Chapter 37: The Muggle Motorbike Lesson

The aftermath of the Order's Christmas party had resulted in a very sober Christmas Day; a mood that didn't seem to improve as the days past. I'd spent most of this weekend in Charlus's library and had woken up this morning, intending on spending a few more hours curled up in front of the library's fireplace. Although, leaving my bedroom, I was greeted by a rather excited Sirius.

"Hello," I smiled. Sirius kissed me.

"Morning sweetie," he said. He's in a very good mood this morning. I didn't resist as Sirius led me off down the hallway.

"Where's the fire?" I asked.

Sirius froze, "I have a motorbike lesson today." Oh. That's right. Charlus and Dorea had brought Sirius motorbike lessons for Christmas. I'd forgotten that his first lesson was this morning. I guess that explains why he's practically bouncing off the walls. I followed Sirius down to breakfast. I smirked, as I watched him help himself to far too many pancakes. James raised his eyebrows.

"You'll make yourself sick," he commented.

Sirius shook his head, "nope." I have to admit, that I sort of agree with James, although I didn't say anything. I just poured myself tea.

"I thought you'd be more nervous," James continued.

"Of what?" Sirius asked. James shrugged, helping himself to what was left of the pancakes.

We continued eating breakfast, mostly in silence, until there was a hesitant knock at the front door. We listened as Dorea answered the door to the muggle motorbike instructor. I smirked as Sirius sprung to his feet, abandoning the remains of his pancakes. He hurried off out of the kitchen, grabbing his helmet from the kitchen counter. James rolled his eyes.

"Wanna follow him on my broom?" James asked, after a moment.

I shook my head, "definitely not."

James frowned, "why not?"

"I don't like flying, remember," I replied.

"Ah come off it," James started, "I wouldn't let you fall." I didn't respond. Getting to my feet, I placed my plate in the sink before heading off to Charlus's library. James followed me. "Please Mynee," he whined, "you have to cast the invisibility charm for me." I glanced towards him.

"That isn't true," I said.

"Yes, it is." He insisted, "I can't maintain an invisibility charm for that long." I knew that I wouldn't be getting any peace from James, unless I agreed to go with him.

I sighed, "fine."

"Really?" James smiled.

"Just go get your broom, before I change my mind." I said.

"You're the best, sis," he said, before vanishing off downstairs with a smug grin on his lips. I'm already regretting this decision. I fetched myself a warmer jumper, before wandering down to the back garden. James was waiting impatiently as I stepped out of the house. He's already wearing his goggles and Quidditch gloves. I watched him climb onto his broom. "Hop on then," James encouraged as I hesitated. I mumbled the invisibility charm as I climbed onto James's broom, before grabbing hold of his waist. James then kicked off the ground.

I screamed as we rose into the air. James laughed, "shhh. We're meant to be being sneaky." I'd have hit James; had I not been terrified of letting go. Sirius was still in the driveway with the motorbike instructor. James hovered beside Potter Manor's chimney stacks. Sirius wobbled a little on the motorbike as he drove it up and down the driveway. James smirked, "he looks like a muggleborn on a broom."

"I'm a muggleborn remember," I warned him.

"I remember," he replied, "and I've never seen you on a broom… though, I'm sure you'd look like this." James moved us closer, so that we could get a better view. Sirius looked quite frustrated and continued shakily completely lengths of the driveway. "We should've brought a camera," James commented.

"Alright kiddo," the motorbike instructor said, after a little while. "Let's get you on the road." I couldn't help smiling as Sirius's face lit up. James and I followed them out to the road. I squeezed James's waist as we picked up speed. Considering how unsteady he'd been in the driveway; Sirius isn't holding back on the speed.

"He's definitely a Gryffindor," I commented.

James smirked, "you already knew that… although I think he's charmed the bike."

"You think?" I asked.

"Yes," James replied, "there's a stability charm on most brooms that maintains their stability at high speed." I'd never seen Sirius's motorbike in the future, but I'd heard it had been considerably modified. We continued following Sirius for a few miles. "I don't understand why he thinks this is fun," James commented.

"That's because you're obsessed with brooms," I said, "motorbikes are much cooler."

James frowned, "no, they are not." I laughed.

"The one Sirius has when he's older is," I commented.

James glanced towards me, "really?"

"Yes," I nodded, "but you'll have to wait and see." I definitely didn't want to get James and Sirius overexcited about flying motorbikes. Arriving back at Potter Manor, I hurried back to the library, so that Sirius wouldn't know that we'd followed him. I'd just sat down with a book when he burst into the room, still looking excited. "Hey Siri," I greeted. "How was your lesson?"

"It was incredible," he said. I smiled as I put my book down. Doesn't look like I'm going to get any reading done today.
