sighed before muttering, "I don't want to lose her. Not the same way, because I failed to protect her."

"What do you mean the same way?" Killian wondered, confused.

"How I lost my step-dad, " she revealed. " It was my fault he died. I knew him driving the night it happened was a bad idea. I knew he would be in an accident. I tried to warn him, but he wouldn't listen to me. If only I had tried hard enough to persuade him not to drive or stopped him then he might still be alive, " she said.

"If he wouldn't listen then what else could you have done?"

"Anything, " she replied.

"Besides its not your fault you tried to warn him, " he said.

" Not hard enough. It is not good enough. She still got hurt. If I had never decided to go back to stupid Storybrook maybe it wouldn't have happened, " she started.

" It would have happened either way, " he said.

Kenzie scowled at him. "I just want her to be ok, " she sighed.

"I'm sure she will, " Killian said.

"How can you be?" She questioned

"Ok I'm not sure but you have to hope.

"Hope? I'm sick of hoping. I hoped, that my hunch was wrong about my step-dad dying, I hoped that my step-dad and I would go sailing, I hoped that I'd be an explorer or marine biologist, I hoped that I would get to my mom in time. Everything I hope for just comes to bite me. To stab me in the heart, " she said.

"I know that feeling, " he declared.

" Miss Robinson, " the doctor said as he approached them.

Kenzie turned her head to face him. "Yeah?" She asked.

"Your mother is awake, now if you want to go see her," he replied.

" Really?" Kenzie blurted out, her voice happy and jumped out of her seat. "So she will be fine?" She asked.

"She's going to recover just fine, " he replied and smile formed on her face.

"Thank you, doctor, " she said.

"No, problem, it is my job after all. She's in room 5 just down the hall, when you're ready," he stated and left them both in the waiting room area once again.

" Told you didn't I..." Killian said.

She twirled around throwing out her arms and put them around him when she had fully turned to face him. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, " she chirped, with a huge grin on her face. Then she stepped back and without thinking, she stood up onto her tiptoes and kissed him.

It had almost taken him by surprise but it just confirmed his assumption, that she did fancy him. Although, he knew she would still try to deny it. He closed his eyes and kissed him back.

"I was gonna say about that anything you promised, but that kiss will be more than enough of a thank you, " he stated, with a smirk, when she pulled away.

But she didn't take notice instead she carried on with what she was saying. " If it wasn't for you taking me here I would have never been able to get to her in time, " she told him, as the two just stood looking at each other. "I better go see her, " she added, turning and then headed down the corridor.

Hook frozen in place as he watched her walk away. His hand made its way to his still slightly parted lips and lightly, touched them. He could still feel her lips against his. As he stood there everything began to make sense. Everything from wanting to get to know her to want her to like him back, even why he was suddenly not so interested in his revenge as he had been. However, what he was feeling couldn't possibly be the case. Could it? Could he really be falling in love with her?

If it was possible he didn't want to say anything, not unless he was certain. He lowered his hand and set off down the corridor to find the room.

When Kenzie entered the room her mom's eyes darted towards the door. "Thank god you're alright," Kenzie mom exclaimed when she realised it was her daughter

"You're not, " stated Kenzie, walking further in.

I will be, " her mom reassured, " I'm just glad you're alright."

"Why wouldn't I be?" Kenzie wondered. Her mom had been the one who was attacked, so why was her mom surprised to see her daughter unharmed?

Her mom looks to the side to avoid her question.

'Mom, tell me, " she demanded.

Her mom sighed before turning back to her and said, "he found us." She paused for a brief moment before continuing. "Ronan he found us. I didn't tell him where you were but I thought that he would try and come after you too."

"That son of a... He did this to you, I'm gonna kill him, " Kenzie shouted, clenching her hands into fists at her sides.

"Kenzie, honey. That's no way to solve it, " asserted her mother.

"But he hurt you, " Kenzie said lowering her voice.

"That's not the point besides I'm fine. Anyway, the police are already looking for him," she told her daughter.

Just then Hook walked into the room. They both turned their head towards the door.

"Is now a bad time?" He asked, after seeing the looks on their faces.

"No, it's fine, " replied Kenzie.

"You must be Killian, " declared her mom. Hook turned to face her.

He was glad she was awake and ok, even though he didn't know her to care about her, but she was Kenzie's mother and she would have been devastated if she had been killed, which he would have hated to see. So seeing Kenzie pleased that her mom was alright made him happy too.

"I am but how..., " he began to say but was cut off by Kenzie.

He turned to her, raising his eyebrows in confusion. "I might have mentioned you, " she told him.

He grinned as he asked, "you've been telling your mother about me?"

"Yeah, it's not how you think, don't be getting ideas," she asserted.

"Well, how can I not after that kiss you just gave me?" He questioned.

Mrs Robinson's eyes widened and gasped. "You kissed him?" She asked.

"Only because I was glad you were ok and he helped me to get to you, " Kenzie explained.

"Are you sure that's the only reason?" Asked Hook, winking.

"Yes, " Kenzie insisted.

Knowing he wouldn't be able to get a confession out of her he changed the subject "So do you know who attacked you?" Hook asked her mom.

"Yeah, an ex-friend of mine, " Kenzie replied instead.

"Oh, well at least you know who to look for, " he said.

"Yeah, " agreed Kenzie.

"Who the police will look for," Mrs Robinson corrected.

'Yeah, " Kenzie repeated.

"Kenzie Rose promise me you won't go looking for him, " demanded her mom. Kenzie knew she had to listen because her mom never used her full name like that unless she was or if she was telling her off or being serious.

"I promise, " Kenzie said.

"I'll be back. I'm just going to go to the vending machines.

"Vending Machines?" Hook asks. They were another new thing to him, which he would have to familiarise himself with if he was going to spending more time in this world.

"Yes, the vending machines, " Kenzie replied glaring at him. As far as she was aware her mother didn't know about the world in which Killian came from and she wanted it to remain that way for now. Until she could think of a way to tell her about The Enchanted Forest without seeming crazy.

"Ok, sweetie, " Mrs Robinson said and Kenzie exited the room

With her gone, the room had grown quiet. Not sure what to say to break the silence, Killian said the first thing to pop into his head.

"Well I know where Kenzie gets her good looks from now, " he said.

"I appreciate you helping my daughter, " she stated.

"It was my pleasure, " Killian told her.

"But I know what you are and she's my daughter, so I have to look out for her and protect her, " she said.

"I don't understand what you mean, " he declared although he had a hunch that was more than likely wrong.

"You're a pirate aren't you?" She inquires.

"Aye, I am, " he answered.

"Thought so. Anyway, like I said I appreciate you helping, but Kenzie has been through a lot and I'd hate to see her get hurt again. She may seem tough but she deals with heartbreak badly. I don't think she could take it if it happened again, she'd lose sight of herself, so you must see why I am protective of her, " she explained.

"You don't have to worry about that, I have no intentions of hurting her, " Hook said.

"Well, I'm glad to hear that, but even so, I don't want her to get led down the wrong path. I don't want to see her get hurt, but she's a grown woman now she can make her own choices and she seems to like you. But if someone doesn't treat her how she deserves to be or toys with her heart or puts her in danger, then they'll have me to deal with, but I want to make sure it doesn't come to that, " she explains. "I don't know if I'm explaining myself properly?"

"You are, " Killian replied.

"Ok, good, " she said as the door swung open.

With her hands, full Kenzie strolled in and made her way towards the bedside table to place the food and drinks on it.

Killian watched her and thought about the conversation he just had with her mother. Mrs Robinson had every right to be wary, given the reputation of pirates and she would be even more, so if she knew about his past and all the terrible and questionable things he had done. However, what he had told her was true, he had no intention of hurting Kenzie, especially, now that he was beginning to realise the true extent of his feelings.
